Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #1
by javabeans
javabeans: Happy New Year! Another year has zoomed by — time flies when you’re watching dramas, don’tcha know — and 2012 marks an extra-special moment for us at Dramabeans, because the site turns 5 this month.
girlfriday: Happy birthday Dramabeans! You’re finally old enough to go to kindergarten!
javabeans: Or advanced into middle age, if we’re talking cat years. And as we know, the internet = cats.
girlfriday: Well that explains where all the time from the fourth dimension went to, ‘cause I certainly don’t FEEL five.
javabeans: I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for half a decade. K-dramas have sucked away my youth! How is this site still going? To think, when I started in January 2007, my primary mode of thought was, “I wonder how many people would stumble onto this place randomly.” Because then that would be a measure of how many people were interested in dramas in the English-speaking world. As it turns out, a whole damn lot.
girlfriday: I find that most of life’s truths can be found in quotes from Field of Dreams: “If you build it, they will come.”
javabeans: Also “This is my corn. You people are guests in my corn.” And “I have just created something totally illogical.”
girlfriday: See? Maybe internet also = baseball.
javabeans: In any case, we decided The Big 5 called for some celebratin’, and how better to celebrate than to give tons of stuff away? It’s a month-long Anniversary Giveaway Extravaganza!
girlfriday: We’ll be raining down presents during the entire month of January, because if you’re part of the Dramabeans community, it’s your birthday too, and birthdays call for presents!
javabeans: You might want to mark Sundays on your calendar, because every Sunday (or Monday, if you’re ahead of us in the States) we’ll be giving away something super-duper-fantastico exciting. Wait, am I overselling this?
girlfriday: Only if you’re a grinch who hates presents. Every week we’ll be asking you a question, and all you have to do is leave a comment with your answer and email address, and you’ll be entered in that week’s drawing.
javabeans: We’ll select winners by random draw. Check back a week later, and see if you’ve won! If you haven’t, fear not, because we’ll be announcing the next round as well. More prizes!
girlfriday: And they get better each week!

I'm on the BOYS OVER FLOWERS wagon. I was watching tv shows on Hulu and it recommended it. On the Boys Over Flowers page it recommended You're Beautiful. I don't think I've shed so many tears in years. I watched it at nighttime which may have contributed, but bawling bawling bawling. (Ok slight exaggeration) Being played like a fiddle was supper addictive.
While I'm a little more numb to the melodrama now. I am firmly hooked on shows that are like visual books. After experiencing a comprehensive plot with strong character development many American tv shows seem paid.
Other First: Iljimae first historical drama. Cinderella's Stepsister first Dramabeans drama.
Swallow the Sun I think was first modern action drama. While modern action and revenge dramas was a sub-category I came to later in my watching experience it is now my current favorite.

My first drama that made me loooove/obsessed with korean dramas was My Girl...the kookiness of Lee Da Hae as Yoo rin and the cool suave Sol Gong Chan by Lee Dong Wook really made me fall in love ;) the humor and romance was balanced really well and to this day its still my favorite K-drama :)

All this craziness started with MY GIRL. Haha. It's not until 2 or 3 years ago that I realized it was a Hong Sisters' drama and no wonder i got so hooked. I fell in love with the lead characters as much as i fell in love with the drama. Back then i really thought that LEE DONG WOOK is the hottest person on Earth (okay that's exaggerating a bit, 'hottest person in K-dramaland' would do), and he was my first love too (k-drama-actors-wise). Well he's STILL HOT, it's just that my world's bigger right now, what with all those eye-candies and hot naked showering men going on in that effin' promised land. I'll be there soon too i promise. Hee hee.

The drama that brought me over to the dark side was incidentally my first drama as well - My Name is Kim Sam Soon. It was amazing, hilarious, and as all good dramas should be, addicting!

I've been watching dramas for all my life. The first Kdrama I fell in love with was Goong. I still remember reading subs at 4 am with reddened, blurry eyes.

Boys Over Flowers was my first drama. Not exactly the greatest drama, but that didn't stop me from burning through the episodes that were out and then waiting anxiously for new ones. Watched other better dramas after that, but it still holds a special place in my drama-loving heart.

My first drama was 'Personal taste'. Though I really enjoyed it a lot, what hooked me permanantly was 'My girlfriend is a gumiho'. Both of them are great drama. Now I like 'City Hunter' more though...

I accidentally downloaded an episode of Full House back in 2006, never knew where to find more (everything I searched came up with the American show, bah!). Went through a couple of Japanese dramas before I finally found my back back to Kdramaland, and the rest is history. FH wasn't the best drama ever, but it paved the way for my love of cohabiting romcoms.

I don't know if it's too late to enter...
My first love was Coffee Prince and it definitely brought me to the dark side. I was caught by the great OST and of course Gong Yoo!! Although it's from 2007, I found it exactly 1 year ago and it's still one of my favorite kdramas.
Happy 5th year!!! :D

I willfully welcomed the eyestrain and tension headaches wrought by a marathon streaming of My Name is Kim Sam Soon online -- then compounded those corporeal minor hurts by further wielding the power of the Internet to purchase the DVDs and watch the complete story twice again in immediate succession. The everyman (everyone, rather) narrative, the not-what-I-was-familiar-with music, the colorful pastries, the credible acting, the not-enough-yet-somehow-just-right length (my introduction to single arced, self-contained K-drama series, after all), mention of Proust, my aching desire to learn and know the Korean part of my heritage, not least of which is language... What a welcome relief dramas and dramabeans have been these past four years!

The Snow Queen (2006), starring Hyun Bin and Sung Yu Ri. I feel instantly for the story line and its characters. This was the start to my love affair with korean dramas!

I have to say YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL. It had a definate charm that other dramas seem to lack. It was fun, witty, and well written with songs that were so touching it even pulled me in on the kpop scene (my love for Hongki was born). The characters were portrayed so well that you couldn't help but fall in love with them and cry as they fell in love and were broken hearted over Go Mi Nam.

My addiction started before (with YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL) but I have to say that CITY HUNTER brought the fire back into it. It was new and interesting and my first action drama, in fact. I was crazy about it. I was hooked from the first piece of rice falling out of Lee Min Ho's mouth (seriously? who is that hot just eating?). Even after it ended I found I had trouble getting it off my mind and letting it go. Withdrawl was horrible.

But yeah, it was such a loveable drama, it's wonderful! <3 I was hesitant to start watching dramas since i was into anime, but LOL that got thrown out the window and soon enough, i'm on the dark side alright. the oh so wonderful darkside! :D
and then after that i watched coffee prince and boys over flowers, which ultimately sealed the deal . xD

Ah, my first drama ever was full house; cliche, I know. Though I didn't watch it first intentionally. I was in China a few years ago and was just flipping through channels when I saw a chinese-dubbed version of Full House, and started watching because it had hot guys, LOL. I also saw Si Won on a chinese variety show but didn't connect him to Super Junior for another couple years. The summer after that, in China again, I unintentionally found My Name is Kim Sam Soon airing. I really enjoyed the two, but I didn't start watching Korean dramas for another... 2 years after watching MNKSS? So I'd have to say my intro to korean drama was a good one, though I didn't really, REALLY get into it until my friends started watching kdramas. And now? I'm a rom com addict, haha. Maybe those were all signs of fate. Thanks for being awesome, dramabeans, and happy belated new year! (:

Congratulations on your milestone anniversary!
My first drama was Stairways to Heaven! My sister and I finished the drama in one week, and 4 kleenex boxes later. :-) We've seen much better dramas since, but STH will always have a dear place in our hearts.

City Hall!
I've been watching kdramas for years but city hall was the one drama that brought me over to the dark side. I guess Cha seung won can do that to a girl.
My first post...although I've been lurking around ever since I discovered samsooki's recaps of city hall here.
Happy aniversary, dramabeans!

Boys Over Flowers was my first drama.
I was introduced to it by my best friend who was Korean, and ever since, I've been watching drama's left, right and center..hahaha ;)
Now after watching many drama's I'm also getting hang of the Korean language too! Just about a month ago, I was walking from my classes from university, and there were two Korean girls talking behind me. I could actually understand their entire conversation!! :D Lol..they probably thought they were the only ones who knew what they were saying..hehehehe

My first korean drama was Winter Sonata....and that time make me fall in love with korean drama and absolutely korea. Few months after saw the drama i think i live between reality and fantasy...fantasy of pretty guy " jun sang " (wished that my boyfriend at that time change his hair style like jun sang ^^)...and adore of how cute, naturally beauty of " yoo jin" (after that everyday i got my make up natural ^^) i felt like i live in nami island (its really silly when u saw that so hot & pollution a lot in my city that i live at that time)...but that's it...i love the drama so much, and after that...i started to love korean drama.
