Song Chang-eui joins You’ve Fallen For Me
by javabeans
Drama and musical actor Song Chang-eui is joining You’re Beautiful duo Park Shin-hye and Jung Yong-hwa in their upcoming drama, You’ve Fallen For Me, which was formerly called Festival. Yay!
I’m happy about this, because he’s a solid dramatic actor, and he’s definitely got the chops to take on a role in a music-themed drama that’s basically a university version of Dream High. You’ve Fallen For Me is described as a youth melodrama set at a performing arts university; Park and Jung, along with their early-twentysomething classmates, dream big dreams and harbor hopes of becoming successful actors, singers, and performers. Song plays a much-lauded director whose success producing original musicals on Broadway has made him a famous figure back home.
Another reason I’m pleased: As much as I enjoyed Park and Jung being cute together in You’re Beautiful, they aren’t the most…dramatically weighty pair of actors. The youngsters will give the drama its youthful energy, while Song will hopefully add some dramatic heft. He’s basically fulfilling Eom Ki-joon‘s role in Dream High, as the musical veteran amongst rookie young’uns. (Okay, Park’s no rookie. But I bet many of the other members of the student cast will be pretty green.)
Although, it’s worth noting that You’ve Fallen For Me seems to be positioning itself as more serious than Dream High; the term “youth melodrama” suggests it’s not aiming for comedy or lighthearted fluff. Not gonna lie; I’m a little nervous about that.
In addition to film and dramas (notably, he played one-half of a gay couple in last year’s Life Is Beautiful) Song has a number of musical theater roles to his name, including Hedwig (for which he was quite popular) and, more recently, The Sorrows of Young Werther.
Check out those pipes; here Song Chang-eui sings “발길을뗄수없으면” (If you can’t turn away) from The Sorrows of Young Werther:
And here he sings “우리는” (Us) with Im Hye-young, also from Werther:

Sorry, I don't mean to insult Jung Yong-hwa's fans, but I wish Song Chang-eui is the main lead. Oh well.. I'll still watch.. :)

But Song Chang Eui is way to older than Park Shin Hye, I think. He don't suit to be a college student. XD

Yay! I'm looking forward to this drama even more now!
Although I wish it wasn't classified as a "melodrama"...what's wrong with lighthearted-fluff, producers?
Kind of off topic but I really hoped for a "cover" album from the Dream High cast where they could release studio versions of all the songs they covered in the drama. Like a Sam Dong+Jason duet of Last Concert or Pil Sook's While Waiting...etc.

I didn't manage to catch Life Is Beautiful (oh the length) so the last thing I saw him in was Cinderella Man. Woefully wasted in that. Hopefully this is a meatier or at least more enjoyable role for him.
Side note: Somehow he always reminds me of Park Shi Hoo. Mostly in that they are both so much better on screen. :)

If there'd be Oscar's for kdrama's in 2010, I'd have honestly given Life is Beautiful:
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Script / Screenplay
Best Drama
It might not have been well-promoted or discussed on international kdrama fansites. But the drama was highly praised/voted on by a lot of korean media outlets (SBS awards, High Cut, NeTV, 10Asia, etc.).
The drama's subtitled and finished, if you got time, try it out, bb :)

As interesting as this looks I'd rather have the other music-themed drama set in a university air in its place.

Ehhh...this doesn't look interesting at all. PSH isn't a compelling actress. I still cringe at her character in YB. Yong Hwa is even below her in terms of acting.
so a pass for me. GIVE ME WHAT's UP!!

This is SCE's second project with Park Shin-Hye after they did the dubbing for the animation "Green Days" (소중한 날의 꿈) in 2010 together.
Not a big fan of the "musical" trend in dramas, seems to be the IT right now, and...
The Force of the PSH-JYH stanning is strong in this one.
Will wait for reviews after the premiere.

Man!
Sometimes I wish I wasn't a Vocal Performance major. I have been loving these K-dramas with music, but I can't help critiquing their technique when they sing live.
Just appreciate the music....just appreciate the music.

I don't get it when people criticize Psh's acting...i think she is a good actress, better than lots of girls there. And she can pull off melodramas, i watched TOH and even when i didn't like the drama that much, she was very touching (she was only 16)
In yab her character wasn't dramatic, so we didn't get to see more of those scenes, just her cuteness...i think she's a great actress, in Cyrano, for instance, she could act a little more. She did it more than well there. I consider that her choices haven't been good (hayate, especially and kimchi sth)...i hope in this drama she can show a different side of her acting, and her abilities. And i hope this drama becames good too.

I think park shin hye is a natural actress. she's good actually; and I've seen her acting in various genre.
unfortunately, most viewers correlates "good acting" with "tear jerkers". but, don't you know its more difficult to be a comedian than to be a "tear jerker actor"?

the sounds of the cameras' shutter clickings are irritating the hell out of me. i feel that it ruins the mood of the show. they should ban or at least allocated them somewhere.. the cameras i mean.
