Han Ji-min to play princess to Yoochun’s Rooftop Prince
by javabeans
So: Moon Chae-won is out, and Han Ji-min is in for Yoochun‘s new fantasy-sageuk-contemporary fusion drama Rooftop Prince.
Interesting choice, but one I can get behind; I can see Han Ji-min easily fitting into a fusion sageuk romance (see: Capital Scandal). She can be perky and adorable, though she’s not strictly confined to bubbly roles (her current turn in Padam Padam is proof enough of that). She’s also done sageuk before (Yi San) as well as contemporary fare, so all around, I’m pleased with the casting. Moon Chae-won would’ve been great, sure, but I understand her wanting to get away from yet more sageuk princess imagery after two huge sageuk hits, back to back (The Princess’s Man, Bow: The Ultimate Weapon).
And while Han Ji-min is four years older than Yoochun, (1) I think we’re just going to have to get used to the noona-romance as a fixture in dramaland, and (2) she’s also tiny, which somehow makes the age gap less of an issue in my head. I don’t know why. It must be the mental image of him towering over her, which mitigates the age-gap power-balance. (Contrast that with Lee Da-hae in Miss Ripley, for instance, who was eye to eye with Yoochun and I thought resembled his big sister more than innocent (seeming) love interest. But they also didn’t quite spark in the chemistry department, which is an altogether different issue.)
Plot refresher: Yoochun is a Joseon-era crown prince whose beloved princess dies. He catapults himself (and a crew of vassals) to the 21st century, where he meets his beloved’s doppelganger. Craziness ensues, in a story that traverses past and present. I am SO all over this premise.
Rooftop Prince premieres on March 14, following SBS’s current Wednesday-Thursday drama Please Take Care of Us, Captain.

I'd like to see how Crown Prince from Joseon ere react to 21st Century world and its high tech inventions and people being weirded by his mannerism.
looks like all about funny. I hope Yoochun can pull it off.

I'm in! I adore him and have been a fan of her since All In. She is gorgeous and the age gap isn't really THAT big when compared to let's say Kim Soo Hyun and Han Ga In and yes love your reason #2 that she is little lol
I remember her and So Ji Sub during Cain and Abel and she was tiny compared to him!!
Anyways I'll check it out so fingers crossed!!

So happy that this drama will aired in March. The storyline is very promising and the casts are awesome. Used to wait for both Attic Prince and The King but the pairing in The King is so mismatch:(( Fortunately, I still have the Attic Prince to long for.

Han Ji Min.... I loved her in Revenge/Resurrection. She was wonderful with the leading man.. Uhm Tae Woong. I love him too. It doesn't matter if she is short. What is important is her ability to act and be credible. I haven't seen her in Cain and Abel... summer watching for me, but I saw her in Capital Scandal and she was good there too. She is absolutely beautiful, and talented. She did well in Padam Padam.... I expect her to continue to do well.
