Catch Korean films at the Festival Franco-Coréen du Film
by javabeans
Sunny
Heads up to you Korean drama/cinema buffs in France: The upcoming 6th Festival Franco-Coréen du Film (FCFF) takes place in two weeks, and it’s got a pretty attractive lineup of Korean films, including an appearance by Jung Yumi (love her!), who stars in two of them (Cafe Noir and Come, Closer).
Two directors will also be in attendance: Kang Hyeong-cheol of the festival’s opening film, heart-warming girl-power comedy Sunny, and Yoon Sung-hyun of the lauded Bleak Night. (Both movies are at the top of my must-watch-asap list.) The festival closes with animated feature Leafie.
Below is a pretty cute trailer for the film festival, which takes you through the various genres being screened, using a shoe motif:
In addition to the films named above, feature screenings also include:
Anti-Gas Skin (방독피) (Fiction-experimental)
Bleak Night (파수꾼) (Fiction)
Cafe Noir (카페 느와르) (Fiction)
Castaway on the Moon (김씨표류기) (Fiction)
Cheonggyecheon Medley (청계천 메들리) (Documentary)
The Code of a Duel (도시락) (Fiction)
Come, Closer (조금만 더 가까이) (Fiction)
End of Animal (짐승의 끝) (Fiction)
Grandmother’s Flower (할매꽃) (Documentary)
Hello Ghost (헬로우 고스트) (Fiction)
Invasion of Alien Bikini (에일리언 비키니) (Fiction)
Late Autumn (만추) (Fiction)
Miracle on Jongno Street (종로의 기적) (Documentary)
Possessed (불신지옥)(Fiction)
Re-encounter (혜화, 동) (Fiction)
Sunny (써니) (Fiction)
The Unjust (부당거래) (Fiction)
There are also categories for short films and classics.
Cafe Noir
You probably recognize some of those titles; we’ve written about a number of them previously:
For those not in France: FCFF has worked out a partnership with Mubi.com, who will screen FCFF’s competition of 17 short films online and for free during the whole festival.
Festival dates: October 11-18, 2011
Location: Le Cinema Saint-André-des-Arts (http://www.cinesaintandre.fr)

I've watched Sunny and Hello Ghost. Both of them are among the best movies I've watched all year. Fact is, Sunny is one of my all-time favourite movies!! It's so endearing. Hello Ghost is also super sweet. And yeah, both made me bawl my eyes out, especially Hello Ghost, which I did not see coming at all.

Since you are mentioning film festivals, two Korean films are being screened at the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Festival in London next month: 줄탁동시 (Stateless Things) and
북촌 방향 (The Day He Arrives). Got a ticket for the first one (plus tickets for three Japanese films...).
See: http://www.koreanfilm.co.uk/
Korean Film Fest is also coming up in London in November (see http://www.ica.org.uk/30606/Seasons/London-Korean-Film-Festival-2011.html) - showing some of the same films as at the festival you mentioned. Will definitely try to catch some of those ("Sunny"!).

Yay! Finally some French (my first language). Too bad I live in Canada. Wonder if there is a similar festival in Montreal?

There is: it's called Fantasia and it lasts for 3 weeks (mid- July to early August). This year was the 15th edition with a focus on South Korean films.
They played Psychic (with Go Soo), Pretty Roman (with Choi Kang Hee and The Voice), and many others.
A few years back, they had a screening of Antique Bakery with some of the cast in attendance - it was pure madness.
Bonne soirée!

Sigh, I'm about to be completely roped in by Korean films. "Anti Gas Skin" looks oddly interesting, the first thing I noticed was the Geum Jan Di hair. Has anyone seen this movie?

I wish I could go to France but barring that, the Vancouver Film Festival starts tomorrow and I'm planning to see a couple of korean movies (Fatigue, A Time to Love and some shorts).
The Montreal film festival sounds intriguing. Maybe next year.

*hyperventilating*
IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO Y HOUSE - Okay, not quite, but it's less than 10 metro stations away without changing lines. HAAAAH ! For once there IS something linked to Kdramas and Kmovies happening here :D
Definitely noting it down my agenda right away. I'll probably check it out on the 15th or 16th of October.
(On a sidenote: "Invasion of Alien Bikini" ? Really ? Hopefully I'll get to watch Sunny or Late Autumn when I go there, because this one sounds... odd/creepy/intergalactically twisted)

Heeeey, even better is living WITHIN Paris *totally not bragging, I swear*

hahahaha, sure, totally not bragging!
but what really matters is...WATCHING MOVIES!!!!
pourquoi je sens qu'on nous déteste, tout à coup ?
Yeah, copine \o/
I'll stop here, since I'm always frustrated when people comment in languages I can't decipher.
I think I'll go on the first day for Sunny..
Gosh, I have an interview the same day, I so hope I'll score, and then enjoy my time at the cinema!
Even if I fail, I'll still go anyway, to soothe my little heart! Hah.
Elina: I feel for you, lady. NOT
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
(ok, that was cruel. sorry)

Yeah, same, I have uni classes to attend to all week mais tant pis. Les devoirs, ils se feront plus tard (tous seuls comme des grands? I wish (a))
I guess I'll see you around for Sunny on Tuesday if I ever make it, then ! I'll try to, though, je veux vraiment, vraaaaaiment le voir. (Oh lord, Frenglish taking over again).

September 29, 2011 at 3:50 PM
heeeeeeeeeey, so that makes me your onni ! *totally not bragging I swear* XDDD
that's not how you use franglish ma chère !
You have to mélanger les words inside the very même sentence! That façon, it is much more drôle, tu ne think pas ?
And, désolée to burst you bulle, but non, les devoirs won't se faire alone, darling. Believe me, j'ai essayé.
Génial, on se donne un code pour se reconnaître, au cas où ? ;D

Mais, but, mais!.... My phrase was parfaitement frenglish ! Just divisée into deux languages. (We should stop here, it's getting incompréhensible haha)
Okay, Unni~. Thing is, I finish my classes late on Tuesdays (19h30), so I won't be able to be in advance at the theater (20 mins early max - now let's hope the other k-movie maniacs won't be numerous). Hope it will be enough though :/
If I come right after school, I'll probably be the one with un grand carton à dessin dans un sac noir Clairefontaine X)

I use Google Translate to understand more or less what's going on when I can't decipher the language.
Alright, sometimes (often) it doesn't help me to get it...

Random question: will the movies be subtitled in either English of French? Cause as much as I love Korean, I don't speak more than five words of it.

To answer your question, all the films will be subtitled in French.
About Sunny, there might be a lot of people at Tuesday screening as it's the opening ceremony. Reservations are not open for this screening, so you will have to arrive early to enter.
For other screenings (including Sunny on Thursday), reservations are open here: http://www.fnacspectacles.com/recherche/rechercheRapide.do?search=festival+franco+coreen
