Kang Ye-won, Lee Je-hoon cast in horror comedy Fortunetellers
by javabeans
“Horror comedy” are two words that instantly pique my interest (I’m thinking Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland) so I’m already liking the sound of Fortunetellers, a new film that has just cast up-and-comers Kang Ye-won and Lee Je-hoon as the leads.
The premise sounds promising, too: In a village hit by a “mysterious event,” a motley group of fortunetellers possessing a hodgepodge of talents is marshaled to pick up clues.
The actors are another plus, with both leads having steadily built up creds in the film world in recent years. Lee Je-hoon is a name that pings my radar every time I hear about him, because he picks interesting projects and then reportedly rocks them, whether he’s a lead (as in the queer youth romance Just Friends?) or a memorable supporting role (war movie The Front Line, moody indie film Bleak Night, light romantic comedy Finding Kim Jong-wook). Kang Ye-won has also been making a name for herself with roles in movies like action flick Quick, quirky comedy Hello Ghost, and disaster blockbuster Haeundae.
Then there’s director Shin Jung-won, who already displayed some talent in this genre with the dark comedy thriller Chaw, about a killer boar.
In the movie, Kang Ye-won plays a reporter on the city beat who aims to get at the bottom of the case. Lee Je-hoon will play a talented fortuneteller, while funnyman Kim Su-ro (God of Study) takes up the role of a psychic who rallies the group together.
All right, I’m in!
Fortunetellers plans to begin shooting mid-October.
