MBC considers ending Me Too, Flower’s run early
by javabeans
Rumors are swirling that MBC’s Me Too, Flower is headed for an early end, cutting down its episodes from an intended 16 to 15 instead.
The reason cited is the end-of-the-year MBC Broadcast Entertainers Awards, which is set for December 29. That’s the Thursday initially set for Me Too, Flower’s finale, so the initial plan had been to allow a double-header on Wednesday the 28th, when MBC would air 15 and 16 back-to-back. However, MBC has now stated that they won’t be opting for that plan.
If the drama loses an episode, the move is likely prompted by its low ratings. Up against the well-received and popular Tree With Deep Roots (20%+ ratings) as well as Man of Honor (low- to mid-teens), Me Too, Flower has been averaging ratings in the 5% to 6% range.
Those ratings wouldn’t have been enough to cut short the drama with no other reason, but its seems they’re low enough to make the broadcaster reluctant to work around an awkward schedule, preferring to just cut down the drama instead. Especially after they’d had to give Me Too, Flower a postponed premiere when its production fell behind schedule and lost its hero at the last minute.
It’s too bad for the drama, which I’ve been enjoying for its quirky characters and solid chemistry. On the other hand, I can see how MBC wouldn’t feel compelled to extend it by an episode to work around their awards season, and would rather get past it with a minimum of fuss on its part. After all, the drama to follow — fusion sageuk romance The Moon Embracing the Sun with Kim Soo-hyun and Jung Il-woo — offers MBC a chance to jump back into the game, starting off the new year with a fresh slate.
At least it’s only one episode, and if the cutback is indeed confirmed, the writer and producers will have a few weeks to prepare the finale accordingly. You know, to see the glass half full and lined with silver.
