Tons of stills from Lee Hong-ki’s Noriko Goes to Seoul

With Chuseok fast approaching, the upcoming holiday weekend will be chock-full of Chuseok specials as South Koreans clog up the national highways going home, spend time with the folks, eat tons of holiday food…and pass the time watching family-friendly television.

One of KBS’s specials is Noriko Goes to Seoul, scenes from which you can see in the tons of stills below. The special — I guess you could consider it akin to a TV movie, or a one-act drama — stars FT Island singer (and You’re Beautiful idol boy Jeremy) Lee Hong-ki, alongside Japanese actress Takashima Reiko.

In a nutshell: She’s a Japanese housewife, he’s the aspiring musician who fails audition after audition; the two develop a friendship and she helps him through the difficulties of heading toward his dream.

The plot in more detail:

Takashima plays the titular Noriko, a housewife who comes to Korea because she’s a fan of Hallyu star singer Kim Hyun-jae, whom she calls Hyon-jjang. She has a taciturn husband of 17 years and a teenage daughter Miyuki, neither of whom can understand her fandom. However, one day she gets the diagnosis that she’s got lung cancer, her daughter decides to quit the sports activities she’d liked so much, and her husband just stands idly by.

Hearing that her beloved Hyon-jjang is judging an audition process in Seoul, and thinking she’ll show her daughter what it means to have courage, Noriko rustles up her own and heads for Korea to participate in the audition. Even though her Korean skills are clumsy and she’s clearly destined to be cut right away.

In so doing, Noriko meets a young man, Min-ha (Lee Hong-ki), a talented 20-year-old who’s full of passion for music but whose hopes are continually frustrated as he fails multiple auditions. Despite their differences in age, gender, and nationality, they develop a touching relationship as she helps him find his passion again.

(I have no idea what that leopard-print blazer is doing in Hong-ki’s wardrobe. Maybe Min-ha strikes it big after all and becomes a rock star? Aw, and then Noriko can finally be besties with a Hallyu star singer, and she can call him Min-jjang.)

Sounds cute and heart-warming, just the kind of thing that Chuseok programming loves. Noriko Goes to Seoul airs on September 10.

Oh dear. Looks like I'm going to have to alert my daughter. She only had eyes for Jeremy in YAB. *sigh* There will be much squealing in my household tonight.... :)

Eeek! @ the leopard-print blazer! Have you been borrowing clothes from Jang Geun-seok? Tae-kyung? Hehe.

Aaw. Hong-ki must be missing Heechul too nowadays.

Wah ! Gonna watch it if somebody would sub it. However, from the story description, I thought Noriko would bring her daughter along to Seoul (to show her what it meant to have courage). Then she could have a loveline with Min-ha. Heh.

Hah!

Leopard blazer + perm = Rock Star!

This looks cute, but please tell me there's no romance in this. I just suffered through "Love Song in August" with SS501's Park Jung Min. It was beyond awful and awkward
with an older married woman/young rock idol plot.

I don't know why but this type of loveline is a trend now~ =,=

But if it's Noriko's daughter who will be with Minha, that's better..^^

Let's just hope the storyline in this drama is good enough to make us accept it~ *nooo...*

btw, fighting Noriko!^^ gonna love this drama though~~

It's not even a drama - it's more like an extended MV - an extremely poorly acted one with stiff dialogue. :(

I loved this drama! Watched it without subs but somehow I still really enjoyed it. And I don't agree with the previous comment, I think all the actors acted very well. And don't worry, there's no romance with a 20 yr age gap or anything. I definitely recommend it!

This looks ADORABLE. Hopefully the lung cancer can be cured. Drama gods, isn't it also inspiring to see the story of someone who fights through so the cancer is in remission? There's always a chance it will come back, so you can have your cake and eat it, too: happy ending plus bittersweetness.

No?

God, I hate the c-word in relation to dramas. I'll still check this one out, though.

I love Takashima Reiko. She has this charismatic presence whenever she is on-screen, regardless whatever roles she had played. Probably one of those actress that knows the perfect timing to be comical then, switching on a heartwarming scene. I might be feeling a bit indifferent for the language barrier but that will be a solid reason to look forward for this one-shot drama. For Lee Hongki, I haven't see him much in any dramas, other than You're Beautiful and I guess it is much anticipating to see a different side of his acting skill if he plays more serious role than Jeremy's.

Lee Hongki is back!!

I love his cute acting in You Are Beautiful. He is so adorable....

I think Lee Hongki has potential in acting.
Besides his busy schedule as a popular singer in FT Island, I do hope in the future he can develop himself into serious actor.
I can't wait his movie to be broadcasted with english sub.

Hey it's the lawyer lady from Ata Dan. I had to check to make sure because she looks skinnier. Sounds good, I will watch as long as there is no dubbing. Quite a few dramas these days are using Hallyu stars as part of their story. Heh the nihonjins boycotting Hallyu probably won't sit well with this.
