Park Shin-hye learns the gayageum

A few more stills from upcoming campus music drama You’ve Fallen For Me (aka Heartstrings) show lead actress Park Shin-hye practicing the gayageum, a traditional twelve-stringed Korean instrument that her character majors in at the performing arts college. Despite not having to actually play the music for the drama herself, Park is determined to learn the instrument for her character, who grew up learning the gayageum from her grandfather, and knows it like the back of her hand.
She’s reportedly been taking lessons since being cast for the role, and has even developed calluses on her fingers from practicing. (The gayageum is played like a sitting guitar of sorts — you hold down notes with the left hand and pluck/vibrate the strings with the right hand.) I love actors who really put serious effort into their roles, and I’m just oddly proud of Park Shin-hye for taking the time to learn something that she really otherwise has no use for. It makes her even more endearing (not that she needed any help in that department).
She said, “Kyu-won is a character who was influenced by her grandfather and grew up with the gayageum, as one. That Kyu-won meets Lee Shin (Jung Yon-hwa) and Kim Suk-hyun (Song Chang-eui) and she goes through a period of falling down and hitting up against walls, in order to realize her true dreams and really grow — I want to portray this side of her beautifully.”
Fellow castmate Song Chang-eui has also taken to his role, which is a lot closer to his real-life experience acting on the stage in both musical and traditional theater. Song said, “Kim Suk-hyun is both sincere and playful, which is actually a lot like me in real life, so I feel affection for this character.” He plays a theater director who will direct the university’s 100th anniversary showcase, and in helping these young people discover their dreams, he will rediscover his own as well.
You’ve Fallen for Me premieres June 29 on MBC, following Best Love.

I love Park Shin-hye's dedication. Also, I like her looks here than in Cyrano. But I loved that movie too coz of the cast.
Currently watching ep.9 of BL. Ah, the best part for me was Seung-gi's cameo. Epic. =) Waiting for GF/JB's recaps on it and for CH too. ;)

She's so cute, and has a nice image...i think she`s very outgoing and easy to be with girl...and she's very hardworking and try her best to portray her characters. I adore her and YES she`s endearing, i find it so sad when people critizice her out of nowhere. Simply, this girl is perfect, i'm not homo just envious :)

i love this girl..truly talented and so dedicated to her craft..i also like her warm and friendly personality...so adorable and endearing, that's why she has lots of friends...there are others who i think are envious/jealous of her because she's got many male friends but that's her true persona...she really is a true friend, very natural....good luck on her upcoming dramas this month...first, hayate in Taiwan on june 19, then this drama, Hearstrings with fellow AN jell bandmate YH...good luck and may god bless you more...

and her family has musical background so learning the gagayeum is pretty cool!
i read she also have calluses now on her fingers because of her hard work to learn this...

Park Shin Hye's new kdrama is interesting and will definitely watch. Her passion, commitment and attitude is commendable/admirable. I too love actors/actresses who really put serious effort into their roles. She's beautiful and very endearing, friendly person.

Just bc they both played boys, it doesnt mean she copy any one. Not saying, PSH role wasnt a tomboy like YH's.

please, if you have nothing good to say about PSH, please stay away from this article...you are so rude and is creating fan war...shinhye is not using anybody to gain fame..she is a multi talented actress even at a young age and i believe that she is shining on her own...she has tons of international fans too and has a taiwanese drama coming up...it hurts me when you say bad remarks against her as she is a very kind-hearted and friendly girl...

Yes we love Both but we have two eyes to know who PSH and YEH what is the problem that PSH to be Fan to any actresses you Know you are the worest fan for YEH and you will worse her image as good hearted actress and as fan of PSH I will tell she will gain her popularity step by step and hard working not as YEH but as PSH.

This comment's too late, I know but since I love, love, LOVE Shin Hye, I can't keep myself from doing this. :D I admit I only got to appreciate her from her role in You're Beautiful but eversince, I have been checking out on her. She is dedicated to her job so much that I admire her even more than I did before. No wonder she gets a lot of blessings including getting to work with the hottest Korean actors (Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyun Joong and of course, Jang Geun Suk) even just in CFs. Hope this drama will be a success. :)
