My Princess: Episode 10

Finally, a conflict I can get behind, that isn’t motivated by press conferences and public opinion. Hae-young spends the episode in a frustrated snit, but it leads him to finally make a choice, and forces Seol to face some harsh facts of her own. Is it Love or Country? Kisses or Kings? And why’s a girl gotta sell out her country to get some smooches up in here?

EPISODE 10 RECAP

It’s the Love-Square-Face-Off, as Yoon-ju calls both men to pick her up, and then goes running to Hae-young in a hug. That puts Hae-young face to face with Seol, and Yoon-ju facing Jung-woo, as they hug and talk, but not really to each other.

Hae-young, eyeing Seol the whole time, tells her that he’ll always come if she calls, no matter what, and that she should have waited inside. Yoon-ju, looking right at Jung-woo, says that she just wanted to see him that much sooner. Dude, you people have ISSUES.

Hae-young tells Yoon-ju quietly that he’s not the one she waited for, but he’s going to take her hand and leave with her anyway. Yoon-ju catches on right away that this display is for Seol’s benefit, and tells Hae-young that he owes her one.

They start to walk away, but Seol bursts out, “Don’t go! Mr. P, don’t go!” Oh, you’re breaking my heart. I love that she’s not too proud to just tell him not to go. But alas, Mr. P must stand for Mr. Poopyhead, because he goes anyway.

Back at Dumpsville, Seol and Jung-woo sit dejected, until the professor offers to buy her something sweet, because that’s what people eat when they get rejected. I adore that you’re being nice to Seol, even though you’ve also taken a beating.

Hae-young drops Yoon-ju off and then returns to the palace, only to find that Seol still hasn’t returned and isn’t answering her phone. Neither is Jung-woo, which worries him as he paces around looking for her.

He finally finds her in the palace making ramen, on a portable stove no less. What happened to Gunnie the personal chef? He’d probably make you a ramen with smiley face chives or something.

The second he walks into the room, Seol tries to make a run for it, but she keeps getting tripped up over what to do with the half-cooked ramen, and he uses it as an excuse to keep her there. He starts out lecturing her as always, but then ends up asking worriedly why she didn’t pick up her phone. Seol: “To make your insides stew a little!” Ha. I do love her forthrightness. He realizes that he set himself up for that in leaving her there, but then to hide his feelings, he tells her, “Men’s insides don’t burn over women they formally rejected…Also, I don’t like milk.” Aaaargh.

Jung-woo returns home only to find Yoon-ju standing in his doorway. He watches silently as she hesitates, and then tries the old lock code on the door. It works. Satisfied with that, she turns to walk away and runs into Jung-woo.

She asks why he never changed the code, and he makes the excuse that it’s just a hassle. She says, eyes getting teary, that it’s a comfort to her. Gah, I feel the worst for Jung-woo because he has the utter misfortune of loving (or even having loved) such a stone-cold former human.

The next morning Seol wakes up to a giant mound of fan mail. Hae-young wakes up and checks the news, and finds Seol’s popularity on the rise. She’s even updated her website with a selca of her opening her fan mail. He laughs, and so do I, at the thought that this is what a 21st-century princess does to gain public favor. It’s not unlike being an idol star or an actress, and the meta in that is quite apt.

She calls him asking for advice on how to respond to her numerous letters of the I’m-in-love-with-you variety, and he jumps up to tell her to ignore them. She decides that she’s going to respond to every single comment and letter (yeah, good luck with that) and thinks that he’s best to advise, since he’s not one to “burn his insides” over her. Heh. Way to throw his own words back at him.

He tells her the internet is off-limits for a while, and tells her not to respond to anything, about anything. She wonders what difference it makes, if she answers questions honestly (about everything except her weight, heh).

He explains that every little question—whether she likes taxis or buses, red or blue—can be twisted to have political implications, which is why she shouldn’t answer. Well the red or blue question would certainly be a biggie in the States. She catches his drift, and then can’t help but ask if she shouldn’t answer this question then: Does she like Mr. P?

Getting in her face, he tells her not to answer that one, ever. She asks if even THAT is a political matter, and he tells her it’s the most political of them all. Oooh. True, but you’re the one who’s making it so, Mr. Diplomat. He also keeps her palace-bound unless she has his permission.

Hae-young gets called away to meet the President, who thinks it’s time he enter the palace in a formal capacity. Hae-young says that the princess isn’t ready for that, and tries to buy some more time. The President decides that he’ll have to bring her out of the palace then, and decides that an event at an orphanage should do the trick.

Yoon-ju meets with her father to discuss marriage plans, and she tells him that she’s going through with the wedding, and that Hae-young won’t be losing his fortune to the monarchy.

Secretary Oh tells Yoon-ju a critical piece of news—that Hae-young has found out about his father’s involvement in the death of Seol’s father. He says that no one knows the truth about how he really died, except for Hae-young’s dad, and he’s been MIA ever since.

Seol tries to get in touch with Dan, but Evil Sister is still fuming and doesn’t respond. Seol gets a call from her friend and promises to go see her, but Hae-young reminds her that she’s not going anywhere today.

She starts in on an excuse that her friend’s father’s father’s father died…but she’s clearly not so good at math since that puts us somewhere in the last century. He points it out (in the tone of do-you-think-I’m-an-idiot) and gives her homework on top of it.

At home, Dan stews and then finds a receipt on Mom’s phone for the flowers she sent to Seol. She throws another tantrum at Mom, upset that she’s always worked so hard to be the best, but Mom’s always loved Seol more. Oy, with your six-year-old woes, grown woman.

Mom cries and insists that she’s always loved her two daughters equally, but Dan remains frigid, even at Mom’s deluge of tears. I’m thinking, sociopath from an early age? I mean, what’s with you, robot girl? Or is it bad acting? I kind of can’t tell.

While Yoon-ju plots Seol’s demise with the opposition leader, Seol takes out yesterday’s note from Hae-young and swoons over it. How cute. But then she discovers that the note is written on a piece of an airline ticket, so she storms over to Hae-young to ask what it’s about.

She asks him in this hilarious mix of jondae and banmal, which he takes offense at, insisting that he’s her teacher, but she reminds him that she’s the royalty around here. She demands to know where he’s planning on sending her this time, but he tells her that it’s his ticket, and not to worry about it.

In their lesson today, he teaches her not to answer questions off the cuff, and throws a few out there about her favorite color: blue, and favorite singer: John Park, until he asks her favorite book. Seol: “The (female) Professor’s Evil Desire” He whirls around: “You read erotica?” Hahaha.

Seol: “…is NOT what I was going to say…It’s Tolstoy’s What Do People Live For?” Hae-young: “They live for erotica, apparently.” HA. He adds, “You’re not Lee Seol. You’re Ero-Seol.” (Which is a better pun in Korean.)

He tells her that the best way to deflect unanswerable questions is with a timely joke. She scoffs that her well-honed sense of humor is totally up to the task, so he tests her.

Hae-young: Do you like Park Hae-young, or Professor Nam?
Seol: … … I like all men.
Hae-young: Wanna die?

LOL. You told her to deflect with a joke. That’s what you get. She now starts deflecting his questions with her Mishil-speak, as he throws question after question. He casually tosses out, “When did you start liking Mr. P?”

She stammers, then realizes that he’s the one asking all the questions, so she starts tossing out ones of her own, following him out of the room. She asks if he still doesn’t want her to be the princess, but he doesn’t answer.

Jung-woo meets with Dan to ask about the royal satchel, but she refuses to answer, pretending that she wants to protect her sister from being kicked out of the palace. My ass. Even Jung-woo suspects that there’s something shady about the sister and the satchel, but can’t get anything else out of her.

Yoon-ju gives Seol the news that she’s been requested to do some charity work at the orphanage where she grew up, alongside the President. Yoon-ju scoffs at Seol’s bright attitude at being summoned to be the President’s cheerleader, but Seol just hilariously tells her that it’s a good deed, and she can get that “President ajusshi” to do some good work. Ha! Who calls the President “ajusshi”? She cracks me up.

She meets with Jung-woo, who tells her that Dan might have the satchel, but she’s not being very forthcoming, on top of which she’s wary because someone else has approached her about the very same thing. Jung-woo, ever the smart one (and thank god for that, really), tells her that Dan is likely someone who does NOT want her to be a princess.

He tells her that their biggest worry is that satchel. Seol: “Because it might be fake?” Jung-woo: “Because it might be real. Because then, we have no way of proving that it’s yours.” Well who didn’t smell that plot hole from a mile away? I’m just glad someone’s pointing it out to her before her sister knocks her upside the head with it.

Seol gets to work making some soup to take to the orphanage, and this time she enlists Gunnie’s help. He adorably teaches her how to cook with love (as in putting her love into what she makes), and Hae-young walks in on their cozy little scene.

He’s got jealous-exasperated-face, so Gunnie scoots out with a wink. Seol wonders what the big deal is, but Hae-young lays into her for agreeing to go to the orphanage without consulting him. She doesn’t see it as a big deal, which just makes him start yelling, that this is why he can’t let her out in the world, since she’s so clueless about everything. Well you can’t yell cynicism into her. She’s just that trusting. You should know, Mr.-tried-to-be-her-enemy-but-she-trusted-you-so-much-it’s-killing-you.

She cuts the tension with her Mishil act, and that calms him down as he tells her to stop watching sageuks. But he tells her to stop cooking, since she’s not going to that orphanage, ever! Once he leaves, she shouts back that SHE’s going to decide where she goes, without his permission! Then why are you shouting it when he’s gone?

Seol marches in to tell Yoon-ju that she’s going, and that’s that, no matter what Hae-young says. Yoon-ju’s like, yeah I’m the one who told you to go. She adds condescendingly that the princess ought to wear something pretty and go.

All of a sudden, Seol changes her mind. She realizes that Yoon-ju’s insistence that she go is the one indicator she can trust—that she shouldn’t go. Heh. At least you’re not that trusting a fool.

She decides to change the plan, and invites the children from the orphanage to the palace. She watches with happy tears in her eyes, as they run around and play, especially touched at the sight of two little girls running together hand-in-hand.

Hae-young goes to see Grandpa in a scene lit so drastically dark that it’s actually kind of funny. He asks about his father, wanting to believe that it’s some sort of misunderstanding, and that he couldn’t be responsible for the death of Seol’s father. Grandpa tells him that it’s what he might want to believe, but he’s certain that Hae-young’s dad is responsible.

Well at least that’s much more compelling as a reason for Hae-young to keep his distance from Seol, though it’s not a new plot, by any means. I’d like for once, to have a k-drama couple dig into their past and find out that their fathers were fishing buddies or something.

Yoon-ju, meanwhile, meets with Dan about the satchel. Yoon-ju out-bitches her in a round of you-show-me-yours, and overdoes it to the point that Dan storms out, with the declaration that Yoon-ju’s not the only one she can go to. Once she’s gone, Yoon-ju has her followed to figure out why she’s not the only game in town anymore.

Sure enough, Dan goes straight to Jung-woo, to tell him that she’s got the satchel. She presents it, and he nearly has an orgasm at the sight of it. He’s a little embarrassed at his er, love of history, but that’s the proof she needs to trust him with it, to at least find out the truth. She entrusts him with it to find out if it’s the real deal, adding for good measure that it’s hers. Like a little girl never stole something of her sisters and claimed it as her own? I really hope this isn’t going to be as obvious as it seems.

Seol reads Snow White to the kids, and Hae-young comes upon the scene and asks what’s going on. She says that since he told her not to go to the orphanage, she brought the kids here. He doesn’t really complain, until he finds out that she invited the President here too. Okay, maybe you ARE an idiot.

The second the President arrives, the so-called photo-op turns into an impromptu press conference, and Seol walks into it with trepidation, only NOW realizing what Hae-young was talking about. Gah.

They get fired with questions, and the President sits with ease, while Seol panics. Hae-young hesitates for a moment, and then steps in front of them to tell the reporters that there’s no political implication in the meeting, and extracts her before they can ask her any questions. Or at least before she can answer any.

Once out of earshot, she asks why he’s making such a fuss. Wait, so you STILL don’t understand what’s going on? Hae-young can’t believe it either, that she’s really so thoughtless that she doesn’t get the score. He spells it out for her: she’s being used.

He literally has to spell it out for her piece by piece, that the President is using her, at her expense and the orphanage. She finally gets it and stammers that she didn’t know, which he says is true, but she can’t get by not knowing these things anymore. Seriously. Well maybe since you know that she’s this naïve, you should do a better job of spelling these things out BEFORE she’s facing a firing squad of reporters.

He also has to spell out the implications of what he’s done, as a diplomat, in stepping in to save her. He tells her that she doesn’t realize what’s he’s put on the line for her. She gasps (it’s actually laughable that she has to be told every little thing before she gets it). She runs after him, but can’t bring herself to knock on his door.

Jung-woo gets word that the satchel is the real deal. Now comes the hard part of proving ownership.

Seol returns to her room, crying, and Hae-young broods. He finally makes a decision, and as the music swells, he walks down the hall towards Seol. Yoon-ju stops to ask if he’s crazy, doing that to the President, but he just brushes past her.

He knocks on Seol’s door, and when she answers, he comes out with it.

Hae-young: Let me ask you just one thing. Can’t you not be the princess? Is it really something you’d rather die than give up? Can’t you just not be a princess…and live as my woman instead?

O.M.G.

COMMENTS

Finally, a relationship gauntlet thrown! I was scared we were going to go yet another round of press conferences and Noble Idiocy. It’s high time the heroine get a dose of reality (even if it has to be spelled out for her like she’s a grade-schooler) and be given a real fork in the road—to choose between Hae-young and the throne.

Thankfully, there’s probably a bunch of different ways out than just those two roads, but it’s important for her to be given the dilemma, for the drama’s sake. At least now she’s got something real to choose between and fight for, if she knows how Hae-young feels, and what’s really at stake. Much, much better. Whew.

It’s admittedly a little frustrating that Seol is such a blockhead about the implications of every little thing she says and does, but I suppose that’s the point of her character, that’s she’s so naïve while everyone around her is so smart and tied to his/her own motivations.

But couldn’t she be like, a hair smarter, a teensy bit more aware, a tad quicker on the uptake? I like her unwavering trust and simplistic nature, but the stupidity is a little annoying. Especially since her character was made out to be so street-savvy in the beginning. Where’d all that resourcefulness go?

I’m happy with the direction we’re headed in, as long as Hae-young doesn’t pull an I’m-kidding-I-take-it-back or something, and as long as Seol begins to factor in all the pieces of the puzzle as she faces the big decisions. And would it hurt if you gave her another kiss to help sway her? ‘s all I’m sayin’.

My theory about why LS can't be a princess and his woman at the same time are the following:

1. It would be unwise for HY to have a relationship with the princess since his grandpa gave their wealth for its restoration. People would think that HY is only using her to bring back his lost inheritance and power that Dae Han group has.

2. HY is a diplomat, a public servant. I think it wouldn't be nice for him as a teacher to fall in love with his student. What would the nation think about it?

3. LS became an orphan because it was said that HY's dad was responsible for his death. She now faces different issues about her two dads because of it. Maybe he's feeling guilty about? Maybe, if she gives up being a princess, she won't need to clear everything up in front of everyone.. or making him choose between the two?

4. Also, he was at first an enemy of LS in terms of her position as a princess. He was actually placed in that position having an ulterior motive of not letting her pursue being the princess. He was an ally of the President before, but as he betrayed his trust to him, the consequences could be fatal. HUMILIATING a President in front of the media isn't a joke! It would be harder for him to have a relationship with her since he just made the most powerful person in a country his enemy.

5. Lastly, if LS gives up being the princess, they could live a peaceful life, away from different responsibilities for the nation and also, they could their lives without putting a mask on, meaning, making themselves pleasing to everyone. Come on, being a princess is really a boring task. Yes, you might have lots of wealth, prestige and honor but you have lots of responsibilities to do. You need to show the whole nation that you are capable of being respected. LS's personality isn't like that, she's too kindhearted and naive that people around her can easily manipulate her. She easily trusts anyone. Also, she's too bubbly for a life as a princess. And HY's maybe tired of these threats to the princess making their "relationship" harder to maintain..

These are just my theories. I firmly believe on Theory no. 1 and 5. I don't know if you also think the same way. Just correct me if there's something wrong.

i agree! you've got some good theories there!

got a slightly diff take on #1 tho. i think if dae han's grandson ends up with the princess, it may seem as if the grand gesture of donating all their wealth to the monarchy was just a ploy to gain public favor. if in the end, it all ends up within the Dae Han family anyway, then it also casts suspiciousness upon the true reasons behind the restoration of the monarchy. it would look as if Dae Han group purposefully did this to gain political clout and rule over Korea. the princess would be viewed as a puppet or in cahoots with the Evil Corporation. the public backlash against Dae Han and the monarchy may be disastrous.

Hm, if it had been a Prince who gave up the throne for a woman, most of us would likely think it The Most Romantic Thing Ever, and swoon after the ex-Prince. However, if a Princess gives up her throne for a man, I think unfortunately we'd think less of her, somewhat akin to giving up her independence?

I agree with your take on #1. It's good! And I also definitely agree with. Maybe that's the main reason, why HY insists on giving up her position as the princess.

Maybe its just me, but I liked the part when the kids told her she wasn't prettier than snow white because she didn't have a prince and then she said.. the prince is right here and grabbed on to HY. Cute!

Awh.. I wish they gave a preview for episode 11. Can't wait to see what happens.

next ep 11 is very tough decision for Soel.
i dont think she will give up love and her role
as a princess. My be he afraid that she will find out
that his father was the one who had a motive to kill
her father. that will ruin the relationship.
HMMMM sound like it is a difficult decision.

Dang! I feel sorry for Professor Nam.What a doormat. He is being played like a fool.He should change his password to his door and give Yoon Ju the heave-ho!
I love the scene where Yoon Ju and Lee Dan tried to out Bi-otch each each. Why is the sachet so important? Just because Lee Dan says it's hers or it's in her possession. Why don't they do the DNA testing to see who is the REAL princess? Case closed.
Lee Seol can't give up being a princess yet. Only a momentary set back because there are more episodes to go. Too early for that. Love the angst but it's a No - Brainer and Lee Seol isn't too bright. She is too naive and has to have everything explained to her. I hope she wises up later and stop being so stupid. She's starting to irritate me and needs to get slap on the side of her head.

Ditto. I thought she looked so angelic in that pretty dress and she looks radiant in that part. I also love the part where the kids swarm around LS & HY because they were promised food until the henchman interrupted them with the the photo-op reminder. They were full of smiles with the kids and then HY turned sour face when he found out the President is there. :-)

It's how to get it to go down that's the problem. Like climbing up a hill and not knowing how to get down. So you're forever stuck up yonder.

I only watch Mp for one reason and one reason only...the chemistry between Hae Young and lee Seol. Other than that this drama is not worth watching. The storyline has too many potholes and apart from Kim Tae Hee (who is giving a killer performance BTW) the rest of the main cast doesn't connect with the characters that they are playing. This could be the fault of the writers, but nevertheless the acting is one dimensional. I could have gotten behind the script if it didn't fall into the realm of a cookie cutter romantic comedy. Why does there always have to be a bad guy? Did they learn nothing from Coffee Prince? Now that was a great drama, great storyline, great acting and commitment to the characters, we had angst without an evil villain, it was just exciting to watch.

she got knocked in the head shortly after Seol was born, got amnesia, forgot her real age and became a curator to a museum with silly hair-do to conceal her head injury.

i don't think seol will say yes for being HY women bcoz she already told the media that she will be a princess..so, it's hard for her to take back her word for giving up the princess position..but i also think that she will not say no bcoz deep in her heart, she love HY..so i think she will be quiet only and said that she's tired and move back to her room..or, she will close the door and crying..lol well, that's what in my mind..btw i hope that they will kiss hahaha..yeah, that is important..lol but i've read somewhere that the kiss at the stair was their 1st kiss and last kiss scene for this drama..hoping that it is just a rumor..

"She cuts the tension with her Mishil act, and that calms him down as he tells her to stop watching sageuks. But he tells her to stop cooking, since she’s not going to that orphanage, ever! Once he leaves, she shouts back that SHE’s going to decide where she goes, without his permission! Then why are you shouting it when he’s gone?"

*sniff* It wasn't a Mishil act it was a DAE JANG GEUM act. Wrong Sageuk... Or are you afraid the kiddies won't know that sageuk? I burst out laughing when she started to sing the theme song and quote from the drama, even taking the tone of voice on.

Is Jumong going to be next?

"She asks if he still doesn’t want her to be the princess, but he doesn’t answer. "

He did, with the subtle expression on his face that said yes. I loves me my subtle acting. Don't tell me that people missed that.... the "yes" on his face. Which integrates perfectly later into the episode.

i think the reason now why HY's asking Seol to give up being a princess is bec he wants to protect her. HY knows Seol is so kindhearted and naive and he's afraid that if she continues being a princess, many people around her would just use her or take advantage of her. He's probably worried about the consequence/s of what he's done to the president. He has humiliated the president on front of media and that is no joke. If the president was the one who ordered for HY as a diplomat to stay in the palace and be in charge of Seol's education etc, I guess the president also had the power to withdraw it. HY's probably afraid that he would no longer be able to protect Seol. OR, let's say he still stays in the palace, he's probably worried that after what happened that day, things would turn ugly and Seol might get hurt. I guess he just wants Seol now to not have a complicated life and just be his woman and just love her and make her happy.

Gumbee, I can certainly relate to this thinking and that this may be why he rushed over to her room bc he realized that he just jeopardized his position as her protector. Although he'd never leave her side regardless of her decision. It would be challenging to be protecting her if he's removed from the palace or as you indicated they may keep him there, but just makes life more miserable for her. Since the beginning 'til now, it seems HY knows so much more than LS; however, he's not sharing enough information with her so she can make an informed decision. I'm concerned that LS may misunderstand his questioning as an ultimatum because he did not fully disclose all the possible consequences to her hence all the angst and bickering although some of the bickering was done on purpose just so he can have fun with her.

I don't think it is fair to say Seol is stupid & did not see through the president's intention. She is naive, yes but she is just untainted & probably this is why Hae Young loves her so much. I don't think one can really blame her for thinking that she is just doing a good deed with the orphanage...

She is no politician. She's just a girl who unfortunately been dragged into this mess by a stubborn & selfish OLD man who just wanted to make things right to make himself feel better for the crime he committed "a century" ago.

Hae Young probably wanted to protect Seol & keep her unpolluted by politics as much as possible until the recent episode where he has no choice but to reveal the truth to her. I think I'd do the same if I was Hae Young. Once you're in the mud, you have to keep playing the game and there's really no turning back after that.

I really and I mean really hope Seol would agree to be with him in the next episode & them unite together to find a way to get out of the shit hole they are in. I'm also concern the air ticket that Seol found. Is Hae Young planning to leave the country & leave her behind? I hope he'd take her with him and run away together if that is the case...as long as they have each other, Hae Young is a capable man, so I'm sure they can survive well in another country away from all the dirty politics and stupid grandfather! *Fingers crossed*

honestly, although i get the part that seol's every action can be twisted into something bad... i don't think it would be as serious as HY is implying. what she did was a good deed, even if people see it as politically motivated, there would just be rumors and bashing at most. no concrete evidence that it was politically motivated. and so what if it was her orphanage? they could just explain that she wanted to extend her thanks to that orphanage first for taking care of her. and the people of korea should thank the orphanage too for taking care of their beloved princess. it's not like she won't do other good deeds towards other orphanages/communities in the future. and dude, what's with all these incompetent advisors? yoonju's not helping because she's the enemy, but HY stop whining and nagging will you? if you explain everything clearly, she'd understand. no need to ridicule her over something that you're partly responsible for. let's face it, he's not teaching her what he should. he's protecting her, but not teaching her how to deal with heavy stuff on her own.

I think Dan's mother knows Seol's mother. Seol's mother hasn't been explained yet, and that feels like a trump card that the writers are pulling over us.

Since Seol and Dan are the same age, (technically, or assumed), then they can't be sisters, but since they were competitive in the orphanage, it is possible they came around the same time for the same reason.

I'm pretty accurate in my K-drama predictions. The mother issue will come up later. Either they *aren't* the same age and are sisters (half sisters) or their mothers knew each other and one had the sachet.

Remember, also Dan has *all* her memories before she was put into the orphanage. So she knows about at least part of the sachet's history. I doubt she knows the whole thing, because this isn't what these writers would pull. I'm guessing that she and Seol knew each other before the orphanage in some fashion.

And I'm glad that the drama is so blunt.... It's not that Seol is dense, but it's clear that some of the viewers don't get politics either and are at her level. Someone in the show has to be a sap so they get explained for the viewers who don't get it.

AGREED. In all honestly, I was also really surprised when the president brought along all the reporters. Maybe I'm naive or maybe it got lost in translation but it wasn't obvious to me either. I knew he was planning something but I didn't think he'd be using her to gain public favor. I forget that politics can get very ugly sometimes.

5.3.2 I don't know how the numbering system works as this is my 1st time participating in this discussion.

LS told the Gramp in the beginning that she only wanted to clear her father's name and the Gramp said that as a "princess" she can do that. HY has already cleared her father's name for her so there is no other reason for her to stay; however, if I recall correctly, Prof N was the one that convinced her that her role as a princess is very important. His open encouragement & support helped her to become bolder and more optimistic in standing up to YJ. HY's teaching and tenderness also gave her more courage so she thought she's up to carrying out the role of a princess bc of these 2; however, we all know that she is too kind-hearted and simple minded to be able to deal with the press & the Pres.

I don't think HY cares about anything else except LS's happiness now. Her naiveness or "stupidity" (sorry for the strong language) frustrates him, but it is also 1 of her endearing qualities. It pains him to see her being used (Pres & Gramp) and bullied by others (YJ, Dan & press). He'd rather see her as the happy, go-lucky, sunshine face LS that he first met in ep 2 - 3 then stuck in that stuffy palace where she's always scared, fearful and crying. He can't be with her 24/7 to protect her and being the hero that he is, he'd rather have his heroine safe and away from harm's way. That being said, I think that even if LS said she wants to be a princess HY won't abandon her at all. I'm sure he'd be elated if she said "No, I will be your woman instead", but either way regardless of her answer HY is going to stick by her thick & thin. I know this bc he already told YJ that he's going to be "by her (LS) side protecting her."

I hate that there's going to be only 6 episodes left. I'd love for them to extend it longer. I've enjoyed this rom-com soooo much. I agree with you guys that the "cute" was too darn adorable and I'd hate to see all that cuteness to end so soon. I'd love to have them extend it to 20 ep.

Hi myprincessfan! Welcome to the DB community!

Since Park Hae Young is the main male lead in this kdrama it is safe to assume that he will play the main hero to our main heroine, Lee Seol. That is, in the end, our questions on why he did what he did will be revealed and we can safely guess that, even if at first his intentions may not be purely selfless, eventually he will grow to care more for the main heroine and so his intentions will be for the benefit and for the good of the female lead.

Sometimes, kdrama turns out a surprising twist here and there; the response of the viewers to this vary on how the turn of events fit to their own expectations and ideals.

For this rom-com, we see all the adorable cute that is already a surprise nowadays considering most kdramas now tend to veer away from this old-fashioned set-up. We also see a male lead who is uncharacteristically awkward and a female lead who is much too honest for her own good and yet both come out still endearing.

I dont know if the length of the drama will add to the value of said drama. If it is well-told, rom-coms usually do not need to have those extra episodes which could just ruin the whole flow of the story. But if they still have more sub-plots to unravel aside from the main plot then the add'l episodes would be more than welcome.

Enjoy your time here in DB... everyone with a question to ask, insight to share, fun to spread is much much welcome here :-) as what we've experienced from the generosity and the wacky of JB and GF.

I guess princess will accept to be his woman. They enjoy a normal life. LS steps down & Dan is supposed a princess. Professor investigates if Dan is a real princess? Then professor finds the truth that Dan is just a ....... and the true princess is LS. So, they will make LS, HY be queen & kimg. I expect that, if not......hm.....
Can't wait!

I don't blame Lee Seol for not understanding all the machinations going on as it concerns the President and (unbeknownst to LS) the other political parties. She reads people and relationships fairly well, but I'm not even sure she proves herself to be street smart. As someone else said, the most antagonistic person she deals with is her sister, and Lee Dan wouldn't know subtlety if it was slipped into her drink. LS isn't dumb...she doesn't have any political savvy, nor has she had any cause to develop any. Seriously, why doesn't Park Hae-young take into consideration where in life he found her (college student helping to make her dreams of chasing her professor around the world come true by taking side-jobs in an amusement park) and just tell her what all is going on? I'm more upset with him for giving her half-truths or baseless commands, and then being angry with her when she goes on what little knowledge she has and screws things up. Really, she was supposed to figure out that the nice Mr. President was using her for his own ends based on what? She doesn't have any of the information that we have. If PHY is ignorant about women (as he seems to be in the beginning of the show) and needs to be schooled by someone "wiser," why can LS be ignorant about politics and need to be schooled?

Okay. Rant over now. Getting off soap-box. :s
