First look at Warrior Baek Dong-soo

Here’s our first look at upcoming fusion sageuk Warrior Baek Dong-soo, the comic book adaptation which stars Ji Chang-wook as our righteous hero Baek Dong-soo and Yoo Seung-ho as the (seemingly Mi-shil-esque) villain/rival Yeo-woon.

To be honest, I can’t tell from these images whether the drama’s going to be awesomely action-and-thrills-packed fusion fare, or campy Peter Pan-y stuff. The plain photos make it look like the latter but I’m hoping for the former, since I’m always drawn to Robin Hood-like setups; they’re the ultimate underdog stories, aren’t they? Maybe all they need is a good Photoshop job.

Plus, I’m already looking forward to the good-versus-evil-hotness rivalry between our boys Dong-soo and Yeo-woon, which will undoubtedly be heightened by the fact that these two train together in secret practice sessions as children (as you can see in the stills below). Dong-soo becomes known as an expert swordsman, perhaps the best around — but you can bet your bottom dollar Yeo-woon’s a close second and will be challenging him in no time.

Their graduation from boyhood friends to enemies will be key to building the tension between their adult selves, as Dong-soo joins the king’s guard and Yeo-woon becomes part of a group planning to assassinate him. It’s kind of like City Hunter, now that I think of it, only the conflict is bromance rather than romance — both strong setups, both things I am an utter sucker for.

Aside from the boys, the drama also stars Yoon So-yi (Hero), who plays Jin-ju, who’s dressed in male garb below. (She’s kind of got the Peter Pan vibe going, no?)

Jin-ju has grown up as part of a gang of righteous bandits, the kind of people who are technically breaking the law but do so in the name of the greater good. She has a bright personality, who confronts the world fearlessly and with a strong sense of justice. Her feelings for Dong-soo are described as noble and pure, and their love of the “fateful” variety. (Let’s just hope that the invocation of fate doesn’t point to a tragic end! It always makes me nervous, since these Korean dramas sure love their angsty, dramatic twists of fate.)

Warrior Baek Dong-soo began filming at the end of April, and is set for a July 4 premiere (it’ll follow Lie To Me on SBS).

Except Kim Nam Gil is WAY hotter. Yoo Seung-ho is young & cute, but I'm finding it difficult to see him in that "manly" wig >_>;

I can't help but think that the cast is too young for my liking. Is it how it suppose to be like that in the Manwha?
I know they're all above legal age, but I don't think I can take them seriously while they're fighting for revenge blood/doing Robin-hood acts...all with their baby faces .__.;

Yay Ji Chang Wook! <3

Those pics with the wires aren't the official promo shots, they're just BTS shots of the shoot. I don't get the Peter Pan vibe at all. lol, where did that come from? If it's because of the wire-fu, plenty of saeguks have had wire action.

Yoo Seung-ho looks like a young Bidam.

I'm excited for the kids. They hardly ever disappoint, I wish I can say the same for the adults.

Aaaaargh! OMG! I'm so excited, sorry.
Look at Yeo Jin-gu. He has more talent in his littlest toenail than the person who'll be playing his adult counterpart, but still... Eeeee! Can't wait!

I actually have faith in Lee Hyun-jik, the PD, hopefully this won't be some laughable cheesefest. He's kind of similar in style to Yoo In-shik who made a huge leap from Bad Family to Giant last year and proved himself, hopefully Lee Hyun-jik is following in the same vein.
Besides, the Jamyunggo PD is set to be co-directing, right? I thought the latter was very well directed.

Two of my fave child actors!!! The boy who played young LJK in Time bet Dog and Wolf (or young Ji Sung in Kim Soo Ro) and the boy who played young LJK in Iljimae (or young Ji Sung in Swallow the Sun). For some reason, I find very amusing that they both played the young versions of the same actors.

I guess photo quality can make all the difference, but these photos look plain and...well, cheap. Like the production quality is cheap. Hopefully I'm wrong and it'll actually be dark and cool.

The longer I stare at the outfits the worse they look. *squints* Like... a little too neat and perfect patchwork to actually be patchwork kinda thing going on. And tbh I am getting a very young vibe from these pictures and stills, younger even than the average age of the cast. Like Saturday morning hijinks followed by Power Rangers or something. I don't even know why I keep looking, I'm not going to watch this. O.o

hrmm... Ji Chang Wook will look better with less smile more serious look and they both look blah with the hair.. Yoo Sueng Ho does look like Bidam when he is younger.. but, i agree that Kim Nam Gil is way HOTTER... ^^ Still do not know who the the two actresses.. well, looking forward to the trailer to see if I am gonna watch this or not....

I don't trust dramas that cast such young actors as their leads.

Unless I hear this drama is brilliant, I probably won't watch.
