Kye Baek releases more posters, stills
by javabeans
Kye Baek is MBC’s newest sageuk, set to premiere next week and featuring Lee Seo-jin as the titular Kye Baek, a general of the Baekje nation.
Conventional sageuks aren’t really my bag (this one’s not as long as some others, being slated for 32 episodes), but even so, I’ll say that this one does look really beautiful, at least in the stills below. It seems they really spared no expense, with one battlefield scene including 400 extras who’d traveled down from Seoul to Gyeongju for a four-day shoot.
There are sizable expectations for this drama, which boasts the PD of Queen Seon-deok and the writer of Damo, the latter of which also starred Lee Seo-jin. The cast includes Jo Jae-hyun (New Heart), Cha In-pyo (Daemul, Oh Yeon-soo (Bad Guy), and Song Ji-hyo (Crime Squad).
Kye Baek premieres on Monday, July 25, and takes up the slot recently vacated by Miss Ripley.

Finally.
I guess it pays getting up at 8 a.m. on a Saturday!
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, no - it doesn't. I'm going back to bed! (I only woke up 'cause LMH keeps hogging the blanket...)

Father? He's hot enough to be the General. Lee Seo-Jin is getting pudgy as he ages.

I'm on board! Lee Seo-jin was born to star in sageuks (loved him in Damo, yet disliked his performance in Phoenix - too stiff). OMG, too many sageuks, so little time. Are rom-coms not as popular as they used to be?

Oh Yeon-Su (the villain). Song Yi hyo's character is said to have loved both Gyebaek and Euja. When Euja became king she abandoned Gyebaek to become queen.

I think you'll be able to endure it if you know a bit about the history behind it. I watched the current eps shown in Korea on the net without Eng Subs and then I watched it again with English subs on KBS but its like 10 eps behind Korea.
Try watching The Legend with Bae Yong Joon if you havent. It's the same story but different style (mythical) and it's also shorter. Gwanggaeto is going to be 80 eps :(.

Oh, the tragedy!
The cast looks good. I can't wait to see Park Sung-woong on the small screen again even if it's only for a bit. Another actor that I like playing General Kim Yu-shin: Jung Jin-young, Uhm Tae-woong, and now Park Sung-woong!

Kye Baek looks mighty like a hybrid between Queen Seon Deok and Jumong. But then that's no surprise since it is in the flagship MBC Mon-Tues sageuk slot.
The character posters are similar to those of QSD right down to the lettering.
Oh Yeon Soo and Song Ji Hyo, leading ladies from Jumong.
Jeon No Min, Ahn Kil Kang, Lee Hyun Woo, Park Eun Bin, Jeong Seong Mo, etc. from Queen Seondeok.
Slated for 32 episodes? Well, will the anniversary drama Light and Shadow really be ready to air on time come Nov/Dec? Has Ahn Jae Wook been confirmed as the lead yet? We all know how MBC loves extensions for their cash cows and Kye Baek will likely follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. Ratings should be quite stellar and popularity should be high among the general audience.
Quality-wise ... should be somewhat entertaining at least for the first few episodes ...

Jang Hee Woong♥ the red Hwarang from QSD is there too....
Anyways aren't alot of the actors in sageuks recycled from other sageuks? Still I've been waiting for a good sageuk since Seondeok and this looks promising at the least it should be nice to look at. And yeah I doubt Kyebaek will last only 32 episodes, I say an even 40 or 45.

Even if she's Ms Mong in Running Man, she still looks like a queen I guess. I'm definitely impressed that she can still get a queen role with all the running and crawling. hahaha Hooray for my favorite actress

Gyebaek is basically an unofficial sequel to QSD and Ballard of Seo Dong ( Kang ahh..anyone?).
Chunchu is now ruling Shilla after QSD's death and Kim Yushin takes full control of the Shilla army.
Baekje's ruler, King Euja is King Mu and Princess Sun Hwa (QSD's younger sister) son. Gyebaek becomes the leader of Baekje's army.
I didnt know Light and Shadow is going to be the anniversary drama. Sounds like Onjo and Biryu is a no go?.

Yup, Light and Shadow is supposed to be the anniversary drama with PD Lee Joo Hwan and writer Choi Wan Kyu. It'll be Ahn Jae Wook's drama comeback in 3 years since he last starred in I Love You.
Choi Wan Kyu ... big iffy UGHHHH ...
Haven't heard anything new about Onjo and Biryu ...
Baekje seems to be the IT kingdom being milked now eh?

Thanks chace. Light and Shadow is war drama right?. I hope it'll be as good as Comrades or better. I'm not into war dramas but Comrades was the one war drama that I really like.
I love Korea's 3 Kingdom Era. Anything Goguryeo, Baekje or Shilla is a treat.Yes, Baekje is being milked this year lol.
Hummn who will be next, King Daru maybe?

A tentative synopsis of Light and Shadow has it being an epic drama focusing on the life and accomplishments of the main male character named Tae Soo who becomes the top performer in the entertainment industry after starting out on the 8th Army stage. His story begins in the 1960s and continues on to the present day. The drama will cover The Vietnam War, the May 16th and October 26th incidents, and other major historical events.

wow you really know your sageuk! thank you for the explanation...
I am not really into sageuk but I watched Ballad of Seo Dong after 49 Days because of Kang ah/Jo Hyun Jae (of course!) ... and fell even more in love with him (blush, blush). I even checked out Dae Mang because of him. Dae Mang was very boring (it is so slowwwwwwwwww), but the young JHJ as the Prince Regent literally lit up the screen.
I wish he'd do another sageuk, he looks gorgeous in his warrior, prince and king costumes.
might check Gye Baek just to find out how the son of King Mu and Princess Sun hwa lost his kingdom.

6/is use to call him my prince
7/my handsome king
8/.......
9/.....
10/my general
, Yi San..the 22nd ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, leadership ability and charismatic presence allow him to become one of Korea's most popular kings and unite the land during one of the most tumultuous times in the Joseon Era.
Lee Seo Jin , born January, 1973)
He was in a relationship with "Lovers" co-star Kim Jung Eun[1] that started in January 2007 and broke up on October 29, 2008.
much wach "yisan" producer Lee Byung Hoon is genius
the drama might seem boring. 77 episodes – worth every second you’ll spend
