Kwon Sang-woo to share the big screen with Jackie Chan

Actor Kwon Sang-woo (My Tutor Friend, Daemul, Cinderella Man) who started his career showing off his fab bod as a model in the early 90’s and started the mom-zzang movement will be appearing on the big screen with Hong Kong star Jackie Chan. His career has been a bit of a roller coaster ride since his debut, and suffered a bit of a slump, but has had a recent revival with the box office hit Into the Gunfire and the success of his latest drama Daemul.

On June 6, Kwon Sang-woo started filming the movie 12 Chinese Zodiac Heads  in Paris. I’m intrigued by the pairing of Kwon Sang-woo and Jackie Chan together. My first impression of  Kwon Sang-woo from his first hit movie, My Tutor Friend, is one of a cocky bad boy itching for a fight at every turn… Pair that with the easygoing goofiness of Jackie Chan? Could this new team-up be better than Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan? Or will this new duo be standing on opposing sides trying to out-kick each other?

This movie is slated to be the first of an action-packed blockbuster trilogy starring Jackie Chan with an astounding estimated budget of 100 billion won. Even though it is a Chinese Epic Series, the anticipation for the series is high due to the popularity of Chan in the lead role. With the high budget of the film as well as the appeal of the lead actor, this could possibly be an opportunity for Kwon Sang-woo to expand his acting career to a wider audience in Asia. Will the bad boy be able to break the barrier with this movie?

With the filming of the movie well under way in Paris, the rest will be shot in other parts of the world including Thailand, Dubai, Taiwan and China. Mark your calendars — the first installment of the series, 12 Chinese Zodiac Heads, will be kicking its way to the theaters by the New Year!

I saw it in China and it wasn't worth the price of the ticket. It didn't get into the historical and most important part of the story hardly at all. I would stick to the book if I were you.

So good to know this wonderful opportunity for KSW. He is a good actor so he will have his own moments in the movie and let us all root for him!

Hey, Sassychef!
Glad to see you jumping right in with these interview-type articles - 2 good topics/stars in a row.

I was rather startled to see this post come up with news of KSW and his new project - only because I was web cruising around last night and happened on an article/interview with Kim Hyung Joon, who's really good friends with KSW. He (KHJ) had asked KSW if he had watched Greatest Love. KSW replied that not only had he watched it but he thought it was based on his real-life events when he announced plans to marry and the devastation that anti-fans caused to them and the resulting damage to his career. Scary stuff, indeed - the Hong sisters have long memories.
So, along with your post of YKS yesterday, it was a rather serendipitous topic.

The only difference is, Greatest Love is not based on KWS's life, because Doko Jin's love hadn't slept with any of his costars. Big difference, I'd say. The fans didn't turn on him for nothing. And let's not forget the horrible way he behaved after the fact. So many celebities get married pregnant and don't lie about it. I see him as a liar. Everytime he's in trouble he lies and tries to pin it on someone else. Take into account his DUI. His manager almot took the fall for him. I do't care f I never see him again. At best he's a so-so actor, who was once cute and sexy. Now he's neither of those things.

I know I may be in the minority, but I'm really tired of his feeling sorry for himself and trying to shove something down the throats of the public. I wish him well, I just wish he'd shut the hell up.

I don't know how I feel about this. I love Jackie Chan, but I've had quite a love-hate relationship with Kwon Sang-woo. Yeesh, this WILL be interesting. How ironic that one of my favorite movies that has Kwon, which was the awesome Almost Love, is the movie where he played a character that was trying to follow in the awesome footsteps of Jackie Chan. And now here he is in real life, pairing up with the Great Chan himself. This really would be interesting.

Go JACKIE!

I think this could lead to more than exposure in the Asian markets ....... could we finally get a Korean star in the West?

12 of these heads were much controversial for many years now. They were stolen during the united front attack Beijing and opium wars.

A friend of mine who once involved in the auctions of some of those heads told me that many hong kong and macau tycoons who wants to be in the good books of Beijing, bought those heads back from various auctions around the world, and present them as gift to the national party.

most of those heads were now auction in Paris, rather than Hong Kong because some of those heads were once supposed to be auctioned, never made it to the table. The auction was cancelled, and the heads were mysteriously disappeared, or rather it is from the instruction from high up.

The HK auctioneer has to bear all costs, but cannot say a single word, except it is now canceled. LOL!!! The heads are now mysteriously turned up at the "Forbidden City"!!

I thought that Jachie Chan didn't want to do any more action-movies? Or rather, any more movies, where he's doing the action.

Kwon Sang Woo deserves this big break.

And it's about time Jackie gets to pair up with another Asian, particularly a Hallyu star with talent such as KSW's.

I'm looking forward to this...

But I'm worried, pairing up with a mega star inevitably reduces one to second lead. Remember Zhang Ziyi pairing up with So Ji sub in that chick-litlike movie, Sophie's Revenge? He was reduced to such a minor role. But hopefully, Jacky's magnanimous enough to allow equal screen time.

haha! it depends, YY, on the roles they will play. Jackie is now ok doing major and yet support roles like Karate Kid. Who knows... maybe in this movie he will play the evil ahjussi to kwon sang woo's character, hehe.

My dream pairings:

1. Al Pacino and Eric Moon (they've got puppy eyes)
2. Eric Bana and Choi Siwon (Eric's got abs too, Viola)
3. Keanu Reeves and Yong Hwa (scenestillers)
4. Robert Pattinson and Rain (er...cos they're cute?)
5. Colin Firth and Hand Towel (Colin sweated a lot in The King's Speech)

1 YES!
2 Cute, but can be scary + cute = OK
3 Maybe they could be the furniture like in Beauty and the Beast, only these don't move. Nothing would happen...ever...
4 No! + way cuter = I only love Rain.
5 Funnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

What about boy + girl pairings?

Who in the West deserves to share the screen with CSW?
Kate Winslet? Emma Watson? Keira Knightley? Carey Mulligan? Rosamunde Pike? (Yes, they almost all played Austen characters...)

KSW does have beautiful kicks not as lethal as Jet Li's however mesmerizing to watch. I hope he can still make moves like he done back when he debuted.

Oh my god. WOW.

This is such a great news. I love Jackie Chan so much. And with Kwan Sang Woo? omg. I can't wait.

I've seen KSW's movie Almost Love which I love. He's an aspiring Jackie Chan there. And now he would actually shoot a movie with him? Awesome.

KSW plays certain character well. Not sure he will be able to do as well as Jackie Chan in action shots. I did not think he was great in Daemul. Still good luck to him. There are certainly more and more kactors/actresses being offered roles in overseas film these days, which attest to the popularity of k entertainment.

I Like Kwong Sang Woo. He is the dream man for most girls! He is good looking and a good actor. But I don't like Jackie Chan and Cecilia Cheung, the actress of the movie. It would be good if the movie doesn't have them.
