Modern rock band Zitten splits
by javabeans
Well, this is a bummer, since I love this group and their moody, melodic music: The two-member indie rock band 짙은, or Zitten, is losing one of its members. Granted, the group isn’t necessarily over, because singer-guitarist Sung Yong-wook will be continuing on as a solo act under the name Zitten. But losing drummer Yoon Hyung-ro still means that the old partnership is over.
The band posted the notice on the 17th to their internet fan cafe, and explained the amicable separation. Yoon wrote, “I want to see it as the beautiful close to a successful and happy season. As with Zitten’s beginning, I hope you’ll think of this as the planning of a trip to fill up on more stories to tell.”
Remaining member Sung Yong-wook explained that they’d come together considering it more of a project than a band. The two are close friends and see each other nearly daily, and likely that won’t change.

Zitten – “If.” This is probably my favorite track of theirs, or at least one of my top picks.

The group has been together since their student days and were initially in a different band together. They both ended up quitting separately, and upon meeting up afterward they started playing together and writing songs. Because they hadn’t come together with the intention to be an official band, it was only after they’d been playing together for a while that they even named themselves.
When drummer Yoon Hyung-ro received his draft notice in 2007, they decided to record an album of their songs before Yoon had to enlist, recording most of the instrumentals themselves. The first EP sold out its 500 print run within three months.
During the two years without his bandmate, Sung Yong-wook submitted a demo to Pastel Music, which you may recognize as the label for a number of Korea’s indie and twee-pop bands (other artists include Casker, Humming Urban Stereo, Epitone Project, Yozoh, Taru, The Melody, Tensi Love, Lucia, and Cloud Cuckoo Band.).

Zitten – “그녀” (Her). Another one of my favorites. [ Download ]
In 2009, Zitten participated on the soundtrack for the drama Triple, which was directed by PD Lee Yoon-jung and whose music director was Tearliner. You may recall both those names working together on Coffee Prince previously in 2007, as well as that drama’s heavily Pastel-populated soundtrack. Below are a few of the songs from the Triple OST, featuring the band.
The two members will give a final performance together on December 17 to commemorate the new album that goes on sale next month.

Here's the link to buy their concert tickets, but you have to create a yes24 account first. Looks like there are 2 ticket prices: 33,000 & 44,000 won.

It's a shame, but if they felt it was right then it had to be done. Best of luck to them in whatever they do.
We can still enjoy the music they have made so far and it will keep being wonderful, whether they are together or not.

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? GAHHHH.
Although I usually only think of the singer when I listen to Zitten, I believe the duo had this charm when they performed together.

Gyeot E will always be one of my favorite songs.
I remember listening to it for the first time at the end of the movie "Arang" and I fell in love with it instantly.

Aww shucks. I really like a few of their song... I always just thought its a one person project, or it was just when the guy was playing guitar alone when he was with Pastel... his voice really bring out the emo in me...
Just glad that even though... they are disbanding... but glad that they are still close close friends...

"Feel alright" always smooth my hectic days (thou I've always have the urge to correct 'em pronunciation..^_^). It is short, smart, relaxing & won't wake me up when I used to make it as my alarm tone! duh~).
It is a sad fact dat they're breaking up. but I'll support good music, even Zitten is a solo act now..himnae~!
