My Princess: Episode 10
by girlfriday
Finally, a conflict I can get behind, that isn’t motivated by press conferences and public opinion. Hae-young spends the episode in a frustrated snit, but it leads him to finally make a choice, and forces Seol to face some harsh facts of her own. Is it Love or Country? Kisses or Kings? And why’s a girl gotta sell out her country to get some smooches up in here?
EPISODE 10 RECAP
It’s the Love-Square-Face-Off, as Yoon-ju calls both men to pick her up, and then goes running to Hae-young in a hug. That puts Hae-young face to face with Seol, and Yoon-ju facing Jung-woo, as they hug and talk, but not really to each other.
Hae-young, eyeing Seol the whole time, tells her that he’ll always come if she calls, no matter what, and that she should have waited inside. Yoon-ju, looking right at Jung-woo, says that she just wanted to see him that much sooner. Dude, you people have ISSUES.
Hae-young tells Yoon-ju quietly that he’s not the one she waited for, but he’s going to take her hand and leave with her anyway. Yoon-ju catches on right away that this display is for Seol’s benefit, and tells Hae-young that he owes her one.
They start to walk away, but Seol bursts out, “Don’t go! Mr. P, don’t go!” Oh, you’re breaking my heart. I love that she’s not too proud to just tell him not to go. But alas, Mr. P must stand for Mr. Poopyhead, because he goes anyway.
Back at Dumpsville, Seol and Jung-woo sit dejected, until the professor offers to buy her something sweet, because that’s what people eat when they get rejected. I adore that you’re being nice to Seol, even though you’ve also taken a beating.
Hae-young drops Yoon-ju off and then returns to the palace, only to find that Seol still hasn’t returned and isn’t answering her phone. Neither is Jung-woo, which worries him as he paces around looking for her.
He finally finds her in the palace making ramen, on a portable stove no less. What happened to Gunnie the personal chef? He’d probably make you a ramen with smiley face chives or something.
The second he walks into the room, Seol tries to make a run for it, but she keeps getting tripped up over what to do with the half-cooked ramen, and he uses it as an excuse to keep her there. He starts out lecturing her as always, but then ends up asking worriedly why she didn’t pick up her phone. Seol: “To make your insides stew a little!” Ha. I do love her forthrightness. He realizes that he set himself up for that in leaving her there, but then to hide his feelings, he tells her, “Men’s insides don’t burn over women they formally rejected…Also, I don’t like milk.” Aaaargh.
Jung-woo returns home only to find Yoon-ju standing in his doorway. He watches silently as she hesitates, and then tries the old lock code on the door. It works. Satisfied with that, she turns to walk away and runs into Jung-woo.
She asks why he never changed the code, and he makes the excuse that it’s just a hassle. She says, eyes getting teary, that it’s a comfort to her. Gah, I feel the worst for Jung-woo because he has the utter misfortune of loving (or even having loved) such a stone-cold former human.
The next morning Seol wakes up to a giant mound of fan mail. Hae-young wakes up and checks the news, and finds Seol’s popularity on the rise. She’s even updated her website with a selca of her opening her fan mail. He laughs, and so do I, at the thought that this is what a 21st-century princess does to gain public favor. It’s not unlike being an idol star or an actress, and the meta in that is quite apt.
She calls him asking for advice on how to respond to her numerous letters of the I’m-in-love-with-you variety, and he jumps up to tell her to ignore them. She decides that she’s going to respond to every single comment and letter (yeah, good luck with that) and thinks that he’s best to advise, since he’s not one to “burn his insides” over her. Heh. Way to throw his own words back at him.
He tells her the internet is off-limits for a while, and tells her not to respond to anything, about anything. She wonders what difference it makes, if she answers questions honestly (about everything except her weight, heh).
He explains that every little question—whether she likes taxis or buses, red or blue—can be twisted to have political implications, which is why she shouldn’t answer. Well the red or blue question would certainly be a biggie in the States. She catches his drift, and then can’t help but ask if she shouldn’t answer this question then: Does she like Mr. P?
Getting in her face, he tells her not to answer that one, ever. She asks if even THAT is a political matter, and he tells her it’s the most political of them all. Oooh. True, but you’re the one who’s making it so, Mr. Diplomat. He also keeps her palace-bound unless she has his permission.
Hae-young gets called away to meet the President, who thinks it’s time he enter the palace in a formal capacity. Hae-young says that the princess isn’t ready for that, and tries to buy some more time. The President decides that he’ll have to bring her out of the palace then, and decides that an event at an orphanage should do the trick.
Yoon-ju meets with her father to discuss marriage plans, and she tells him that she’s going through with the wedding, and that Hae-young won’t be losing his fortune to the monarchy.
Secretary Oh tells Yoon-ju a critical piece of news—that Hae-young has found out about his father’s involvement in the death of Seol’s father. He says that no one knows the truth about how he really died, except for Hae-young’s dad, and he’s been MIA ever since.
Seol tries to get in touch with Dan, but Evil Sister is still fuming and doesn’t respond. Seol gets a call from her friend and promises to go see her, but Hae-young reminds her that she’s not going anywhere today.
She starts in on an excuse that her friend’s father’s father’s father died…but she’s clearly not so good at math since that puts us somewhere in the last century. He points it out (in the tone of do-you-think-I’m-an-idiot) and gives her homework on top of it.
At home, Dan stews and then finds a receipt on Mom’s phone for the flowers she sent to Seol. She throws another tantrum at Mom, upset that she’s always worked so hard to be the best, but Mom’s always loved Seol more. Oy, with your six-year-old woes, grown woman.
Mom cries and insists that she’s always loved her two daughters equally, but Dan remains frigid, even at Mom’s deluge of tears. I’m thinking, sociopath from an early age? I mean, what’s with you, robot girl? Or is it bad acting? I kind of can’t tell.
While Yoon-ju plots Seol’s demise with the opposition leader, Seol takes out yesterday’s note from Hae-young and swoons over it. How cute. But then she discovers that the note is written on a piece of an airline ticket, so she storms over to Hae-young to ask what it’s about.
She asks him in this hilarious mix of jondae and banmal, which he takes offense at, insisting that he’s her teacher, but she reminds him that she’s the royalty around here. She demands to know where he’s planning on sending her this time, but he tells her that it’s his ticket, and not to worry about it.
In their lesson today, he teaches her not to answer questions off the cuff, and throws a few out there about her favorite color: blue, and favorite singer: John Park, until he asks her favorite book. Seol: “The (female) Professor’s Evil Desire” He whirls around: “You read erotica?” Hahaha.
Seol: “…is NOT what I was going to say…It’s Tolstoy’s What Do People Live For?” Hae-young: “They live for erotica, apparently.” HA. He adds, “You’re not Lee Seol. You’re Ero-Seol.” (Which is a better pun in Korean.)
He tells her that the best way to deflect unanswerable questions is with a timely joke. She scoffs that her well-honed sense of humor is totally up to the task, so he tests her.
Hae-young: Do you like Park Hae-young, or Professor Nam?
Seol: … … I like all men.
Hae-young: Wanna die?
LOL. You told her to deflect with a joke. That’s what you get. She now starts deflecting his questions with her Mishil-speak, as he throws question after question. He casually tosses out, “When did you start liking Mr. P?”
She stammers, then realizes that he’s the one asking all the questions, so she starts tossing out ones of her own, following him out of the room. She asks if he still doesn’t want her to be the princess, but he doesn’t answer.
Jung-woo meets with Dan to ask about the royal satchel, but she refuses to answer, pretending that she wants to protect her sister from being kicked out of the palace. My ass. Even Jung-woo suspects that there’s something shady about the sister and the satchel, but can’t get anything else out of her.
Yoon-ju gives Seol the news that she’s been requested to do some charity work at the orphanage where she grew up, alongside the President. Yoon-ju scoffs at Seol’s bright attitude at being summoned to be the President’s cheerleader, but Seol just hilariously tells her that it’s a good deed, and she can get that “President ajusshi” to do some good work. Ha! Who calls the President “ajusshi”? She cracks me up.
She meets with Jung-woo, who tells her that Dan might have the satchel, but she’s not being very forthcoming, on top of which she’s wary because someone else has approached her about the very same thing. Jung-woo, ever the smart one (and thank god for that, really), tells her that Dan is likely someone who does NOT want her to be a princess.
He tells her that their biggest worry is that satchel. Seol: “Because it might be fake?” Jung-woo: “Because it might be real. Because then, we have no way of proving that it’s yours.” Well who didn’t smell that plot hole from a mile away? I’m just glad someone’s pointing it out to her before her sister knocks her upside the head with it.
Seol gets to work making some soup to take to the orphanage, and this time she enlists Gunnie’s help. He adorably teaches her how to cook with love (as in putting her love into what she makes), and Hae-young walks in on their cozy little scene.
He’s got jealous-exasperated-face, so Gunnie scoots out with a wink. Seol wonders what the big deal is, but Hae-young lays into her for agreeing to go to the orphanage without consulting him. She doesn’t see it as a big deal, which just makes him start yelling, that this is why he can’t let her out in the world, since she’s so clueless about everything. Well you can’t yell cynicism into her. She’s just that trusting. You should know, Mr.-tried-to-be-her-enemy-but-she-trusted-you-so-much-it’s-killing-you.
She cuts the tension with her Mishil act, and that calms him down as he tells her to stop watching sageuks. But he tells her to stop cooking, since she’s not going to that orphanage, ever! Once he leaves, she shouts back that SHE’s going to decide where she goes, without his permission! Then why are you shouting it when he’s gone?
Seol marches in to tell Yoon-ju that she’s going, and that’s that, no matter what Hae-young says. Yoon-ju’s like, yeah I’m the one who told you to go. She adds condescendingly that the princess ought to wear something pretty and go.
All of a sudden, Seol changes her mind. She realizes that Yoon-ju’s insistence that she go is the one indicator she can trust—that she shouldn’t go. Heh. At least you’re not that trusting a fool.
She decides to change the plan, and invites the children from the orphanage to the palace. She watches with happy tears in her eyes, as they run around and play, especially touched at the sight of two little girls running together hand-in-hand.
Hae-young goes to see Grandpa in a scene lit so drastically dark that it’s actually kind of funny. He asks about his father, wanting to believe that it’s some sort of misunderstanding, and that he couldn’t be responsible for the death of Seol’s father. Grandpa tells him that it’s what he might want to believe, but he’s certain that Hae-young’s dad is responsible.
Well at least that’s much more compelling as a reason for Hae-young to keep his distance from Seol, though it’s not a new plot, by any means. I’d like for once, to have a k-drama couple dig into their past and find out that their fathers were fishing buddies or something.
Yoon-ju, meanwhile, meets with Dan about the satchel. Yoon-ju out-bitches her in a round of you-show-me-yours, and overdoes it to the point that Dan storms out, with the declaration that Yoon-ju’s not the only one she can go to. Once she’s gone, Yoon-ju has her followed to figure out why she’s not the only game in town anymore.
Sure enough, Dan goes straight to Jung-woo, to tell him that she’s got the satchel. She presents it, and he nearly has an orgasm at the sight of it. He’s a little embarrassed at his er, love of history, but that’s the proof she needs to trust him with it, to at least find out the truth. She entrusts him with it to find out if it’s the real deal, adding for good measure that it’s hers. Like a little girl never stole something of her sisters and claimed it as her own? I really hope this isn’t going to be as obvious as it seems.
Seol reads Snow White to the kids, and Hae-young comes upon the scene and asks what’s going on. She says that since he told her not to go to the orphanage, she brought the kids here. He doesn’t really complain, until he finds out that she invited the President here too. Okay, maybe you ARE an idiot.
The second the President arrives, the so-called photo-op turns into an impromptu press conference, and Seol walks into it with trepidation, only NOW realizing what Hae-young was talking about. Gah.
They get fired with questions, and the President sits with ease, while Seol panics. Hae-young hesitates for a moment, and then steps in front of them to tell the reporters that there’s no political implication in the meeting, and extracts her before they can ask her any questions. Or at least before she can answer any.
Once out of earshot, she asks why he’s making such a fuss. Wait, so you STILL don’t understand what’s going on? Hae-young can’t believe it either, that she’s really so thoughtless that she doesn’t get the score. He spells it out for her: she’s being used.
He literally has to spell it out for her piece by piece, that the President is using her, at her expense and the orphanage. She finally gets it and stammers that she didn’t know, which he says is true, but she can’t get by not knowing these things anymore. Seriously. Well maybe since you know that she’s this naïve, you should do a better job of spelling these things out BEFORE she’s facing a firing squad of reporters.
He also has to spell out the implications of what he’s done, as a diplomat, in stepping in to save her. He tells her that she doesn’t realize what’s he’s put on the line for her. She gasps (it’s actually laughable that she has to be told every little thing before she gets it). She runs after him, but can’t bring herself to knock on his door.
Jung-woo gets word that the satchel is the real deal. Now comes the hard part of proving ownership.
Seol returns to her room, crying, and Hae-young broods. He finally makes a decision, and as the music swells, he walks down the hall towards Seol. Yoon-ju stops to ask if he’s crazy, doing that to the President, but he just brushes past her.
He knocks on Seol’s door, and when she answers, he comes out with it.
Hae-young: Let me ask you just one thing. Can’t you not be the princess? Is it really something you’d rather die than give up? Can’t you just not be a princess…and live as my woman instead?
O.M.G.
COMMENTS
Finally, a relationship gauntlet thrown! I was scared we were going to go yet another round of press conferences and Noble Idiocy. It’s high time the heroine get a dose of reality (even if it has to be spelled out for her like she’s a grade-schooler) and be given a real fork in the road—to choose between Hae-young and the throne.
Thankfully, there’s probably a bunch of different ways out than just those two roads, but it’s important for her to be given the dilemma, for the drama’s sake. At least now she’s got something real to choose between and fight for, if she knows how Hae-young feels, and what’s really at stake. Much, much better. Whew.
It’s admittedly a little frustrating that Seol is such a blockhead about the implications of every little thing she says and does, but I suppose that’s the point of her character, that’s she’s so naïve while everyone around her is so smart and tied to his/her own motivations.
But couldn’t she be like, a hair smarter, a teensy bit more aware, a tad quicker on the uptake? I like her unwavering trust and simplistic nature, but the stupidity is a little annoying. Especially since her character was made out to be so street-savvy in the beginning. Where’d all that resourcefulness go?
I’m happy with the direction we’re headed in, as long as Hae-young doesn’t pull an I’m-kidding-I-take-it-back or something, and as long as Seol begins to factor in all the pieces of the puzzle as she faces the big decisions. And would it hurt if you gave her another kiss to help sway her? ‘s all I’m sayin’.

Seol, chose Hae-yung and let Dan be the princess, then marry HY, then Jung-woo will discover you're the real princess =). Therefore, both HY and Seol will now become the Prince and Princess, heheheeh =)
Question though, how will they become the King and Queen, will the people ordain them?

GF, thanks for the quick recap.
I loved KTH's Mishil act. Yeah! I don't want to see KTH with other leading actors. I want her to marry SSH. They are such a good looking couple.

"... Where’d all that resourcefulness go?"
Well, it's a standard kdrama procedure actually. You begin with spunky , lively, smart heroine (which is normally displayed by lots of yelling) .Then, prince charming appears. Then, she's so bewitched by his charms that she instantly loses the aforementioned qualities. All logical thinking and intelligence disappear. However, the heroine retains enough brain functions to swoon over the said prince charming and cry for help waiting to be saved. He usually saves her and we have a happy end or they/someone die/dies (if it's a melodrama).
I haven't seen that many kdramas but I've seen enough to notice this. Stories rarely deviate from the pattern. I guess koreans like their main girls stupid.

Yeah, one more, they like to start with tough smart main girl, the one who doesn't let anyone pity on her.
But as the episode goes and prince charming seem like every where to save her, she becomes the dumb wimpy girl who cries a river every time facing a problem. oh yeah and I'm the cold hearted mean girl >:(

Ohhhh ...The mean girls.Right. That's another of my issues with kdramas.
Actually, not only the mean second leads but villains generally. They are usually one dimensional and boring characters. As if they're just plot devises with the sole purpose to torture the main couple. No dept, no development, with limited human traits.I love complicated villains but I don't get many of those in kdramas.

I agree that they seem to get more stupider, and that is so the character doesn't say, "FU, people, I'm outta here."
In all fairness to LS, her perception of reality is different from ours.
She is learning in front of the whole world how to make decisions without her feelings getting in the way. How else do we learn important things unless we make big mistakes?
The audience has seen all the BTS machinations while she still thinks the president is a good guy.
She is wary HY’s advice about the orphan event on more than one level:
* First because she wants genuinely to help the orphans. How could this event hurt them if she’s making them stew and cake?
** Secondly, HY is a self-declared enemy who has done little to encourage her to trust him. Is he really trying to help her here, or is he going to abandon her again?
*** Plus, she has to protect her heart from him as an up-to-this point impossible love interest. When we are in an unsure relationship with someone, we act really stupid around them, and we say really dumb things that we immediately regret.
Should HY have revealed the president’s duplicity earlier? Maybe, but I think he thought he could effectively play the double agent a little longer.

No, I disagree. The point of making her stupider is to have a cute love story and a chance for HY to play a savior and get her out of trouble.
LS we had in the beginning was a cunning, although very young, opportunist. She knew what was good for her and went for it.LS we have now is the total opposite. She lacks any sense of self preservation. Something that she should have as a result of the life she led before becoming a princes.
Let me put it this way LS from episode 10 is way dumber than LS from episode 1. LS 1 would have put Y/HY/reporters in their place in less than 5 min. For whatever magical reason LS 10 can't. And the reason is that HY must get a chance to play knight in shinning armor. Which is actually a very stupid way of doing things but I guess whoever was writing the story resorted to the easiest way possible and turned her into a dummy.

im curious: why do we females always get angry when other females become stupid when they're in love? we think we can do better if we were in so and so's place. well, until we find ourselves in their shoes would we really know how it feels...
but this doesn't change things...it's still not wise, what Seol did. but it was also Hae Young's fault in part that she did not completely trust him about the orphanage thing. He did not give her many reasons to do so in the past so I guess he just deserved not being taken seriously this time. add the fact that he did not tell her why he thinks it is such a bad idea and about the President's ulterior motives. She became stupid because he was not open with her and he did not really treat her as his equal who can understand these things. he just bossed her around. he has been playing with her feelings that she got confused whether to take him seriously or not. aww! this is getting me all riled up. :-)
if i were in the princess' shoes id give HY a serious beating, haha! look who's blaming who for the mess they are both in. men! ;-)
oooppps, i know...if i were in her shoes....but im not so...

And I'm not talking about her being in love with HY. I'm talking about everything else besides that.
It's ok to be silly around the one you like but what is her excuse to be so dumb around people she's not in love with? That's why I'm asking what's the logic in losing LS 1 other than to make HY shine?

That honestly drives me crazy. I wish women had more backbone in kdramas--they're always the damsel in distress, needed to be saved by some form of Prince Charming (the real prince charming seems kinda stupid, unlike some kdrama heroes) as far as I can tell. Even in Queen of Reversals, the strong willed (so called) Hwang Tae Hee needed needed HQ Head (ugh. I hate it now... I probably the only one who wanted the husband and wife to get back together.. so mad... ) to survive. We need strong willed women! Is the main heroine (forget her name) still awesome in Flames of Ambition? Well, anyway, I just wish that the women of kdramas wouldn't be so dependent on their men or maybe they can truly defy them (the men) sometimes.

I think you maybe watching the wrong kdramas...there's a lot out there with strong-willed women. Divine Weapon, Jewel of the Palace, Queen SeonDok, Jumong, Dong Yi, Coffee Prince, Biscuit Teacher Star Candy, My Name is Kim Sam Soon, Baker King, Shining Inheritance...Im sure there are a lot more where I have not watched yet ;-)

I know that most of her stupid act is a contrived way of getting in hero moments.
But I maintain her judgement is affected by her feelings now that she is directly involved with HY. People with crushes and people who have been hurt don't act rationally.
Even real smart ones.

I've seen over 50 Korean dramas? 50-100 anyway and this does not hold true.
For example, Dae Jang Geum gets to be smart, beat out the men, be smarter than her man and still win. Dong Yi was smart too, and sometimes out smarted her own man.
Chun Hyang was smart until the very end. Most of the girls in the Hong Sister dramas have a lot of strength of will. Even Mi Ho, while she was swooning still held her own and eventually made Woong-Ah~~ do the swooning and worrying.
Delightful Girl's Success Story, the girl got smarter as she went, even though that wasn't the best drama ever, if did break your supposed pattern.
Should I go through all of the dramas I can remember? I haven't even gotten through the Ajumma dramas like MNKSS yet. Or Dalja's spring.
Hey, should I got through the 80+ J-dramas that break this? Like Hotaru no Hikari?
Or how about TW dramas where the opposite happens. The girl gets smarter over time with her honest efforts. That's They Kiss Again and It Started With a Kiss.
Or Dram High, I believe the girl recently went on a diet for Jason, but realized she had to do it for herself and fell out of love with him. She got smarter by being in love with him.
Do you really need the dramucation?

Yes they (the lead female character) seem smarter than the lead male characters, but (which I don't like) that they have to be help, wait to be help, desperately by the male lead character (bleh with a lot of tear before it) every single time the problem is coming.
So they are smart but why don't fix the problem by their own self? why have to wait to be saved? how many time I want to scream to the screen: Do something girl, ehm smart girl, don't wait, don't cry it doesn't fix the problem or bring your man back! HECK why they are crying for the reason I don't understand?? HAH!
I don't know if girls become a little bit dumb if around guy whom she fall in love with, I guess that depend each person personality, some people tend to have head 1st then heart, some people are the opposite. but how can I say that I've never been so deep in love that I can say so, ha, ha, ha :P

This is a good conversation about what women want in real life from men versus what women want to see on their Shows.
The stories usually go like this:
Rich cold but HOT selfish man falls for cute warm selfless girl.
She transforms him so he can fulfill his potential.
He provides her eventually with an undying faithful love and security.
In MP, despite HY being the boss of her in so many ways, I feel that he an Seul are an even match in their relationship.
She doesn't have the education and experience he has, but she has not shown so far that she is a push over, either.
When he does evil things, she calls him on it, and keeps holding him accountable to being "good" for lack of a better word. Does he want her to be as savvy as him? Will that make her a better person?
Plus, a funny thing happened on the way for him "to protect Seul." He has failed a lot. Exception being him sending the press conference into the parking lot.
Seul will show that while she needs better and more honest advice, she doesn't need his protection.

Whoa, the music and the atmosphere at the end were so intense...I think I stopped breathing for a few minutes.
All the time yelling inside of me: "Now go to her [which he eventually did] and KISS her! [which he didn't ㅠㅠ]"
Can't wait for the next episode~
And of course thanks for the recap!
[And if Seul shouldn't become the princess just because Hae-Young would loose his inheritance...that's ridiculous, because he could just marry her (since they are in love anyway) and he has all the money he could get <.< I know that it isn't just that anymore...but to me it looked like it started like that...]

In my country ( if translated word by word) - when you ask a woman "do you want to be my woman....live as my woman" ...its a definite marriage-proposal :P
When I started watching K-dramas, those phrases did confuse me very often also like this OPPA phrase -
Thanks to JB for explaining the OPPA confusion :)

Yesterday night I watched it raw and did not understand everything. Thanks to the great-mimics of korean actors (even SSH) I could catch the plot a little bit. But reading your recap this morning it helped me a lot to understand what was going on...
I loved it also that HY set a kind of ultimatum to Seol at the end of this Episode, so I wonder how the next 6 episodes will going on, as this kind of scene should be awaited at the Final episode where she decides for him...
Interesting plot so far and I bet she decides for being PRINCESS at the beginning of Ep.11
For Ep.10 I can say that I love the sweet bickerings in the Questions-Answers play. Lovelly, lovelly, lovelly...*^^*
Its like they blackmail each other or lets say its a a kind of to competition between them about who will admitt at first to say I LOVE YOU....
By the way, the actor who plays the president...isnt he playing also in the Drama Gloria at the same time...Does anyone know ?

The idea of beauty fascinates me.
The fact that a person like SSH can walk around being beautiful for a living. He's primped and dressed to the nines, every where he goes. And he's been doing that for all of his adult life.
How do you maintain a normal existence?
How do you not end up separating yourself from the rest of us uglies?
I guess the other side is people call him names like the Leaning Hand Towel of Korea, too. But that is only because

I don't care about his head tilting thingy whatever... people have habits or ways of expressing themselves... i don't see it as a problem at all...
in my opinion, he is a great actor... i mean, i don't know how to judge acting skills, but i guess his face and vadddy makes up with whatever faults he has when acting... :)

thanks for the wonderful recap!!
Anyway, can anyone clear this out for me? I'm a little bit confused with this part in this episode:
"He asks about his father, wanting to believe that it’s some sort of misunderstanding, and that he couldn't be responsible for the death of Seol’s father. Grandpa tells him that it’s what he might want to believe, but he’s certain that Hae-young’s dad is responsible"
Why does HY's grandpa think HY's dad had something to do with the the death of Seol's dad? Didn't he (grandpa) already tell Seol in episode 3 the story how her dad died? That he was the one responsible?
--episode 3: "Chairman Park explains that he was responsible for her father’s death, and relates the story"
"..The chairman hadn’t been willing to do that, so Dad had slipped away in the night with Seol. The chairman had followed with his men, so Dad had hidden Seol in a side street, promising to come back right away, and turned back to deal with his pursuers. But in the process, he’d been hit by a car — the one carrying the chairman, who’d been speeding off to find him.)
So why is HY's dad suddenly being involved in this? I understand HY's dad had threatened Seol's dad before as was shown in episode 7 but I thought that was only it. hmm...

I think Grandpa says HY's dad is responsible also for Seol's dad's death because if he hadn't threatened Seol's dad, saying if Grandpa saw him then he (HY's dad) would kill not only him but also Seol, then Seol's dad wouldn't have run off in the middle of the night, which led to the car accident.

I think the first and most important reason is that his grandfather would be against it: all his "I will give my entire fortune to restore the monarchy" thing would be very questionable if his grandson married the princess. That would seriously harm both the dae-han group and the royalty. also, with all the "Yes she is my woman" to "No, I just did that to protect the privacy of her highness", there would be a lot of explaining to do.
Added to the fact is that while Hae-Young loves her, he would still like to have both his lover and his inheritance... if only Seol gave up being the princess, which wasn't a great deal to her before.
Well that is what I understand... :)

“I will give my entire fortune to restore the monarchy” thing would be very questionable if his grandson married the princess.
If I were the voting public, and I saw this sacrifice on the part of the grampa, and voted for the Princess,
Then found out this gorgeous piece of man was going to marry this absolutely adorable Princess, I would be like all
"Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, how nice! A good deed rewarded!"
It's not like the Palace keeps the money to themselves. They are there to create tourism revenues.

Agreeing with you, jomo.
Also, if Seol decides not to be the Princess but gets together with Hae Young instead, he won't really be off the hook from public scrutiny. If he is concerned with what the people will say if he gets together with Seol as princess, the same predicament awaits him if he takes away Seol from the monarchy. Now that Seol is known as the princess there would be an inquiry why she suddenly decides not to take said role and his name would eventually come up. So I guess they are in a Catch 22 situation: damned if they do, damned if they dont. Either way, they will be under fire. The best way is not to get together at all. But that would be like an eternal dance inside the palace with no end in sight. But I guess raging hormones...err growing love... stops HY from taking this high road. Much as he wants to he cant stop circling Seol and getting sucked in her orbit. Awww! Too bad for our prince. But he is trying his darn best...

Ok time for some totally unimportant and meaningless observations.
1. The fountain has been fixed. It didn't spourt water when he carried her out of it in ep 9 to his bed....
he he....yeah I wish! In ep 10 voila! It's perfectly ok! Isn't that great?
2. The last part where he said, "Be my woman" , I hollered: "Thought you'd never ask! I'm coming!!!!!!" I know it's irrelevant here, but I just wanted you all to know.
3. Grandpa sat in the dark with HY cos the lights are a strain on his eyes. He prefers the dark. That's why he accidentally wore HY's speedos few eps back. He mistook them for his cotton boxers.
Poor Grandpa...*bawling* First his legs now his eyes boo hoo hoo
4. I stare at HY's head ALL the time. To check on the head tilt. It's terribly distracting cos when he starts emoting, he starts tilting....first to the left then to the right then again to the left....right...left...right....driving me nuts.....
5. I am more and more confused. I don't understand HY's fickleness. First, he wants LS. Then he doesn't want her. Next he wants her again. His fickleness is in sync with his head tilting....no fixed direction.
6. Ep 10 and still no kiss. Not even a hug. I must say LS has the patience of a saint waiting for that slow-poke HY. 6 more eps to go. They sure do things slow in the palace.

Ep 10 and still no kiss. Not even a hug.
There was a lot of fishing, YY. Between this episode and the last. HY was fishing fishing fishing near the fountain, in the car, in the library, by the ramen and the stew.
Who was your first love? Who else was there? Since when have you liked me?
Also, staring. Lots of staring. Hot. Breathtaking. Mind reading staring.

the tension! when they kissed, the world stopped and fell silent.
and now they do lots of staring! and if they stared any split second longer, there would be a nuclear reaction that could obliterate the entire palace. they shouldn't be encouraged to stare. they should always be kept near the fountains (or showers) for emergency extinguishing of their smoldering tendencies.
my nose bleeds.

HY risked everything (President's trust, his job, everything) and he even opposed or humiliated the PRESIDENT just for her. OMY GOSH. This drama's really good. The chemistry in this drama is UNREAL. When they sit together in that car, or he leans his head in closely, or they talk intensely, it's just POW! KISS!!!!! NOW! PLEASE!
Can there be this much on-screen chemistry without off-screen interest? Can there? The last time I saw this much was on Worlds Within/The World That They Live in...real-life couple.
Did anyone see that when the orphans crowded around them, the camera angle changed to a distance shot? And in that shot he had his arm around her shoulders When it zoomed in closely again, it was down. It was almost like a shot with a stand-in couple...kind of odd.

The fast editing causes problems like this all the time.
If you watch the kiss the first time - at the end of the episode - his arm jumps off her shoulder to back on her shoulder when they do close shot-wide shot. They were able to fix this when they showed it again at the beginning of the following episode.
Yes, I watched that scene THAT many times to notice...
