sounds like skip beat to me too! i'm actually loving the taiwanese drama adaptation that's airing right now. the OTT-ness works well with the manga/fantastical elements, and i think ivy chen is actually doing great. her performance makes me root for her character, and i'm with her every step of the way as she plots her revenge. siwon and donghae give serviceable performances, nothing exceptional, but siwon is able to portray the mysteriousness of his top star character pretty well. i usually steer clear of tw dramas b/c most of the ones i've tried watching were so bad, but skip beat is a winner for me. maybe it's b/c i'm in the mood for a crack drama, or maybe it's b/c the drama has bits of meta-criticism of the entertainment industry (ala Best Love), or it could be the story of a girl trying to find herself after realizing that she spent her whole life living for someone else; w/e it is, i'm hooked!

i love the manga but i think ivy chen is too cute to do kyoko justice, she ends up looking/ sounding like a demented ella at times.
she doesn't seem to be very good at rage.
i think i'd be disapointed to see TOP in this, even as Sho. well, maybe he could be the lead singer for VG...i could see him as that.
Ren is supposed to be more mature, self-contained and masculine, (not to mention taller).
please no metro girly-boys for ren.

yes to all it sounds just like skip beat, but i want to point out the reason why the Taiwan live action isn't good, I strongly feel that no body should make an live action of any manga/anime if it ISN'T COMPLETE! skip beat still haven't reach the CLIMAX to me so an live action is pointless lol just saying.

I think the producer for this, knows that too. So he playing it off as 'ooh it just a story totally not the manga everyone knows' lol

Wait.....that's the plot for SKIP BEAT!!!! From Manga, to Anime, to the Taiwanese drama of it. It's copied head to toe. I see some issues with this drama in the public coming up very soon.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but it could just be a remake of the manga "Skip Beat," of which that is the premise. Just before christmas a Taiwanese drama version of it came out, with Super Junior members Lee Donghae and Choi Siwon starring, and there were rumors of a Korean version being processed.

This does sound like 'skip beat' but it didnt give me a surprise that there was going to be a korean drama like skip beat.. I LOVE SKIP BEAT! But anyways, the thing that surprised me was that, TOP? In here?

The Taiwanese version is so strange for me to watch considering I'm so used to watching in either Japanese or Korean. And it seems super cheesy and poorly executed with the special effects and overtly exaggerated acting. I only really watch to see how Siwon and Donghae progress throughout the drama...
But I can't wait to see how Celebrity will play out!

hmm, just a thought. how about jung il woo as sho, his character in flower boy ramen has the same temperament as sho (jiw did a very gud job portraying the chaebol guy). then jang geun seok as ren, do i need to say more.. i stil have to think of kyoko.. hehehe

This is actually based off a very famous japanese manga called "Skip Beat". It's by no means a true story.

Actually, Choi-Siwon is the leading man in the taiwanese version. **crosses fingers for the rumor to be true** I've been following Skip Beat for 7 years out of the 10 that it's been running so im hoping this is true because I was VERY dissapointed by the tw version.

Anyways, I don't think he would be casted as the "leading" guy, he seems more fit to play the antagonist bad boy (whose persona is very similar to TOP's concept). If I were to say who I want to play "Sho" (the bad boy) I would pick him... as far as "Ren" (the top star who falls in love with the girl) appearance's wise, Si-Won is actually pretty damn good looking, as the character is supposed to be but he didnt do the character justice in the tw version. If there is to be a Kdrama about this, I would have to say that they'd have to get a lead actor who not only is jawdroppingly handsome, but also maybe only HALF asian... with one of the character's major quirks being his strict attitude because of his previous failure because of his "foreign" appearance, it is impossible to overlook this while casting someone.

Uff... Sorry for the long rant, but Skip-Beat was my introduction to the world of manga which then lead to anime which then led to dramas; so IF there were an actual drama, I'd want the drama to do justice to the complexities of the characters; especially the main leads, because those characters will be damn hard to cast.

I agree..sounds like skip beat for sure. I hope TOP doesn't get casted as Ren though. He'd be perfect as the beagel guy or may even work as Sho. Ren is supposed to be mature and a great actor with a dark past, plus i think he is supposed to be a foreigner or mixed, tall and macho. I would love to see someone like Daniel Henry casted ..lol

For me, the actor of Ren in the Taiwanese version is not sexy, hot or cold enough. In the manga he starts of quite cold and icy whilst in the drama the actor has it all wrong. Besides, who would put an amateur actor in the position of the acting superstar Tsuraga Ren? (I know the names are different in the taiwanese drama, but still!) I think T.O.P Would actually do better (in the early scenes at least) but I really hope he has got over his 'akward phase' as he was in a drama a few years back (can't remember the name, had 2 big characters from city hunter as well)
I had high hopes for the guy acting sho fuwa, but he has dissapointed me with his constant 'ja hey!' act.
I think the actress of Kyoko is doing a much better job at acting Kyoko than most people would (Although I really dislike the name change to Gong xi) but I would not like to see who they cast for her in a korean version as in most korean dramas, I have grown to absolutly hate the female lead/female characters as they are wayy too winey and believe everything should just come to them etc.
Moko is basically perfect :)

I really hope they make a Korean version of this with T.O.P although I most deffinatly cannot wait until the Japanese version comes!! (If at all)

I am totally convinced this is the Korean adaptation of Skip Beat. Glad to know that I wasn't the only dissatisfied with the Taiwanese adaptation. Although, I do think that Donghae was almost a good fit as Sho (if I was only reading a description of the character, I could have totally imagined him to look like Donghae) if only he knew how to act. >..<). Or I may have just had high expectations from it considering I am an avid fan of the anime and manga.

Anyway, it seems like TOP is supposed to play Ren. I also love him but Im not sure if he'll be a right fit. I think it would be interesting though and just hoping he will be able to bring Ren's complicated character to life. Now, who do you guys think should play Sho? I vote for Jan Geun Suk. Hehe. What about Kyoko? Anyways, hopefully the Korean version can replace the image of a live action Skip Beat in my head (i.e. the Taiwanese version) because I would really love to see it.

Sad news, actual plot is nothing like the rumor. It will actually be about a woman who becomes "paparozzi" as her job because of her unfullfilled dream of becoming a celebrity(or princess). As part of the plot she becomes the fake lover of a celebrity. It is supposed to air sometime this year. Though there was info from last year saying Top was going to do the project, I could not find casting to confirm this.
