Dramabeans Podcast #9
by javabeans
Another podcast, and this time, girlfriday and I converse with a couple of our guest recappers. Kaedejun, gummimochi, and HeadsNo2 have done such fantastic jobs over the past year or more that we’ve decided to grab them and hold on tight, making them an official part of the Dramabeans family as regular contributors. We think they’re wonderful additions, and we hope you do too (don’t forget to thank ’em in the giveaway post!).
So, we’ve brought them into the latest podcast to introduce them officially to you all; this podcast features gummimochi and kaedejun, while the following one (coming soon!) will feature HeadsNo2.
Podcast #9
Running time: 54:37
In which we talk about:
- Introduce gummimochi and talk about old-school dramas with Song Seung-heon, Lee Byung-heon et al., what got us into dramas, and extensions;
- Variety shows, We Got Married and gummimochi’s Leeteuk love, with an army-duty tangent about ajusshi idols (8:03);
- Running Man and 1N2D (13:45);
- How javabeans finds indie bands (16:00);
- How girlfriday approaches the recapping process (19:45);
- Introduce kaedejun and talk about the dramas she’s covered (29:37);
- The recapping process (39:05);
- The blog and comments (41:00);
- and year end reviews and the dramas that got us started (46:13).

Hi kaedejun,
I think we have the same taste for k-drama. I really really loved Prosecutor Princess and your recaps of that drama were awesome. You even had that analysis table, which fascinated me.
Like you, I was drawn to Romance Town, which disappointed me, a bit, at the end. And like you, Great Love failed to maintain my interest to the end. I have not seen the ending but skimmed throuhg the recaps. I also loved The Musical and stayed with it till the end but the ending was awful... very chappy and bad editing. I guess if they shortened it and cut out a lot of scenes, then no editor could ever do a good job. I just hang on for Daniel Choi, who delighted me in Baby Faced Beauty.
And I love your request to recap all of Kim Seo Yeon's dramas because they always turn out good... I say Amen to that. is there one coming up... I am missing Ma Hye Ri.
Good luck to your future recaps; will eagerly await them.

Awesome podcast! Thanks! Nice to hear from the other writers about their point of view on recapping dramas.
I really liked how girlfriday described the point of reading recaps--finding others that may have had the same reaction. It was reason I had started reading recaps.

o yeah, one thing I was curious about (that may be answered elsewhere) is how did gummimochi, Kaedejun, and HeadsNo2 come up with their online name?

I can't speak for Kaedejun or HeadsNo2, but the name comes from my love of two kinds of sweets: (1) gummy worms and (2) mochi. gummi + mochi = gummimochi! Don't ask me to do more math beyond that. :)

Loved the podcast!! Yes for ahjusshi idols!!!
I feel sad about Gu Hye-sun. She really did have promise in her earlier days, but now it looks like she has lost her mojo.

Great podcast! For Kaedejun, just wanted to say that I completely agreed with your opinion of Greatest Love and was SOO happy to hear that someone else felt that it was overrated. Also agreed on Prosecutor Princess / Kim So-Yeon dramas as a whole - in fact, I think out of all the bloggers, your drama opinions best reflect my own. So I think I'll have to give What's Up a try.
Thanks to gummimochi and our two hosts as well!

YAAAY, welcome officially to the team!
I can't imagine only reading the recaps and not watching the show, unless of course, the show stinks. The only other time where I start reading the recaps without watching episodes is when I don't have time and I'm dying to know what's going on. Spoilers do not bother me at all!
Agreed about how reading the recaps is enjoyable because we get to see the drama through another perspective or we get to relive or connect on a particular awesome moment.
I do think Greatest Love was overrated but I did enjoy it to a certain extent-- unfortunately I couldn't really connect that well emotionally with the characters and didn't believe their chemistry/story if that makes sense. I loved some of the craziness though.
Looking forward to reading mini bios of the new official contributors on the About page (geez, I feel like a stalker)

I love these podcasts. It was so interesting especially when you guys started talking about why you recap and how you recap. I did a mental evaluation of my recap style and reasons and found myself lacking. I'm going to do better from now on.
@kaedejun, you are amazing! Watching each show three times before recapping. Watching a third time to screen cap is insane and I applaud you for your efforts. Have you every tried Zscreen? It really simplifies the screencapping process if you use Windows. I'm still looking for something as good for mac. I wrote a post on how to use it if you are interested. I hope I'm not interfering. I want to be helpful.

This is the second podcast I've listened to and I really enjoyed it. Thank you
gummimochi, thanks for all your recaps! i'm so glad you asked the question about where javabeans gets her music from. i wanted to know too :-)
kaedejun, I have a really similar first drama story. When you said "Stairway to Heaven" I groaned, b/c that was mine! My friend's friend gave her the dvd our senior year of college, and we used to watch it, but then we graduated, so I never saw the rest of it. That same friend's friend gave me "Tree of Heaven" on dvd as a graduation present. Oh the injustice in that drama, lol. I completely veered away to Taiwanese dramas and swore off the melos. I'm not going back either!

Fantastic podcast from the Dramabeans ladies, as usual! I love the A-dol variety show idea. I couldn't stop laughing! If you guys ever get the go-ahead to do City Hunter 2 or A-dol, I am so on board.
I'm looking forward to hearing from HeadsNo2, too. I've got this sneaky feeling that we have similar taste.
Cheers!

@kaedejun, I'm so happy you mentioned Prosecutor Princess. Prosecutor Princess was one of the topmost all time favorite of mine... it just pulled my heartstrings in all the right places and up until now it stills holds a soft spot in my heart.
My interest in some dramas wanes over time long after I watched them and sometimes I forget what exactly i liked about them before, but somehow in PP, hasn't waned yet.

Thank you Ladies for another great podcast. It was wonderful meeting Kaedejun and Gummimochi.
Kaedejun I do have to say that I found myself in tears several times reading your Heartstrings recaps. I still reference your comment "This girl talks too much." When speaking about Gyu Won. I still chuckle cause it was sooo true. It's great having a recapper that not only thinks similarly but speaks similarly as well. Thanks :) And though it's true, we don't agree on everything or even most things, I hate that others don't respect opinions.
One of the best things about media opinions is that if you don't like it, another is just a click away. Here's praying for thicker skin and quicker fingers ;)
I'm not as familiar with Gummimochi but I do think it's great having you on the site. Especially for those variety fiends. Not really my thing, awkward, nervous segments, competition, it's like watching cockroaches. LOL. I get all anxious. Not pretty. And HK3 I keep pretending I'm going to back and watch the last 70 eps I've missed... Right.
Anyway, thank you all Ladies! It was great hearing your voices. Keep the great, thorough and thoughtful recaps coming!
