Army sitcom Bolder By the Day off to a shaky start
by javabeans
Now that it’s December, MBN has opened its doors and premiered a bunch of its new shows (along with fellow new cable outlets jTBC and Channel A). One of the weekend sitcoms, however — army sitcom Bolder By the Day starring Park Han-byul — is looking a little uneasy with a PD switch right off the bat, not one week out from its December 3 premiere.
This comes with only two episodes shown (and, apparently, with only a couple more episodes in the can), as director Jo Jin-kyu quit the program almost as soon as it launched. Furthermore, some writer switch rumors have surfaced as well. And while a PD switch in and of itself doesn’t always mean there’s failure ahead, it does tend to make the production seem mighty shaky. It’s not the most confidence-building way to start off a new venture, let’s just say.
According to a source with the channel, the PD’s departure came after delayed shoots. Eep. I hope that doesn’t mean the show’s already behind schedule, although something tells me that’s probably a factor. At least it’s a 30-minute sitcom and not a drama? As a result, Jungle Fish 1 director Choi Sung-beom has been brought in as the new PD.
Production troubles aside, I still think there’s potential in the premise — military service is such a big issue, one of those hot-button topics that’s never more than one offhand comment away from a full-blown debate, but it’s not really depicted as the focus of stories other than in period war dramas. Or maybe a young man is off to do his two years as a plot point.
The sitcom centers around an army family, with a commander for a Dad (Lee Jae-yong), a captain for a Mom (Park Hae-mi), and an ensign for a firstborn daughter (Park Han-byul). And then there’s the oddball of the family, the younger daughter (Yoon Joo-hee) who’s unemployed and aspires to break into showbiz. I love that this makes her the odd one out in this family. Over the course of the series, Park Han-byul will develop a loveline with Kang Ji-sub.
Bolder By the Day is a 50-episode sitcom that airs on Saturdays and Sundays on MBN.

Not that I can read the future... but from past events, the more you demand for a recap, the less likely it's going to happen. Just sayin'.

Park Han Buyl is way too pretty and feminine to be a soldier.
I didn't like her before but I do now. Not for any acting project but her real life persona. She is famous for being s7even's girlfriend. heehhe

Eh, she has that nondescript "pretty" - nothing particularly striking about her.

I still don't like her real life persona but I learned to ignore it since she will be the future Mrs. Se7en and he is my long time favorite idol... I just think her personality is a bit fake...

I actually really want to see this - the premise is definitely interesting, especially with the army having considerably less women than men serving. will have to check am-addiction and Dramafever for subs. any leads for links appreciated.
also, speaking of MBN, have you seen the new stills and trailer from Padam Padam? I'm now much more interested in the show - and no, it's not because of the Jung Woo-sung/Kim Bum joint shower scene, though that is an added bonus ;) It's really because the characters seem much more interesting than I originally thought.

O.o You had me at "shower"
Actually I think Padam may be one of those shows with crap PR that turns out to be pretty good. As it stands now, I doubt I'll catch the original airing.

I feel you - I have only a few weeks of vacation to catch up on k-dramas, and I have a backlog that I need to get through, so I doubt I'll get to this one anytime soon. But, here are the photos and trailer to tide you over until you get to watching it :)

@myra whoawhoawhoa be patient. this is their blog and they should write what they really want. tbh I have been checking this site more than thrice everyday to check of they have updated or wrote a recap on what's up. and people who know me on twitter would have seen me writing "I hope db will write a recap on what's up soon!".
let's just say we wait patiently huh. they have a tough job of updating on every single drama news.
