Park Shi-yeon returns to film as a femme fatale

Actress Park Shi-yeon (Coffee House) will be making her big screen comeback early next year opposite Park Hee-soon (A Barefoot Dream) in a thriller sex comedy (How’s that for a genre mashup?) called Scent of a Woman. Yeah, someone should tell them there’s a drama around with the same name. Wouldn’t that be your first order of business? Emergency title brainstorm meeting?
Park Shi-yeon will be starring as a femme fatale in the film described as a “sexual comedy with thriller elements.” I don’t know what that means, but I just hope it’s not a sign of an identity crisis. PD Kim Hyung-joon who directed the thriller No Mercy will be at the helm. There’s not too much detail about the story, but Park Hee-soon will play a detective who comes across Park Shi-yeon during an investigation, only he somehow ends up the prime suspect because of her. His underling detective, played by Joo Sang-wook (Thorn Birds, pictured below), will end up chasing him in turn.
So love triangle with two detectives and one femme fatale? That’s not an unfamiliar setup, but I’m more intrigued by the so-called thriller-sex-comedy angle. Especially because I’d be uninterested if Park Shi-yeon were playing a straight-up femme fatale, which she’s done before. But I like her much better as a rom-com actress, because she has a naturally bubbly personality that comes across much better onscreen. So if they actually pull this off as a laugh-out-loud comedy, then I’m down.
Scent of a Woman starts shooting in late August, and plans for an early 2012 premiere.

tbh I'm kinda glad she wasn't making a come back in another drama. Coffee House didn't really work for her, imo.

I watch it regardless if I don't like someone because I think they may prove me wrong. Plus never said I don't like her. Just meant that character didn't fit her.

sort of agree. Didn't love her in coffee house (liked Ham Eun Jung's character much more) but I do think she improved much since my girl days.
much more excited bout the men, though. loved joo sang-wook since giant!

Most pp really turned around and like/ love her after that show ( I had seen her but never paid attention to her. CH made me a big fan of hers)

You've got to be kidding, not improved since My Girl days? lols. SOAM and CH were great testaments to her acting improvement.
Personally, I think CH was a breakthrough role. A lot of people didn't think sexy, femme fatale PSY could do comedy. But I think she was simply delightful in a comedic role. And her chemistry with KJH was sizzling. I'm excited about her taking on another witty and entertaining role.

interesting... i thought that character was perfect for her. as jb said, she's awesome as a romcom actress. in my opinion, coffee house was the best role i've seen her in so far.

The name change will happen soon enough- it will probably end up as one publicity stunt more (like "vote for you fav. name for ___drama" ).
I like Park Shi-yeon, she iss one of those actresses you actually remember...
And in Coffee House she was good, made her character believable ,Ham Eun Jung’s character was border-line "Go Mi Nam" at times...

Scent of a woma! Really??! no creative juices flowing through the head of those writers???.....so now one or the other may (or may not) end up filing lawsuits and we'll be playin"What cam first, the drama or the movie?" also what is with the genre mashup--thriller-sex comedy??
aside from this though, the plot sounds intriguing and the cast seems talented..LOVE Park Hee Soon..also like PSY and JSW..hopefully movie also delivers

I'm sure they'll change the name again before the movie hits the theaters. Probably multiple times. :-)
And yay, at last, a new project for the lovely, talented Park Shi-yeon! I loved her in Coffee House, and have been hoping to see her again in something that fits her as well as that drama did. (I'd seen her before and never even noticed her. I think roles with a lighter side work well for her - though she also does intensity very well indeed...)
I hope she also does a drama son. I like dramas best, because they're longer. :-)

Park Shi Yeon is very good in lighthearted roles like Coffee House, where I really fell in love with her. Be interesting to see her in dramatic role, though I have to say it helps that she LOOKS like the ultimate femme fatale.

I agree, how could they title the movie, Scent of a Woman??? the drama's actually airing, how could they continue with the same title...?

uh there are plenty of dramas and movies with the same name. and if the scripts already been written, perhaps they had the name down before the drama even came out. it'll probably change, they often change a few times before a movie starts promoting heavily.

With just one look we know that Park Si Hyeon is the ultimate femme fatal. But I think she shouldn't take this kind of role too often.
I love her in Coffee House she was just awesome. I think she should choose character who possesses great intelligence with a right dose of meaness and cheerfulness to win the hearts of others and try to avoid role that exploits her killer looks.
I hope that the comedic side of this movie will work to her advantage. Wouldn't it be awesome if she turns out to be the most lousy femme fatal ever?

Thriller/sex/comedy?! Cripes, I'm confused already and that copy-cat title isn't helping either.
Now I'm wondering if it's a "Fatal Attraction/Runaway:Plan B" kind of mash-up? Runaway had lots of those elements in the plot so maybe they'll skew it that way.
I'm taking it for granted that JSW won't be part of the comedy aspect - he's one serious dude (Thornbirds was a total downer for him).

Yeah.. Cant wait to see PSY again. Love PSY in Coffee House..which I saw 3 times. She was perfect for that role and had incredible chemistry with Kang Jih Hwan.. I even wish that they would be a couple in real life. Speaking of KJH.. Is he in any project?

So glad to hear PSY comeback, and with JSW!!! What a double bonus. Eventhough i prefer drama... Adore PSY in coffee house, i watch the drama over and over again for her. I hope she will be in drama project soon, but this movie is a must.

Name of the film has got to go. First, there is already an American movie and a Korean Drama with the same name.DUH? Can't they pull a better name out of a hat? So unoriginal.
Park Shi Yeon was good in Coffee House which was out of her normal femme fatale characterizations. I think that what made her interesting. She should expand her acting range and get out a rut from doing more femme fatale roles.
Definitively will watch it due to Joo Sang Wook, who is one of my favorite actors who can do any kind of role. Love him in TEN which was very suspenseful and well written.
