Wild Romance adds Hwang Sun-hee
by javabeans
She’s played a baddie (Sign) and a sympathetic vet (City Hunter), and now Hwang Sun-hee joins Lee Dong-wook and Lee Shi-young in the romantic comedy minseries Wild Romance.
Given that this project rates high on my anticipation meter (writer Park Yeon-seon has the thoughtful Alone In Love and smart, sharp Mixed-up Investigative Agency to her name), I’m paying close attention to what’s going on with it, and so far I’m liking the way this cast is shaping up. The previously cast headliners both have an ability to span the comedy-drama divide, and although she hasn’t had much screentime yet, Hwang Sun-hee has an inherent intensity to her presence. I think she may develop into an interesting actress, given the right stuff to work with.
Wild Romance features Lee Dong-wook as an uptight pro baseball player, with Oh Man-seok playing one of his fellow teammates. Hwang is cast as the latter’s wife, who displays a graceful appeal and is the perfect domestic queen. She’s got a bright, lovable personality to boot, which seems like an easy enough role to play, except that Hwang hasn’t really done that yet. Scary, bitchy, and aloof, yep she’s done it. Warm and fuzzy, new territory.
Also cast is musical and screen actor Kang Dong-ho, whose roles have included the musical version of Goong, weekend drama All That Glitters (or Twinkle Twinkle), and the romantic comedy Dangerous Meeting. The latter also starred Wild Romance lead Lee Shi-young, so he’ll be reteaming with her. Kang Dong-ho plays a marketing team leader for the pro baseball team with a cold personality that’ll clash with Lee Dong-wook’s hot-blooded one.
Wild Romance is planning to air on Wednesdays and Thursdays in January, following Man of Honor.

Does anyone else think she looks like an Asian Liv Tyler? I loved her in City Hunter :)

Oooh, now that you mention it, she kinda does. I can so see her in mythical fantasy-elf garb. Loved her and her character in City Hunter, and now my interest in the drama notched up even higher.

This is one strong cast - looking forward to seeing this one.
Loved her in City Hunter, but thought that she was seriously underused in that story. It'll be interesting to see her bringing the warm and fuzzy.

Ooh...I liked her in City Hunter. She does have great screen presence. Glad she's not going to be playing the typical second lead. It's good to see her go for diversity in her roles.

Ooh! I love her (and not just because I think that she's so pretty). Hope she gets a lead role next time (and Wang Ji-hye too!)

Like her and looooove Kang Dong-Ho! He was so cute in Twinkle Twinkle that it melt my heart (way more than the male lead itself).

He played such a sympathetic character- loyal, honest, lovable, steadfast... so good with "his" baby- I liked him much better than the male lead. Glad to see he's appearing in something else so soon. Yay!

I am yet to see whether her acting is that fine, or "just-happened" (after Sign and City Hunter). "Same" smiling expression, but in Sign, it was so dark and calculating and in CH, it was so warm and pure. I think it's the former.

Even Kim NaNa was seriously underused in City Hunter - but story wise it worked out very well for the drama as a whole. I don't think Hwang Sun Hee regrets it.
(Park Min Yeong told in an interview after City Hunter that she was a lil unnerved by the romance story - it was too linear with very little to tell about the couple and displayed just a few feelings that a couple can have. Their love story was meant to be extraordinary, while in reality only the city hunter aka LMH had all the extraordinary things in his pocket)
Back to Hwang Sung Hee... I loved her more in Sign, her char was a bit Bidamish - but only the crazy ferocious smart killer part

That's a fine pic of Hwang Sun-hee; think she may be prettier than her "City Hunter" co-star, Park Min-young, but definitely more striking-looking.
