First look at upcoming sitcom High Kick 3
by javabeans
First stills are out for the hilariously titled third season of the High Kick family sitcom series, High Kick 3: Counterattack of the Short Legs.
PD Kim Byung-wook, the director behind the helm for all three seasons, explained the name as a sort of “losers fight back” motif; a high kick is more effective with long legs, so those with short legs are disadvantaged from the start. With the original series titled Unstoppable High Kick and the sequel named High Kick Through the Roof, I suppose you could say this one’s more like a Stoppable High Kick, har har. What, was High Kick That Doesn’t Quite Reach The Ceiling already taken?
The series began filming on August 17 at a hotel in Seoul, and most of the stills below feature the couple at the heart of the family, Ahn Nae-sang (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Three Brothers) and Yoon Yoo-sun (My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho, The Duo), who play husband and wife in the middle generation. His business goes bankrupt and they find themselves moving in with her brother, which naturally causes conflict. In the first few stills, Ahn Nae-sang barges into the ladies’ massage area at a hotel, presumably to retrieve the wife.
Park Ha-sun (Dong Yi), meanwhile, plays a language teacher who teaches at the same school with Yoon Yoo-sun’s younger brother, Seo Ji-seok (Manny). (You can refer to this handy post for the full cast.)
I really enjoyed Unstoppable High Kick although admittedly the production values, acting levels, and directing are all rather flawed. But the charm of the cast and their genuine rapport buoyed the stories, and kept me hooked. (When will Korea pour the attention and money into sitcoms that they lavish on their big drama spectacles? It’s a missed opportunity, I tell ya.) I wasn’t grabbed by Season 2, but perhaps 3 will bring back some of the adorable interactions I loved about the first series.
With the first two series doing so well in the ratings and attracting such overwhelming attention, expectations are certainly high that this one will do the same. We’ll see in another month; High Kick 3 premieres on September 19.

Does this one have the same writer as Season 2? Gosh, that ending killed it for me...:<

I'm still sore on that ending too.
Actually the one who enforced that godawful ending seems to be the PD, whereas writer wanted something more...in tune with the rest of the series.

I know! I don't know what had gotten into the writer. The ending did not fit a sitcom at all.

actually it was the crazy PD who kept insisting that he wanted that ending.
don't blame the poor writer, he originally had a happy ending planned.

I'm looking forward to this. I liked Unstoppable High Kick but found High Kick Through the Roof a bit boring so I was a little iffy about this but then I found out Yoon Kye Sang had a role and I was intrigued (why would an already famous actor sign on to do a daily sitcom?). I've seen some works from the older cast members and think they're solid, the middle cast has a couple strong actors as well (although I find a few of these cast member's acting to be questionable) and I can't say much for the younger cast except for Lee Jongsuk in the little bits he had in Secret Garden which I thought were charming and Kim Jiwon who was very promising in the film Romantic Heaven, not perfect, but this girl has got a lot of potential and I can totally see her becoming a huge star.
PS - I heard they filmed in New Zealand, I wonder what that was about.

Looking forward to this! :) I really enjoyed "Unstoppable High Kick" but I didn't appreciate "High Kick Through the Roof" that much. Idk, maybe I just found the casting for the former better. I just hope that this one will end in a positive light. The first two (esp the second) ended on a depressing note.

I LOVED High Kick 1 and I honestly found the tragic ending to the bromance more heart-wrenching than the surprise ending for HK2. The emotions, KHS running after his friend leaving on the airplane makes me sad just thinking about it.
That said, it's always been a kind of surprise that YKS is in this [HK3] but I totally excited :D
I just hope that they dont end it in a bittersweet way again. I dont think I can take it. :(

Is it weird that I'm totally having a mini crush on ANS? Cause I am. Age gap and all, I am smitten.
Oh and YKS is in it, sweet!

I'm about to watch Season 1 and truthfully, I really like Season 2 so much (minus the ending) that I don't know if Season 1 can do better. Haha! I really like the Season 2 cast.. So I hope Season1 is really as good as these people say it is. I'd be depressed if not.. :(

This is the best cast out of the 3 seasons. But High Kick can't not be High Kick if there is no Lee Soon Jae grandpa. I'm very looking forward to it, though.

I liked Unstoppable High Kick so much. Although I did wish Season 2 would continue the story line between Jung Il Woo (Lee Min Ho) and his teacher Suh Min Jung. Didn't watch High Kick Through the Roof. I'm looking forward to this series.
I've watched a lot of dramas but not familiar with many comedy series. Can anyone recommend some more?

I caught an episode of the first season on TV when the acupuncture grandpa was forced to do acupuncture on a gang boss under the idea that he was the best around. I was like, "What?! A Korean show playing on my very own American TV ?! And don't even have the Korean channels?! My prayers have been answered!" Well, I never got around to watching the other episodes I DVRed :(. Maybe I'll be more into this season.

You mean to tell me that they kept the same PD as HK2? Then there is no way I am getting anywhere near it. That stupid ending ruined me from ever watching HighKick...ever ever ever again. You could put all my favorite male leads, make it a no shirt all shower scene plot and I still wouldn't watch it.
