Han Hye-jin’s new medical drama Syndrome
by javabeans
This must be the year of the medical drama. We’ve got Brain airing currently on Mondays and Tuesdays, while Uhm Tae-woong and Kim Hee-sun both have their own medical dramas lined up — Tower and Faith, respectively. We can add Han Hye-jin to the list, who’s set to star in Syndrome on cable.
The drama has some strong actors attached, many of whom have played doctors before: Song Chang-eui in Life Is Beautiful, Jo Jae-hyun in New Heart, and Han Hye-jin in Jejoongwon. Park Gun-hyung (Kingdom of the Wind) is another of the cast members. Directing are Lee Sung-joo (Hello God, Seoul 1945) and Go Jae-hyun. On the other hand, the writer’s previous (and only) drama was the flopped soccer drama Heading to the Ground. Eep!
Furthermore, the plot itself seems terribly familiar. Han Hye-jin’s character comes from a poor background but is a thoughtful neurosurgeon, in her first year of residency. Song Chang-eui will show a different side to his warm doc character in Life Is Beautiful and plays another resident. Park Gun-hyung plays a prickly, perfectionist elite neurosurgeon who shows no interest in anything aside from his patients or surgery. Of course, every medical show needs That Guy. Also, isn’t this drama Brain? How’s Syndrome going to make its mark and set itself apart from the pack?
At bottom are the drama’s first stills, featuring Han in doctor’s coat. Syndrome will be taking over the Monday-Tuesday timeslot on JTBC after Padam Padam ends and premieres on February 13.

Wow, she's really pretty. Has she ever starred in a Taiwanese drama? Because I feel like I've seen her before.

Yes, I think she was in a drama with Vic Zhou, one of them was deaf/mute... Don't remember exactly, it was years ago. :)

Actually that drama is called Silence starring Vic Zhou and Park Eun Hye. It wasn't Han Hye Jin but Park Eun Hye who was the Korean actress.

It was Park Eun Hye, of course. That's right, Achooxhelen, yups.
Please don't call the word "mute" sound like it's insult, of course. It's because it's important to respect to deaf people ~ ~ It's better to call the word "DEAF", okay. Thanks. ^_^

But they are different words...
Deaf means you cannot hear (or hear well) while mute means you are unable to talk or speak. You cannot replace one with the other.
BTW sorry about the incorrect info, I really thought that was HHJ with Vic Zhou in that drama. :/

Another neurosurgery drama? Seriously writers, there are other disciplines out there

Neurosurgeons are the elites of the hospitals by the very nature of what they do -operate on the very seat or core of what makes us humans. It happens to be one of the most difficult specialty but well paid .
They have done kdramas on plastic surgery, cardiovascular, cancer as far as I can remember. Maybe they ought to do now the orthopedic field and attached it to sports drama.
SK wants to show off how advance she is into medical field and its related technology.
I hope they don't make almost all characters in the cast candidates for brain surgery as what has happened to Brain.

With all the medical specialties to choose from, they choose this again? Was there some kind of contest for writers where neurosurgery was the chosen topic?
Love Han Hye-jin's new hairstyle though. Last drama of hers I saw was Jumong. ;)

Ugh another medical drama. At least pick a different department. Why is there a serious lack of detective dramas? Need some Sherlock genre. I would love a sageuk detective drama.

Wait, i thought it was a renaming / repackaging of Tower aka Third Hospital ? Another show ?
I'm having indigestion AND headache. And maybe memory, focusing issues too.

What they need to do is create a drama in which they show the interactions between different medical specialties. It's a war zone out here! There are tons of conflicts between Neurology and Neurosurgery alone!

They are going to lose focus if they do that ! But it will be very interesting to watch if they can handle the ongoing war . And they should add a lot of comic relief -otherwise the viewers might be too overwhelmed .
How about the psychiatric ward -there will be more action and unfolding stories there. Let's call it WARD 5

Okay, I'd so watch a drama about a psychiatric ward. Has this been done before? Because it would be great to have the blend of shorter duration story arches mixed with the longer, main character arches.

Okay, I'll admit to it: I will watch this show, even if it's an exact replica of Brain, as long as they promise to make the super crazy sexual tension that exists in Brain between Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won carry over into Syndrome. That first kiss of theirs was ridiculously hot.
(Yeah, I'm kind of easy that way. Give me some UST and solid chemistry with pay-offs, and I can forgive lackluster, unoriginal story-lines.)

LOL. Could they at least be more original in their titles? Are they only restricted to one word? I could make a whole new drama name out of all four of them : "Faith Tower Brain Syndrome" .
I agree with the above comments too. Neurosurgery is not the only department in a hospital... >.<

Medical dramas...the only one I've watched is Ob/Gyn and I liked it...mainly because of Suh Ji Suk...but I liked it!
Next, I plan to watch Brain (Shi Ha Kyun is my favorite) and then...I dunno...lol
I think I'd like to see a vetenary drama, though.

What about orthopedy? pediatrics? cardiosurgery? any other department? after Brain, shouldn't it be obvious that basing your plot on neurosurgery is not a good idea?
Plastic Surgery, in the end!

Rose,
You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that. But your comments are hurtful and offensive about Han Hye-jin, and they show that you don't have any respect for how others here might feel about this actress. There are many other discussion boards that would be more suitable for your unpleasant and inconsiderate remarks. This is not such a place.

I love han hye jin and think she can pull it off. I hope she has good chemistry with the lead too. Now I hope it can live up to Brain but with a couple like Hot Tension I do now know. 15 more hours then I can watch to see if it combusts and they make up. 4 more episodes to go and I so want them together!
