City Hunter: Episode 15

The prosecutor is hot on his trail and it looks like someone’s secret identity isn’t going to be secret for very long. Could the City Hunter maybe just take a wee break from saving the world so that he can focus on maintaining his cover? My blood pressure would surely appreciate it.

EPISODE 15 RECAP

Yoon-sung rescues Young-ju from being gassed to death, and pulls him out of the car in time just as he’s lost consciousness. He stirs awake and reaches out to grab Yoon-sung’s ankle, and tries to make out the silhouette.

Yoon-sung stops, and then turns toward him… just as Young-ju loses consciousness again. Yeesh, playing it close there, buddy? He calls the police to report a man lying on the ground and leaves.

Meanwhile Target No. 4 Chun Jae-man has already burned the top secret book that would’ve served as proof of their involvement in the October ’83 incident. Argh, it pains me that Yoon-sung had to give that up to go save Young-ju, though of course I wouldn’t have him choose differently.

His secretary alerts him to a possible intruder, since the desk guards are knocked out. He guesses quickly that the City Hunter was here, but no matter—he’s too late now.

Well he might be, but Daddy is always one step ahead. He acquires the original book, having paid for the man to deliver a duplicate to Chun. Sometimes I LOVE Evil Daddy!

In exchange for a car full of cash, the man gives Jin-pyo the original copy along with the tidbit that a prosecutor has been requesting to see this book for some time now. Jin-pyo guesses quickly that it’s Young-ju.

He calls Yoon-sung to warn him about how close Young-ju is getting to their case. He even knows about Jin-pyo’s real identity and reminds him that because Yoon-sung drove his father to the brink, the prosecutor won’t go easy on him. “Because no matter what, a father is a father.” Coming from you? Am I supposed to laugh or cry?

Yoon-sung defiantly tells him that he’ll never get caught (says the guy who turned his face towards him not twenty minutes ago!) and that he’ll protect his own, no matter what. Dad thinks it foolish of him to think he can have it all—love, family, a normal life.

Yoon-sung swears fiercely that he will protect them, and Dad says to himself that love and a normal life are not things that they can have.

At home he goes over the security footage in Young-ju’s garage and discovers Mr. Creepy. He recognizes him right away as Chun’s right hand man, who came after Target No. 1, Nana, and now Young-ju. I think you also stole his hat once.

Nana asks if he’s working on Target No. 4, and Yoon-sung tells her she cannot participate this time, no ifs ands or buts. “You saw me going into a hotel room with another woman. Do you still want to help?”

He says he doesn’t want her getting mixed up in dangerous business anymore (’cause her being a presidential bullet shield is less so?) and she’s forced to back down. She asks if he has to continue, the answer to which she already knows. Aw, it only makes sense now that it’s not personal for her anymore, she’s wondering if he’ll ever get out.

They get ready to head to the hospital to visit Mom and bring Ajusshi back home, but then he walks through the door, bag in hand. He says he couldn’t stand the hospital anymore because he couldn’t even watch the home shopping channel (HA) and so cut out early.

Yoon-sung’s face lights up like a Christmas tree (aw), and wonders if Ajusshi really almost died, since he looks so normal. Ajusshi: “Die? Why would I die? And leave the home shopping network? There’s so much more I have to buy!” Hahahaha. Leave it to Shik-joong to fight death to shop another day.

Yoon-sung and Nana head to the hospital and come across a little boy in the waiting room, digging around for loose change. Nana helps him by lifting the couch whole hog, like she’s got super-strength. How much do I love that in regular life, Nana’s the hulk and Yoon-sung’s the prissy one?

The kid, Kim Yoon-shik, says that he’s here visiting his mom in the same ward, and Nana wonders why his name sounds familiar. She muses that it must be because of Yoon-sung.

They visit Mom, who’s doing well, and Nana leaves them to talk alone. Mom thinks that Nana is pretty and nice, since she’s known her for a long time (technically much longer than she’s known her son). Yoon-sung scoffs that she’s not that pretty (heh).

Mom takes out a ring, “Your father gave this to me. Give it to Nana.” He tells her that they’re not in that kind of relationship, but Mom sees through the crap and asks why he’s being so cold and rigid when he clearly likes her. She tells him that she wants him to be happy.

He mentions her ridiculous super-strength earlier with the kid, and Mom asks if it was Yoon-shik. His mother is receiving the same treatment that she is, and she used to work for Haewon Labs (Chun Jae-man’s company, I’m assuming the pharmaceutical division).

Ding dong. New case for Yoon-sung.

He comes out to find Nana dozing off in the hallway, and stares at her lovingly for a while, contemplating the ring. Oh man, that ring’s gonna be the source of my TEARS, isn’t it? It’s just perfectly rife for a tragic twist—Mom’s ring for Nana. Aaaaaaauuuugh. Why’d ya have to do it, Mom?

She stirs awake and he quickly hides the ring, covering up his awkwardness with the complaint that she sleeps anywhere, calling her Nana Bear. She looks up at him with a smile and tells him that she won’t insist on being part of his cases anymore.

“But in exchange you have to be careful. And careful. And more careful. And you have to call me whenever you need my help. You know that there’s no partner like me, right?” Aw. He can’t say anything and takes her by the hand to walk out.

Young-ju finally wakes up in the hospital, and his assistant hilariously fawns about how this is so unlike him, to give up and off himself. Maybe it’s not so funny in the words, but it’s his over-the-top sincerity when we know he’s misinformed.

Young-ju insists that it’s not what he thinks, but his minion is too fraught to listen, which is kind of adorable. He checks his phone, and on it is a video message of the same footage that Yoon-sung was looking at earlier.

He recognizes the man as Chun Jae-man’s lackey right away, and has Chun tailed immediately. He tries to remember who saved him, and he flashes back to the man’s blurry profile… “Lee Yoon-sung.” EEEP!

He rushes out, only to find Yoon-sung standing in that very hospital lobby with Nana. He happened to stop to translate for a Thai man who couldn’t explain his symptoms, and Young-ju watches curiously.

His assistant remembers that the day Young-ju had gone to get Yoon-sung’s blood tested against the City Hunter’s, he had lost Yoon-sung’s tail because of Nana’s interference. Oh no… he’s closing in!

Young-ju gets back on the City Hunter case full force, rules be damned. He tells his assistant to look into Yoon-sung’s family—he’s already pieced together that he’s probably Mu-yeol and Kang-hee’s son (I love that he’s smart!), but lacks proof. He also knows that Jin-pyo is connected somehow, but doesn’t know why.

Lackey: “Is this because of your father?” Young-ju: “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t.” He vows to chase the truth about the City Hunter and the October ’83 incident to the end. I’m so torn! I want him to succeed, but then, I don’t!

He returns to the hospital to see his father, and jumps at the sight of the President sitting by his Dad’s bedside. They go out for a drink (Dude! You’re at a pojangmacha! With the President!) and Young-ju expresses regret at not being able to stop the City Hunter or persuade his father to turn himself in.

The President sighs that turning yourself in is the hardest thing to do, and relates a story about stealing a friend’s lunchbox as a kid, and then not having the courage to confess even when the teacher had offered him an out.

President Choi: The more time passed, the more I couldn’t confess. That’s what it is to surrender. It’s the same for your father, and I’m no different. To lose your timing… what a frightening thing that really is.

It’s so interesting that he’s the only one of the Council of Five to be this self-aware and therefore so full of guilt… and yet that doesn’t make him any less responsible. It’s almost worse that he knows what’s right, and hasn’t the courage to face it. The others can be called immoral or delusional or lacking conscience, but he is none of those things… making him simply a coward.

Young-ju comes home to find Sae-hee there, setting out dinner for him. Aw, she’s worried about him. She clearly feels awkward about being there, but says she just came in since the lock code was still the same.

She says he looks lonely, and he sighs, “I feel like an island.” Crush my heart, why don’t you? Sae-hee is concerned to hear him talk that way, since it’s so out of character, and adds that she’s worried about his father but didn’t want to upset him by visiting since he never liked her.

Young-ju: “I messed up everything with Dad. And you and me.” She takes his hand, “Be strong, Kim Young-ju. An island doesn’t suit you. You’re a bridge. A bridge between people.”

That gets him to smile and she tells him that she’s always wanted to be his strength, even though he used to pour all of that back onto his work, leaving her peeved. Aw. It’s sweet that they can at least be friends now, despite their marriage failing. And I’m sure it means a great deal to her, to have him admit that maybe he’s the one who took her for granted in the past.

Ajusshi asks Yoon-sung if he really needs to carry out his revenge. His perspective has changed after his trip to death’s door, and he wonders now if the three of them (with Nana) can’t run away from Jin-pyo and this life for good.

Nana turns to Yoon-sung expectantly, but he shuts down the idea right away. “If I don’t finish this, I’ll never be able to live like a normal person.” Turns out you’re not that different from Daddy yourself.

Did you ever think that maybe doing this is what makes it impossible to ever live normally? It’s sweet that you think seeing this through means you can walk away cleanly, but though Jin-pyo’s perspective is darker, it’s probably more realistic, truth be told.

He stalks off and contemplates the ring again. He says to himself: “When I finish all this. If I’m still alive then…” What? IF? No IF! Goddamn that ring! I wasn’t scared until that ring came along. Now it just makes me nervous!

Nana brings him tea and tells him to be strong. “No matter what you do, I trust you and I’m cheering you on. You know I like you, right?” He laughs, “How can you just say that you like someone so easily?” She thinks there’s no reason to hide her feelings, since he already knows. It’s great that the guy who can’t say how he feels on pain of death gets told all the time how much he’s liked, and that it embarrasses him to no end.

Young-ju listens again to his recording, with references to “Mission: Clean Sweep,” and wonders, “Lee Yoon-sung, what kind of person are you?”

At the Blue House, Nana and her co-workers chat about the City Hunter over coffee, and everyone shares their opinions on the mysterious figure. Ki-joon thinks that he’s a hero like Hong Gil-dong, while Eun-ah thinks he’s shady.

Nana’s boss thinks the City Hunter is on the side of good, and when they wonder if Chun Jae-man’s statement about the City Hunter being a menace to society is right, Nana blurts out that she doesn’t trust Chun. She quickly adds that it’s because he did nothing when his own lab workers got sick from exposure to chemicals.

Da-hae shows Nana and Eun-ah her collection of Yoon-sung stalker photos, which is impressively large. Eun-ah sighs for poor far-gone Da-hae with her pipedream crush… because she’s under the impression that Yoon-sung likes HER. Ha. You might want to save some of that pity for yourself.

She finds one where she accidentally caught Nana in the shot, the two of them laughing together, and gives it to Nana.

Yoon-sung trails Chun Jae-man and does research on his minion Creeps McGee, also known as Suk Doo-shik. In the middle of his stakeout, Yoon-sung gets a text from his credit card company for another purchase on the home shopping network for 149,000 won. He shouts, “Aaaaaiiiieee this ajusshi!” Hee.

Chun goes to see that kid Yoon-shik’s mom, in an attempt to strongarm her out of her lawsuit against the company. Haewon is refusing to acknowledge that they’re making their employees sick with hazardous chemicals, while the employees are rallying together in an effort to bring everything to light. So basically, Chun Jae-man is the devil.

He then offers her a bribe—money, college tuition for her son, and even a job in his company for him when he gets out of school. All she has to do in return is sign a little bitty document stating that her illness is wholly unrelated to her work at Haewon. He gives her a day to think about it, adding that if she doesn’t sign, she’ll have to leave the hospital. Wow. Just wow.

His secretary comes by to give him a list of the factory’s chemicals used, as requested by the employees for their civil suit. He freaks out that they can’t get their hands on this, and rips it up in an angry panic. He tosses it in the trash can beside him.

Okay, it’s way too convenient that he throws such incriminating evidence in the trash, but I suppose Yoon-sung could use a break.

At the same time, the little kid Yoon-shik finds another coin and knocks into Chun in his excitement, losing the coin under his shoe. Chun calls him a beggar like his mother and tells Creepy to “get rid of it” like he’s a piece of garbage to move out of the way. Geez, let’s just give the guy a pitchfork and call it a day.

Yoon-sung comes home and tosses the paper scraps to Ajusshi, asking him to piece it together. I love that Ajusshi immediately turns off the TV when Yoon-sung comes home, so that he won’t be caught in the act of home shopping. At least he knows it’s an addiction?

Yoon-sung finds Nana in his office, and she happily presents their new framed picture. He reacts badly because he’s incapable of not being a feeling-repressing doofus, and pretends to be angry because the picture was taken without his permission.

She thinks he ought to just leave it on his desk anyway and starts getting interested in the Haewon case. He barks at her to stay out of it, accidentally knocking the picture to the ground. The glass shatters, and now there’s a giant rift between them in the photo. Wah.

She storms out angrily, wondering why he’s always so nasty about everything, and tells him that he can throw it away if he wants.

Once she’s gone he sighs and takes out the ring again. Dad’s words swim around in his head:

Jin-pyo:You put your life on the line every day – what can you protect with that? Loving, and protecting your love… do you really think it’ll go the way you want?

He finds that Nana didn’t even leave, and is instead helping Ajusshi piece together the document. She really does win the award for pluckiest girl ever. He leads her out by the hand.

Outside, he apologizes for being so rude and explains that he really hates being in pictures. She asks for the photo back, but he says he already threw it away. Lying liar. Why can’t you just tell her you’re going to sleep with it every night?

She picks up a gold twisty-tie lying on the ground, and puts it on her finger like a ring. She of course has no idea that putting a ring on her finger is all he’s been obsessing about lately, and flaunts it in his agitated face.

He gets a call from the hospital with good news: he’s a match for his mother and can give her the marrow transplant she needs. Yay!

Young-ju gets the report on Yoon-sung’s past, aka his cover past as John Lee. Apparently his parents are alive and well in Texas, though his school records indicate that he wasn’t exactly MIT material. They smell the fishy, but can’t quite catch it.

At the same time, a bunch of Thai immigrants are escorted in from a recent drug bust, and Young-ju notes it in passing but thinks nothing of it.

A nurse brings a cd player into Kyung-hee’s hospital room and offers that music will help lift her spirits. Kyung-hee sits up at the music, startled to hear a familiar old song, wondering how someone so young could know a song like that.

Oh, it’s Jin-pyo isn’t it? Gah, why are you simultaneously being sweet AND devious? It’s adorably sweet that he sends her a familiar song, and that it really does lift her spirits… but a) that stereo’s probably got a bug on it, and b) he’s now got info on her condition and the fact that Yoon-sung is preparing to give her a transplant. This can only end in tears.

Nana comes to visit Mom and makes her feel better about all the things she can do with Yoon-sung once she’s better. Mom peers at Nana’s hands and asks, “Did Yoon-sung not give you a ring?”

What? Moooooooooom! WHY would you say that? If her fingers are naked, then he clearly didn’t give it to her! GAH. I know you’re facing death, but are you trying to take romance with you?!

Nana comes in to tell Yoon-sung (who is upset about the lack of style in his hospital clothes, heh) that she asked the doctors for a favor and got permission for him to sleep in his mom’s room that night. Aw. He doesn’t do his usual garbled hate-as-love thing, and just sincerely thanks her.

She starts to ask something and then says nevermind… as she clenches her ringless hand. God, I KNEW that ring was trouble. Why Drama, why?

That night he gets to sleep in Mom’s room (so sweet) as she holds his hand and talks about all the things she wants to do with him. He tells her that all he wants is for her to be healthy and happy.

Mom: “I’m already happy.” OH GOD, she’s gonna die, isn’t she?

She sings him to sleep with a song that his father used to sing all the time – it’s the same song that Jin-pyo sent to her earlier. Aw, that breaks my heart for Jin-pyo too.

Young-ju doggedly follows the John Lee trail and confirms that it’s a stolen identity, since the real John Lee died in a car accident. He calls John’s parents to ask why they lied that their son was still alive, and she tells him that a man came from the Triangle and gave them money to buy their son’s identity.

That sparks an idea in Young-ju’s head and he bursts into an interrogation room, demanding to speak to the culprits of the drug bust.

Yoon-sung starts the transplant, and Nana brings him the pieced-together file that Chun threw away, along with research on the current strike at Haewon, and their difficulty in prosecuting Chun. She also found stories speculating on Haewon’s illegal disposal of hazardous chemicals.

He looks up at her, impressed. Nana: “Why? Since I did your work for you, do I suddenly look pretty in your eyes?” Yoon-sung: “Hey, didn’t I tell you? Look in the mirror! Have you already forgotten? You… Chicken Nana.” Nana: “What am I, an animal farm? Why am I always a bear or a chicken?” Keh. Why are they so cute?

Da-hae has taken on a part-time job at the coffee shop so she can buy her dad a birthday present, since “there are no rules that a President’s daughter can’t work a part-time job.” Aw, that makes me like her.

She’s almost given up on getting into college, deciding that she could be a barista because Yoon-sung likes coffee. Ha. Oh, honey, he only likes Nana’s coffee, and it’s not really about the coffee.

Eun-ah continues to think she’s dreaming the impossible dream because Yoon-sung is madly in love with her. Shik-joong shows up to visit Eun-ah and offers to buy her a coffee, and then pays with his credit card… which gets declined. HA.

He tries card after card after card, but Yoon-sung’s put a block on all of them, so he’s left totally on the spot in front of his crush. Ki-joon spots them and swoops in with his card, totally deflating Shik-joong.

He storms into Yoon-sung’s hospital room, blathering incessantly, “How could you? How could you?” He throws down his wallet in a huff and Yoon-sung yells, “I told you to quit home shopping!”

He insists that he was buying things for Nana, not himself, and Yoon-sung calls him out on making up excuses. He tells Ajusshi that he’ll be given a cash allowance from now on so that he can’t use his cards.

He blubbers back, stricken, “You… you… really… You’ve changed!” Hahaha. Yoon-sung laughs to himself, calling him a grade-schooler.

He goes straight home to pack his bags, still in utter denial about his problem. Yoon-sung calls, and how cute is it that his number is saved as: ♥ Yoon-sung ♥ ? He hrmphs and doesn’t answer.

Yoon-sung scoffs at the phone rejection and then Nana calls (Her number is saved as: Nana Bear. Awwwww). Nana: “Ajusshi is at my house, and there’s a problem… I think he ran away from home… he has bags.” Keh.

Yoon-sung flips out and heads over there. Meanwhile Ajusshi vents his side of the story to Nana, like an unappreciated wifey who’s left home to teach hubby a lesson. He insists that Yoon-sung has changed.

He wails to Nana, and then Yoon-sung shows up and tells him to get up and go home. But he refuses.

Ajusshi: You promised that you’d make me happy here and that I could do whatever I wanted, but all I ever do is get beaten up by strange men and pose as insurance salesmen for a con, and… I’m going back to the Triangle!
Yoon-sung: Go? Where do you think you’re going?! You know I can’t live without you!
Ajusshi: What do you mean you can’t live without me? You’re always nagging me! Like you can’t live without me.
Yoon-sung: I can’t live without you. I was wrong.
Ajusshi: I’m not doing any of this for me. I’m just trying to feed you and take care of you.
Yoon-sung: I know, I know. I was wrong. I’ll let you use your cards, okay?
Nana: Um… maybe you could have your marital spat at home…

HAHAHAHAHA. That’s what I was gonna say!

Yoon-sung basically dies of embarrassment and drags Ajusshi out of there. Hee. I love his relationship with Ajusshi So. Much.

Nana sends Ajusshi back home and comes to see Yoon-sung back at the hospital. He’s running a fever and doesn’t feel well, which makes him just weak enough to give in and lean on her a little, which I love. Please be sick all the time.

He pulls her down on the couch and leans on her shoulder, telling her not to move while he cools down his fever. Uh… that’s not how to cool down, or do you not know about hormones?

She tries to fill the awkwardness with chatter, asking about his life in the Triangle, and then he catches her making moon eyes at him.

Yoon-sung: “You just looked at me with sexy eyes, didn’t you?” She darts up, totally caught red-handed. Rawr!

He crosses his arms, all judgy, “If I think about it, you never lose an opportunity. Do you like me that much?” She laughs at the ego of it all, but bounces back in her Nana Bear way: “Yes, I do. This is why the person who confesses first always loses. Why don’t you tell me that you like me? Tell me now.”

I love so much that she’s so direct and spunky. He turns to her, serious all of a sudden. “‘I like you’… I can’t say those words to you. Don’t expect them.” Aw, just stab her with a blunt blade, why don’t you.

She covers up her heartbreak with a laugh saying that she was just joking, and that she’s got some pride. She asks him to fulfill one wish for her this winter instead and walks out.

She says aloud to herself: “That’s right, Kim Nana. It’s not like you didn’t know. Let’s not get hurt.” Sob.

Later, Yoon-sung gets dressed to go out as the City Hunter and looks in the mirror, “I have to live like this. So how can I tell you… that I like you?”

He infiltrates Haewon Labs and takes samples of the toxic chemicals. Without a moon suit? Are you crazy?! People are DYING because of their exposure to this crap, and you don’t even have a gas mask on? Okay, somebody get this guy a Q, stat.

The guards open up the chemical valves and try to gas him out, but he fights his way out and barely gets away… but the exposure weakens him severely.

He has to stop and get out on the side of the road, heaving and gasping for air. Nana calls with plans to spend New Year’s Eve together, but he can’t respond. She realizes that he isn’t answering and just hangs up, while I scream: Have you forgotten that he’s the City Hunter? He could be bleeding out in a ditch somewhere! Track his phone!

He sits like that in the street for a while, and then finally makes it home… where Young-ju is there waiting for him.

He notes that Yoon-sung looks tired, and he replies that he’s been clubbing all night. They’re used to this back and forth now, and keep up the smiling banter. Young-ju tells him that the City Hunter sent him a video of Chun’s man making the attempt on his life.

Young-ju: “I should be grateful, if he’s helping the man who’s chasing him.”

Yoon-sung tells him that if he ever meets the City Hunter, he’ll pass that along, and turns to walk away.

Young-ju smiles, just giddy to drop this bomb…

“You look tired. Get some rest… Puchai.”

Yoon-sung stops in his tracks to hear Young-ju call him by his Triangle nickname, the one his surrogate mother used to call him by.

COMMENTS

I really love this cat-and-mousing between Yoon-sung and Young-ju. It’s escalating in a great way, and I’m so torn between wanting the prosecutor to succeed and wanting Yoon-sung to keep his cover from being blown.

I’m so curious to know how far Young-ju’s going to take this, and the awesomeness of the setup is that both men are in the right. It’s just a relative kind of right, and on two sides of the law, which keeps the stakes high.

What makes the ongoing battle between them so compelling is that they’re both so idealistic and so fiercely sure in their own code of honor that neither is ever going to back down from the other. If you know that Young-ju’s just going to cave and join the team or that Yoon-sung is going to play by the rules, it’s a moot game. But we know they’ll each fight to the death for what they believe in, putting them forever at odds. It’s the most compelling “relationship” (if you can even call it that) in the show, despite the fact that there’s no real movement beyond a stalemate.

I was ecstatic to have some down time for Yoon-sung with his personal relationships in this episode, despite the fact that he continues to be a Noble Idiot Extraordinaire by refusing to admit how much he loves Nana.

I could pretty much kill Mom for giving him that ring, let alone telling Nana about it (grar), because now it’s just going to hang there, in the balance, taunting us with its unfulfilled potential as a trinket o’ love.

So....after I watched this, I was looking at hancinema.net for my KDrama news, and they had a "spoiler" article saying that YS proposed to NN at the end of the episode. I'm like..."what!!!!!???? how the heck did I miss that???" So, I went back and watched the end again....nada! So I read the spoiler article again...the rest of it sounds like this episode and 16 hasn't aired yet. What do you suppose is up with that??

Ok, I just watched the preview for 16....I think whoever wrote the hancinema article was watching the ep 16 previews when they wrote that. Whatever....

I LOVE reading your recaps....there's always something that I didn't catch that you did, it helps. I wish I understood Korean better, I have to wait for the subtitles and I don't think they catch all the little things. Not to mention your recaps always make me giggle. :0)

Puchai, my understanding of it, means Young Boy.... Isn't it kinda sad... They might as well called him strange. Its like he didn't have a real family, or real parents so he wasn't given a proper name.....

And... What were those Thai drug dealers doing in Korea? Their boss (Jinpyo) specifically said, NO DRUGS IN KOREA!!! Didn't he even kill a man because of it? You guy are lucky you're going to Jail, I wouldn't want to run into Jinpyo if I were you.

Argh!!!! I don't like it one bit. I'm ok with Yoon Sung's City Hunter identity being exposed but why does his whole life need to be found out?! And, how did Young Ju know about John Lee? Is it because Yoon Sung had to revealed his English name, to make sense with the whole MIT thing? To say that in America my name was John Lee and I went went to this school, and got this degree?

I was LMFAO through out the whole Marital issue. Lol!!! Yoon Sung-ah, you already have a wife quit playing with Nana!!! Lol.

Nana... *Sigh* I've said this many, many, MANY times. But, it is time for you to try to move on!!!! Who knows, you could possibly even make Yoon Sung so jealous that I confesses to you. Lol.

Jinpyo has gone soft man!!! What happen to evil daddy? Awwww!!!!! TT_TT Jinpyo has a soft spot for Kyung-hee!!!!
(I wonder where Daddy's bitch was through out this episode....)

I really enjoyed this episode; the plot is moving toward its climax while staying interesting and keeping us asking questions. I also really liked the interactions between YS and NN - where they are in their relationship right now seems realistic given that YS is still in danger, but at the same time it gives me hope that he does confess to her by the next episode. I`m also very glad that Nana isn`t the typical kdrama heroine that keeps her feelings to herself; Nana takes the high-road time and again when YS hurts her feelings, and I really admire her maturity.

I`m really confused about whether or not JP is YS`s true father after this ep, since some of us were speculating that maybe the President is the real father. It`s becoming clearer that JP does have feelings for YS`s mom, which I find very sweet, and I highly doubt he will kill her since the cancer is doing a well enough job on its own..

I`m really, really, worried about the spoiler that came out on Soompi concerning the possible death of Nana. Girlfriday`s concerns about the ring also worry me, since it does seem like the type of thing that YS would hold onto forever after losing NN, thinking about what may have been..

On the other hand, this drama has been relatively light-hearted since episode 2, and the manga itself ended happily, so it could be they won`t give us a tragic ending >__<

Argh, I think I just need to mentally prepare myself for either scenario!!

Thank god today is Thursday!

Re: Jinpyo as the birth father.

I'm surprised no one else has commented on the fact that the song Kyung Hee identifies as the song YS's father sang is the song Jinpyo sent her via the nurse. Does that mean that Jinpyo is the father? I really want Jinpyo to be the father, whether or not YS's mom is the only one to know the truth at this moment. I don't want the President being the father. It's obvious Muyeol isn't the bio dad.

Yeah, these are the reasons I keep watching City Hunter. Oedipus redux - minus the incestuous relationship between mom and son.

Why is it obvious Muyeol isn't the dad?...I don't think the show has hinted at any kind of Makjang plot. I would be very, very disappointed if they threw that kind of birth secret in. It just doesn't sit right with me. Jin pyo had such a bromance with Mu yeol that I don't think he could ever have disrespected Mu yeol so much as to sleep with his wife. Plus I think Yoon sung's Mom is more honest than that. She's never been shown worrying about who Yoon sung's father is and she just mentioned that she and Yoon sung should hold a memorial for Mu yeol once she gets out of the hospital...

As for Jin pyo's feelings for Yoon sung's mom- I think they are a carryover from that scene in the first episode where they were in the hospital and Jin pyo was meeting his hyung's new son. I think he feels a sense of responsibility for his hyung's wife, basically his sister-in-law. I don't think he has romantic feelings for her. If he did why would he cause her such pain, by kidnapping her baby and leaving a note saying he's the one who did it?

Also when was the president ever with Yoon sung's mother back in 1982-83. I know they met, but that's a long way from sleeping together or having a relationship.

Mu yeol is Yoon sung's biological father. No makjang!

I think after watching ep 16 you'll see that there are strong hints that Mu Yeol isn't YS' father... ie. removing beans from the rice.

But yes, I agree, it could be that JP just has affection for KH in a brotherly way - we'll have to wait and see!

I haven't yet seen Episode 16, but there were hints in an earlier scene when YS ate a meal his mother cooked for him for the first time and his mother made an off-hand comment that he was just like his father, only to be caught off guard when YS noted that comment. It was a dead giveaway that Muyeol isn't YS's father. She'd found herself almost caught in a lie, except YS was clueless to it.

0

Yeah Why didn't notice that YS doesn't like beans, the president didn't like it too and The daughter too bec. They,re related. YS and the daughter are siblings!

Sigh. Yup. It's the President. Sadness. The end of 16, though. Does that mean the Pres also has figured it out?

Just watched the episode. I'm really loving the cat and mouse game too. Young-Ju is such a good investigator and I love that about his character...he won't back down. Even if the City Hunter saves his life, his strong sense of justice won't allow him to give up....that and his father's situation.

On another note my mom, who's new to kdrama, started watching CH yesterday. And when she saw Lee Min Ho, she was like 'Wowwww...he's cuuuu~uuuute!!" lol. Get in line Mother dearest.

i love the small details of this drama - like i was wondering where jinpyo got that newspaper article to show mom when he told her yoonsung was dead (at the time i was thought maybe he just did some rally fast researching). now i know - it was the real John Lee who died and yoonsung bought his identity.
Also who else thought the parents in texas probably shouldve not told youngju that stuff.

oh wow.... now that i have read this, i can't wait to go home and watch the subbed episode. i think this is the only drama that i have had the patience to watch online and wait very anxiously every week for. i love how LMH is portraying his role here. he carried BOF since (just my opinion) not a lot of the actors there can act and he was the only F4 who really did look like his role (kim bum is a good actor, however he looks too baby faced to be a lady killer)... anyway, i have digressed, i was going to say that i liked him somewhat in BOF, i enjoyed Personal Taste because of him as well, but this is the first time that i was totally floored by how he has portrayed a character. he is showing the right mix of being such a bad-ass city hunter and being such an adorable guy... i think i am as torn as he is... :-)

I love that Ajusshi immediately turns off the TV when Yoon-sung comes home, so that he won’t be caught in the act of home shopping. At least he knows it’s an addiction?

I was also doing that. I will open many windows and when my husband will check on what I am doing I will immediately click the windows and pretend that I am seriously doing my work in school. At least I know that I am addicted to CITY HUNTER.

hehe...so funny to read how in love you are with CH ;)

well, take comfort that you are not alone in doing some of the zaniest stuff for the sake of that love... ;)

its like the saying - its better to have loved and loved well and lost, rather than never having loved (or be loved) at all... ;)

my own experience with my hubby is so different - he would sit with me and watch CH with me because according to him, he can't stand watching other programmes on another tv set in our study, when i am watching CH on the tv set in the living room, laughing and squeeing every few minutes... hehe....my hubby is just the sweetest...hehehe... ;)

Hahaha! Us, our addiction and our hubbys. :) Since it's only started here, hubby ask me how many episodes are there and told him 20 = 10 weeks. And he said that means he's going to hear about City Hunter for another 8 weeks. YUP! So, now he claims to be the City Hunter. Read my reply 20.2.

We watch the first part of it and than just change channels to watch his programmes. I've already seen it and there are repeats later on. So it's ok. :) If I'm watching the repeat in the morning, he'll be wanting to watch the ending and he'll be late for work. :D

@ Debie... you could just talk non-stop about how cool the CH is, that might pique his curiousity. Show him an episode with all the action scenes and than introduce LMH as the actor. I talked about CH and was watching BOF, too, and now hubby is hooked. hehehe... He's even watching other (not so famous) dramas with me. :)

thanks for the recap

4 episodes after tonight its sad

keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending

YS is doing a good job at juggling all his relationships (with his mom, with jin pyo, with ajussi, with nana,) while laying the ground work for the next "revenge" and the prosecutor hot on his heels...

I'm sad for character too, but I don't see how she can be use right now in the story. Unless they make a twist and SH end up being Target 4 daughter, I really don't see how her character could possibly be included in the plot at the moment. Maybe she is a North Korean spy and her father was the original culprit who did the bombing in 1983. Then maybe at the end, there could be a face-off between all these young people.

“Yoon-sung’s face lights up like a Christmas tree (aw)”

Soooo TRUE and soooo funnnny!!!

...

“Ajusshi: “Die? Why would I die? And leave the home shopping network? There’s so much more I have to buy!” Hahahaha. Leave it to Shik-joong to fight death to shop another day.”

LOL!!!

...

“How much do I love that in regular life, Nana’s the hulk and Yoon-sung’s the prissy one?”

I second you on that!!! ;)

...

“Oh man, that ring’s gonna be the source of my TEARS, isn’t it? It’s just perfectly rife for a tragic twist—Mom’s ring for Nana. Aaaaaaauuuugh. Why’d ya have to do it, Mom?”

YUP!!! Foreshadowing of a tragedy??? aarrgggghhhh…

...

“Nana turns to Yoon-sung expectantly, but he shuts down the idea right away. “If I don’t finish this, I’ll never be able to live like a normal person.” Turns out you’re not that different from Daddy yourself.”

For perhaps the first time, I might have to disagree with you, GF, about YS not being different from Daddy…I think for what he feel compelled to do, his motivation, methodology and execution set him apart from his Daddy’s - the former a heartfelt-justice-seeking one, the latter a heartless-revenge-seeking one...imho... ;)

...

“Did you ever think that maybe doing this is what makes it impossible to ever live normally? It’s sweet that you think seeing this through means you can walk away cleanly, but though Jin-pyo’s perspective is darker, it’s probably more realistic, truth be told.”

But I have to agree with you on the above – YS could still choose a different path…it remains to be seen which path he will remain on till the end…and the kind of ending it will mean for CH and for everyone in it...

...

“He barks at her to stay out of it, accidentally knocking the picture to the ground. The glass shatters, and now there’s a giant rift between them in the photo.”

The rift-of-a-tragedy-to-come??? *shivers*

---

I totally agree with the battle between YS and YJ. Exceedingly interesting to watch its progression and how it will all play out – a win-win, a win-lose, a lose-win or a lose-lose affair???
Looking forward to it with a heavy heart…

...

“I was ecstatic to have some down time for Yoon-sung with his personal relationships in this episode, despite the fact that he continues to be a Noble Idiot Extraordinaire by refusing to admit how much he loves Nana.

I could pretty much kill Mom for giving him that ring, let alone telling Nana about it (grar), because now it’s just going to hang there, in the balance, taunting us with its unfulfilled potential as a trinket o’ love.”

FAMOUS LAST WORDS OF RECAP, GF!!!
Prophetic perhaps???

Waiting for the revelation with erratic heart palpitations, blood pressure at an all time high and overall zombie-like existence...aaarrrggghhh...

seriously, i love their relationship, because they truly care about each other and they are honest and open about it. ahjussi is the only one from whom yoo sung doesn't hide when he's ill or sad, he will defend him with his life, and ahjussi is constantly trying to take care of yoon sung and understands his moods. and it was awesome that nana actually acknowledeges their love hahaha :)

@tuqaz ;)

oh, sorry to hear about your daughter's condition, but sooo proud of her for being such a trouper!!! so brave!!! must be her superior genes - from mum and dad ;)

another reason why i love CH and LMH so much - being the example for little girls to follow to be strong and brave!!! how wonderful is that? ;)

0

thanks, kdl... I think she's going to be KDrama addict like me! She's already been inspired by Eun Chan (Coffee Prince) to do a flying kick in Taekwondo, and she saw Nana throwing Yoon-sung in Judo, she was in awe and ask "Mom, girls can do that?". I said, yes and she turn to her brother and said, "You're bigger than I am, and I will do that to you if you tease me again." Hahaha!! Right now, she just wants to get well, so she can take her test to get her yellow belt and that's in 2 weeks time.

0

Oh my, now I'm utterly so jealous! I want a son like the City Hunter! Oh gods! Help me! I want it sooooo BAD.

but take heart sweetie, you will NOT regret it...as opposed to caving in and spending the precious time you have now on CH and not your books, and if the results are not to your liking, you may HATE CH and LMH for being the cause, justified or otherwise... ;)

now i would hate for you to hate CH and LMH... ;)
'cause i know how MUCH you love them, right? ;)

you can do it, dear!! ;)

0

@kdl
thanx for those lovely words.

but by the time my exams get over, CH would have finished airing and i would miss this sweet chit-chat!
hope i would find another good one after CH. and we can all meet there.

i was really looking forward to Hooray For Love to watch Jae Hee from Delightful Girl Choon Hyang, my favourite drama. (hmm..whether that would remain the same again, Im not sure)
Jae Hee wasn't exactly a hottie, but was sooo good an actor
Now that he's hurt and has pulled out, im not sure about what i wud watch next.

@newbie ;)

you are most welcome, sweetie! ;)

and definitely - let's continue with our wonderful exchanges even after CH wraps up ;)

Outside of the fact that ~ I LOVE THIS SERIES ~

I also love that people here are trying to figure
out future episode plot twists. So here's mine:

* When...MOST OF US...go to a hospital in order
to kill a patient and two innocent cops :)
(like the 2nd bad guy, I think it was) very few
of us will wear the incorrect fashion statement
of a CLEAN, WHITE LAB COAT.......Things will
get kind of sloppy. Suppose it turns out that
the evil dad PLANNED to do something evil to
the guy who purchased the defective boots,
but the MORE EVIL henchman of the 4th bad
guy got there first? (He's the one who tells
his creepy guy to kill everybody.) Huh? Maybe?

*In other news, WHEN will the poor prosecuter
give the bankbook back to LMH's mom and tell
her that it was found in his evil dad's jacket
at the time of his fall from the overpass?

*Does anybody know the make and model of
the car that LMH had that horrendous accident in?
That car did EXACTLY what it was designed to do.
It took the "dead-stop-hit" (pardon the expression)
and kept the passenger area pretty much intact.
The fact that the 2 guys in that car walked away
from it without major injuries is close to a miracle.
So what's the name of the car? Anybody know?

* And finally................

"Boys Over Flowers" was broadcast two years ago.
Other than my favorite scene of the ducks in the
swimming pool, ha, ha, my next favorite scene
was the "zoo date." I fell instantly in love with
that beautiful little boy, who has the distinction
of being the only person in BoF who made Jun-pyo
jealous, but DID NOT get beaten up by him. :)
So now it's two years after BoF, and we have
the scene with a slightly older little boy who has
the jar of coins, who's mom is ill in the hospital.
According to the http://www.viki.com translators,
he says to LMH...."I don't like you, you're mean."
LMH, great actor that he is, stops looking mean
- for a second - laughs- and then goes back to
looking mean. So is that the same little sweetie
pie from the "zoo date" or not? I betcha that LMH
recommended him for the role. :)

I've just watched Episode #16, without
English subtitles, and I think that I'm right
about the little boy with the coins being
the little-er boy from the "BoF zoo date." :)
And this CAN'T be a spoiler to anyone who's
watched each episode of City Hunter get
progressivly better and better as each
episode is broadcast:

1. #16 is a freakin' rollercoaster.
and............
2. Your brains are gonna' fall out.

but then again, its not just a problem plaguing CH...

over at Miss Ripley, the news given by JB in DB, there seem to be problems with the issue of under-utilising the actors and actresses...a big deal over there...
wonder how it will all be resolved...

I agree. As much as I love LMH and want to see him in the US, I don't think he should take it. Hollywood does not have any good movie script for an Asian actor yet. They usually give them stereotypical role with no depth in the character. I don't want LMH to end up like that. I rather he stick to the Korean industry and do a movie there. Maybe he can play a dark character and I would personally love to see him show his darker side.

@venus @maymay, i agree with both of you ladies...

As much I love to have our Min Ho shine his spark internationally, I don't want him to suffer the same fate as all the others who rushed into Hollywood. Hollywood is one BIG BUSINESS and IT'S A JUNGLE out there.

I'm a fan of Terence Chang, I mean most of HIS FILMS are my ALL TIME FAVORITE. It would be really good for Min-Ho to be trained by a PD such as HIM. But the thing is, Min-Ho needs to shine fully first in KOREA. KOREA's business is I think much better than in Hollywood.

And besideS, Min-Ho will get his BREAK WHEN IT'S TIME FOR HIS BREAK.

And when that time comes, I doubt that SOMEONE WILL DOUBT HIS ABILITY AS AN A-LIST ACTOR..

you're right about the hollywood jungle Smashingalou. i don't think hallyu jungle is any easier to survive, if anything it seems more demanding.

sometimes you gotta grab that brass ring when it's handed to you. how many actors pass up opportunities only to find that it could have been their breakthrough role. besides a PD of Terence Chang's caliber doesn't just drop in on anybody. he see's something in LMH, and this is a great opportunity for him.

TC could be approaching LMH to do a Korean/foreign movie that would be marketed in the US such as "House of Flying Daggers", "Red Cliff", "Hero", and "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon".

I say... if the offer is good... take it!

0

you're right there celexa..

I agree that Terence Chang type is not someone who can be pleased easily. That's why so ecstatic when he noticed LMH and even went all the way to Korea.

It would have been really lovely if he can REALLY GIVE OUR LMH a good project and hone his acting. I think no one will protest if that's the case...in return Terence Chang will be loved even more by us crazy LMH girls. :)

Maybe my hesitation comes from worrying about Min-Ho too much. :( If ever he really did go to HOLLYWOOD, I'd really wish the best for HIM!!

GF, YOU and the COOLNESS OF YOU!!! Thank you so much for this recap!!!

It's a PEACEFUL, PEACEFUL WORLD FOR CH ON THIS EPISODE. And to echo GF,

"Could the City Hunter maybe just take a wee break from saving the world so that he can focus on maintaining his cover? My blood pressure would surely appreciate it."

Oh were same in mind, GF, good thing CH is taking that kitkat break to ensure our BPs will be back to normal. Would just wonder if those blood-pressure-elevated-events will continue?! I don't think any CH fans will be here to comment as we will all be unconsciously trying to get back to the world :)

But, however PEACEFUL this episode maybe, IT'S FULL OF HEAVY LOADED PLOT CONTENT. Ok SHOW, however you do it, whether it's a blood-rising-scenes or a heart-touching-moments or even a really-funny-put-a-smile-on-my-face-all-day scenes, YOU CAN PULL IT OFF AWESOMELY!!!

I have a lot of personal, PERSONAL FAVORITE SCENES from this episode. Not sure why, but this episode has that touch-on-my-heart! Surely something not a lot of ACTION drama can actually pull off. I just adore CH TOTALLY..*hugs*

And LMH, you can't get any MANLY,are you now?!

You're already HOT enough with those HOT ACTION SCENES, how can you BE EVEN HOTTER WITH THOSE I-SWEAR-IT-TWINGE-MY-HEART scenes?!! And I am so ADORING IT.

wow, this ep was pretty calm but it really turned up the dial of intrigue by the end. I was so sad YS when he sat there in the street under that light. But I have to admit, I'm loving young ju's smartypantsness. I want him to know everything and find out his decision.

But my FAV scene in this episode was the Ahjusshi wifey spat. I had tears in my eyes from laughter and had to rewind it.

also, ys's gold cool-hero outfit reminds me of one he wore in the mv for cass beer.

he looks beautiful even in agony.

This scene touched me because I was thinking, no one is interested in checking to see if the human being on the ground is okay dressed in his fancy, clean clothes?!?!?! Time passes by and no one cares exc for KNN.

I get emotional thinking about this poor YS character. This task was never his to carry out methinks.

That scene with YS trying to breath and being helpless by himself really tug my heart. It's so sad because that's what his secret hero life is like. He tries so hard to do the right think for the people, but when he is vulnerable and need help, no one is by his side. The people passing by just ignore him and let him be. So sad and I really feel YS loneliness then.

Some of you have been saying that this episode needed more action, and while I agree, I also appreciate the "downtime". This drama is more about the action; it's also about the human behind it, and Yoon-sung really needs some moments to be human, LOL. Though while I feel his feeling for Nana are justified (with the whole pushing away), I also feel like it was a little dragged out. T_T

On another note, I freaking LOVE the chemistry between Sae-hee and Young-ju. And I love seeing Young-ju being "human" as well, since there's obviously more to him than the robotic prosecutor. I really wish Sae-hee's character was more apparent...

Other than that, I'm glad there was a preview for episode 16 attached to the end of this episode. That means no more live-shooting! At least, somewhat. Meaning that the later episodes will be of higher quality. I thought the peak of this drama so far was around episodes 7-11, and I hope that excitement and suspense can come back.

Lastly, I appreciate Nana's cuteness, because it lightens up the whole drama. Sure, Yoon-sung and Sae-hee together gives a more mature feeling, but then it would be mature/dark all-around, and I do appreciate cuteness, especially from Shik-joong and Nana. And isn't it awesome to have a cute Hulk? XD

But yeah, despite the cuteness, I still love action. It seems like episode 16 was happily deliver on that, judging from the preview. :)

Thanks for the recap! I love City Hunter, best k-drama I've seen so far. :)

SMASH: So true, yes CH may have been deemed as a ACTION drama now but CH may also be about the CITY HUNTER itself. His HUMAN SELF..Better yet said, he really need these type of moments...

SMASH: :) haha! This is what I keep on saying on my YT comment. NN's cuteness, I like it. No matter how, SHE'S YS BEAR, SHE IS YS'S NN. And that's why I love her, SHE'S the COLOR in YS/CH's life covered in GRAY!

further random rambling- i was at a family dinner yesterday and found out my bro's girlfriend and my aunt totally have Lee Min Ho crushes too & to the horror of all the males at the table we did our gleeful spazz out about him & CH then my aunt had to put a damper on it when she said she knows a gay hairdresser who looks soooo much like our Prince of Gorgeousness argh! they're either unobtainable in this lifetime or gay :(

10. Re-watch both of this weeks episode back to back...

That basically my kdrama life....I haven't been this addictive to a drama since YAB days...and I'm loving the thrill of this ride.... :P :D

I LOVEEE LOVEEE this episode sooo much..this has been the most emotional charge episode of this drama...I love the son/mom moment....the most emotional scene was when YS sang to him, I swear my tears were coming out....I love how the PD was able to convey the sorrow, the hope, the happiness in that scene...

YS and Ajussi is just a crack!!! I mean those two have more chemistry that YS and NN....I mean I was almost in tears of laughter with the whole "hubby/wife" dispute OMG YS "I can't live without you" Ajussi "You have changed"...LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO and NN faced was PRICELESS....that moment was Epic...

Another great awesome moment was between SH and JY...JY is losing his way in his obsession with CH and it was great to see that JY knows it YJ "I have become a Island" soooo true...but I love how SH knows him so well to know that when he is hell bent on something he won't give up....hence their marriage didn't work...yet she still cares for me....

Show how can u cram so many emotions u leave me breathless every time....and ep 16 is even better....can't wait for recaps....

i am so pissed right now, I love YS character but hes making me so mad at this point hes always pushing Nana away every episodes, but hes the one who's leading her on showing her that he loves her and stuff like that its been going on continuously, Nana confesses he pushes her away even in episode 16 he confesses but tells her to find another man like wth seriously i get it your doing this for her but your hurting her dude and its no good. I am just pointing out when will this end between them because there are only 4 episodes left and i dnt want there romance to have a bitter ending and regrets and i am kind of tired of YS being mean to Nana even though shes doing so much for him and accepts him, and plus i thought he was going to change after she took a bullet for him but guess not hes still acting same.

marin, you have voiced EXACTLY what I was feeling after watching ep 16. This was the most FRUSTRATING episode yet, and had me almost pulling my hair out in anger at the writers for making YS act this way ONCE AGAIN. It is so incredibly stupid given everything they have been through, and it just makes me wonder when the angst with this couple will stop?!

I'm really glad I'm not the only one feeling this way, and I just have to say that these writers had better move past this 'push the one you love away' crap, so we can focus on the actual plot!

I didn't mind at first but its been going on continuously so i am feeling frustrated, esp when he pushes her away that song goodbye appears every time like didn't this happen before????, it feels like there will not be any hope towards them and he will keep on doing this until shes dead =(. I really don't get it why is he being so messed up to her all the time, didn't she clearly explain shes okay with it, and they been through so much too. Maybe Kim Nana has to tell him shes moving on or try to make him jealous maybe it will wake him up idk lol. i am just tired of their bitter relationship *sigh*

The conversation between YJ and the President over soju has much wisdom. It's wise and yet so blatantly proving that great weaknesses after all do not choose positions.

That even the HIGHEST MAN IN POSITION CAN BE AS COWARD as an ordinary man. Geez, it's impressive how they so simply put it.

The stolen lunch box, the everyone-closed-eyes-then-admit part, the longer-it-lingers and the timing, so beautifully delivered and written. I am a sucker for idiomatic lines such as that and for that I say, you had me clutch my heart..

I've always liked the President character since Ep 1. He was the one who has shown remorse in solidarity and yet still at the same time, has been afraid for the longest time. Yes, he may have some-dirt-on-the-mud which we may have yet to find out. But I'd say he sure is the cleanest out of the council-of-five. We have yet to know and we will know about HIM.

How the event will unfold once he's CH target will be interesting? Will be VERY INTERESTING...hmmm

Ok. I'm sorry. It's just that I seriously hate that he-who-must-not-be-named. I'm just wondering why his name came up next to the UBER-LMHOT. Doesn't make sense. At ALL.

Y'know, the cliffhanger thingy at the beginning kinda didn't make sense to me. How was Yoon-sung saving Young-ju from the gas supposed to risk revealing YS as the City Hunter? I mean, it could have been Yoon Sung as, well, Yoon Sung coming to the rescue. If there was a question as to why he was there in the first place, he could have come up with some excuse like he had come to tell the prosecutor to stop bothering him and that's when he found YJ in the gassed up car.

After watching epi 16. What?! Dude come on give her a break. You told her you like and decidied to push her away? It would've been better he didn't say anything. And it's tiring when he does that, he's been leading her to hold on but then, he would turn to this monster again!

so true i don't know why people aren't really discussing about him and Nana i mean doesn't it frustrate people that hes doing the same routine over again ,keeps pushing her away and then leading her on. I feel really bad for Kim Nana hes being really messed up. although i love YS, I am just annoyed with his behavior right now towards Nana.

@funnygirl and @Marin......

I totally understand both of your frustration about YS and NN situation....but in the world of superheroes the hero has to always sacrifice his deepest longing for the better good or mission....I mean we see this with Superman, Spiderman, and Batman....emotional conflict is the one struggle all heroes suffer....and YS is finally going through that notion, he needs to stay focused and finished what he started he can't throwing the towel and if that means leaving NN, Mom, Ajussi behind he will... that the hero complex leaving yourself behind for the greater good of humanity.....

@Venus

I agree with you. Even though I feel bad for Nana, I understand why YS is doing this. I also notice that not only with Nana, YS is also keeping ajusshi out of any involvement with his City Hunter stuff. He also not willing to tell his mother about his secret life. It seems YS is trying to keep them all out of trouble. I think after ajusshi car accident and his own near death experience in episode 15, YS finally realize that he might not survive this revenge game like he originally thought. Why give Nana false hope if he will not survive at the end? I know this is cruel to Nana but I understand his decision. Just look at Spiderman and Mary Jane, Spiderman pretty much did the same thing as YS.

A HERO'S STRENGTH IS JUST LIKE EVERYONE'S ELSE'S STRENGTH AND YET IT'S SOMETHING HE DOESN'T HAVE THE LUXURY TO HAVE, LOVE...

You know for some epic reason, YS and NN's relationship has been for a few episodes now, a rocking boat, about to fall off, about to sink. And yet, both are willing to stay on that boat. Both are unwilling to let go. But then one has to cast the anchor and the one who cast it has to leave the boat.

Which makes it all the more dismal for YS's journey. For every HERO's journey. Nothing is TORMENTING ENOUGH TO PUSH AWAY YOU'RE ONLY STRENGTH AND WILL TO GO ON. Which makes every hero IRRATIONAL.

(Oh I don't think I'm making sense with my words, but CH has too much scheme so skillfully twisted that I am losing my senses :( )

@smashingalou!!! WOW!!! just WOW!!! ;)

i can't even begin to express how awesome your words are!!! ;)

and don't worry abt not making sense because you make perfect sense to me and I am already seriously wondering if i have lost my marbles watching how LOVELY LMH is in every single scene he is in...hahaha...

i totally understand what your saying and why YS is doing this but every episode is him pushing her away lol like didn't he already do this before!! and he should totally avoid her if he wants to make a sacrifice even though its difficult and Nana did say that her feelings are hers alone and he doesn't have to reciprocate, if he doesn't want to. but i am just confused about why he keeps repeating the same thing. it would be better if he didn't say anything

Can we safely conclude now that JP really did like KH?

The hospital scene with the music and all and JP looking worried and caring on KH condition, was that a give-away that HE REALLY LIKE KH?

Man, just thinking about it makes my heart and head aches. All the anticipation about JP, MY, KH and the president, it's driving me crazy..It's enough for my body to burst..

This daddy issue is driving everyone crazy.

If YS is really the President son and JP took him as a baby knowing that fact, then JP is really carrying out the cruelest revenge like he avowed in episode 1. Nothing is crueler than using the son to punish his father. Just look at YJ and his dad. Poor YS, if this is the truth, then he is the saddest character I've ever encountered. His life is ruined since he was a child for a crime he did not commit.

This will probably be one of the ending comments for this particular thread - it's almost time for the ep.16 recap to come up.

It's frustrating to see YS in the "Noble Idiot" mode, particularly when NaNa gives him an out in their last scene together and he refuses to take it, walking away crying (in that manly way of his) while NaNa sobs.

But, I understand it from the direction the story is taking now. NaNa has to be separated from YS. His father is the President, Nana is now assigned to guard him, the President is the final target and JP is determined to get the ultimate revenge by having YS kill his own father.

So, as close as I can figure, the last episode will have YS, JP, Nana, the President and probably Mr. Prosecuter in the ultimate end game.

Cynthia ....

I agree with you I love how the writers are taking us to the climax of the story...and the showdown is going to be epic..I hope we get a solid resolution in this awesome CH journey....

btw. the end of ep.16 left me BREATHLESS and going %&%^&^.....

I agree. What I find really fascinating is that our lonely, starved-for-love YS will find that he has a whole community of people around him, once he discovers who his father really is, - his mother, the President (if he lives) and his family, his NaNa and her father (if he lives) and his soulmate, Ajusshi :)

All that family and love.
If the writer allows it.
Hope springs eternal!
