Woori takes on Park Shin-hye as a rival
by javabeans
MBC’s You’ve Fallen For Me (aka Festival, aka Choose Your Own Title) has finished its main casting with the addition of Woori (Crime Squad, Supermom), which means she’ll face off against heroine Park Shin-hye in claiming the affections of the hero (Jung Yong-hwa).
Woori’s character has been in love with Jung Yong-hwa since high school, while being in the receiving end of idol-actor Kang Min-hyuk’s (It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl) affections. Looks like she’s not the gracious kind of second lead; she’s described as the type to heap curses on our heroine’s head. I look forward to watching how she tries to thwart their twoo wuv, to no avail. (It’s a K-drama; that much is a given, no?)
I’ve been approaching this drama with wariness, because I just haven’t had a lot of faith in its cast, even with the inclusion of Song Chang-eui. I haven’t written them off, either, seeing as how Dream High was able to make the most of a green, idol-laden cast of acting newbies — but on the flipside, It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl is an example of the pitfalls of that same scenario. But I’d also forgotten that this is the work of PD Pyo Min-soo, who has certainly proven he can put out popular product (Full House), as well as more introspective work (Insoon Is Pretty, The World They Live In). He also melded comedy with quirk in last year’s Coffee House.
PD Pyo expressed his confidence in Woori, saying, “She resembles [respected and now-retired actress] Shim Eun-ha” …which I might feel better about had Shim not sucked in her newbie days. (She’s one of Korea’s favorite leading actresses, even years after her retirement, and really came into her talent later on — but have you seen Last Match? 1.5? M? Green, green, green. Beautiful, but totally awkward. If you’d have said she’d grow into a top star lauded for her acting back then, I’d have said you were betting on the wrong horse.)
You’ve Fallen For Me is similar to Dream High and What’s Up in that it’s set against a performing arts school backdrop, featuring aspiring singers and performers. It premieres June 29.

I have to say, the only reason this drama intrigues me is that the lead couple is an alternate version of You're Beautiful. As for the theme, I think Dream High has set the bar pretty high, idol actors and all. Still, I'll check out the first few episodes with low expectations.

I agree. Dream High has really set the bar high. And most of it may have attributed to its great writing.
But I'm kind of tired of hearing all these Dream High comparisons with dramas related to music and dance. =/
I'm only drawn by the lead couple as well. While I didn't mind Go Mi Nyeo ending up with any of the three guys, I certainly had hopes for Kang Shin Woo as well. Unfortunately, it seems that this time, Jung Yong Hwa will play a cold character instead of his previous warm type. *Sighhh* When he was warm and caring, he didn't get the girl. Now that he's cold and indifferent, THEN he gets the girl. The tropes of K-dramaland...

I think the only reason this upcoming drama is comepared to Dream High is because it's the only musical drama out there in Kdrama land. If there was another drama then the likelyhood it would be compared to DH would be less.
It's like comparing another muscial tv show to the US tv drama "Glee" if there was more then one theme muscial drama then that there is a option.
But i'm still looking foward to this because even with a new fresh cast they can surprise. And this cast isn't even as new as the one in DH. Both leads have stared in other dramas so they have some acting practice.

I loved loved LOVED Dream High but I have to disagree about the show setting the bar high. It's just that the expectations were really so low that when it turned out to be decent (though not a masterpiece) those who watched were quite blown away.

This is the second article where you've stated "its okay daddy's girl" was an idol drama (with a negative connotation). However, Both the leads in that drama were not idol stars. Donghae and that guy from CN blue were both minor characters. Lee Hee Jin is hardly an "idol" star. This is especially confusing since you consider this drama "bad", but that you couldn't stop watching because of the likable characters (played by idols/non-idols...no?)

I think she's referring to the cast of Daddy's girl as being a newbie cast that has idols.

she played a pretty creepy child psychopath in Crime Squad....which was coincidently also the last episode I saw of that one....idk if she's any good though.....she had a blank face on a lot which kinda worked 'cuz of the whole murderer thing and seemed convincingly nice in the beginning...so I guess maybe?

I didn't have my glasses on when I first saw the post and got excited. I thought she was song hye kyo. I guess there's a lot of celebrity look-alike in the k-world. It would be awesome to put these separated-by-birth individuals in one show. Imagine the confusion or better yet the deep wonderment.haha!

I'm excited for another shin hye drama. sounds interesting even if its trendy and cliche.
however, the one thing that ruins everything is...the casting of yong hwa. this guys acting in YAB was soooooooooooo bad. actually i dont know if bad is the right word. it's like...he wasn't even trying to act. it could very well have been a robot
i've seen lots of interviews and behind the scenes footages of him...where other actors are really outgoing and funny and full of personality, Jung Hwa is just.......same ol' Shin Woo aka dangerously boring with zero personality, he also seems to be extremely shy, combine this with the fact that he has no acting experience whatsoever (hence he's just his same old self even when he "acts") makes me question the sanity of whoever casted him in this. I also must applaud them for having so much guts. such a huge leap of faith....

Really? SHW drama was really THAT bad? I though for a newbe he did an ok job. Not saying he was great but i give him effort.
As for BTS i don't take those too seriously. not every actor is funny or likes to act funny when the camera isn't rolling. It all depends on the person besides i think he was just new and wanted to do a good job so he was spent most of his energy with his script and totally into his work. Also BTS doesn't capture every moment behind the scenes (even if it did we only see clips of it) so maybe they didn't catch him acting funny or they did but just didn't air it.

As much as I hate Yonghwa's acting, I do have to say that I've watched a lot of interviews & behind the scenes footage of him and I don't think he's boring. Yes, in the BTS of You're Beautiful he was not that fun, I think mainly because he hadn't debuted properly in Korea yet & was very much a no name rookie. However, if you watch anything else AFTER debuting with CNBLUE, I can vouch that he's probably the most interesting and fun out of all the boys in the group & he's very fun WITHOUT them too.

Are your "lots of interviews and behind the scenes footages" restricted to the YAB stuff? Because that's what it sounds like, and if you're basing your entire opinion of his personality on THAT, it's honestly pretty ridiculous. It's like saying someone's quiet after you've walked past them once at school and happened to over hear a conversation they had with their teacher or something.
I'm not a huge C.N. Blue fan so I haven't gone out of my way to look up his variety show appearances or interviews, but I've seen him on Happy Together 3 and Strong Heart, where he was anything but quiet.

I agree. I don't know about Jung Yong Hwa's personality, but I too didn't like him in YAB. When I think of him, only an expression-less face comes to mind. So I'm a little (very) scared.
But I'll give it a go because of Park Shin Hye ^^

Now that I think about it. It kind of reminds me of the fox hunter in Gumiho (No Min Woo I think?) I saw him in an episode of Strong Heart and he was very quiet and the only time he talked it was about his charity activities. But then I saw him in Rock, rock, rock, and I saw him in a totally different light (he seemed... alive O_O) ^^ So maybe the same thing will happen?

I think every "goguma couple fan" of We Got Married will disagree with you. After more than a year of virtual marriage to SNSD's Seohyun, Yonghwa is far from Shinwoo's personality.
He was such a prankster and even earned the nickname "Yong choding" meaning childish.
And there are also a BTS from YAB with Hongki and Shin Hye talking about Yonghwa. (I think they were in the motorcycle scene where Jeremy is trying to cheer Mi Nam up) They said that everytime Yonghwa tries to fool around the set, they will told him off... "You are Shinwoo". And thus Yonghwa will get sulky.
Also, give the guy a chance. YAB is his Korean debut. What do you expect, right? It was even before his debut as part of CNBlue. So I think he does fairly well in YAB.
I also have fears for the new drama though. Its opposite your fear. I fear that because he will again portray a character opposite his real personality, he may have a hard time with it.

I love CNBLUE and Yonghwa, but in terms of his acting, I have to say that yes, Yonghwa REALLY needs improvement. He was ok for a newbie but not that great. I think he'll work hard to learn from his seniors in this drama.. I really hope he improves his acting. I'm not blind. But I DEFINITELY disagree for whoever you are who said that Yonghwa is boring person in real life. He is the most talkative, the most playful and the most mischievous member in CNBLUE. He's REALLY different from Shinwoo in real life. In YAB, like everyone said, he was no one, CNBLUE hasn't even debut yet. But after debut, you can tell that he's really fun and playful in real life. He's a bit childish, always jokes around. So for a newbie whose personality was far from his character, he did an ok job in YAB. Just ok, though. Once again I say this, Yonghwa's real personality is totally different from that Shinwoo hyung. I'm sorry if my English was wrong.
