Fermentation Family’s posters and character stills
by javabeans
The new posters for the jTBC cable drama Fermentation Family aren’t the most exciting bunch around, but they do convey a tastefulness (ha, pun!) in their presentation of the drama’s family- and kimchi-centric premise.
Fermentation Family stars Song Il-kook (A Man Called God) and Park Jin-hee (Giant) as the main couple who falls into a bickering relationship, as you can see in the stills below. He’s the restaurant owner and she’s the part-time employee, and together they argue and nitpick the tiniest details as they develop their “upbeat, cute romance.”
The atmosphere of these images reminds me a bit of Gourmet, with its pretty landscapes in the backdrop and the classy showcase of traditional foods. Despite not finding the basic premise of a family restaurant all that thrilling, if it’s like Gourmet at all, I can see how it would work with the characters interacting, bonding, and conflicting as they work together in one place and have differing ideas of how to stay true to their traditions while remaining successful. A drama like this really depends on execution over premise, so we’ll have to wait and see if it can deliver on that front.
Fermentation Family premieres on December 7 on jTBC.

If I were just going off the music in that trailer, I'd think it was a telenovela, not a kdrama.

I liked TWWSWTM a lot too. It's one of the dramas I watch when I'm having a bad day:D
I'd recommend: What's Up, Fox (alternate title: Foxy Lady) with Chun Jung Myung and Go Hyun Jung

alright I can't wait for this to come out.... I love anything food related. I am hoping for some awesome food porn.
From the posters, seems like they're going to go with the traditional subtly which is the way I like it ... unlike all the TVB food dramas I've seen... totally overdone, it's like watching a live action version of an anime.
And besides, I loooove Park Jin hee!

I liked her in War of Money. Thats her right? Anyways I already like the sound of their relationship. She's got balls to be picking fights with the owner. I like her already.

Not sure about watching this one.
I adore Song Il-kook in sageuks and yet can barely tolerate him in contemporary pieces.
I like the premise of this drama - food related, it's all good!

The story is the other way around.
It's "SHE’s the restaurant owner and HE’s the part-time employee".

Hi javabeans,
I loved your drama food montage in the Gourmet recaps. I even saved your recaps because of the awesome and delicious food photos.
I love any drama involving food. I will watch out for this.

Javabeans,
I'm sad you are not re-capping the series. So far it's been really good and I've really enjoyed it. After each episode I always come read the recaps and find things I've missed. I totally rely on the recaps for that. I feel so alone watching the drama without your recaps.

Love, love this!! My current favorite besides Padam Padam.
Beautiful writing, plots, characters and the scenery!!
It makes me home sick to go to Korea and spend at least a month just tasting all the foods they are making.
JB, please recap so people won't miss out on this one..

Clearly, neither javabeans nor girlfriday are fans of Fermentation/Kimchi Family. The show is not on dramabeans' recap list.
That's fine. Obviously even those two are going to have their likes and dislikes. And how crazy would it be to try and keep track of EVERY K-drama that comes out? (VERY.)
F/KF is no Pasta. And it is no Gourmet. It's very low-key compared to those two, both in its romantic elements and in its food worship.
Sometimes it's blatantly moralistic, though in a sweet, hopeful way.
And the switching back and forth from restaurant family scenes to crime family scenes is just a little disconcerting at times.
Oh, and Dad wandering about like an itinerant martial arts master . . . ???
But for reasons I can't always put my finger on, I love it to death.

I find this drama very entertaining actually. It's one of the dramas I look forward to every week (along with The Moon that Embraces the Sun). I especially like how they would feature in each episode a kind of kimchi/ Korean dish, and how that specific dish would be involved in the episode's story line. Too bad recaps for this drama are not done in this website, but I hope dramabeans or girlfriday would be able to watch this and give an overall review on this one because I think it's worth reviewing. I really enjoy reading dramabeans/ girlfriday's opinions and views on dramas so it would really be great if this one would be reviewed by them.

I love reading the recaps here at this site but must say that I am disappointed that there is no recap nor even a mention of Fermented Family. So many other Kdramas are predictable, silly, loaded with over-the-top acting and the same-old same-old themes like the Cinderella story. This show has so much heart, a great deal of suspense, some kick ass fighting, incredible scenery and lots of food porn. I can't get enough of it and am saddened that there is no recap. But then again, I'm not paying to visit this site and it's no knock on the great work that is done on this site. But seriously, anyone else out there agree that this is a great show, or am I (and everyone else I know who watches it) alone? Just sayin'

This show is so worth the watch!! I started it once Padam Padam completed. I love the story! I cry with every side story whereby people who come to the restaurant relive moments in their past on how the restaurant, the owners or the food have saved their life!! Every story is so heart-wrenching! I cannot begin to pinpoint one in particular. The actor and his wife/girlfriend (not sure) is probably the saddest of them all!! This is so worth watching!!

I too really loved this drama and I am sorry that in my search of best dramas I haven't seen it on any lists. Generally I like a lot of the same dramas as dramabeans so I feel sad that they missed it. Should be on the drama list. Made me want to watch more of the main actor--he was so good in this. Different. Great scenery and good food. It was a feel good drama.
