Park Ye-jin and Kim Suro reunite for Mr. Idol
by girlfriday
Park Ye-jin (My Princess) has begun filming the role that Park Shi-yeon left behind, in the idol music industry film that was formerly titled Happy Together, now called Mr. Idol. Can’t say I love the title change, as it sounds more like a male model calendar contest than a film about idol stars, but at least the premise sounds interesting. It’s described as a comedy about the music biz, and specifically about the making of an idol group, focusing on the behind-the-scenes movers and shakers of the entertainment industry. I feel a little better about the film now that it’s clearly marked for humor.
She’ll be reuniting with Family Outing member, funnyman Kim Suro (God of Study) in what should be a great match-up of wits between the man with the midas touch when it comes to making idol stars, and the woman who has to actually manage them. I’m picturing lots of Park Jin-young-esque stuff from Kim Suro, who reportedly researched real producers to come up with his character. What, did he follow Yang Hyun-suk around for a day and come up with his own impression?
The film stars Ji Hyun-woo (Birth of the Rich, also of the band The Nuts) as an indie rocker that Kim and Park discover, and scout as the lead vocalist for their new idol group, called Mr. Children. Yeah, I dunno what that’s about. I’m trying to figure out a way in which that name makes any kind of sense, but I can’t come up with one. Or maybe the movie’s being cheeky with the silliness of idol band’s names, in which case, funny. But…you know…Mr. Children isn’t exactly inherently funny, so much as nonsensical. But I can see the potential for a delivery-dependent joke in there somewhere.
Idol star Park Jaebeom (formerly of 2PM) plays one of the members of the group, where I’m sure much drama will unfold, complete with sing-offs and dance-offs. Also starring is Im Won-hee (Quiz King), and directing is Ra Hee-chan (All We Need Is Courage, The Big Scene).
I’m looking forward to seeing Park Ye-jin play something more up her alley than ineffectual villainous schemer, because that was a disappointment. Comedy seems much more suited to her personality, so hopefully she’ll do something fun with this role.
Mr. Idol has begun shooting, and plans to release later this year.

"mr. children? as in…major japanese rock band mr. children?"
First thing that popped into my head too. Yeah, that name is probably going to get changed because I don't think Mr. Children would be cool with using their name for a pop idol group.
The movie sounds fun though, so I want to check it out.

As a long-time fan of the real Mr. Children I'm not too happy with this choice of band name either...
otherwise everything else sounds interesting!

Eyy.. I'm also a longtime fan of Mr. Children and I'm not happy with this either.
Please don't use their name and make a fool out of it :/
Mr. Children is a legend in jpop/rock esp in the 90's and 00's.

how about this scenario?
they name the band Mr. Children... only to find out that there's another, more establish, popular band named Mr. Children, thus needing them to have a band name change, and maybe a scene where they come up with various silly names and equally silly meanings?
just a thought. they could totally work it into the storyline.

I wouldn't be surprised if they change the name of the idol group before release/filming....I mean, I think it would be strange to promote the movie in Japan with an idol band called "Mr. Chrildren" in it. Or maybe it is an intended pun or so... (and no real agency would name their idol group like that, because they wouldn't be able to enter the japanese market xDD)
Dunno I think that's strange, because Mr Children seems to be like THE music group in Japan. If you ask a Japanese to name a japanese famouse group, 95% would name them without thinking (at least thats my experience).
But all in all the movie sounds to be promising. And I loved Familiy Outing with Kim Suro and Park Ye Jin. They are both good in comedy xD

Sounds fun. I love Kim Soo-ro, and I think Park Ye-jin can do funny. I hope the movie is comedic in a cute way and doesn't overdose on the slapsticks or crude humor.

Um, it better NOT be called Mr. Children, because the Japanese band might get a wee bit ticked.
ETA: oops, I see Yume just said that - it's true though - asked for a Japanese band Mr. Children would be up there with Dir En Grey (for a metal fan), SMAP or Arashi (for the boy band fans) that anyone would name off the top of their heads.

Or AKB48 if you're into the girl bands. The new Morning Musume (but with even more members).
But yeah first thing that popped into my head was the Japanese band. And I was just replaying their songs on like repeat yesterday...... LOL.

Loved Park Ye Jin and Kim Suro in Family Outing, and I have a feeling that they'll do well together in comedy, but I wish I could see more variety in roles for Ji Hyun Woo.
Seriously, in every movie or drama he does, he always seems to be singing, on a guitar, or an actual indie rocker. I understand that he's actually is one, but seriously, it's like he's type-casted or something. I would love to see him in more varied roles lol, he's like Jang Gun Seok, always the similar roles. Love them both, but come on now.
And I thought the same thing about Mr. Children. Famous Japanese band? Yes. Is there a need for name change? I would think unless it's done with permission or something lol.

Will there be a love line between Kim Suro and Park Yejin? PLease please! It'll be awesome!
And why he'd follow Yang Hyunsuk? He should follow JYP! :P But YG is awesome too. I saw the BigBang n 2NE1 TV and he came out like a cool daddy, different persona with JYP. Kim Suro should combine these two personalities and add some more!!
Ahhh interesting.

She's also doing a film with JSW.
Even though we all hated her with a passion in My Princess, that reaction must have pleased the movie makers to cast her for these fun/romantic roles.
God, it would be nice to see her out of her Hate-bot clothes and into something friendly.

Hahaha. Boy band "Mr. Children"...
Well, boy bands in general always seem to have erm. interesting names, Korean boy bands as well.
Case in point: upcoming groups Boy Friend, B1A4, X-5, M-1, After School Boys...etc.
Hehe. I find the names really...IDK.

Mr.Children??? The name will have to be changed, I doubt the guys of the real band will be too thrilled about it. And if not I wonder if a lawsuit would be made.
Otherwise this movie sounds really great.

I think the good thing about Ye Jin & SooRo taking on this role is that in some form they've seen through Daesung what its like for an idol star. Didn't realise that this would be the same film that JaeBum would be in but I'm totally anticipating for his debut. Pray it does well ^^

totally looking forward to this but i wonder is this gonna be the new "trend" musically related idol such dramas? With the success of Dream High now we have Mr. Idol, Best Love (which is about idols in a way/ wash up has-been idols) &the other drama "what's up" like really all these dramas tend with idols, entertainment biz thing. I can sorta see this becoming a hot trend.
A-list actors/actresses getting their chance to be an idol will jump to these roles.

javabeans,
maybe the band name "mr. children" is a play on the korean word for idol? So 아이들 and 아이돌... just a thought
