Pilot-photographer Ji Jin-hee for Take Care of Us, Captain

It’s Ji Jin-hee‘s turn for stills for SBS’s upcoming Take Care of Us, Captain, in which he plays said captain. More specifically, he’s the talented pilot of a passenger airline who gets saddled with a new co-pilot (also love interest), played by Gu Hye-sun (The Musical).

Rounding out that love triangle is Lee Chun-hee (Gloria), who works in the air traffic control tower. That love triangle gets rounded out again (oy, mixed metaphors — can a triangle get rounded? what if there are two of ’em?) — should I call it Star of David-ed? — with Yoo Sun (Sons of Sol Pharmacy) playing a member of the flight crew who challenges Gu for the pilot man’s affections. And ostensibly loses, since she ain’t got top billing.

If we’re judging by the graduation stills below, Gu’s character is fresh outta flight school (the “redbaron airline academy of sanfrancisco,” if we’re to go by her diploma and not, say, an understanding of the English language). That gives her part of the love triangle a generational gap, with Yoo Sun closer to her mother’s generation. Or at least big unni.

(When Yoo Sun was a rookie, she was partly responsible for a woman’s in-flight death and her infant contracting blood poisoning. She then helps the daughter, Gu Hye-sun, become a pilot. Previous descriptions made it seem Gu was that infant, but later news revealed that Gu has a younger sister, so Yoo Sun is not in fact playing a dozen years older than her age.)

Ji Jin-hee last showed a lighter side playing the king in sageuk drama Dong Yi, but his character here will be more in the mold of the uptight, cold professional; he’s got a poker face that belies a warmer underbelly, but it’ll take a while for someone to see his softer side. I hope we see it sooner than later, since he can be pretty adorable playing the eccentric (The Man Who Can’t Marry), which I much prefer to the same ol’ cold dude that we see in every drama ever.

The drama began filming with location shoots in Australia, which is where the photo-shoot stills come from. Ji briefly plays the role of photographer as he snaps wedding photos for a couple at the Harbor Bridge. (They’re employees at the flight academy, so ostensibly his character is doing this as a favor for colleagues.)

The drama began its shoots on October 31 and plans for a January 4 premiere.

Note: I’d post more puppies, but they died in the line of fire in the last fanwar and I’m loath to send more cuteness to their ignominious demises. Keep the commentary civil, please. A return of the crazy basically means I’ll stop covering this show, ’cause I like my drama to remain IN my dramas.

c'mon he is the hotness that started kdrama obsessions overseas - DaeJangGum or Dong Yi it doesn't matter he is the one that opened the hallyu gate in so many countries. Somehow I don't get it why in Korea only Bae Yong-joon exist as first wave while Dae Jang Geum was mde in 2003 just a year after Winter Sonata

I didn't develop for him any fangirl crush like I did with Kim Nam Gil or No Min Woo but I respect his work and give credits for it

THIS brings back good memories to me ! It's a tradition to baptize freshly Licensed pilots ( may it be in commercial aviation, military or civil one ).For my part i've been thrown in a bathtube installed in the fields and filled with stagnant water from a near pond. LOL !!!! I still remember the smell. But black and white pics of that event are safely kept to remember that it was one of the best days of my life.

Given the age of the characters they are playing, it is more than likely there will be a hot kissing scene.I am hoping for more than 1. There sure were a lot of kissing scenes in BOF. JJH might be able to teach her a thing or two as he is married and the sunbae. LOL

Totally unrelated to this post.... the header up for me right now is the shin mina one that's tinted pink. i just realized that it says 'deconstructing kdrama and kpoop culture'. lol was that purposeful? anyway, calling it kpoop is funny is funny if it was done on purpose and even funnier if it wasn't.

To bring the comment back into relevancy, I would like to watch this show. JJH looks hot. I've never seen him in anything...but I love a man in uniform. :)

I must have been in some sort of outer space lalaland cause I didn't really like DJG when it came out (I'm one of the few), but woah, JJH did really surprise me with his light & fun side of being king in Dong Yi. So I'll definitely be checking this out. GHS - I'm hoping it'll be good :) I'm not a big fan but I do like pilots and am curious about this one.

I like his funny side especially in Dong Yi and Jewel but I might be willing to give his serious character a shot.

I've never been to SF, but I would think they would have more than one Asian/minority in their graduating class.

I know, I'm being too picky. Just made me laugh.

I like three out of four leads, so I might give it a try. Chunderella FTW! Too bad he won't get the girl. Hopefully the story will be sane and funny. Or just insanely funny. Hey, it would be a good use of Lee Chun-hee!

The recaps are up to episode 4 because, contrary to semi-popular belief, they do not spring from my head (or anyone else's, for that matter) fully-formed, like a pissed-off goddess saying, "Dad, lemme outta here!" Although that might explain the headache.

JB - Nice greek mythology reference! Unless you wrote that based on watching Clash of the Titans in 3D...in which case I am ashamed of you. Did you just say that since I considrered seeing the latest Final Destination movie in 3D, I can't comment. It was for a cute boy, don't judge me! Hey how did this become about me?! This is really shallow but I'm desperate to know: Does JJH have shower scenes in his dramas? He was a noble lord in Jewel and a king in Dong Yi, and was always....um....clothed. He never took any baths in Jewel, and I stopped watching Dong Yi halfway, so I'll never know. I'm optimistic he'll shower in Captain though. Maybe they'll fit in a cockpit shower.

It's not much fun flying a plane if you're all sticky and hot and stinky. A quick cockpit shower would keep our gallant pilot fresh and alert throughout the long haul. And he can keep his dignity cos the passengers won't be able to see him. How difficult is it to install a cockpit shower anyway - just plonk in a shower and one of those pretty floral shower curtains, and we're good to go! He can have his cockpit shower next to the controls, that way, he can shower AND control the plane at the same time.

Loved him in Dae Jang Geum (he was awesome in that - as was the entire cast). Also in The Man Who Can't Get Married (the entire cast was excellent!). Also in his movie, Parallel Life. That movie has more twists than a pretzel. Seriously! Good movie! Highly recommended! I bought all three titles, and I'm very careful about which dvd sets I buy because they're quite pricey (especially DJG!). But whatever Ji Jin Hee is in is bound to be good!

I've only seen JJH in "Dong Yi" and was impressed by his acting and his on-screen charm (plus, he simply has one of the best jaw-lines among K-actors).

It definitely is a bit weird seeing him outside of sageuk garb.

The photo where GHS is being thrown into the fountain isn't a particularly flattering one, but she also has kinda a weird face (at times can be pretty, other times not so much).
