Sohn Ye-jin in Harper’s Bazaar
by javabeans
Sohn Ye-jin is featured in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar, taking some time away from her latest movie project — Chilling Romance with Lee Min-ki — to shoot this spread.
Her look for this shoot is described as “a free-spirited and romantic spring goddess,” which is, as usual, an overstatement of the creative concept. I won’t debate that Sohn’s a goddess, or that she looks fresh and spring-like — but if you’re calling it Spring Goddess, I’m expecting woodland fairies and butterflies dressing you in flowers and moss, is all I’m sayin’.
I miss having Sohn Ye-jin in a drama — disappointment over Personal Taste notwithstanding — because now that she’s back to her movie career, we’ll probably be seeing less of her in the public eye. It’s one of those oddities of the industry where the truly big A-list stars are the ones that many international fans don’t know (I’m incredulous every time a die-hard drama fan shrugs about not knowing who Jang Dong-gun is, or Lee Jung-jae), just because those are the ones who don’t regularly appear in dramas. And while Korea can boast all the Cannes winners and Oldboy hipster-fans it likes, television dramas are really the bread’n’butter of the industry abroad.
So, ahem, Ms. Sohn Ye-jin, get on that drama project, stat! (And Jang Dong-gun too, while we’re at it.)

Yeah, I'm bitter about Personal Taste too. At least her movies don't last hours so I can do a SYJ marathon on my free time. And time is actually the reason why I haven't seen Alone in Love yet, which I plan to do this summer.
Back when Personal Taste was airing, I was shocked that some people had no idea who she was, and all they gushed about was Lee Min Ho (which I won't dissent, the guy is gorgeous) and how old she looked when they're together. Being a Son Ye Jin fan, it was hurt a bit, but I'm over it, because I know that after Personal Taste people who only saw the show because of LMH have appreciated her talents (and beauty). So now I hope that no one would criticize her again because, after all, she is Son Ye Jin. :)
(lol, I sound like a dude but really, that statement above was just my inner girl-crush ranting.)

I was surprised by that too! I was SURE everyone would know her from The Classic. She won a bunch of awards for her role in that movie too! But then again, it does occur to me that she doesn't do many dramas and I don't think the ratings for her dramas ever hit 20%.

"And time is actually the reason why I haven’t seen Alone in Love yet, which I plan to do this summer. "
Alone in Love is the greatest Korean trendy of all time. Son Yeh Jin's performance is one of the most realized pieces of acting in a non-historical K-drama in the past decade. Funny, ironic, witty, bitter, angry, tragic, etc.

That is something that is true, a lot of people don't know some actors because they aren't in many dramas and do a lot of movies...
In my case, I get to know her through movies: loved The Classic, a Moment to Remember, April Snow, The Art of Seduction, just then I saw her in Summer Scent and after Personal taste.

She really is pretty and I liked her in personal taste even if I didn't know who she was before. Lol I agree with what you said about how die hard drams fans don't know most of the A list actors. At allkpop everyone is excited for thieves just because of kim soo hyun(and I am one of them) and they have no idea who the rest of the cast are. Some recognize the actress from my sassy girl but 90% of the comments are for him. So I do hope that some more good/great actors actually act in dramas.

I am not sure if rom-com is her thing. I also think the stylist in Personal Taste made her look older, while concentrating on making LMH look hot. Her acting skills are much better than most female leads in dramas, so yes, please come back to dramas and pick a really great character.

You got it on the mark JB, the hallyu stars became popular because of their kdramas and not their films. They shouldn't stop them at least once a year or if that is too much, once every 2 years. If they don't do it, more and more idols acting in kdrama will rise.

But that usually happen with the movie/drama industry, no? They seldom do crossovers. Like Hong Kong drama actors, once proceeded to the movie industry, hardly return to the small screen.
I'm at fault as well. I didn't know who Yoo Ji Tae was until Star's Lover. Haha. Only because I didn't watch Old Boy. :P

This list seems weird, with all the different sections. Can't believe Jeon Do Yeon is in steady category when she should definately be on the bankable stars list, her movies are definately critically and commercially successful most of the time. Ha Ji Won is really high on the list and she's had a few flops but I don't know how successful her horror films were, did Haeundae push her over the top? Kang Dong Won should be on bankable list, not youth power.....his films have done really well at the box office, esp. in 2010.
I don't see why son ye jin isn't in youth power list when she's younger than Im Soo Jung, Kim Ha Neul, Ha Jung Woo...actually she's younger than everyone on that list.
Wasn't Moon Geun Young considered #1 bankable female movie star at one point?
So is the number besides the actor just for that category or for the whole list?

The first Korean movie I ever saw starred Son Ye Jin and I was certainly quite taken with her beauty. I've seen some of her other films but for me she's the best in the TV drama Alone in Love. I watched it for free at http://www.crunchyroll.com/alone-in-love and liked it so much that I bought the YA entertainment region 1 box set.

aarrggghhh im too late f0r this!!
anyways, i saw Son ye jin first in her movie, Art of Seduction. Actually i just saw this like two months ago and it's my 1st exposure to korean entertainment shows! I didn't know her then but I had soo much fun watching the movie.
Then i gathered she has this rom-com drama, Personal taste, so i watched it as im a sucker of that genre kind of tv-shows! I was addicted to the show and finished the whole thing in just 3 days (i think thats too quick for a 1st timer & being it in a foreign language!).
I think she was really cute in PT, and i like her from then!I find her acting so natural and has truly performed her role as someone who is quirky, clumsy, naive and somehow plucky despite the difficulties! And i think it was her character that carried this show through out! And yes many people failed to see that!
Being too curious about what other movies/drama she has, i found out who she is!! I wouldn't have known how great an actress she is!
Anyway, to cut it short.. when it comes to drama, i love her most in Alone in Love (..by the way i finished this in just 2 days!!). although being more fond of rom-com, this drama has really moved me!! It's very realistic and one of them few tv-shows that presents deep meaning of love and/or life itself. It's one that would truly inspire people. I really hope, too, she'll be doing drama after her 2 movies this year! :]
