Gong Yoo, Jung Yumi’s Crucible wraps filming

Filming has wrapped on Crucible and now we get our first look with these stills, featuring leads Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince) and Jung Yumi (Oki’s Movie, Come Closer).

The movie was announced several months ago and stirred my interest because I love both actors, and also because of the weighty subject material, which is based on a true story. The movie is an adaptation of a bestselling novel by respected writer Gong Ji-young, which is in turn inspired by the story of a rape at a school for the deaf.

It’s the kind of movie that I can easily picture Jung in — she plays a human rights activist with a strong sense of justice, and can embody passion and vulnerability like nobody’s business. But it’s Gong Yoo I’m curious and a little intrigued about, since his most known projects have been in solid rom-com territory, with Coffee Prince, Finding Kim Jong-wook, and Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy. This project just screams “transition to Serious Actor,” and I’ll be interested to see how he fares, playing a teacher at the school.

After wrapping up his last scene in Daejeon earlier this month, Gong Yoo said, “With the filming over, I feel relieved and also saddened. I felt a lot of various emotions living as In-ho, which I hope the audiences will be able to sympathize with.” Jung Yumi said, “There was so much that I felt while filming the movie, and I learned a lot from watching our outstanding child actors.”

Crucible plans to release later this year.

Love both of them, and it sounds like an interesting story, looking forward to this.

But yeah, he really needs to make his drama comeback at some point soon. T_T Preferably opposite someone equally adorable like Lee Min Jung. <_<

Woah, Jung Yumi looks a bit like a young Jodi Foster with that haircut!

And Gong Yoo... Gong Yoo... Gong Yoo...

JavaBeans,

He was in "One Fine Day" which I've read is a serious drama. Have you seen it? I just stopped a moment to watch a few minutes of it (specifically Episode 8 the first 1:38 minutes) and he was doing serious. There were plenty of serious moments in the dramas you mentioned too.

I think he will do just fine. (Of course, I am not an expert in movie review.) I look forward to seeing his new movie, even though I will have to wait for months before it goes online.

Thanks for the information and the pictures!!!

haha I've hear that One Fine Day is one of the worst dramas ever made ><
I do have faith that Gong Yoo will do well with serious, though, considering his overall good acting skills (in CP, for example).

Can't wait to see Gong Yoo branching out. As much as I adored him in Coffee Prince, I'm totally interested to see him in a more serious role. And with Jung Yumi! Love that girl.

Man, a rape at a school for the deaf? Bad enough it's at a school, but for the deaf? Wow, that's quite a.... Wow. *sigh* Well, reality is life is not all about them rainbows and that damn pot of gold at the end of it (even if there is a pot of gold there, chances are it's probably cursed for all we know).

Part of me doesn't want to watch considering we deal with real life, which is bad enough, but there's a part of me who wants to sit in and "listen" (uh, as in watch) to this story be told. Underdogs gotta rise. Looks like I'll be watching. X/

They're COUSINS?! Dang... that kinda ruined Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy now

They're not cousins. "Gong" is not a common Korean last name, and according to the jokbok (family tree) for the Gongs, the two would be distant relatives (Gong Yoo belonging at the grandfather line and Gong Hyojin two lines down at the granddaughter line). But if you're going to talk this way, then every Korean belonging to the same clan of any family/last name would all be relatives.

I believe Gong Yoo will do fine in this movie. It's true that most of his work were rom com, but my fav scene of his acting is his crying during the critical part of Coffee Prince. I've seen that drama at least 10 times, but I still feel the pangs each time when I see my Choi Han Kyul cries as he tells Ko Eun Chan that "all Choi Han Kyul is a chance to shine..that all Choi Han Kyul needs is to find something that he's good at..."If that's not good acting...(but then,I'm biased...Gong Yoo could be selling a parcel of land in the middle of the desert & I will still watch that ad,hehe ;)

Gong Yoo has beautiful limbs. I noticed that in Coffee Prince. His fingers are long, slim and tapering, his hands beautiful. He's got beautiful legs too, long and slim, in those tight black jeans he favoured in Coffee Prince. I wasn't a fan of his at first, but when I saw Coffee Prince, I fell in love. Gong Yoo, where are yoo? Yoohoohoo I'm here.....

Yep. Those legs that beautifully extend from Seoul to Busan are killers. ;) You know what they say about legs and feet...

One of my most fave parts of Coffee Prince: the parts where he jogs.

DB, have you watched Gong Yoo's Finding Mr Destiny? I happen to love that movie, it's done after his military stint. He's taken the nerd-OCDish role in it. Very nicely done. I think this movie is still going to hit me with more love for him, because FMD has cemented my love for his talent.

AND HER NAME IS JUNG YU MI? GOD. QUE SERA SERA. BEST THING EVER. I HATE BUT LOVE THE ENDING. DARN.

CONCLUSION: Will watch this movie.

Yay!
As someone who can only watch k-dramas and movies on the net, I normally don't keep an eye out for the new movies because it'll probably take a really long time til I'll be able to watch them and sometimes there will never be subs. But in this case, I'll definitely wait to watch it because I just love both of these actors (especially because of JY, because I've had a soft spot for her since Que Sera Sera and she's so rarely seen) ^^

Agree with everyone here... Coffee Prince is like my favorite dessert... irresistible. Loved the fact that the story was was so well executed and the relationships didnt feel forced at all. Gong Yoo is probably one of the best actors out there- I am glad he is doing serious, meaningful cinema...but he should definitely be back for some nice, light romantic comedy...oh and please make it with YEH...

I like how he's challenging himself (and perhaps his fans?) with this movie.

Not afraid to admit I also like that he's trimmed back down from his role in Finding Kim Jong-wook.

I was looking for this movie everywhere ever since I saw some commentary stuff on KBS (or was it SBS? I don't know, but it was the same network that hosts Music Bank...) :O! I made a bet with my brother that I'd find out which movie it was. I was so disappointed when I couldn't find it but now I'm content. Can't wait for this one!

I admire Gong Yoo for taking up such a serious role. I just know he will do well especially when you see him in serious scenes of CP. He really nails it and your heart isnt the same again! With this one being a true story I really hope GY will be catapulted as a serious movie star with box office credits to show for. Dogani Fighting~ Gong Yoo Fighting~
