Extension nixed for Miss Ripley
by javabeans
Oh thank goodness. MBC has decided to forget the potential 4-episode extension for Miss Ripley, meaning it’ll end with its originally planned 16 episodes.
The reason given for the decision was that the actors’ schedules wouldn’t allow for an extension. The production rep stated that Lee Da-hae has activities planned in China soon after the drama wraps (assuming a 16-episode schedule), and that Yoochun is physically exhausted after his JYJ world tour and drama shoots. (It was also his tight JYJ schedule that helped prevent a Sungkyunkwan Scandal extension last year, thankfully.)
Well, that’s a relief. Not because I don’t think the story couldn’t have sustained 20 episodes, ’cause I think it could have — but only if it had been planned that way at the start. Or at least been given more time to work in additional storylines. At 12 episodes in, adding time would merely be stretching out the next four episodes into eight instead, and I was NOT looking forward to that. Especially since Miss Ripley is a drama whose pacing relies on calculated buildups of suspense.
Plus, we can’t forget that the ending was foreshadowed in the first episode, so it’s not like you could just hijack the direction and end it differently than it had been set up to be. Well, you could, but that would be throwing logic out the window, and why do that? Other than for the sadly all-too-familiar reasoning that seems to say, Because we can, silly.
Therefore, sageuk series Kye Baek will follow Miss Ripley with a late July premiere, rather than August.

Am on a roll this is like my 3rd numero uno comment and I've resisted the urge to do the childish comment.
Going to give myself a lolly as a reward :-)
All jokes aside am really looking forward to seeing the Miri development.Must say this is 1 drama where I don't want the leading female to have happiness. She can have self awareness, remorse and redemption BUT no happiness please.
Yes yes I may sound callous but if she marries into a rich family-can you imagine her under pressure. She would be the world's worst MIL/ bitch from hell.Hands down.

I still hope for a happy ending for Miri (+ending up with Yoohyun) just because she has suffered enough in the earlier parts of her life.
I definitely wish that Heejoo and Chuljin would end up together (such wishful thinking sigh)

Yoochun might say he is exhausted and he probably is
but he'll probably go on a very very very short holiday again with Junsu/jaejoong and be back to preparing for the August mini album
Workaholics all of them. =.="
But i'm glad Ripley isnt getting an extension
The pace is perfect ^_^
Go Darth Yoohyun
Take that Miri Down!

Although i haven't watched this drama i've read the recaps (thanks DB and GF) I didn't think an extension would work. A character who plots out everything won't let her plan drag out. So i'm glad they nixed the thought. Maybe for Scandal it might have been better cause we get a rush ending.

That's awesome news! The boy needs to go and rest a bit plus he needs to gain a bit more weight.
But I wished that SKKS WAS extended... because then it would give for a more satisfactory ending than what was given in the last two episodes. If it was extended to say 26 (or 24), I bet the drama could have addressed so many of the loose ends and questions I have.... *sigh* - still having many regrets about one of my crack addiction dramas of all time.....

Agree , this drama fail to convince viewers Miri is supersmart girl she can fool normal IQ people , in this drama Miri is normal IQ girl who is seducing two low IQ men that why i find it boring , unbelievable .
Recently i watch Jin , Japanese drama , frictional but believable , realistic , no love triangle , smart people doing smart, meaningful things which make viewers remember these storyline and characters for longtime .

i'm relieved. most of the time extensions hurt dramas and now that the drama is like 75% through, the story shouldnt be dragged out any longer. yoochun needs the rest T_T
