Vampire Prosecutor rocks the ratings again
by javabeans
Wow. Impressive. Yesterday’s Vampire Prosecutor episode pulled in a seriously solid 2.59% viewership rating overall. It peaked at a (minute-by-minute) high of 3.31%, making it a series best. Just yesterday I’d said it might take a little bit longer for cable dramas to make it that high, but I’m happy to stand corrected on that front.
Here’s another metric to consider: Of all 20- to 30-something female viewers watching television in that timeslot, Vampire Prosecutor had a 20% share, meaning that 1 in 5 women in that demographic tuned in at the time were catching a glimpse of our chic, wry prosecutor vamp tasting the blood of victims and solving crimes. And while the blood-fueled psychometry is one of the show’s conceits, I enjoy that much of the time, Mr. Prosecutor is solving the crimes with his brains as much as he is with the extra little help he gets from Type O. And A, and B.
Although I think some episodes have been better than others, the show has definitely been picking up in the last couple of weeks. Yesterday’s Episode 6 in particular was deserving of the attention, mixing the dark premise with a touch of black humor and irreverence. With its gorgeous visuals and cinematic directing style, the drama’s got style out the wazoo. Let’s hope the drama can keep up the writing — and ratings, of course.

I think you hit the nail on the head abt the lack of romanticism. Romanticism is what kdramas do best, so I don't really blame them for soaking in it, but VP is refreshing by not giving off that same feeling.

And that, my friends, is why we should never mock a series before watching it.
Boy, 2011 sure had (has?) its share of "turning table" shows. A great year for cable and for K-dramas (and it's not even over yet).

It would have been a ratings hit if it was on mainstream as well~~~~
Cable dramas are indeed looking better than mainstream ones these days!

Definitely concur with cable dramas looking the better of the two. This series and Flower Boy Ramen Shop have me addicted in no way that any major network drama I've seen this year has (save for Best Love).

1 out of 5 women in the 20-30 year age range?? That's super impressive. Especially since not every one has cable. When factoring in the variable of cable subscriptions, the ratio of women in the 20-30 year age that tuned in to this show during that time period must be like 4/5~~~ Cool. It would be great if cable dramas could break 5%. Cable dramas generally aren't as good as dramas that air on public air waves. But the solid ones do deserve at least a third of the ratings that public tv dramas get. I have so much on my plate right now, what with A Tree with Deep Roots, Ojakkyo Brothers, and A Thousand Kisses. But I still have the capacity to watch more dramas, so I'm extremely happy that cable TV's offering a drama I totally love, Flower Boy Ramen Shop. So cable TV, bring it on!!! I love having more good dramas to watch~~
