Random, thy name is City Hunter

More stills are out for City Hunter and, true to this drama’s promotional trajectory so far, they manage to clear up very little of my confusion about what the heck this show is actually about.

The thing is, tons of dramas are segmented into different parts — there’s a backstory for the hero, a backstory for the heroine, their present situations, and maybe even a secret identity. The problem with City Hunter is that the production hasn’t made much of an effort to clarify what goes where, so I’m left scratching my head. For instance, all of the photos in this post were released in the past several days. You’d think there’d be some organization to the blitz of images, but no, not really.

Example: Obviously our heroine, Park Min-young — judo artist, bodyguard — has a past. She apparently attended high school at some point.

And our hero, Lee Min-ho, is somehow involved in the watching of the president’s daughter (Gu Hara):

He apparently also likes to party. And gets hit on by women ten years older than him. Sure, why not?

You can’t be a “City Hunter” without the sharp city wardrobe, right?

But…there’s also a danger element!

People die, things explode…

And then the hero and heroine go on playful dates in the park?

So really, my one takeaway from all this is: Mm, Lee Min-ho sure is hot:

I think you successfully reached the conclusion that they wanted you to -- that Lee Minho is hot -- maybe that's all the drama is about. :p

thanks jb

Wardrobe no. 7 he don't look macho in his walking, more like a s......

There is a big plot but it is not "edgey" like rough cut or "sharpest" to the extreme kind of kdrama, but very mild drama from the stills.

Lee Min Ho actually comes from a rich family and has a twin brother, the leader of a flower boy group in a prestigious private school. He and his twin were very close until the twin brother fell in love with an extremely annoying girl with a bad hairdo who couldn't speak a single sentence without screeching and grimacing. Finally one day, Min Ho couldn't take it anymore because the girl was driving him cuckoo. He packed his bags, said goodbye to his family, and became an undercover agent. He went to Thailand to do his training, but got involved in an accident (an explosion). He went into a coma, and his soul drifted out and occupied the body of Park, a high school student, who happened to be cycling past the hospital. He took control of her body and made her learn judo, karate, and all kinds of martial arts cos he was so bored....

You have so much talent, you can piece together a story with all the random pictures even though none of us understand what the drama is really about.

ONLY you Javabeans have that kind of skill. I dont think I'd ever be able to piece together something that looks confusing to actually make it somewhat sense.

Well only time will tell what the story will be about.

Thanks for posting! :D

I'm of the rare breed of girls that are both dramaholics and an actual fan of the anime of City Hunter. Yeah, count me in with those who've previously said that the more I see of this, the less I like it. Sure Lee Min Ho is smoking hot, I'd jump him in a minute. But I still dislike the way they're re imagining everything. They might as well have called it something else.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the re-caps and comments (if there are any, that is) are going to be more entertaining than the drama itself.

Oh Lee Min Ho, why are you so hot?

I guess we need to see the first episode then after that we can judge whether this drama worth to watch or not.Its my opinion, looking at the 10 minute preview it does look interesting with mystery surrounding Lee Min Ho real identity

Exactly my point! In my honest opinion, the preview does look interesting, not because LMH is hot but because the drama looks so mysterious. I'm looking forward for it to air!!

you know what will make him just a little manly.. they should shave his head..lol "joking".. and for God sake change his wardrobe.. what is he doing shooting a cover for some magazine and if you look at the wardrobe pics you will notice that he has the same pose in every pic... I'm so tired of all the boys in kdrama have to look cute and have to look good even when they face death etc. Even some one as Brad Pitt change his look from time to time... I know they will gave the fan something but if it is the same look every time what the point in doing it..

As a huge fan of City Hunter, I'm really disappointed that Tsukasa Hojo goes along with this tomfoolery! Yeah LMH is hot and everything but I'm past the age of watching a show just for the sake of hotness... I won't be watching this I'll wait for a Japanese live action...

HAHAHA I love the title of that post! I had the same impression when I saw the teaser (at the end of 49 Days' episodes): R.A.N.D.O.M. Well it won't really be an adaptation of City Hunter, they just kept the name. :( I'm already disappointed and it haven't even started.

But true, LMH is a hottie :D. Thanks for the stills javabeans ^^!

Lee Min Ho is sure hot but I'm already disappointed in the drama after seeing the photos. I don't recognize any characteristics of City Hunter, it feels like a whole different story. And this ward-robe sure doesn't fit city hunter.

Whoever says that it will stick close to the manga is WRONG! Since when Ryo Saeba puts on fashion show? Since when is he so indifferent when women hit on him? If my memory serves me right Saeba is in his thirties and has a very gloomy past. I don't have anything against LMH but they should have gone with a more mature lead actor. From the screen shots if feel like LMH is just there being PRETTY instead of being CHARISMATIC... Well I'm sure his fans won't be disappointed at all!

I think LMH looked too polished, not a strand of hair going out of place. Mess up that hair, wear normal casual clothes. Far too clinical for me.

What's worrying is that there is too much emphasis on how he looks that the essence of the drama will get lost.

What is his role in this drama exactly? a model, bodyguard, playboy?

I agree with #76 Christine.
There's WAY TOO MUCH emphasis on
LMH's clothes......pink pants; no socks, etc.
Is "City Hunter" an acting job, or another
modeling assignment?

The same way that "Personal Taste" was
a fashion show of outlandish jackets with
lapels from outer space, and too short pants,
clothes are supposed to fit the character......
not distract from the storyline. I remember
that during PT, LMH's architectural company
had lots of financial worries, and I kept
thinking that if he didn't spend a fortune
on the "outfit du jour" (wear it once, never
wear the same thing twice, and then throw
it away) he would have been able to easily
pay the salary of his employees, and not
have to worry about going bankrupt.

If this trend (possibly sponsored by Trugen?)
is responsible for this distracting fashion parade,
maybe LMH ought to give up the endorsement
money from them, and just concentrate (sp?)
on acting.....

And I had such high hopes for CH. :(

I don't have a problem with his different outfits. He does wear his clothes well. In 49 Days, the scheduler had different outfits each time and in Midas,NMW had different outfits each time as well, I do not hear complaints about that. The problem is the promoters are emphasizing too much on his looks. Lee Min Ho does put a lot of efforts into his acting. Too many people are writing CH off before giving it a chance. It hasn't even premiered yet. I think we should watch the first few episodes first before having any judgement on it.

At the end of the day, how good or bad City Hunter is will be determined by the WRITERS.

All the "he's so hot" sh!t aside, let's not forget that Lee Min Ho is a superb actor. Of course, his talent isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you see him because he IS so hot. But as an actor, Lee Min Ho is the real deal and nobody can truthfully say otherwise.

@birdie it's really obvious that you've never read the manga or you'll be not comparing the scheduler and lead of Midas with LMH or you're missing the point of all the complaints. Firstly someone says that the writers stuck closely to the manga and all the fans of City Hunter know that Ryo Saeba is basically always broke. So now explain to me how someone's broke and wears different fashionable clothes every day?? They just have to admit that this drama is a loose adaptation of CH. They will be doing a romcom version of CH to satisfy LMH fanbase. As Christine write he is too polished to be a believable Ryo Saeba

Actually I am only replying to @77 grace, and whether clothes fit the character .At this point we do not know what exactly his character in the drama is.He is not playing a broke character for sure.We know it is not Ryo.Whether City Hunter is sticking close to the manga is debatable in days to come.. I am aware what the manga story is about. I am just stating the point that lots of other characters in other dramas wear different outfits each time.

Firstly, it's ridiculous to express disappointment in City Hunter when we haven't seen one episode! Lee Min Ho plays a character who is well-groomed and dresses stylishly....DUH! What lead actor or actress in K-drama doesn't???

Fugitive Plan B was one of my three favorite k-dramas of 2010. While not perfect, there were episodes that simply amazing (candle, anyone?). Bi's acting was sublime and the fact that he looked good enough to EAT didn't hurt matters either. : )

Lee Min Ho notwithstanding, we have no idea what City Hunter has in store (hence, RANDOM!). The stills have created lots of buzz, which was clearly the point. If the drama sucks, we'll find out soon enough, but you can't judge a book by its cover, people. Case in point: My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho. I mean, who knew?

Lastly, City Hunter is BASED on the manga. If you want the manga, read the damn manga.

Screw[f] you. If they're going to use the damn name of anime/manga, the least they could do is actually be faithful to its core instead of turning it into "The Pretty-Boy Adventures".

All that I can draw from this post is that, like the rest of you, Lee Minho is HOT!
And in the pics with Gu Hara, I'm happy that he's not looking at her. Haha, they're not even romantically linked in the drama, but whatever.
