An acting family emerges with the “Ron Sisters”
by javabeans
Holy crap, there are THREE of them? Korea’s well on its way to establishing its own acting family dynasty with these three youngsters. And here I thought 11-year-old Kim Sae-ron was a marvel all on her own, but it turns out she has two younger sisters with equally big acting aspirations.
When it was just Sae-ron, she was most often associated with Won Bin, having starred with him in Ajusshi (The Man From Nowhere) (not to mention popping up with him at various awards ceremonies last year, decked out in all her awesome ensembles). She’s quickly made a name for herself acting alongside other big names like Kim Seung-woo and was a highlight of the weekend drama Can You Hear My Heart?
Then her younger sister Kim Ye-ron, age 7, took a role alongside Park Min-young in the horror flick Cat: Two Eyes That See Death, and the press started calling them the Korean Fanning sisters. Now there are three in the spotlight with middle sister Ah-ron about to debut, and the press has given them their own nickname: the “Ron Sisters,” per the common character in each of their names.
Youngest Ye-ron seems to be on her way to following in Sae-ron’s footsteps as a child actress to watch out for, with her performance in Cat: Two Eyes That See Death earning her praise for her innate acting ability. Ah-ron will be making her screen debut alongside unni Sae-ron in the upcoming film Bobby, which stars Lee Chun-hee as a boorish adoption broker who tries to adopt his niece out to the States.
The three sisters were featured in a recent Movieweek spread, and the photographer in charge of the shoot, Park Eun-jin, said of maknae Ye-ron, “When she’s walking around the set, she just looks like a cute child, but out of her expressionless face overflows this keen sensitivity. It’s like seeing Natalie Portman when she was a child.”
Renowned photographer Lee Jeon-ho also said, “Ye-ron is very certain in her character analysis, and understands so quickly that I was startled. If I just say, ‘Let’s try an expressionless shot,’ she knows how to take that even further and create more on her own.”
Cat: The Two Eyes That See Death was released in theaters in July, just about the time that Can You See My Heart? wrapped up its three-month run on MBC. Bobby has not yet begun filming, and aims for a 2012 release.

Wow. They should be called "Triple Threat Sisters" - let's hope that they take after the normal Fanning sisters and not the McCauley's dysfunctional mess.

There's quite an uproar over at the SpyMW set. The leading lady is M.I.A., apparently refusing to show up on set, leading to speculation that it's diva behavior/management stand-offs. All production has ground to a halt. Eeep!

Aye Aye to hoping they turn out to be more like the Fannings.
As for Spy MW, from what I've heard (meaning I haven't read the actual press), it may not be diva behavior. Apparently, her contract calls for a 5-day shoot M-F, going beyond no later than midnight each day. Instead, they've been going til 5am, asking her to return at 7:30am, and so on. So, in that light, the live-shoot production has been in flagrant violation of the contract. And, let's admit it, the live-shoot system has got to end. Not only is it inhumane, it's usually an indicator of major production problems. Meaning, not the cast but the producer, director, and script writer are no longer seeing eye to eye as the show finds itself with low ratings.
I am loath to put the blame for this at Han Ye Seul's feet. It's a losing proposition for her no matter what since even if she were to win concession from the producers, she will likely find herself blacklisted since whatever solution will set a precedent with industry-wide consequences. Tackling the entire industry, it's a rather tall order for an actress of her standing.
I personally love her and hope to see her come out unscathed, but I fear that's not likely.

@Anais - No, they went til 5 am that time because she was late earlier that day. Then the next day, she just didn't show up for 9 hours while everyone else got there at 7:30.
Han Ye Seul is known for her antics in Korea. There have been many incidences and stories about her rude behavior toward staff and fellow artists, etc. I'm pretty sure they have a basis in the truth, even if some could possible be exaggerated. She is known for being a biyotch in the industry.
Even if the live-shoot process sucks, you don't just call your boss and say "I'm not coming" because you are tired. The staff was up filming with her all night and they still managed to show up. Plus the other actors also showed up on time. It's not like she's the only one who is tired and has a hard schedule here. Why can other people do it? Is she somehow exempt because she's more famous?
If she was legitimately ill, why didn't she at least go to the hospital. Hell, if she's faking it (which I believe) why wouldn't she have her manager put her into a hospital to wait it out so at least they could cancel the shoots for a while?
I mean Hong Soo Hyun is continuing with broken ribs. She can't manage to get to work?
I don't find any reasonable excuse here at all.

that staff doesn't have to look pretty on screen while delivering perfect lines - if she telephones the lines then we would tell that she is a bad actress, or better they would shoot a million of doubles just because she can't think or remember the lines
Hong Soo Hyun isn't the main lead, so she doesn't have to shoot 90% of scenes for 2 episodes in a week
while HYS has a back up in her contract - errrm the ppl talking behind her back or in front of her- I bet she feels the pressure - specially in Korea - where at this moment I think she will be black listed even though in my point of view the things got out of PD's hand since long time ago
if she would be totally irresponsible then at 5PM each day would say "BYEEE see u tomorrow at 9 AM" In this way some producers would think twice before going live shooting

besides the inside problems of SMW where they try to make her the scapegoat (from my point of view they already did see commenters on allkpop and koala ) , I believe that SidusHQ - her agency- should stand out for their actress and not leave her pray for the wolves
another big problem of the drama: everyone has like max 15 mins/ episodes except Eric who has almost 30 min, she is almost in every scene: like 90% of the episode, so here we go with her hell schedule
indeed live shooting dramas should end their Era: kproducers please start to shoot at least 8 episodes ahead and after that go on air
on the other hand the system is at fault: everyone stands by until the lights, sound and decor is available and after that they can shoot- so preparations could eat most of the time but in the same time goodbye sleep and sleep privation = torture

How can you defend her?
How are the making her the scapegoat?
SIDUS made a small excuse "she's sick"
But they agree with their claims.
She called them directly and said she wasn't going to come. How is that professional?

August 14, 2011 at 3:22 PM
how is that professional to sign a contract with an actress and tell her that she will film 5 days a week and after that to keep her on set 46 hours in 2 days with 2 hours break? when the road home is at least half an hour?
how is professional when they deliver the scripts on Thursday while the filming must end until Monday?
how is professional to make scenes only with her when the system in klala land is that usually the main lead doesn't have more than 40 mins/ episode while she is in 60 mins from 70 mins?( remember they promised at the beginning that they will solve the schedule) isn't impossible to avoid scenes with her - they have subplots that they forgot about them ( the ancient book - in some episodes is on in other is off, the SoKor spies - sometimes they have scenes, sometimes they aren't - they just forgot about the story - ppl if u don't use them at least kill them, they start threads that don't have beginning nor end etc).... but hell yesss let's keep MW in every scene possible
I know that usually for the main lead it ends in the hospital with IVs, but this time is too much even for klala land - 2 hours break - like ppl go take a shower and come back- u know in 48 hours some ppl need sleep
I don't get the PD's scheme - ok he is the boss, but while she announced him that she won't come - why to expect a woman who won't come? why did he keep the whole crew on set? when he could:
1. film the other scenes (which other scenes coz all of them have HMW??),
2. talk to her management and ask for a precise schedule to start the shootings - I bet after low ratings he started yelling at her
She and her management had a choice
1 to risk an accident like everyone else( I already know that Yoo Seung Ho, Park Shin Hye and HSH shoot with broken bones)
2 to try to stop them on killing her ( they try this but without success)
Yoo Seung Ho started in this industry like the 3 princesses above: cuter than a basket full of kittens but with skipped classes, without a childhood and with some broken bones and maybe ( I don't think it is his case) some plastic surgeries to appeal more to the public
Please believe me when I tell that the norm is not more than 40 min for a main lead in a kdrama episode... while the other ppl can have up to 25 min/episode and this time SMW is overboarding with everything including the chaos on set

There's a follow-up news release over at AllPop - this one states that it is her health (read: lack of sleep) and her contract is being violated by this ridiculous "live-shoot" schedule - girl is getting maybe 2 hours sleep? A lot of people are screaming that all the production is suffering, from actors to go-fers and that she should just put up and shut up and get back to work.
This live-shoot method is going to wind up killing someone - apparently the management companies need a high-profile actor to just drop dead on set. Maybe then this archaic method of filming will undergo a total revamp.
Frankly, I hope she barricades herself into her trailer and logs herself 20 hours of sleep!
You go, girl!

The only thing I can fault her for is believing naively that K-ent would take the contract provisions at face value and think she wouldn't be shamed into going far beyond the terms of her contract. The industry (and by extension, the whole culture) should be ashamed that its contracts, never mind its word, means apparently nada.
As for that day in question, again from what I've heard (that's my qualifier here, heh), she'd given prior notice to the production that she wouldn't be available.
I don't know. I wonder what all the naysayers would say if - purely hypothetical scenario here - she were to end up somehow seriously debilitated or dead.
Diva or not, I'm with Han Ye Seul on this one on principle. The system really must change.

August 14, 2011 at 4:21 PM
When the stuff about SMW came up...I was kinda on her side saying that there must have been a reason for her not showing up...but then I saw allot of people say that she is originally very rude. In all honesty I think both parties are at blame, Han Ye Seul is at blame because she wasn't very professional about it...and she can't just decide to not show up at a shoot, apparently they said she did miss a shoot on Aug 12.
I also think that the other party is at blame because of the fact of the live shooting...and in all honesty i can't figure out why they would publicize her not showing up. They def made her a scapegoat, maybe to even get more ratings...? and I agree that Ye Seul is in like 90% of the episode...she's in every scene seriously.
But in the end she is also a different person than others...she doesn't put herself at risk like some of these actresses (Park Shin Hye) who after getting in accidents still decide to come at set, and i don't think that she isn't hardworking...because in all her other dramas/films there was never news about her skipping shoots, i just think that she's someone who knows what she wants and how to get it....and knows how to speak up for herself. That's how I see it. But in this industry...being someone of that persona make you a B-I-T-C-H.
I just think in the end....there is always something going on behind the scenes that we won't know.

@Leona -
Well, it's not like someone held a knife to her throat to make her sign it. She knew what she was signing up for. I understand that it's a tough schedule. I'm not saying I agree with live-shoot, but she agreed to that.
My problem with what she did is how she handled it.
She didn't enter a hospital to get treatment.
She was late over and over again and left early without word.
She made them wait 9 hours before she showed up.
She has thrown fits before. My close friend's mother works in the industry and has told me this. How is the production company to know whether or not it's simply a fit or if she's serious?
She basically screwed over the entire production which will lose tons of money which causes those staffs and actors who need the money for their families to lose out.
What are they supposed to do, just go home and forget about it? How do you know they didn't film those scenes and have time left over? As for her screen time, did you actually watch every episode and time how much she was on screen?
They weren't the ones who signed a contract to accept that behavior.
Her "management" didn't do anything. She personally phoned them saying she wouldn't show up anymore.
Her "management" is saying health reasons because they don't want to make her look bad.
If she was really unhealthy, why wouldn't her management have told them that she was previously? Why would she wait til AFTER the reports came out to report that she wasn't doing well?
And risk an accident? How is that going to be affected in anyway? They can find a driver almost anywhere in Seoul. It's just a phone call away.
As for injury or needing an IV or being overtired, why didn't she enter a hospital to get treatment? Does that really sound like someone who cares so much about her health?
People talk about them "dying", but who's fault is that. Even if they aren't filming, their schedule would be booked full of other schedules anyway because they want to make money. Again, she signed the contracts, I don't feel sorry for her.

August 14, 2011 at 4:56 PM
@SM - So treating your staff rudely? Constantly sending people on errands? Constantly talking down to people? Getting angry over small things and blowing them out of proportion? Talking disrespectfully to elders? Acting like the world revolves around you?
That's not rude? That's just being "different"?
S.M
August 14, 2011 at 5:22 PM
@ Laeha
can you please tell me when she did all of those......like sending her staff off for errands, being rude to elders, and her constantly talking down people? I'm actually just curious...because I've been reading articles about her...and haven't read she did anything like that on set o.O.
And I said it before that it was very unprofessional of her to just leave and do what she want's....but that's how i see it....only being unprofessional. I don't know about rude. That's what I meant when I said she handles things in her own way. Unlike others, who can be seen as professional, like Park Shin Hye, who went to work even after being in an accident.

Saddens me that actresses have to conform themselves to this beauty standard in the name of art. Where's the individuality that one would stand out in moulding oneself with the help of plastic? Esp. as actresses age it tends to become apparent with the skin sagging (that happens w/ aging). I remember watching "Royal Family" (I may be wrong abt this) and couldn't help but think plastic when the main lead appeared onscreen. Also, the actress special of 1N2D made this fact quite apparent!!

I always think that actors who lack talent go for plastic surgery, then they would atleast look pretty. But the realy talented actors/actresses don't need plastic surgery or this pure image where they pretent they never date.
So the ron-sisters definetly don't need plastic surgery, they are mighty talented and even naturally good looking. They really are a rare find in K-ent land.

Kawaii x3. *^_^* I loved Sae-ron in CYHMH and Ajusshi and it'd be great to see the other two. It'd be so awesome if they were all on screen together. XD

Sae-ron is the only one I've seen, and she has a great future ahead of her. I hope she continues along the route of an actress and continue to hone her skills. As for the two sisters, if they're as good as Sae-ron... I say BRING IT! I'm curious about the Ron sisters, and their place in the acting world in the future :) Good luck to them!

The are so cute! And they are going to be real beauties when they are all grown up. I can see it in their little expressive faces.
Wow! I give kudos to their parents. Three girls. I come from a family of 5 where 4/5 were girls. We fought like crazy. Having all three in the same business must be difficult to handle. Three schedules, typical sibling rivalry, fame and paparazzi (sp?), along with just dealing with females in general who are very much more emotional and vocal than little boys.

The first thing I thought of when I read the title of the post is Ron Weasley. OMG.
First of all, these three are posing with "blank" faces but their eyes are lighting up so brightly! Some adult actors have to learn from them. They are a natural. Are their parents people of the industry or something? Because I don't think random parents will put their kids up in this kind of industry just for fun.
And... I think javabeans will love this, does that mean we get to see 3 tiny fashionistas on red carpets anytime soon? That'll be so awesome! Yay! And I do think Sae-ron dresses better than some adult actors out there. K-actors better watch out. I wish there was a Korean Fashion Police of something. I'd love to see it. But then again knowing how much some people can't take judgement then maybe not.

A very interesting family. They may become the Korean equivalent of the "Great Barrymores".
Out of the three girls, the youngest seem to have the oldest 'soul'. She may eclipse her older siblings.
Great photos. Even better than many of the adult photo shoots.
