Stills released from You’re My Pet

Finally! Here’s our first look at stills from the set of the highly anticipated romantic comedy film You’re My Pet, starring Jang Geun-seok and Kim Haneul, due out later this year. I thought they were never going to make this movie. Seriously, it’s been eons since the project was announced, then halted, then restarted, but now we finally have proof — they’re making the movie, and it looks adorable.

Kim Haneul stars as a career woman who is awesome at all things but love, and decides on a rather unconventional tactic of getting a pet. Because yunno, why not? Jang Geun-seok plays a younger ballet dancer who dreams of making it big as a musical actor and choreographer. I’m not gonna lie — the setup still makes no sense to me, not being familiar with the original source material (a Japanese manga), but it sounds adorably quirky and cute.

Well apparently the mail-order-pet thing is real, because there’s Jang Geun-seok in a box, sitting on her doorstep. Like a little puppy. Either that or he’s got a homeless backstory or some bizarre drinking habit.

Judging from the stills, the film’s basically going to be buckets of cute. I mean, you’ve got a puppy in a box on a rainy day… how’re you going to turn that away? I can just hear him whimpering now…

Oh, and girlfriday, I think you're right about the homeless backstory :)

I love that it looks like he's assaulting her (cutely) in one of the pics.

I don't think that in the Jdrama he was homeless but he escaped from home I think ? Because they won't let him do what he want to do? I'm not sure. The Jdrama was a bit strange on that part too. (and usually Jdramas are more "realistic" than kdramas, so I wonder what could happen here! XD)
I want a pet like that. Where can I buy one?

The male character had a conflict with his mother who was a great ballet dancer, world renown. He was trained as a ballet dancer but realize he was never going to be tall enough to be a lead dancer so he was transitioning to modern dance, which his mother aggressive against so he couldn't/wouldn't go home and had a been staying with an older guy who wanted him to pay for the favor with his body. (if I remember correctly)

Yeah, I loved Kimi wa Pet b/c it was more about people learning to connect to people. The ballet dancer (MatsuJun) got beat up from some bad guys and I think he ended up in the box to either hide from them or he was put there by the bad guys (I think the former one is more likely).

Anyhoo, after the career girl takes him in, she tries to make him leave after he's healed but since he stated he had nowhere to go so would like to stay with her, the girl who was going through some bad times recalling they only creature that comforted her was her dog, said he can stay if he'd be her pet. So it sort of makes sense the arrangement...

Well I found it totally endearing the whole concept of the Jdrama - there's so much more in the subtext that going on that it's up there with "Little Prince" story for me.

I don't know who the Korean version will do it but I actually hoped they would try to depart a little from it (times have changed a bit since the jdrama aired back in 2003), for one thing, wished they wouldn't try to style JGS's hair like from the original. Still...looking forward to this movie! (Though I think Soo Ae would have been a better fit than Kim Ha Neul.)

Haha! That box was too small for him, so they extended it at the bottom. Couldn't they find a bigger box to put him in? Generic shipping boxes comes in so many sizes. Maybe the prop assistant underestimated JGS small frame isn't so small after all. Pahehe~

OMG totaleee, i dint likethe ending . the story was o full of potential and SEXUAL TENSION, which we all totally felt but the movie makers killed it by having her completely oblivious to it. grrr, the ending was TOO open, is her being able to call him by his real name and not his PET name (momo) only 1 times out of eight sposed to console us? reassure us that ONE DAY they will DO IT? seriously, its kinda why i wasnt all that excited bout the remake but lookin at the stills...CMON OTS JANG GEUN SUK! and kim haneul, whom i never hearf of before 1 nights 2 days, (lol) but still, i liked her loads.:) HOPE THE MOVIE COMES OUT IN DVD SOON SO I CAN DOWNLOAD IT!!! hehe, go piracy...sorry, no offense, People Who Have Access To Korean Stuff Or Can Afford To Pay For All Their Entertainment.

Hope this can do the same, though I must say, it has some pretty awesome shoes to fill.

I certainly wouldn't mind if it does, but Jang Geun Suk has quite the challenge ahead then. I mean, Matsumoto Jun is quite a hard act to follow. I may be one of the seemingly few who thinks he's fugly, but dang he was good in the J-dorama version. So..hawt....
Then again, it's Jang Geun Suk, so maybe it won't be such a tough challenge after all for him.

Agreed. I don't find Jun very attractive, but he really pulls off the wounded soul thing well.
I think the Korean version will be cuter, but less conflicted than the Japanese version. There was something truly fragile about Jun in that one, and I don't know if JGS can pull off fragile, so I think they'll definitely have to go the cute route, which he does effortlessly. <3

Haven't read the manga yet, but in the Japanese drama, Jang Geun-seok's character was homeless. He had been beaten up and was hiding in the box when the woman found him. Since all that happens in the first ep, I don't think I'm spoiling anything for those who haven't seen the Jdrama.

Dunno if the Kmovie will follow the same premise. JGS doesn't look too beat up in these pictures :)

I enjoyed the Jdrama. Matsumoto Jun did a great job, in my opinion. Also, it was the first Jdrama I saw with "real" kissing. Not the greatest kissing, by any means! Kdramas have most Jdramas beat by a LOOOOOONG shot. But still, I gaped in shock when there was actually open-mouth kissing - more than once!!

Required fields are marked *

Not to mention the fact that in the jdrama version, she definitely has a sexual relationship with her boyfriend... and one develops with her so-called pet. Given how much kdramas seem to hyperventilate over the notion of an unmarried man & woman living together, could this be why they chose to do a movie, instead? Korean movies seem to spend far less time stressing over adult women with sex lives -- and the female protagonist in Kimi wa Petto not only has a career, but a sex life, and is unapologetic about both. (For all the show's other flaws, this was one thing I really liked.)

Required fields are marked *

I know right. And I like how the manga/drama addressed all the pertinent issues in a normal working woman's life albeit in a twisted way. Heck, I wouldn't mind finding a "pet" like that. At all. I don't see them going much the same way as the drama honestly. Because one of the stills I saw was Jang Geun Suk's character holding Kim Ha Neul's character as they lay in a park and that went pretty much out of character. At least to me. Because in the manga/drama, there's always the divide between the "master" and the "pet." The pet will be patted but he'll never be in the dominant position that is suggested by the still. I'm probably over analyzing, heh, but I feel as though they won't strip Momo of all of his manliness(?) in the Kversion. Which is a shame.

Required fields are marked *

In the manga, Momo would be affectionate and forward when she couldn't find out. And when she was at her weakest, that's when she let him be the Man. As the manga went on, this dynamic grew more and more into a traditional dominant male lead. That's the only thing I didn't like about it.

Love Haneul's shoes! Where can I get those? But boy, my feet already hurt just from looking. Men must've invented heels to torture women. Was iffy at first about Haneul getting this role but thought that she couldn't be any worse than the Japanese actress (I didn't like her). However after watching her in 1N2D, I've changed my mind. She's so purty, and the legs are killer!

I know it has been mentioned numerous times already, but. The HAIR. Must. Go. Already. Everything's wrong: the style, the color, the cut, the partition. I want a Baby and Me haircut or even a Beethoven Virus cut.

I HATED the J-drama. What I thought was going to be a cutesy, fluffy kind of drama took a left turn into Bizzarroville
by the end of ep.1 - I stuck with it until 1/2 way through 4 before I gave up. She wanted a dog, and he gave her one. Honestly, I was waiting for him to have an accident on her rug and her smacking him with a rolled-up newspaper. Totally weird - eating out of a dish on the floor, her giving him baths, introducing him to her friends as her pet. Crazy.
And, what I got from the Jdrama is that the leading lady's problems involving her love life arose because she was too tall? for most men and they were threatened by this aspect? Wacky-doodles, bar none.

I just hope that KHN & lanky-locks can pull this one off. :)

I think you should give the manga a try. It's the original one (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=596) & very well written.
And her problem with love wasn't just because she's tall but because she's very smart, successful, tall, good-looking & also good at martial art ---> enough to keep most men away. :)

I don't know about the movie... Kimi wa Petto was one of the first dramas that I watched and I loved it (or was it Matsu that I loved? lol) Then again I'm kinda skeptical about anything that's Jdrama to Kdrama thing.

All 6 of my roommates disagree with me on this, but I like the Japanese version of BoF waaaaaaaaay better than I like the Korean one. The cinematography was awesome, but the original manga's plot line got shot and the pacing at times made growing grass seem more interesting.

I'm really skeptical about "You're My Pet." Or maybe it's JGS that I'm not too thrilled about (gahhhh, cut your hair!).

0

Required fields are marked *

Could not agree with you more !!! about KwP and BoF.

==================================
The J version of BoF was better (maybe because it was more concise and not draggy like the K version got). I didn't like the hero or heroine at first, but they won me over. The K version was a little lackluster in characters.

LMH did do a good job though, just thought MatsuJun was better. I really hated him at the beginning, but he turned out nicer, dumber, more dramatic and just hilarious.

==========back to the point=============

JGS does need a new do, but I loved Kimi wa Petto so much that I am gonna look for this movie anyway.

Required fields are marked *

I'm actually really nervous about this one. About the only thing I like MatsuJun in is Kimi wa Petto as Momo. He was just perfect for that role as a cute, little, disheveled, puppy-like boy. That was one time that his short stature and baby looks worked out for him. Sukkie on the other hand seems like he might be too much for this role: too handsome, too tall, too coiffed, too (don't laugh but I think that some who have seen his previous looks in things like Itaewon, The Longest 24 Months and Beethoven's Virus, would understand me a bit but) masculine even. Still, it might be okay if Kim Ha Neul wore somehow even more of a, as Diane put it "chain-smoking badass career woman" with even more height and looks and sophistication. However, even with five? inch heels she's barely the same height, forget taller than sukkie. True, this woman is pretty but, and you can call me picky, her face is too round and smiley (at least in these stills). She doesn't seem to exude that edgy determination that strong, beautiful woman defy the glass ceiling with. So, seeing the same thing that Chintu and Starstuck saw, I'm scared to watch this. Even knowing that they are probably gonna have to take this in a slightly different direction, I'm worried about how they are going to make this work. Still, it can't be worse than Do Re Mi.

I recently watched Kimi wa Petto in anticipation of You're My Pet, and was so pleasantly surprised! Granted, the premise is so out there, and I was weirded out initially, but then I got hooked.

Kimi wa Petto was my first Jdorama, and thus my first time seeing Matsumoto Jun. He was the perfect Momo, and the actress, Koyuki did a phenomenal job as Sumire-chan.

I ended up crushing on Matsumoto Jun (surprising because I didn't find him attractive at all until the second episode), so I attempted watching the original Japanese BOF, Hana Yori Dango, but didn't like it too much. So I realized that my crush was actually on Momo, and not Matsumoto Jun. Heh.

I love KHN and JGS, but think it doubtful that they can replicate the intricate relationship and absolute perfect casting of Momo and Sumire-chan of the Jdorama, in a movie.

I'm envious of KHN's legs. Though if she still religiously works out 3 hrs daily, something she mentioned in an interview way back, then I'm not surprised.

I honestly do not think this is gonna translate well. The random japanese quirks is what makes the manga and jdrama work. Also it wasnt just light and fluffy it delved into sex, work, dreams and intimidating possible partners.

i have no expectations for this korean remake at this point.

i didn't watch the jdrama... the stills look good. Kim Ha Neul is gorgeous... and JGS---> what's with his hair? i think he's gone long haired for too long. i want to cut his wavy locks.

JGS once said he has to keep his long hair to fit the character. I 'm not sure when he will cut it but I'm sure he will if the role in the future requires him to.

There's a scene in the manga where the character cuts his hair, so you can always hope!

Wooot Wooooot!!!! =D =D JANG GEUN SEOK!!!

Finally! Ah, I remember that this movie had been delayed last year (I think so) but it's starting right now! =D I can't wait for this, of course!

Woooaaahhh.........Kim Haneul look soooo beautiful & she wore like that and I assume that these young women should be jealous of her beautiful legs, heh. ^.^ I am fan of JGS since I first watched him in that movie "Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do" but he was soooo cute & easy to make me so fall in love!

Ahhh......Aigoo, aigoo.......I am bit of speechless that I just read all of (everybody's) comments because they are very complained about Jang Geun Seok's hair at mostly, lolz. Well.......He's still handsome, yups. ^__^

Momo in a box! That alone has me excited. i'm not too afraid of how the main plot will change, as it's a movie so there's room for them to include some of the more interesting themes in the Japanese versions. however, there's a good chance they'll take it in a different, but interesting direction. so i'm still hopeful this will be good. if nothing else, i'll watch it for Jang Geun-Seok - i think he'll bring some complexity to Momo's character, which could be great.

Ooh, that is so true!

Momo has this definite suppressed angst that is well-hidden in both the manga and the J-drama, but Geun-Seok-ssi could totally make that more transparent.

kimi wa petto is a manga painful to read. i didn't finish the 80-something-chapter-manga because the schemer nurse/whore (the antagonist) was too much to bear. :( so sad. :(

in the manga, Sumire is the heroine( she'll be KH). After her fiancé leaves her for his mistress and Sumire is demoted at work, she stumbles across a young injured homeless man in a box outside her condominium. She takes him in and becomes attached to him. As a joke, she says she wants to keep him as a pet. To her surprise, the young man agrees. She names him Momo (he'll be JGS), after her beloved dog from childhood.

it's a really fun story, and gets a little too serious when it reaches the Hong Kong arc

Please stop complaining about JKS's hair, he did say that he needs to keep it for his roles, he will cut it for sure if the role in the future requires him to, so please leave his hair alone.

i don't know why people keep complaining about JGS long hair, i like it on him. It fits him perfectly. It does make him a bit like a girl, but he's cute like that....

hmmm I am fearing another 70% hype and 30 % substance one, like Lie to ME, but like Lie to ME with the lead, if can not fail..lol not matter how bad..or good it maybe. the guy just got too many fan girls who care nothing of how well acted or written it maybe, long as they can see him on screen that all they need.

Yeah, I'm not liking the white shorts with white top on a rainy day 0.o but ya gotta admit Kim Haneul looks very pretty. Her legs! Her hair! Remember when she had this shorter wavy hairstyle before? Ugh, so freakin ugly. Lovin' the longer hair much better ;)
