Kim Bum and Han Ji-min join Padam Padam
by girlfriday
What the? Okay, I’m officially confused and excited. Kim Bum (The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, Boys Over Flowers) and Han Ji-min (Cain and Abel, Yi San) have joined the cast of the new Noh Hee-kyung drama, Padam Padam… The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats.
But… KIM BUM? In a Noh Hee-kyung drama, known for wordy, witty dialogue? Listen, I love cutie pie noona killer more than the average bear. Really. But this casting is a little confusing, to say the least. It makes me super curious about the story, for one thing. Especially since he’s going to play friend to leading man Jung Woo-sung, who is going to make him look twelve. Scratch that. Twelve-er.
His character is named Kook-soo, aka Noodles, which is already cracking me up. I hope it’s a nickname, because who names their child Noodles? He and Jung Woo-sung’s Yang Kang-chil are friends… in jail… and Kook-soo is his “guardian angel.” Wait, is this like 49 Days: The Prison Years? Is Kim Bum following in his bestie Jung Il-woo’s footsteps and going ghostly on us?
Sadly, I think the description is figurative, so he’s just going to be someone who watches Jung Woo-sung’s back in the big house. But that leads to the question… wouldn’t it more realistically be the other way around? Just sayin’. Perhaps Noodles is a wily conmanboy who’s got the ward wired. Or maybe he has the escape route tattooed all over his body, hm? Okay, I take it back. I’m now fully onboard with this idea. Can Noodles also have lackeys who are twice his size, named Tiny and Ramen?
Listen, it’s the production’s fault for releasing the measly breadcrumbs: “Noodles,” “Jail,” and “Guardian Angel.” What conclusion is a logical person with imagination supposed to draw? If he shows up on a motorcycle that teleports, I’m going to love this drama.
In a less surprising move, Han Ji-min has been confirmed to be the leading lady set to romance Jung Woo-sung. (And Noodles? We’ll have to wait and see if he’s a love rival as well as a guardian angel.) Han has been attached to the project for some time, but the production has since remained vague about final casting until Jung Woo-sung was confirmed as the lead yesterday.
This will be Han’s first drama in two years since Cain and Abel, and she’ll be playing Jung Jin-ah, a vet with some deep emotional scars, which have made her put up walls to keep people at bay. She starts out as a cold and indifferent person, but when she meets Kang-chil who has led such a rough life, she experiences a love that makes her give all of herself for the first time. So… after jail, yeah? Not like, during? It’s not just me, right? This story confuses the hell out of me.
Padam Padam…The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats is set to premiere in December on cable network jTBC.

jTBC. Apparently cable really IS trying to take over. Not that a Noh Hee-kyung drama will rake in the ratings. Her stuff is more in the 'critical darling' category, less 'rake in the dough.'

I'm soooo excited!!! LOL Noodles?! I think his role looks promising. I'm sure he'll give it justice. I just hope that he won't get involved in a love triangle here. That would just be odd. Haha. And yeah, his character reminds me a lot of Il Woo's Scheduler.

Girlfriday, since this drama is being ridiculous, can you ask the PD to make Tiny black? I know it's a very Western cliche, but you know that whenever there's a gang leader/prison lord/mafia don around, he always has one lackey that's a BIG-ASS black dude named "Tiny" (fist-pump for the token). That shit cracks my shit up every. single. time.
Also, I know this article was about Kim Bum's role in the drama, but really you just used it as an excuse to say "Noodles" over and over and over again, to the point where it was starting to sound a bit pervy. And it was awesome.

Pahahaha! So WRONG. So, so wrong. Korea would have a conniption fit if any of their princesses went black. But I would enjoy reading about it.

Awww - sweet Bummie makes me happy!
I'm on board for this one. Confusing? Yeah.
But, I do recall all the confusion that was the precursor for my enchanted "City Hunter" when none of us could figure out what in the hell all those pre-airing posters and stills were all about and thought it was going to be one "Shitty Hunter". And we all know how that turned out.
So, Pandam sounds interesting, I really like the casting and, as usual I'm appreciating the great laugh I got from reading GF's take on this one!

To me, the more confusing the plot is before we actually see it, the better. 49 Days and City Hunter have worked well in that regard so far -- the "What is going ON?" photo stills and descriptions were baffling, but paid off.

is this gonna be a trend where they release confusing stills and snippets of plots to keep us guessing and going crazy with our theories a la 'city hunter'? and we were laughing our heads off (when we weren't scratching it) as the pics gets weirder...and then the story turns out to be ABSOLUTELY AWESOME?
HIS HOTNESS still makes me grin like a demented person.....

I'm curious. And a bit confused about the description. First, I have to know what kind of role that this 'Noodles' will play in the drama actually. I heard that this drama is going to be 20 episodes long, the first shoot will begin in September. Well, well.. SBS really has so many interesting dramas lately....

I had the same thought, too, when I first heard about Athena. It took watching the first episode tp realize writing mattered as well.
So now I'm more excited over the: Jung Woo Sung+Han Ji Min+Noh Hee Kyung = what could go wrong? Unless I just jinxed it by saying that . . .

I hope it's not love rivals, although "Noodles" vs. Han Ji-Min does give new meaning to the phrase "I don't see you as a man". (Love Kim Bum, thought he acquitted himself with honor in WWSWTM, would snog him, but he looks so young.)

Hee hee hoo hoo haa haa! Ha!
OK, maybe I'm not that overjoyed. But I like Han Ji-min, she's nothing phenomenal but has a likable enough, girl-next-door charm that I'm sure will fit a hopefully subdued melodrama tone.
I think Han Ji-min's strength probably lies more in complementing her male lead, and yet I truthfully don't think her and Jung Woo-sung are so well suited. Let's see anyways.
B..b...b..but Kim Beom?

"Confused" seems to be a popular trend. :)
But didn't I see an article with photos (here?)
a while back, of Kim Bum with very long hair,
suitable for that snappy-looking men's 16th
century hair style, of top-knot-ponytail-with
-headband, because he was about to join
the cast of some historical drama?
Or is this another "senior moment" for me? :)

Nope you are (unfortunately, really hate hair that long on guys) correct and there was a rumor that he was going to be in Warrior Baek Dong-soo (ie a sanguk) however he wasn't in the end.
I wonder if he has to cut his hair short in this one.... I hope so... or actually it could be awesome long if the Character suits it...
But still... YAY Kim Bum is in a drama again!!!

Kim Bum has his dimples to contend with, but it's possible he can convince us he's a man with some good acting. Kim Soo Hyun naturally looks like he's 15, as does Yoo Ah In, but I think they both manage to seem manly through charisma and a commitment to their roles. Mind you, those two have been playing characters younger than Kim Bum in tWWSWtM, and KB still feels younger, so maybe it's a lost case.
I don't care though! I <3 him and I will love him in this drama even if it is a terrible casting choice, and even if the premise turns out to be as stupid as it sounds.
I'm excited for this fall/winter; it seems like there are lots of good dramas on the way ^__^

This cast is one of the most puzzling casts ever for a drama... Individually, all the actors are attractive, but together? I need to see this to see how the chemistry is amongst the actors. I also don't really understand the plot either. I have never watched a Noh Hee Kyung drama (yes, the horror!), but her dramas have always come out when I wasn't in the mood for them. LOL I swear I'll get around to watching them, but my backlog of dramas is oh-so-long...
