Bae Doo-na plays a doll for High Cut
by javabeans
Bae Doo-na has a fashion shoot for the current High Cut magazine, which takes the concept of “Doo-na’s doll play” and is available in the magazine’s issue #48 (March).
To be honest I don’t really see the doll effect, but the concept is probably inspired, at least in part, by her 2009 Japanese film, Air Doll, where she played an inflatable sex/companion doll that falls in love after developing a soul. Yeah, I know. I can’t decide if I find that more intriguing or creepy. Probably equal parts both. But if ever there’s an actress who could turn playing an inanimate object into a thoughtful study of what it means to be human, it would be Bae, who earned praise for playing the quirky doll-turned-person.
Bae recently wrapped filming on her weekend drama Gloria, and hasn’t yet announced her next project.

I actually watched Air Doll. Bae Doo-na was really good in that movie.
It was weird but amusing.

Gloria was tolerable at best. I'll hold back my rant and just tell you to play the song for 4 hours straight while doing something you hate. It's like you were there, and I saved you time.
Her movie is... eccentric. There is nudity. It's an art film, so... you know. It's got themes and morals but people were too preoccupied talking about a Korean girl in a Japanese movie playing a doll. But I thought it was alright. Not amazing but watchable.

It's the type of film that really incites subjective opinions.
It's probably not saying much about the film, but the best part of the movie for me was the soundtrack. World's End Girlfriend did a great job.
Regardless, Bae Doo Na was very good, and she had great chemistry with Arata.

The only thing I've seen her in is the drama Someday, which I really enjoyed. It's super underrated, IMO. She played a manga artist who had abandonment issues, slowly opening up to relationships with other people. It had an almost indie feel to it.

Agree! The relationships were so well-developed. And I really liked how all the leads were damaged in some way, and trying to make sense of the world and of love through that lens. Plus the animated parts were beautiful. And I loved how honest and logical the conversations were (lacking that WTF drama-logic that seems to crop up way too often, like a pesky weed).

Country Princess is good. I never got to watch Someday but I always wanted to. I heard God of Study was great.
Above all I recommend The Host. But I love monster movies.

I absolutely loved Gloria. She was also great in Country Princess and How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor. She's an amazing and underrated actress. Wish she would work more.

I think the main 'doll' like thing is her hair. She looks like a modernized tricked out cabbagge patch kid. lol

I thought Air Doll was ok, if only for Doo-na. Hell, I'm probably one of the few people who thought her performances in the great Barking Dogs Never Bite and Linda, Linda, Linda where a lot better. Not trying to take anything away from Air Doll, I guess I just overhyped myself for the film - that or Arata was incredibly dull as the love interest. :-p.
Anyways, I don't see the doll like features either, but only thing missing is Doo-na posing in a Ferrari or something.
