Kim Joo-hyuk and Shin Ha-kyun up for Brain transplants?
by girlfriday
Yeah, you can pretty much forget about any article NOT making brain jokes when it comes to this drama. Upcoming medical drama Brain has had more casting drama than its fictional drama could ever live up to, and now that it’s fired one cast and lost the other, it’s got two heavy-hitters — Kim Joo-hyuk (Terroir, Sleeping With the Enemy) and Shin Ha-kyun (The Front Line, Cafe Noir) — reportedly in contention for the lead role.
Okay, now THAT’s a totally different direction. We went from twentysomething relative newbies, to pretty boy Hallyu star, and now to serious actor territory? What the hell IS this drama? Is it even written yet? What kind of character is so ill-defined that it could be played by Lee Sang-yoon, Song Seung-heon, Kim Joo-hyuk OR Shin Ha-kyun?
If it’s really going with serious film actors, then this drama is pretty much trying to be White Tower 2: With or Without Brains. I just don’t know what it was trying to be BEFORE. Basically one drama went from being Scrubs to Grey’s Anatomy to House all in one pre-production period, and it’s scrambled my brains. Both of these actors are top-shelf leading men, so there’s no question they’d be amazing in whatever role. I just hope the drama’s worth their talents.
Don’t you think the original cast should get together and make a rival drama about zombies called BRAAAAAAAAAINS where you think you killed somebody (or fired them from your set), but they rise from the dead and come back to eat your brains? Now THAT’s a drama I’d like to see.
Brain will follow Poseidon and premiere November 14 on KBS.

I really like your BRAAAAAINS idea. Especially if it's with the original cast. That would be sweet!
I really really really want a zombie drama now, either way.

-Yes please, sign me up for that drama.
This is getting way too crazy, I'm starting to wonder if the script has even been written (or how many times it's been rewritten to fit the cast). They're supposed to start filming this week, so KJH and SHK are pretty much their last chances. To be honest, I hope they don't get a cast and the drama never airs because what the director did to the original cast is just too ridiculous to not get punished for.

Agreed. But that's probably how it goes in the entertainment industry. Sad that the younger cast got cheated though. It would be a lesson learned if one of these actors don't sign up and the drama will be kaput. However, if it does air, I hope it really is worth the talent of KJH and SHK. Would suck even more they get stuck with a rotten egg or should I say a failing kidney? Oh, this is about Brains... I have no analogies :(.
"BRAAAAAAAAAINS," bring on the possible meta!
The Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, and House refs were spot on! Oh how I wish I could be good at writing.

At this rate I'm *really* wondering if they'll be rejected again and have nowhere else to turn but the orginal cast.

Lol check out "Walking Dead" if you're in the mood for a zombie flick.
Has Korea done any zombie dramas? Or will that be the new fad once the vampire thing is overdone?

I love both Kim Joo-hyuk and Shin Ha-kyun and would be completely ecstatic to see either of them in a drama (and there's Jung Jin-young, too!) but I'm having doubts about Brain. None of the actors (past and present) in contention for the lead have a similar vibe which could mean that the character is flexible or that he's not well written or worst case scenario, the script isn't even written enough to the point where the character is defined meaning crazy schedules and possibly flimsy writing.
Argh!! I'm so torn! I really want to see Kim Joo-hyuk or Shin Ha-kyun but definitely not in a bad drama.
In addition, what the producers did to the original cast was mean and unprofessional even if it isn't all that too uncommon. Seriously, if an actor suddenly quit after an agreement, the production company goes berserk. I hope everything doesn't go smoothly for the production company, so they can learn a lesson.

I am not holding my hopes up for anyone. Not even when they do the 1st reading.
I mean...ergh :-(
Pretty speechless with all these antics.Just waiting now to see what else is new on the casting front.I hope the PD is scrambling and in a panic because they deserve it.

Answer: ZOMBIES! They can all play the lead because Zombie makeup makes everyone look the same.

I can see how the original cast can be compared to Scrubs for youth, but the only way Song Seung-heon could be considered a Grey's Anatomy material is because supposedly he's hot..... I say supposedly because I do not find him hot (I prefer the Hugh Jackmans, Ian Anthony Dales, Takeshi Kaneshiros, Karl Urbans and the like, of the world... Throw in the Justin Longs too please).... But seriously? SSH is so not Grey's. Not even close. He's just too... Un-epic. XD

Wow. Another change, this time to a mature serious cast. Too bad SSH's not taking on the lead....sigh. Guess this means I won't be watching this.

i think the script must be braindead...
only solution : Reanimator or maybe they should just keep the sheets to recycle them as set props on an other drama.
when it doesn't work, most of the time there is a good reason...

Brain was based on the Japanese drama, right?
The original cast a late 30-something good looking, but slightly over the Hill big star of Japan.
Then a hot 20-something actress straight off of the drama Hotaru no Hikari.
Then it did a case, by case Neurology study and did the typical, she's into you, and you know it, but you're not going to ever resolve it. (Which launched Ayase-san's career into doing yet more of those such as in Jin.)
The original production was sponsored by a truckload of people, got lots of press and about no one in the drama community seemed to notice it though it was well-written and well-acted. (Directing was OK...)
I don't think it would do well as a Korean drama, 'cause it was on an episode by episode basis... which means either regrounding the characters via Can't Lose territory, or just letting it half suck on logic like BoF. And melodrama... are you serious? The original was quirky and a bit silly.

Based on the synopsis (http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/09/medical-drama-brain-lines-up-male-leads/) this has no relation at all to Mr. Brain (Kimura/Ayase procedural). It sounds more like a straight medical drama, nearer to White Tower/House but with the warm fuzzies.
