Singer-actress Park Ji-yoon joins Lie To Me

Another actress joins the cast of SBS’s anticipated fake-marriage-scandal drama Lie To Me, starring Yoon Eun-hye and Kang Ji-hwan: It’s former teen pop singer turned songwriter, actress, and photographer Park Ji-yoon.
She stays close to her roots for this character, playing a character named Park Ji-yoon; she’s a manager at the H Hotel of which Kang Ji-hwan is executive director, and has his full trust. (He also happens to be her old high school classmate.) Her character is the passionate careerwoman (read: workaholic) type who, when presented with the choice between love and career, wouldn’t hesitate to choose her job.
Park is one of those celebs who enjoyed the spotlight earlier in her career as a solo pop singer (the now-29-year-old debuted with her first album at 15, in 1997). She put out six full albums, then stepped back from her idol path as she transitioned into songwriting, and also took a few acting roles (2005’s Bichunmu, 2010’s Seoul), though she’s kept a mostly low profile. (She did return with her 7th album after six years’ hiatus, which completely escaped my notice; must go track it down now!)
She’s also one of those singers I have an inexplicable fondness for, along with the likes of other late-’90s, early-2000s artists like As One and G.O.D. Listening to her songs takes me back, yo. It’s like I’m back in those fraught days of late adolescence again. (*shudder* Thank goodness we’re way past that.)
Lie To Me premieres, as you know, in the packed-to-the-gills-with-trendy-dramas month of May.

I was thinking she was joining Best Love, til you mentioned this had YEH and KJH. Too many drama titles to keep up with!
I don't like/dislike her, and I haven't kept up with her much. But I should track down that latest album too! I didn't know she released one recently :/

GASP. It's her! Her song 'In My Fading Memory' is one of my favorite songs, yet I'm not all that familiar with her music yet. It's just that one song that I replay over and over again. She's also the singer that Gong Yoo once recommended. (SWOON. A guy who knows his music <3).
But sigh. How I wish the 'passionate careerwoman' would get the guy more often!

oh i love all songs in her 7th album. she has this soulful, sorrowful voice that just makes me feel sth. and she's funny too; i once saw her in happy together

I was introduced to her by GY as well. Love her music ever since. I think GY mentioned he has always wished he had her on his radio show! I thought of only watching Best Love but I guess I will be watching this now. *wink*

Oh wow!! I was also a fan! It's been so long since I've seen her! Well, that could be in pat because I never knew she released a 7th album. When did that happen?

i remember thinking she was surprisingly not bad in the 90s drama "Ghost" with jang dong gun and myung se bin. i'm glad she's finally coming out in a drama, again.
i liked one of her more recent songs "in my fading memory" though i haven't listened to her other 7th album songs.

I didn't know she did acting at all! I wasn't into her much but I do have a few of her songs on my playlist. I can't believe she's only 29. For some reason I thought she was much older back in the early 2000s.

How could you have missed her 7th album jav? there are so many beautiful songs from that album. I love the songs "in my fading memory" and "sleeptalk" from that album.

Hahaha, thanks for coming by~^^ Yes, I hope lie to me will be her best drama ever. I wish all of the actors involved a big success. I really like the cast members, including the sub main actors and supporting roles. Want YEH & KJH to come out big, PJY to jump star her career again as well.

Love her voice. Love her 7th album. It's very stripped down, very basics but lots of soul in it.
I love 잠꼬대 "Sleep Talking" the most because of Tablo's eloquent lyrics. :D

Her two MVs 성인식 (Sung In Shik) and 난 남자야 (Na Namja Ya) are very memorable, especially 성인식 (Sung In Shik). The dancing was great, and she's cool.
I have watched her in Bichunmu, I think I prefer her as a singer.
Then she went quiet for a while. It is good to see her back.

I watched this drama a few weeks ago. It was okay, I enjoyed it-- didn't particularly love or hate it. Park Jiyoon's role was very small in this, but it did remind me to look her up, which I'm glad I did. (I've been her fan since her debut in late 90s, have her first 4 CDs), but after that I sort of forgot about kpop altogether and recently getting back into it...
And WOW. I'm totally rediscovering Park Jiyoon. Her 7th and 8th albums (which she produced independently after having left JYP Entertainment) are musical masterpieces!!! Not a single song that's average or bad-- they are all SOOOOOO good. It's the most impressive Korean music I've heard in a while. It's sort of like a cross between indie/folk/dream/rock -- kinda like Nell (one of my fav. Korean rock bands) if they had a female singer... Put on some headphones on a rainy day, close your eyes, and just listen to those 2 albums on repeat all day--- so good...!
Anyways, I'm a fan of Park Jiyoon (again). She's always been really really pretty in her own unique way, and now in her 30s she's still one of the naturally prettiest Korean women... But her music-- her music has matured so much and so artistically on a totally higher level than her former kpop-star past. Great career move, and I wish her continued success as a singer/songwriter, actress, photographer, etc...
[P.S. I love As One as well. As One (Min, Crystal) and Park Jiyoon all have very thin delicate voices-- unique and sort of an acquired taste, but makes for some really beautiful music!]
