Kim Nam-joo to headline new weekend drama

Queen of the small screen Kim Nam-joo (Queen of Reversals) will be returning to television with a new weekend drama for KBS, called You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly (as in a stroke of luck). It’s an awkward title to translate, but it’s basically like saying you came into my life out of nowhere like a piece of good fortune. She’ll be playing opposite Yoo Joon-sang, who’s mostly a film actor, from movies like Moss, The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World, and his latest, Hong Sang-soo’s The Day He Arrives.

She’ll be playing a successful careerwoman who never once considered that marriage would benefit her in any way, but then she meets Yoo Joon-sang’s perfect-on-paper surgeon and the two marry. The real drama begins when she finds out that married life isn’t all roses, and comes with a whole lot of baggage. I guess she thought she could buy the horse and leave the cart behind?

The tone is described as light and funny, and comes from writer Park Ji-eun who penned Kim Nam-joo’s past two drama hits, Queen of Housewives and Queen of Reversals. I’m a fan of the pairing (writer and star), so I’ll happily watch the third installment in their unofficial series. Directing is PD Kim Hyung-seok of Love and Marriage and lots of Drama Specials, including one of my faves, Our Slightly Risqué Relationship.

You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly plans to premiere in February, and will air Saturdays and Sundays on KBS.

Sounds like queen of reversals to me. Wasn't that the same plot line?

I know. The plot sounds very similar. The only difference is that the male lead in QoR is a beta male while this drama's male lead will be a perfect man.

On another note, both men (or husbands) in the first two series were jerks. Or manchilds.

I suppose since it was obvious KNJ's character deserved better, they had to make the husband more challenging for the second lead this time around.

Season 1: Yoon Sang Hyun didn't get the girl. This was like... so wrong. Note: Second lead = rich. Main = poor.

Season 2: Drama team learns from Season 1 that if the second lead has more chemistry with the heroine, for the audience sake, let him get the girl! Note: Second lead = rich. Main = poor.

"(Unofficial)Season 3": Drama team has learned that if the second lead gets the girl, the main lead is pointless. Why don't we step up the male lead and make him the opposite of the last two!
Note: Second lead = bets 99.9% will be poor. Main = assuming is wealthy.

And the heroine learns that being perfect isn't all that and goes for the poor second lead.

LOL I love your analysis... but to be honest, the only reason i love the second lead n the second installment is because its the total hottie, PARK SHI HOO!!! hehehe

Woot!

Got to know Park Shi Hoo for the first time in QoR. Rooted for him all the way, whether he was second lead or not. Couldn't tell the difference. For me, he was the main lead.

this is hilarious but you speak the truth.

True and ridiculous, but that's 90% of kdramas. The poor or middle class girl ends up the the billionaire chaebol. But in many kdramas the girl doesn't end up with the nicer guy. Hence second lead syndrome. Instead she ends up with the billionaire chaebol who was a jerk and a manchild for 14 out of 16 episodes.

So... who's the lucky second lead that's gonna replace Yoon Joon-Sang and win Kim Nam Joo in the end?

I wonder why they aren't calling this Queen of Unexpectations. They're practically doing another same ol' same ol' so it'd make more sense to continue on with the series (or seasons?) with a Queen of ____ title.

LOL. Park Shi Hoo is a first lead usurper!

they should make sure that the second lead is NOT hotter than the main lead if they want the main lead to get the girl...

Yeah, I was thinking it sounds a lot like Queen of Reversals too, with slight tweaks.

Even though QOH and QOR had the same premise, same writer, and same actress, they were different enough that I didn't feel like I was watching the same thing rehashed. I liked QOR, but QOH...not so much. I'm interested to see where they go with the premise this time.
At least this writer can write a strong female lead, and I like KNJ, so I'll be keeping an eye out for this. (Just please don't give her any ugly helmet hair this time!)

But i can't imagine another actor, KNJ raves in this skin! I loved QOR for her (and our adorable PSH). It'll be an interesting role for her, as she's already married, yet still a strong and successful woman! ;)

I will definitely check it out too. I just finished QoR. She is awesome and have to say even with the helmet hair and odd sense of fashion the production threw at her, she still looked great! People look at a few lines around the eyes and start screaming "you look old or your age" but to be able to age gracefully and naturally and be proud of it is such a rare quality these days in celebrities.

the series has ended yesterday in our local time..it's titled 'My husband got a family,' because the wife wanted an orphaned husband (weird) so that she couldn't have in-laws, but to her surprise she got 2 pairs of in-laws, haha..well my comment's too late, hehe ^^
