My Princess: Episode 14

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Cute has returned! All hail the return of The Cute! Someone please, throw us a royal ball in The Cute’s honor. It’s the least you could do for dragging us through such nonsense and boredom. I mean, what’s a princess gotta do for a royal party up in this house?

EPISODE 14 RECAP

Aaaand, we have contact! They kiss, and Hae-young tells her that they can’t run away from each other now: “I couldn’t possibly know how hard it is for you, how you’re feeling right now. But that’s how I can keep you by my side.”

He asks if his room is empty, the Royal Grand Executive Presidential Suite, and tells her to go ahead and up-charge him for the hot water, since he’ll be staying. She protests, but he says he’s coming down with a cold since she made him wait outside all day in the freezing cold.

She calls him out on faking it just to stay, and he makes her feel his forehead and puts on his best poor puppy face. He insists he’s really really cold, and tells her to turn up the heat…”Or if you’re going to stay with me all night, a cold room’s fine.” Rawr.

That earns him a glare and a huffy exit from the princess. He laughs, quite pleased with himself.

Yoon-ju gets called to a meeting in the palace, and she finds herself entering quite the official board meeting…that she knew nothing about. Jung-woo tells her to sit down, and then speaks for the group, announcing their position on the fake royal doohickey incident: They believe Yoon-ju should take responsibility, as in resign.

Afterwards Yoon-ju speaks to Jung-woo alone, trembling in anger at how he “could do this to her” like he’s the bad guy here. She asks if he’s doing this for Seol, or the monarchy, or that goddamned history he loves so much.

He tells her that he can do more than just make her resign if he needs to, and responds that its “because of a woman that I once loved to death.” Aw, sad. I don’t think that girl exists anymore, buddy. He tells her that he’s emptying everything she has, so that she can start over. Which would maybe be a better sentiment if she had a soul or something.

Back at the pension, Seol eats while Hae-young just stares at her. She reminds him that he was dying of hunger just a few minutes ago, but he refuses to eat, wanting desperately to get sick. Ha.

He muses that if he falls really ill, then she’ll stay up all night with him, tending to his fever, and momentarily forgetting all of her pain. He tells her that he wants to get so sick that she can’t help but stay by his side, despite all the reasons why they can’t be together.

She tells him that Mom will be back soon, but he’s got that covered—she’s not returning for the night, and also, she’d be on his side anyway. “Your mom loves Park suh-bang.”

Seol looks up at him and says, “I like him too. I like Park Hae-young a lot, and I missed him too.” But she adds that she needs time before she can come to grips with their families’ past, and come to laugh about it. Right now what she needs is someone to be mad at…and the only one around is Hae-young.

Well that’s a silly argument if I’ve ever heard one. Either you’re mad at him or you’re not. Anger is not transferred from one party—his father—to the son, like inheritance or debt. This is inorganic conflict in action: Drama needs them to stay apart, so she’s gonna be mad at him. He’s like the anger patsy.

He tells her to be mad at him as much as she wants, so long as she doesn’t push him away too far. He says to watch him be happy because of her, and be as mad as she wants, because he wants to do at least that much for her. Heh. He means it sincerely, but it reads like a challenge, ’cause how long could she possibly endure if he’s going to be all lovey dovey?

They’re interrupted by a man at the door—it’s Hae-young’s replacement at the palace, here to bring the princess back. His presence immediately spikes Hae-young’s competitive streak, and after Seol refuses to return to the palace, he cuts the guy down to size. He sends a message to the President not to mess with the monarchy anymore.

Upstairs, Hae-young triumphantly tells her this is why she needs a man in the house, and reports the guy gone. Seol: “Well if that guy’s gone, maybe this guy can go too.” (They use the word nom which technically means “guy,” but connotes something more like “ass.”)

Hae-young: “What? Nom? You know, you sometimes call me nom every once in a while…” as he shuffles his feet. Hahaha. I love Wounded Pride Hae-young.

He refuses to leave, since there’s more people bound to show up. Just then, the doorbell rings, and Seol’s friends from school show up, invited by Hae-young. Next Gunnie and her court lady enter, followed by the bodyguard/minion who apparently switched sides from Gramps to Hae-young.

Seol lights up, jumping around like a little girl at the sight of her friends, and smiles at Hae-young when she realizes that he did all this for her. The doorbell rings again, and Hae-young wonders who it might be since this is everyone he invited…

And he walks back in with heavy steps, followed by a smiling Jung-woo. Yay! He joins the party, despite Hae-young’s grumbling that he wasn’t even invited.

They toast and have a good time, and Hae-young goes to the kitchen to replenish snacks, dragging Jung-woo along with him. Probably discontent to leave him alone with Seol for even a second.

In the kitchen, Hae-young watches Seol having a good time with affection, and makes a point of calling her “Our Seol,” a Koreanism that really means “My Seol.” Jung-woo notes it not without the trademark exasperation that accompanies all things Hae-young, but he’s not here to fight over Seol, much to my sadness.

He says that they look good together and he’s jealous—not so much of him, but of their situation. He then tells Hae-young about firing Yoon-ju, and asks him to help him out and go easy on her. Hae-young says he can’t do that, and that he’d only cause her more pain anyway.

There’s some fighting over Gunnie’s attention, and Seol’s friend cries out for Mr. P to bring more beer. He deflects the serving duties to Mr. N, and Jung-woo says that they should go with whoever has more money. Hae-young counters with age, and Jung-woo is finally reduced to rock-paper-scissors. Ha.

Gunnie rifles through Hae-young’s cell phone and finds a video labeled “Ero-Seol,” and both Hae-young and Seol jump at the mention of his nickname for her. Hae-young jumps up to pry it out of his hands, but everyone holds them back as Gunnie connects it to the tv for everyone to watch.

It’s the practice video of Seol doing test runs before the press conference, and everyone squeals that he’s carrying that around in his phone, while he and Seol just die of embarrassment. So cute.

Jung-woo scoffs that it’s not racy at all, despite the moniker, and then muses that this might BE racy…to Hae-young. Cue a big Woooooooooo~~ from the crowd, and Hae-young pretty much admits defeat with a “but she’s pretty in it, right?”

Seol wakes up the next morning to the comforting smell of Gunnie’s cooking, but her face falls when Jung-woo tells her that Hae-young left early in the morning. So much for wanting to be mad at him, yeah?

But then everyone gets up and scurries to the tv in a hurry, and Seol joins them to find Hae-young giving a press conference. Oy, this show and the deus ex press conference.

Hae-young basically outs his family’s backstory in relation to the monarchy—specifically how his grandfather’s fortune was built on what was once the royal treasury, and how he’s felt guilty about it all these years, hence Grandpa’s grand gesture of giving all his wealth to the restoration.

He tells them all about how the three generations of his family have caused the monarchy strife, and adds a plea for the public to take care of the princess. It all amounts to a giant public apology, for the sins of his family.

Seol watches all of this as Jung-woo drives her back to the city, and she mutters with tears in her eyes that Hae-young must be crazy. Jung-woo says that it’s probably the best that he could possibly do for her.

She finds him outside his grandfather’s hospital room, bracing for impact. She looks up at him with tears brimming in her eyes, asking why he’d do such a thing. He tells her that it was the best he could think of, and he didn’t tell her because she would’ve stopped him.

Seol: “How could you do that? I can’t do anything for you. What am I supposed to do now?” How ’bout love him freely? No? Still need more dramatic tension? Okay then.

Hae-young goes in to see his grandfather, preparing for an onslaught of epic proportions. But he’s startled to find Grandpa smiling back at him, countering his apology with a stamp of approval for telling the truth…which is something he couldn’t ever bring himself to do.

He thanks Hae-young for letting him finally lay his burdens down, and adds an apology of his own, for being the one to cause Lee Ahn’s death, and for causing such a rift with Hae-young’s father. He tells him not to hate his father because of the things that Grandpa has done.

Outside, Seol waits anxiously, as Yoon-ju walks up, full of self-righteous indignation. She blames Seol for driving Hae-young to this point. She lays into her for being so selfish, adding that she’s not the only one who’s suffered—Hae-young may appear to have grown up with a silver spoon, but he had a lonely and difficult life.

Yoon-ju accuses her of planning all of this from the beginning, which just cracks me up. A) She’s not you. B) Seol, she’s sweet, but she’s no mastermind. Basic reasoning is a strain on her.

Yoon-ju railroads her with a guilt trip about making Hae-young confess these things himself, and finishes off with how everything that’s happened is Seol’s fault. Oh, so you’re the one who hatched an evil plan wherein your goal was to make Gramps fall into a coma, but it’s all Seol’s fault? Oh. Got it. I was confused, but I see now how it’s not your fault at all.

Grandpa thanks Hae-young, and tells him that he trusts him completely. He asks him to take care of the princess, and with his burden finally lifted, he closes his eyes…and passes away.

Everyone rushes in as Hae-young cries for Grandpa to wake up, and even Yoon-ju Bot cries. Seol stands back, no doubt crippled by the guilt trip that Yoon-ju just laid on her, and cries.

As Hae-young spreads his grandfather’s ashes, he tearfully asks for forgiveness. Everyone but Seol leaves, and Yoon-ju looks back at them standing there. She makes a call to Hae-young’s father, and tells him that she’ll find a way to get him back in the country, and not to worry—Hae-young will be happy to see him. Are you literally scheming over Grandpa’s ashes? My god, woman.

Yoon-ju goes to try and lift the ban on Hae-young’s father, only to be caught red-handed by Hae-young. He tells her not to do anything, even if it’s for him, and if it’s for her…well then that’s a delusion. Ha. Awesome.

Jung-woo comes to see Seol with an “I’m just here to see you,” and laughs that her reaction isn’t what it used to be. He hands over the real royal satchel, because nothing says royalty like embroidery. He tells her that he promised the chairman that he’d put it back in the real princess’ hands, and asks her to return to the palace, because whether or not she’s there, she’s the princess.

She goes to meet Hae-young, who tells her vaguely that he’s got something he has to take care of, so he’ll be out of touch for a while. He presents her with a flowerpot, and says that it’s supposed to grow into flowers. She asks what kind but he doesn’t know. “Grow them, and I’ll be back, and you can tell me what kind of flowers I gave you.” She jokes that it sure is a weird present, but is touched at the sentiment.

He makes one request: that she return to the palace. No matter which way he looks at it, he thinks that’s where she belongs. He starts looking into the whole inheritance matter, and his lawyer tells him that his father, the rightful heir, must relinquish his claim before Grandpa’s money goes to the monarchy.

Seol ponders what to do as she puts the following comment online:

Seol: I’m growing a plant, without knowing what kind of flowers will bloom. He’s given me frustration and excitement all at once. Does Mr. P know?

Gotta love a princess who spills her heart online. She goes to visit Grandpa’s ashes, and apologizes for always blaming him, and never thanking him for helping her find her family. She promises not to run away anymore, and then re-enters the palace.

Her first order of business is to search out Yoon-ju. Showdown time? Aw, yeah. She finds her back at her old job in the museum, and calls her by her title for one last time…and then starts calling her by name, asserting her authority.

Seol reminds her of her words when she was leaving that palace: that when she returned, Yoon-ju would be dead. Ha. She follows through with her promise, the first of which is to fire her from this job too. Awesome.

Yoon-ju throws a hissy fit that this museum was put under her care directly by the chairman, but Seol gives her a wake up call. “That may have been the case yesterday, but today things have changed. The Hae-young Museum is now under the purview of the palace, and I choose the staff. So get out of my palace.” Kick. Ass.

Yoon-ju complains to her father that the museum was her entire life and she deserves it, wah, wah, wah. Even her dad is sick of hearing her entitled rants, and tells her that she’s been given a cut of the inheritance and a position at Daehan Construction. So, you’re getting a new position handed to you, and you’re still complaining? Gah.

Seol takes to her princess duties with zest, and starts strategizing for the best ways to spread Korean culture. Imma go with…dramas. She keeps getting no answer when she calls Hae-young, and when she asks her bodyguard, he tells her that Hae-young left the country. She flips her lid that they should’ve put him on the no-fly list (What is with this show and the no-fly list?) and pouts at his prolonged absence.

She begins her lessons with Hae-young’s replacement, and when he presents her with her new study schedule, she decides she doesn’t like it. She writes up one of her own, which includes: “History: Nam Jung-woo. Economics: Steve Jobs. English: John Park. Music: Beast, Rain. Fashion: Shinee. Horseback Riding: Bidam.”

LOL. This girl cracks me up. Her teacher stares slack-jawed, and she tells him that she trusts in his capabilities, and asks him to round ’em up in a week. Hahaha.

As time passes and the flowers grow, Seol studies hard. In voiceover we hear the texts that she sends him, asking why he’s taking so long. “What are you taking care of? Are you cleaning up after all the women in your life? Are there that many? Don’t just take care of one a day. Go breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Heh.

Another one: “Today I’m wearing a really short skirt! If you don’t hurry back, I’m gonna wear a low-cut dress!” And: “Did you find somebody else? Is it a foreign princess? Is she prettier than me? But isn’t it possible that I’m prettier?!”

She finally sends a text insisting that she’s going to be cool about it, but then follows up with a request that he just reply ONCE, with a period, just so that she knows he’s there. She gets impatient, but then one day he replies, with just one period.

She leaps up for joy, jumping up and down with so much excitement that she slips off the fountain…

And who’s there to catch her, but her knight in shining designer suit?

COMMENTS

A much better episode, back to a lot of the lightness that made this show so breezy and fun in the beginning. I certainly hope we stay in this tone for the final stretch, as the monarchy conflict is so overly simplistic, for the drama that they’re trying to milk out of it. What’s nice is that this episode’s drama came from a much more grounded place—losing Grandpa, stepping in to fulfill his dreams, taking responsibility for one’s position, be it Princess or Grandson and Heir.

Thankfully, his death serves to wash the slate clean, so that Seol can’t hide her feelings behind her anger anymore, flimsy reasoning that it was. It’s nice to see our couple being openly expressive and caring, even if they have to spend time apart.

When I think about all that plot spinning that went on over that goddamned royally embroidered pain in my ass, when it was just going to be returned to her like, “Oops, no biggie!” it makes me shake my fists of fury.

But this episode brought a much-needed touch of humor, warmth, and cuteness that brought a big smile to my face. That, and…I love me some Tough Princess, kickin’ ass and takin’ names.

TOTALLY AWESOME EPISODE! Girlfriday, you couldn't have said it any better: "Gotta love a princess who spills her heart online."

I know! She is a girl after my own heart!!! (and to all our dear and beloved dramabeaners, im sure.)

She's totally rockin' it in this episode. She's kickin' ass and standing up to the evil bitch. She wants only the best of the best, the cream of the crop for her teachers, haha! She's playin' it cool while everyone calls HY her P.Kun. She's appreciating grandpa's efforts, giving her post-humous homage. She's reading a lot -- while thinking all HY thoughts. She's dancing senseless in the fountain for getting a text with just a period.

Oh! We can end it all here and we will all be happy, right? That hug in the fountain looked like the final scene: SSH's smile is priceless and to die for! What else does a girl need? Period.

I love love love that final scene....aarghhhh....those perfect toes perched on the edge as she leans into HY's warm and safe embrace.....SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE....that scene is to die for!!!!!! A zillion times better and moreeeee romantic than that awkward kiss!

Hey sam, you notice when the kiss continues, she never hugs him or holds him at all? Still the same rigid posture. But lucky they panned to their faces.....so much better with the close up on the faces....the far away panning made the kiss more awkward. I checked out SSH's kissing scene in East of Eden....he's a great kisser .....which means KTH was the one who made the kiss awkward with her rigid distance. Strange. I'd be grabbing him tight if he were to kiss me like that. Maybe she's shy.

i was wondering the same thing back in episode 13 recap...kim yoonmi helped me a bit with it and it looks like the reason she is not hugging back and flinging her arms around him was that probably the scene required that she hold back a bit. and we see here in episode 14 that after the kiss scene, when they were sharing a meal inside the house (based on GF's recap cos I only saw the raw vid) she wants someone to hate and HY happens to be the most available for her to direct that hatred for the moment. that would maybe explain i think her rigid and somewhat resisting stance.

but you are so right, YY! i also get this uncanny feeling with these two. the body language in the BTS seem to indicate some attraction at least on SSH's side. his onscreen role seems to mingle with his real personality and he is funny and playful with KTH. but she is kinda shy towards him, which could maybe indicate that she's at least aware of him? wishful thinking noonas, haha, that's what we are hahaha!

im keeping tabs on these two even after MP, haha!

"the reason she is not hugging back and flinging her arms around him was that probably the scene required that she hold back a bit."

Exactly why I hate this point in K-dramas.

I don't care what happened to whose father, when a body like The Hand Towel's spends the day outside your door, weeping, telling you HE LOVES YOU and proceeds to kiss and hug you tightly, hungrily. YOU RESPOND accordingly.

Your knees buckle, you open up to him, you enjoy the moment because, quite frankly, the rest of the world disolves in a blur of who cares.

45 mins later, from under the covers, you begin to think again. Seriously, not a second before...

She was an awkward kisser in IRIS as well. In fact she has the exact same facial expression in ep 13's kiss as she did in IRIS, when she and Lee Byn Hun were in Japan for their romantic gateway.
Maybe she IS shy.

@elle: i searched for her other kisses in IRIS and LSIH...some were passably passionate others just bleh...but so are all the other kisses in kdramaland...i dont know if its what the directors asked them to do/story called for them to do. but that's life in this part of the world because, as one commenter in YT said: "...they sell romance and not sex and kisses...". point taken. but wouldnt it be better to have a great kiss with all the romance, too? :-)

@jomo:in kdramaland, you think before you get into anything that might end you up under the covers :-) although i hope the quality of the kisses will improve, if not the quantity, id still hope they don't lose this endearing innocence :-) methinks, we have all the western series with all the wild sex and reckless freedom if we just wanted that :-) but this is just me, hehe...

I'm talking about what she is feeling at that moment, even if they don't act upon it.

I keep bringing up Kim Sam Soon because she was the most realistic in her reactions to Sam Shik.

For goodness sakes, drama Director, why can't Seul just HUG HIM BACK?

0

blame it on the directors, hehe ;-)

you got a point: for her LS character, who is playful and funny, that kiss was kinda out of character, true :-)

0

I have decided to blame the director too :D

0

@Jomo: OMG! I was totally thinking the same thing! Why didn't she hug him back!! It would've been much more sweet and romantic.....*sigh*

Also, it was kinda funny how the door swung a little a 2nd time as well...

I'm super sad that it's ending next week :(

KTH's kissing scenes are usually awkward. This one with SSH is still awkward but is a little better than her previous ones already. I also thinks that she is shy.

I really hope that KTH and SSH can be together in real life. They just look great as a a couple. And their babies would have very long eyelashes....

SSH's eyelashes are so beautiful. I wish I could have those eyelashes!

Hey, this MV showed a better effect of the kissing scene. The backgroud song is sung by SSH.

Shy?? SHY???? If she's shy, then she should move over and let some of us have the chance to work in a job where we get paid to kiss men like SSH and HyunBin!!!! Argghhh!! The breaks some people get...

You sent me racing to find the EOE kiss scene. I saw a few but the best one, IMO, is the one of them on this chair (or is it a bench?). It is so so much better than the one in MP. The MP kiss is nice but it is a little awkward. I'm hoping we get a hot, heavy and well-executed one next week. And, throw in a shower scene as well.

I'll be as happy as our lovely couple, if I see a sexy kiss and Mr Hand Towel in his (partial) birthday suit.

The one , and only one I saw, was in a bed....the morning after! under the covers....he kissed her and she kissed him right back. Pretty hot. I saw on Viki spoilers at one of the earlier eps last week I think...maybe ep 9 or 10?...Try scrolling back to the earlier pages. The girl who's acting in Paradise Ranch now later told in an interview that he's TIMID. She had nice things to say about her other leading men. What a thing to say about poor SSH, and in public too.

He's TIMID? Hmmm... its kinda cute, I think, in a way ;-)

But I think what she's saying has some truth. In interviews, he sorta comes to me as like that. Unlike Hyun Bin who can be very articulate and deep. SSH is a bit like the awkward PHY at the start of MP :-) I think SSH is child-like in some ways; happy go lucky as you said. HB is more mature. But SSH's abs are more developed, hahaha ;-)

0

That was Lee Yeon hee, SSH's co-star in "East of Eden" and if the rumors are to be believed, was in a relationship w/ SSH (methinks she was just playfully yanking SSH's chain).

0

"methinks she was just playfully yanking SSH’s chain..."

..just like a woman scorned, perhaps?

Imma go with dramas too!!

golly, why does SSH smile so much more much more handsomely in front of KTH??? is he for real? (( i am hoping from the deepest of hopes - hehe - that he likes her in real life... )) ... i don't remember him smile in front of Sohn Ye Jin in Summer Scent, or Hye Gyo in Autumn Tale... i don't know if i'm just imagining wrong, but SSH just looks happier in this series (i mean, whenever he was having those sunny and lighthearted scenes with KTH...)

they look so gooooood - like very very so goodie good, together...

thanks for the recap, girlfriday! like always (yupyup), it was very fun to read...

I think SSH has been through more of life than in those films. That, and the part calls for cute, which he rarely gets to do.

My favorite favorite moment in Summer Scent is when he's sitting behind her on the train, then, slowly the other passengers turn the seat around so she ends up facing him.

His "surprise!" smile was the best part of that very very very very long series.

i have a question though. where did jung woo get the original sachet?? i'm kinda confused about that. dan handed to him the sachet she had before to let him verify its authenticity right? and i remember he got a confirmation from someone that it was indeed the real one -- (episode 10). so...... how come he said in the last episode that the one with joon ju and dan's fake?? did he keep the real one and replace it with a fake one?? or... i dunno.. i'm confused!

gumbee, i think the satchel from dan was genuine which she turned over to jung woo for id. but the satchel that jung woo showed back to them was a fake when dan tried to claim she was the real princess. this fake satchel was given to yoonju which she presented as evidence. the real one was still with him all the while which he now presented back to Grandpa. in short, the 2 evil bitches' claim can be rendered null and void because of their use of a fake satchel.

Thank you for one of the funniest recaps EVER! I got up at 0 dark 30 to read it.

I declare that traveling all over the world with HY to be "the best ways to spread Korean culture."
Seriously. Just get on a plane, land in every country in the world, walk around and greet people saying:
"Come to Korea, we ALL look like this."

Shifting the focus to SSH in this episode was a great idea. I prolly watched the raw three times just to see how freaking adorable HY could be.
As a The Hand Towel fan, I am weeping with the beauty of his 14,000 thread count.

My favorite moment - laugh out really loud in a conference room at work - was when the Bodyguard did the really loud burps, laughed in everyone's face, then switched to the serious Palace apology voice. Oh my God!

I have been to Korea many many times. One thing that struck me is how the men (and I don't mean the ajusshis) and the schoolboys look better than the females. It's the Han River water and SSH drinks his upstream. Oh and I didn't see any dudes in white pants - at all! They only appear in Korean dramas and music shows!

"My Princess" Song Seung-heon tells Kim Tae-hee "I miss you 24 hours" fierce kiss

Song Seung-heon passed Kim Tae-hee his desiring love and an electrifying kiss.

On the thirteenth episode of MBC drama "My Princess" on the 16th of February, Park Hae-young (Song Seung-heon) and Lee Seol (Kim Tae-hee) are at risk of parting because of the grudges their fathers had against each other.

Hae-young and Lee Seol go on a vacation of their own and have a sweet time. But after receiving a phone call from Hae-young's dad Lee Seol remembers everything from the past and discovers her father had to run away because of Hae-young's father.

She leaves Hae-young to return to the palace and demands the truth from Chairman Park Dong-jae (Lee Soon-jae), then declares, "I don't want to be princess under the hands of the popel who killed my father. I especially do not want to do it to help you wash away your guilt".

She then tells Hae-young with so much hate and anger, "If you are on my side, then help me not be princess so that your father and your grandfather can live for the rest of their lives in guilt". She leaves for her step mother's pension, doesn't answer Hae-young's calls.

Finally Hae-young goes to meet her but Lee Seol shuts the door coldly saying she has nothing to say. He stands at her front door and desperately confesses, "I am a bad guy I know, but I miss you. I miss you 24 hours, I still miss you now! I love you Lee Seol!"

Crying, Lee Seol opened the door and as if he was waiting for this moment Hae-young kissed her deeply. This was the last scene of this day's episode and made everyone swoon.

After the broadcast viewers left opinions on the bulletin, "Hae-young's confession of love and the kiss was the best", "The kiss scene was so romantic, my heart is still thumping", "This was the best kiss scene I've ever seen. Song Seung-heon and Kim Tae-hee are THE kissers".

YEESSS! Finally.. The previous episodes were starting to get bogged down and boring with the "real" princess storyline with the stupid stepsister, Lee Dan. She should lose herself in America and never come back.
The writers kicked it up a notch! Finally, the couple admit their true feelings for each other, and they get a GREAT KISS in this episode at last!
At last, Lee Seol kicked ass with Yoon Ju to the curb. I hoped she got a big boot up her rear. Loved it. I hoped she doesn't end up with the professor. He 's too nice for her, and I hope he doesn't take her back. She is so delusional that it's all Lee Seol's fault. Yoon Ju is totally twisted. You reap what you sow.
Loved to have Bidam as my teacher too. Real cute. Tee-Hee!

Am I the only one who thinks that our wicked wtch, YJ is still UNREPENTENT? The LOOK she gave when she reported for her new job suggests she still has something up on her sleeves. I suspect she still has "her trump card" for episode 15. She may expose our beloved couple's relationship to the public. As she knows that HY will never marry her, she's using this exposure to spite LS. The netizens may not vote for the royal restoration if by marrying LS, Daehan's fund may indirectly return to HY.

As for HY's not receiving any reply from his dad after 2 recent calls and not hearing from him for 20 years, is there a possibility that his dad's replies to him have been blocked? How is it that witch YJ's call to his dad was immediately retrieved? So I suspect some manipulation here.

I think you are on to something. She looks like she is cooking up another witch's brew! Argggh! I hope it does not become too angsty in the last 2 episodes. We want more cute and a little bit of romp for our diplomat and princess and less or, if possible, no more exposure from the the witches, hehe.

The calls must have been blocked by our resident evil, haha! All evil stems from her twisted mind alone. Poor daddy Park and sonny Park. Oh!

The cutest part of the ep. was when Seol gave HY a dirty look (as they clicked cups) after their friends got to see the Ero-Seol video.

It was kinda weird to see the bodyguard in that group, no longer having the facade of servitude - didn't seem that he really fit in, tho.

Also, didn't quite buy YJ being upset at grandpa's passing since, after all, she previously wanted him dead (or at least incapacitated); she's not as bright as people thought if she didn't see the possibility if her dismissal as curator upon grandpa's death w/ Seol taking over the reigns of the palace.

And man, talk about total delusion - in thinking that the good Prof., whom she had kicked to the curb, would just let her continue to work her evil ways, esp. since the Prof. will do what it takes to ensure that his "living artifact" has her proper place.

Anyway, I'm glad that there wasn't a true love-triangle btwn Seol, HY and the Prof.

Always got the sense that it was more amusement on the Prof.'s behalf re Seol schoolgirl crush and him actually developing real romantic feelings for Seol wouldn't have been believable.

Being a hypocrite, YJ was only shedding crocodile's tears for HY's sympathy, I strongly believe she's cooking up a witch's brew (like what Samgetang said) just to get LS and Hy seperated. I guess ep 15 won't be completely cute and fluffy after all.

0

Required fields are marked *

While that's a possibility, it seems like YJ showed some real concern when HY was frantically trying to get grandpa to wake up, tho that may have been more out of concern for HY.

Also, while it was great to see Seol kick YJ to the curb, she also needs to get rid of YJ's palace spy/snitch/head lady in waiting.

Funny how the posts are turning into a somewhat SSH discourse. Ppl seem to hv stopped commenting abt his lack of acting skills after he turns in cute performances in MP. I am one of those who fell hard for Eoe n thought he wasn't wooden (in the minority I know) good to know he still has followers in this age of tween n idol boy bands. He is a hot Korean male whose looks has stood the test of time so far. Which is more than I can say for a particular Kwon Sang Woo who is the same age . SSH chose the right project this time

@Samgetang--Didn't we call it? Beginning of the episode, he says, "I like you because you are unpredictable." ^_^

And you still can see his political machine going.

Why did he leave? Of course for his father.

I expect a very neat wrap up (No bow tie). We need an answer to the "Can't you be my woman instead?"

I loved, loved him this episode as well. PHY-ssi.

I also take the door slamming scene as kind of an admiration. Because he leans back just slightly, like, "This is why I like you." Because when she opened the door and he wasn't expecting it... he grinned.

I also love how he is cool with Seol taking the reigns and even suggests and supports it. While he goes and sorts out the last of the business with his father. That was really good.

I'll say it again--if you find this kind of man, marry him! An equal that respects your boundaries and even encourages them is a man you want.

PHY may have started out arrogant, but when we saw that slowly fall and also see how much of a front it was for his insecurities.... Very good.

As for LS I'm happy she's finally gotten control and took that control from PHY. She's learned a lot from him and it shows...

Thumbs up for a safe wrap up.

Though I'm surprised the mother card wasn't pulled at all. That's often rare in K-dramas about adoption.

HY is still arrogant, but his arrogance was always more about being very, very confident in himself (despite his insecurities).

And while his arrogance has been tempered whenever he is w/ Seol, he still can't help himself from one-uping "rivals" like the Prof. and his replacement/Seol's teacher.

Required fields are marked *

I meant in comparison to the SG lead, Joo Won. I thought SSH was going to take PHY in that direction, but he's tempered PHY quite a bit and subtly.

I would take that he's more competitive, rather than feeding that directly into his arrogance. His arrogance is a demonstration for the competitive nature rather than reversed... plus he takes it less seriously in this episode--i.e. it's presented more as a joke than a serious matter like in the early episodes.

I can't forget the house party scene, when HY's video is discovered as wild/"porno"" and after LS' initial embarrassment, she purses her lips together twice and strokes her hair as if she was turned on by what happened and excited that HY would consider her sexy/pretty. Check it out and let me know your opinions.

Also, when she looks at HY, while he's in the kitechen with Prof. Nam, there was "desire/love" on LS' part and HY was surprised to catch her "scoping him out". Precious! Their subtlety is what makes the chemistry between them totally believable. They make such a sexy couple

Yes! I'm on board with you on this one. She was quite flustered at the suggestion that they be alone. And then even more flustered when she found out it was all a trick.

The acting is great in this respect. There are layers to be had in the acting.

It's the subtle acting and storytelling that makes me love this drama. I was ready for blunt objects at the beginning, but I was smiling when I found out it could deliver on more levels. Kim Eun Sook has progressed from Lovers in Paris (as long as she doesn't pull that ending again. Gah.). I think she's balanced out and finally found a way to get the subtle plot points to balance out. I will expect more of this variety from her in the future.

@Kim Yoonmi:

It was quite a long read but I was totally engaged.

Thank you... you couldn't have said them any better! I like so many things that you said in your many posts.

Hmmm...where to begin? ;-)

First-off, I also like the things that you like about MP: the subtlety, HY's political-savvy, LS's people-savvy, the nice, even pacing, the wonderful mix of cute fluff and brainy stuff, the fact that the somebody who is ten steps AHEAD of the story is actually the HERO of the story, and the fact that the somebody who we think is ten steps BEHIND than everybody else, and who happens to be the heroine, is in fact actually NOT BEHIND at all but is moving towards the same direction, and when hero finds out about this he lets her have the floor and lets her shine the most.

I think that's about it.

Secondly, and unfortunately, many of those who watch rom-coms might not be searching for these same elements hence the reason why they throw in the towel (did i hear all of you say, hand towel?ha.) when the brainy stuff goes on overdrive and there is some lack in the cute fluff. These things look and sound foreign to them so that when any of these hits them right smack to their faces they will not recognize it for all its worth. So I don't sweat the small stuff when others don't meet with me eye-to-eye in these aspects. To each his own, is probably true, especially on this very subjective area of "like". How can anyone make another person like what he/she likes if they have no inclination at all to do so? Unless, of course, that person already built a relationship with the other person can the barrier be broken, so to speak, and there might be some consideration to view it from the other's perspective.

I feel that's about it.

Thirdly, our personal context, world-view and value-system influence a lot how we perceive the things around us. The very reason why others like a certain kiss and many are bleh about it while a few are repelled even. Media exposure certainly plays a major part, too.

I sense that's about it.

Finally, I think, I feel, I sense LOVE in, for and from My Princess. That's basically why I like/love it ;-)

Thank you again, Yoonmi.

PS The kids were amazing today in my volunteer work :-) but that would be another LOVE story for the books. By the way, please let me know if I can read any of your novels/chick lit stuff...Im very very interested to read them...if you will allow me. :-)

And let me add another important stuff (not brainy stuff at all, but more of heart/mind/soul stuff, the stuff where some old-fashioned values come from):

PHY is portayed here as politically savvy. For someone in that mold to be genuinely attracted to a girl, that girl has to have more than just what meets the eye. In the beginning, we we're all taken in by LS's bubbly character. We we're made to believe that she was dreamy, shallow, free with her affections, playful, dense. Nothing more. Some even thought she can't be thinking of seriously taking in the Princess part. She won't last long in that demanding role. They we're seeing her from the eyes of YJ. But, even that early PHY saw that something in her that would perfectly fit the Princess role to a "T". I think this was the main reason he did a double-take on his earlier plan to foil the monarchy restoration plan. Diplomat-teachers like PHY are people nurturers and builders, they see people from the eyes of a mentor, molder, encourager. And LS was a fitting and strong vessel, a pliable clay, she is made of sterner stuff than what others are led to believe. He is proven true when she finally steps up to the plate. It was not just for the cutesy that the writers gave him the role of her teacher. He loved doing that stuff...seeing others grow under his tutelage is his passion and mission. His billion-won question to her to choose between being the princess or his woman is the turning point. When he saw she was ready that's when he started letting go of the reigns and backing off. It's time for his student to shine.

Throughout all of these, the romance does not take a back seat but is rather interwoven in the political arena, adding spice to the Make-her-into-a-Princess Project. For a politically savvy guy, his taste for political intrigue and machinations were drawn to this unpredictable girl. You are right, Yoonmi. His lust for politics was his downfall, haha! She was totally out of his league. She was not brainy in the IQ aspect but her EQ was brilliant. (And in life we know those with high EQ become more successful than those with just high IQ to tide them over.) We saw that in the way she dealt with the palace staff, the way she related with other people. But he was wondering whether she'd have the balls so to speak, to kick some ass in the palace. Her answer to his billion-won question was the most crucial answer of all. He saw that she was not mesmerized by the idea of being a Princess but will she be strong enough in the face of romance, even if it was to him? His knack for difficult questions that challenge the loyalties and political will of people went into that one question. He is willing to risk his very own position to test other's loyalties and his own. It was crucial that the Princess is not only adept at handling other people but more so him. If she went easy on him, in his eyes she may not be the best person for the Princess role...especially His Princess. :-) I think he loves that despite her flaws and all, she always butt heads with him, meets with him halfway if necessary but keeps him guessing and asking for more. So in the end the Make-her-into-a-Princess Project turned out to be the Make-her-into-My-Princess Project but she wouldn't get past that, in his book, if she did not pass the Strong Princess test first. And the only reason she passed that is she did not desire to be his woman at all costs but she wanted to be his woman with all the costs.

On a personal level, women always wanted to be treated like a Princess by their men, just like PHY to LS, but unless we are willing to be that man's woman WITH all the costs we will keep on getting the low-end of the bargain because it costs a lot to be the Princess of someone who is worthy of your love: self-control, self-discipline, responsibility, integrity and dignity.

And I love that kind of man too...

PHY is respectful, but wants to raise his woman to better standards. He accepts her flaws and sees her short comings and tries to both work with it and help her change the things she wants and needs to change over time. It's the meeting of the 50% 50% and willing to bend, but also push back that makes me really respect PHY. He doesn't mind his woman pegging him down a few for going out of line. And he loves his woman's unpredictable nature.

That's absolute love and the kind of love you can have faith that will last for years and years to come in a healthy relationship--because it's a perfect balance of give and take. They raise each other up when they need it, but aren't afraid of giving each other a reality check or backing off when need be.

Plus this was a brilliant episode for Seol also showing the same kind of respect towards PHY. When he did the press conference, though she was upset at the damage caused, she was more upset at his loss of face rather than that he did it at all. And the separation in this episode wasn't forced--you knew it had to happen from episode 1. And she respected his distance (the whole, just send me a period because I know you're busy.)

It's not PHY-ssi I want... It's that type of relationship. Mutual respect, admiration and ability to keep your independence in the relationship. Because PHY doesn't try to rescue his princess from a tower, 100%, he tries to raise her up and cheer her on to get down herself. And that for me is a *perfect* relationship.

LS grew a lot while PHY was running around.

It might also be that I'm not into 100% cute all the time every time, with deep kisses because I've watched SOOOO many Korean dramas. I want my story with the cute too. I believe this drama has that.

(And Sam Dong from Dream High, You better get the girl *shakes fist* Otherwise the writer has *no* taste in men. Seriously. JG *leaves* comes back, kisses the girl, and then expects everything to be the same and to go around *rescuing* her. Hell no. Just saying. Might be the acting too.)

I'm hoping for a good ending. I enjoyed the Just Deserts. I predict a montage of LS-HY. I'm not sure about a circular ending. However, I think the strawberry hair tie is going to play in a little. The grandfather is going to show in the montage and the President is going to SOOO get it with Hae Young standing by LS's side.

I also get a feeling that this drama will pull a little bit of the "And life went on." For example, with the professor teaching in a classroom.

I'm putting a guess that there will be a nice wrap up for the secretary and that people who thought the secretary did everything are wrong, wrong wrong.

Hae Young's father will return, and of course our main couple will at least be kissing at the end, if not (High hopes) A nice wedding. I'm doubting kids at this point since that was done in SG and was needed... I'm not sure here that the stuff written needs kids. (Though HY flirting about going inside the house and bedroom... OMG...) But I would like a wedding... even if costly for the production crew. I think that would be a nice close to the "Be my woman" comment and then maybe end with them stealing some time alone in the palace while bickering--which would fit with the nature of this drama.

That's my prediction.

So true, my dear Kim Yoonmi (are you Korean, by the way?)

I just finished watching epi 14 with eng subs...so much better! I gained a lot of additional insights than when I just relied on the recaps and watching it raw.

PHY is the diplomat that he is to the very end. He respects that LS needed time to think over where she wants the relationship to go. He does not force the issue on her but lets her make the decision on her own; but not without any strategic move on his part. Before grandpa's death she said she needed to blame someone for her father's death and he was the most convenient. He accepted that but declares that he wants to be her man and hope she will not keep him too far away. But he knows how women's minds work (contrary to how he conveyed himself as clueless about women when they first met....perhaps he was just playing with her all along...intrigued that she thought of him as clueless...but because of that she had her guard down with him which afforded them time to know each other in a neutral way, without any romantic intentions). He knew that by making himself unreachable, unattainable for that span of time, he upped his value to her. After saying not to keep him too far away, why would he then suddenly make himself too unavailable? Pure genius. Its now her time to miss him. And miss him she did that even just a "period" from him would be enough already. PHY is a genius both in politics and in love, haha! :-)

I'm Kim Hae. ^.~ For Koreans they know what that means. Thus my dislike of Kim Suro, the drama was for a really good reason. ^.~

But I'm also adopted, so that's why I'm very surprised at the really great handling of adoption. I have to put a big thumbs down to that nun in the foster center. Saying adoptee memories is wrong is really ignorant--but I like the remedy to that by countering it with LS's memories and showing how wrong the nun was. But Kim Tae Hee seems to get Lee Seol's adoption issues very well and understand the complexities of being adopted as well as the handling by the writers.

I just wish that Dan was a bit better rounded out--I mean while LS balances her out, I think the writing could have addressed a little more what it feels like to feel like an object through the adoption system with her. Not so much empathy or sympathy, but understanding of the complexities of what it must have been like to feel like she was only adopted because of LS and the feeling of abandonment through her character. Maybe then the actress would catch up then.

Overall, this has been the best portrayal of adoption in all K-drama history. The second one being the movie My Father and the Please Teach Me English as the third best portrayal of adoption.

I really had lost hope that Korea could turn around the adoption issues into an even portrayal after having to sit through crap like, "I'm Sorry I Love You." and some of the lower key bad ones like "What Star Did You Come From" and "My Sister in Law is 16." Watching the progress is nice.

The United States has been putting out adoption crap since Adopted, Problem Child, etc... so watching one of my two countries catch up is really nice to see. (I'll be honest and say I think the US has gone backwards on some social issues... Last Airbender, anyone?)

Plus I love, love LOVE how the cast and writers handled the adoption, from not making any singular parent the "evil" one, to the sensitivity the characters have towards adoption and adoption issues... such as with the small touches, like the family register--she can't choose both, despite that both are in her heart. And little things like PHY *knowing* for a fact that what he's about to do with the runaway Prince and making her choose between her family members will hurt her. It's those small touches that makes me think that this drama *gets* it. For ONCE!

Adoptees really don't want to be made to choose 90% of the time. But society often forces us to choose. And that is portrayed wonderfully throughout this drama in subtle ways.

BTW, if you combine SG's last flashes of memory with a little pain and then impressions like in this episode, that's about a perfect 10 about how lost memories and regaining them often work. Thumbs up on the research.

Korean, but claiming to both heritages fully.

PHY's movements often make me wonder how many girlfriends he had before LS. He was hounding her about it--so what is his score board. I don't think this drama will answer that question, but he's so smooth with LS at times that it makes me wonder if he doesn't have previous GFs under his belt.

A Royal Grand Wedding would be really lovely but I hope they make it more special, more intimate, more relevant. Perhaps a simple wedding with people in attendance online? haha! Would be characteristic of our social-media savvy Seol, haha!I don't know. I'd give the writers that opportunity to surprise me.

In grandpa's deathbed when he acknowledged what HY did at the Press Conference and thanked him for releasing him from his burden, he finally said that he thinks HY deserves to take care of the Princess. It is nice to know that it was only love that made it possible for HY to transcend from his previous arrogance in fighting the restoration of the monarchy. LS and his love for LS were instrumental for him finding his worth in the eyes of his grandfather, one that has plagued him all his life. This is really an awesome episode to see grandpa and grandson see their redemption. The next episodes we shall see the son, hopefully having his say in the matter. And you are right, the strawberry hairtie will be play a major role here.

And maybe Yoonju will make her last attempt to rock the boat to her favor using now HY's father. Awesome how she was dumped here three times by first, the Prof, second, by Seol and finally by her own father. Im scared what she will try to do with the construction business, argh! Build a faulty palace building? Yikes. She is not beyond this as we can see...

But we see the Prof doing an awesome thing for her. Maybe in the end, she will also be redeemed. If she plays her cards right she must see that she has a good man in the Prof. But I hope the Prof gets a better girl, hehe. For now, he has the makings of a cultural attache for the Princess and her agenda for the palace. Ministry of Culture is not a far sight for this guy. I like how his friendship with HY has developed in support of the Princess personally and for the monarchy.

Cant wait for the last 2 episodes ;-) Frankly I like MP better than Goong because of the characterizations and the political twists and turns.

I am totally in agreement with you on your detailed character analysis of our beloved princess Lee Seol!
At the party scene in episode 14, professor was shocked when HY commented " We haven't had a drink with our Lee Seoi" and gave him a bemused look.
That reply,"She's not the typical kind of cute!" to me SUMS up his opinion of her and explains why he was smitten with her right from his first encounter with her until he fell completely for her. He knows she is "not the typical kind of cute" girl all right!

Gah, finally! What I've been waiting forrr!

Frcking adorable couple, the two of'em should've done rom-coms long time ago! To think my original impression of Kim Tae-Hee was stuck back in her Stairway to Heaven days *shivers*

Can someone say ka-yuuuuuuuuute?

I really 'hated' KTH in her stepsister role in Stairway to Heaven. She was good... I don't understand why people thinks she can't act, she can... but may excel in certain type of roles better than the others.

Same with SSH. I do think he is pretty good in EoE. He always seem to gravitate towards serious roles so I was pleasantly surprised at how SSH managed to pull off the role of PHY in MP.

PHY has piggybacked, nursed, changed, fed, cleaned and tied LS's hair .. not to mention his heart melting love confession. this is the ultimate fairy tale. what a drama to start the year. Has to be the best romcom couple this year!

This drama is not too complicated that gives me a light feeling....and makes me think "SONG SEUNG HUN AND KIM TAE HEE MAKE THE BEST COUPLE EVER!!
