Zombie drama special “I’m Aliiiiiiiiive”
by girlfriday
javabeans: SO. Zombie drama.
girlfriday: Woot! And better yet, it’s called I’m ALLLLLIIIIIIIIIVE!
javabeans: Damn, now I really wish Braiiiiiin turned out to be a zombie drama too. They could be friends. Or, you know, try to eat each other.
girlfriday: I can’t believe it’s the first zombie drama in Korea.
javabeans: Well, I think Korea’s only started taking on genre stuff recently. And with all the vamps around these days, it only follows that zombies are next, yeah?
girlfriday: Next it’ll be alien zombie wannabe idols.
javabeans: Who wins: Zombies versus vampires? Go!
girlfriday: Like Battle of the Bands?
javabeans: Maybe more like Battle Royale.
girlfriday: But with glitter, right?
javabeans: And singing!
girlfriday: Oooh, and a dance-off!
javabeans: Well clearly vamps win that, since zombies are dealing with the whole rigor mortis effect.
girlfriday: But it’ll end up devolving into an eat-off anyway. So I think zombies win, because vamps can’t suck their blood, but zombies can still eat their brains. It’s a foodchain thing.
javabeans: But it’s on network television (on MBC).
girlfriday: So, yes to brain-eating, but not very graphic brain-eating?
javabeans: They can blur it out badly in post. Maybe they can be all ironic and add the High Kick Smiley Faces of Censorship.
girlfriday: You gotta wonder, what’s the point of watching a zombie drama if you blur out the brains?
javabeans: Plus, it’s only 2 episodes, so it’s almost literally blink-and-you-miss-it.
girlfriday: It stars the scaredy cop from Girl K, Baek Do-bin. He was hilarious in that.
javabeans: It’ll be weird seeing him play a leader in this one, since he’s the level-headed guy who helps the living fight back against the zombies. Plot: He’s brought to a hospital for an injury, where people who are subject to a “suspicious experiment” turn into the undead.
girlfriday: So, just like Girl K, but without the spies?
javabeans: Also without the blood, guts, or boobies.
girlfriday: Lame. But zombies! They make up for a lot.

Hm, I'll have to see how this is done.
Recently, I've been getting into the whole zombie genre. I don't know why. . .must be the pre-2012 jitters.

abc's Once upon a time is completely sensational right now and so far my favourite network drama of all time.
I can't see korea doing it as lavish as America did but a lovely korean fable would make a great drama. How about that heavenly maiden and woodcutter one?
Though I could totally see a korean beauty and the beast on cable ;)

SciFi!
There is no Korean SciFi or Psyphi, or however they pspell it now a days...
I want to see a Korean time traveler or Moonwalker, or Ursala LeGuin being...
Or how about one of Diana Wynne Jones books?
I digress...

Totally agree with the sci-fi. I hope they get into it. *o* There is pretty much zero sci-fi in Korea and it would be KILLER if they went hardcore with it. *o*

@ Jomo
I thought so. Hayao Miyazaka did an animated feature based on her book. One of my favorites!
I thought it would be neat if S Korea would do a version of "The Ring".

It'd be interesting if they went somewhere with Korea's fascination with tarot/mediums, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I cant recall a drama in which they played a main role

What's the vibe of this show - is it supposed to be The Walking Dead-apocalyptic-human-nature-drama or Shaun of the Dead-flesh-eating-comedy? Of course, I'll be watching either way. Anyone know if there are any trailers out yet?

Oh, awesome. I just happened to read an awesome short story that, for the first time in my life, piqued my interest in the life(?) of zombies.

Omo-- a zombie show in which they used the High Kick Smiley Faces of Censorship to obscure the brain-eating would be awesome! This show, I'm not so sure about, but I do love the title.
I'm happy to see a 2-ep. drama appearing on network TV-- wouldn't it be great if the mini(or micro)drama worked as a format that could help reduce the need to rely so heavily on the live-shoot system?
Thanks for cracking me up again- I love conversation posts!

I think deadliest warrior put that to the test and it was vampires that beat the zombies at a 1:53 ratio.

Why do these types of drama always end up as 2 part specials....oh man the edgy shows could be so much more profound if it's a fully blown series.
korean walking dead....sounds good....but I'd rather this was on cable.
MBC needs better original programming these days and I think this will bring the status back along with several new shows starting up.

So since this is a korean production, we can expect:
1. zombie showering
2. zombie crying
3. zombie angstying
4. zombie dying - hey, wait, he's already dead!

Don't have to be brain dead to enjoy Korean zombies! Is it a horror or a comedy? Who cares as long as they are HOT looking!
Sounds bizarre, but interesting....

I don't think Korea can pull it off when it comes to zombies...i'm a super fan of zombies when it comes to movies and dramas...i've watched all from a low budgeted movie to top class movie with zombies...currently i'm watching AMC's "The Walking Dead" and it's one of the best there is...and i don't think Korean tv will have a full show of something like zombie-eating-human...
why not make it comedy like Zombieland?
but all in all i hope it will be good :)
