SNL Korea picks Gong Hyung-jin as its second host
by javabeans
Cable channel tvN has announced the next host of its newly unveiled Saturday Night Live Korea, which kicked off its run this past weekend with actor Kim Joo-hyuk as the inaugural host. Number 2 honors go to Gong Hyung-jin, who I think is a perfect choice: The guy is hilarious, fast on his feet, and has sharp comic timing.
I’m also betting he was already signed on to do the show a while in advance, because he had a bit part in the first episode. If you’ll recall, Kim Joo-hyuk started off his monologue by expressing his pride in being picked as the first host — only to have the screen shrink, his voice drowned out, and a string of other celebs turning down the gig, which included Gong Hyung-jin (refer to pic below).
Because Gong is such a strong supporting comic performer, you probably recognize him from something in his long resumé, which actually includes a few projects with Host No. 1 (he and Kim Joo-hyuk were both in Bang-ja Chronicles and the more recent romantic comedy Couples). He’s also part of the Jang Jin crew, having acted in Good Morning, President as well. (Other projects: The Duo, Chuno, Runaway Plan B, Dal Ja’s Spring.)
Gong said, “Although I’m incredibly worried about acting in a live broadcast, I’m also really excited at the idea. I’m working on an acting performance that’ll startle people who’ve never seen this side of me. Please look forward to it.”
His episode airs this Saturday, December 10.

I loved Gong Hyung-jin in Dal Ja's Spring. I hope he gets some awesome skits with Jang Young-nam - who was awesome on Hello Ghost. Can we get Ch Taehyun to participate on SNLK one of these days? That would be a awesome.

Ah, now I remember what else I saw Gong Hyung-jin in. He was in the kdrama I Love You - which was boring on so many levels, but had some lovable moments and characters that I admit kept me hooked. I loved his relationship with the little girl in that. It was so sad when he had to give her up because his wife made him.

ahh! I saw that drama because Hwanhee was in it. Even as a fan, I can agree that the drama was pretty horrible -__-

I totally read this as Gong HYO-jin at first and was going to be really excited. But I like Gong Hyung-jin as well, so I'm still excited, just not quite as excited as if it was Gong Hyo-jin.

Awesome choice. I kind of thought that Gong Hyung-jin might host in the near future just because he'd be great at it, and he seems like an actor who would be willing and excited to do something like this. Can't wait to see Gong in action!

Echoing everyone's thoughts, awesome choice!
SNL is a pretty hard hitting sketch show; Gong Hyung-Jin has always been good at transforming himself to fit the role.
Not only was he great in many of his projects, he also seems like genuinely a likable guy. I remember seeing him sing on IS2... he has quite the singing voice too :D
