Love Rain holds initial script reading
by javabeans
Huh, script reading already? Love Rain isn’t scheduled to air till 2012, but the main cast convened recently for its first script reading, which included actors Jang Geun-seok, Yoon-ah, Kim Shi-hoo, Sohn Eun-seok, Hwang Bora, and Seo In-gook. (I use the term scheduled loosely; technically Love Rain isn’t scheduled at all, in that it doesn’t have a concrete timeslot, but producers are aiming to secure a broadcast slot for early next year.)
Regarding the drama’s story, Yoon PD said, “There were a lot of one-sided loves in the ’70s era, a time period that the actors haven’t experienced for themselves. It was also a happy time, and the script reflects a lot of the emotions and experience that still linger in my memory.” According to one production company source, “Veteran PD Yoon Suk-ho led the proceedings and explained everything in detail, not leaving out even the smallest thing.”
Yoon-ah, playing two roles as a university student in the 1970s and her plucky daughter in 2012, said, “The two characters have conflicting traits, so I felt the burden of playing both roles. But after working with the director, writer, and other actors I feel like we fit well together, which is reassuring.”
Sounds like Yoon PD has a very specific idea for what he wants to achieve, and I predict the drama will heavily bear his imprint: Scenic locales, a mood-enhancing soundtrack, a strong dose of sentimentality, and lots of melodramangst. In all the news about Yoon Suk-ho and his young cast, I hadn’t paid as much attention to the writer, but now that I remember that Oh Soo-yeon worked on Season Dramas Autumn Fairy Tale (scriptwriter) and Winter Sonata (initial writer), as well as the Cinderella story All About Eve and the extremely angsty A Star’s Lover, I’m feeling warier than ever. I love a good melodrama and I’m not averse to angst, but I hope Love Rain’s pure-love and fated-through-the-generations premise can convey youthful melodrama in a new way, rather than giving us Hallyu Dramas Redux.

I'll give this drama a chance. I want to judge Yoona's acting based on her actual performance. Plus, I think some people judge her more harshly than other newbie actors. I hope she does well just to prove people wrong if for no other reason.
I think JGS is a good actor, but haven't had any good roles lately so looking forward to something with more depth from him.

suddenly, there is a scene pupped up into my brain from " You are so Beautiful", JGS was chased by pigs when he was in the beautiful countryside, I couldn't stop laughing, this how I feel about how awkward if JGS in this drama.

Yoonah? Dual role? I was wondering how she'll handle "a" role and now there's two! This is really a disaster...

I hope after a while Yoona will be too busy to continue filming this so they can change her out of this drama.

Forget about Yoona already. JGS is so beautiful he can play BOTH hero AND heroine here. He gets to fall in love with himself - now, how many actors can say they've done that? Speaking in a girly voice shouldn't be a problem, Mickey Mouse did it, so can he. So instead of playing two characters, he can get to play FOUR instead! What a challenge! The perk? He gets to keep all that long, beautiful hair.

Actually if this becomes Hallyu Drama redux then I'm definitely watching...it'll give me a lot to snark and laugh about...and with the acting with all these green/Newbies could be laughably bad('course I'm not saying it definitely will, there's always a possibilty that I'd get a surprise)
sigh...JGS, what are you doing with your career??? You are so damn talented that I dont even care abt your ego but it's pretty clear with all your latest projects that ur aiming for the popularity factor here....I really wish you'd try to challenge your self instead

I hope JGS get rid of that hat, lol.
Serious comment: I am feeling flat about this drama. Not sure I am going to watch it. Maybe I will watch to see if YoonA proved me wrong about her acting ability.

I don't understand. "There were a lot of one-sided loves in the ’70"??? I don't think there are less now? Ok maybe it's just me, but I don't think this phrase makes sense. Not in my brain at least XD

Haha.. All the active discussions we have here seem more engaging than the drama itself. While i adore JGS, I am not tempted to watch this. But I will stay tune to reviews here instead... This would be more interesting and entertaining.

Geez, give the girl a chance, they haven't even started filming yet, and yet there're so many "this is going to be bad for sure"s already.
Thank god JGS had a haircut, or this is going to be soooooo weird... "Where's the male lead???" xD
I hope there won't be any cancer, it'll not only kill the character but the whole drama as well... =/

Do you think this is a trap for JGS in Love Rain? He was the first to be offered and accepted without knowing who are the other actors. Pity him if this drama does not do well because he was expecting highly rated drama after MMM. This is the problem when PD do not name and confirm the actors simultaneously. Sort of a trap for him here to work with mediocre actors to sell the drama to international market, because JGS is famous outside Korea. He will surely feel frustrated if other actors cannot perform at par with him. Just my opinion.

I'm very excited about this drama and very happy for JGS to being chosen for lead role by Yoon Suk Ho himself. His dramas and their stars were pioneers of Hallyu. My k-drama addiction started with Autumn tale.He knows how to find beautiful and perspective actors such as Song Seung Hun,Won Bin,Song Hye Kyo,Bae Young Joon,Choi Ji Woo,Son Ye Jin,Han Hyo Joo. He helped their stardom.I hope that this new drama will help to rise JGS's already big stardom to the very top. I wasn't dissapointed by any of his dramas,so I deeply believe "Love Rain" will take it's place in hearts of millions people all over the world. And I totally agree with your last sentence, javabeans!

lol what is with all these poor Jang Geun Suk comments?
he chose to be in this production
there's nothing to feel sorry for
if the drama fails, no one is gonna be blaming the writers or directors anyways. all of that will fall on the lead actress' plate

It sounds exactly like the movie 'The Classic'. Not hating on Yoona but she's too GG for me. I don't think I can thing of her as another character. It's just like seeing KHJ doing acting. I can't take him seriously because I always picture him dancing and doing variety.

Why I feel the unfairness parading in front of my face, casting someone who fails to convince me with her acting skills and is assigned to act in TWO roles at different time line ? Are there no more capable young actresses around ?

I am a big fan of YAB and JGS, so I'd thought I'd give this drama a chance. Recent happenings has put me in a dilemma.. Still, I would give it a try on one condition: he cuts his hair SHORT.
I mean, why hasn't he done that already?

I've lost interest in this one. Well, they're planning for a 2012 time slot and good luck to them.
If they get someone prettier than JGS as female lead, perhaps I'll give it a thought.

I think i've got it! I think I've got it!
Just been watching Princess Man and there's this lovely young actress Moon Chae Won, who is not only pretty (prettier than JGS, I'm sure) but her acting is par excellence.
She would nicely fit into the role of covering 2 generations and would be able to cover a wide range of emotions in addition of having the whatever the PD is looking for in the lead actress.
They should really negotiate with her now and see if she can take on LOVE RAIN. With the ratings and excellent response garnered from Princess Man, this actress would not be too easy to cast in the near future.

has anyone seen "Unstoppable Marriage" (the sitcom)? Yoona was pretty decent there.
In my opinion, she acts better as the mean girl rather than the fragile damsel-in-distress.
Here's a part of me hoping that the 'daughter' she's going to portray is a rebellious teen-girl.

This drama is going to be a overrated I bet. First of all,Jang geun seuk who has lots of fans in both korea and japan. Yoon-Ah (Need I say more about SNSD's Japan concert?) plus this is a melodrama by Winter Sonata's PD which ahjummas would be so happy to watch. Sigh~

oh lordy! will that mean that we'll have all three:
1. brother-sister-not really sibling love-triangle angst
2. cancer/leukemia
3. memory lost
that was the reason why i recoiled from early korean dramas and only started watching k-drama from 'goong' onward.. >_<

Yoona looks adorable in these pictures. Honestly my expectations aren't that high (because of the PD + Writer combo) but... I hope that the drama surpasses expectations. I'll check it out, if only to see how Yoona and JGS interact on screen.

trying to understand why everyone is so negative, but then i guess it's all based on personal preference. I honestly believe that JGS and Yoona are going to be great for each other. i only believe so because i think they will make up for each others shortcomings. looking at pictures of them both together, i feel that they can really pull off being a real couple (which Yoona has had trouble with doing in the past). i'm a hopeless romantic, so i believe i'm gonna love this drama. but its whatever. everyone has their own opinion.

I'm currently at Epi 15 and think that this couple is just amazing together! In terms of plot and storyline though, Rooftop Prince is more interesting (Can't help the comparison as I'm watching these 2 dramas together).
But i must say this pairing blows my mind!!!
