Lee Jun-hyuk joins City Hunter
by javabeans
Lee Jun-hyuk is joining the cast of City Hunter, the franchise formerly set in the seedy underbelly of metropolitan life which has now been transferred to the much less gritty Blue House. I guess it really IS the season for presidential dramas.
Lee will play a prosecutor with the Seoul District Prosecutor’s Office, a workaholic characterized by a strong sense of duty with dreams of becoming attorney general. He doesn’t believe in love and intends to marry a woman with a sterling background…but things never go the way we intend, do they? Instead, an accident involving his father leads him to an encounter with a Blue House bodyguard (Park Min-young), and he finds himself unexpectedly drawn to her. Thus begins the love triangle between him, the bodyguard, and her other love interest (our hero), Lee Min-ho, who’s part of the international communications team at the Blue House.
I found Lee Jun-hyuk pretty charming in Three Brothers as he cheerfully (and persistently!) pursued his honey, but he was less interesting in I Am Legend as the not-quite-love-interest. (Methinks the plans for a big romance fizzled when they realized he had zero chemistry with Kim Jung-eun.) He also had a recurring cameo on Secret Garden, where he was the underhanded star who tried to steal Seul away from Oska with lies, oh such stupid lies.
I’m neither excited nor disappointed in his casting here, though that may be because I’m no longer that excited about City Hunter in general. Oh, I’ll still be watching — Lee Min-ho fascinates me — and I hope it proves itself to be much more compelling than its setup suggests. But let’s just say I’m not gonna be holding any breaths.
City Hunter is planned for a May 25 premiere on SBS, which makes it a Wednesday-Thursday drama.

City Hunter is getting further and further away from the original manga but I'm still curious to see how this plays out even though the whole premise seems kinda dull now

I've checked out in terms of plot, but I have been waiting to see Min-ho again since Personal Preference. Lee Jun Hyuk seems like the perfect second guy, not the one you choose in the end, but causes you to waiver...patiently waiting for May.

change of premise + the addition of park min young, yeah I don't think Lee Min Ho is enough to get me interested in this but I do like Lee Jun Hyuk, but sadly still no increase in interest.

i truly don't believe i've ever been soooo disappointed in a drama BEFORE it aired. i was so excited and hopeful, though it waned with each news release, i was holding out hope until the last blow (it only being CH in name)... i think i'd still be looking forward to this drama if they just went ahead and changed the title, apologized for being lying, misleading bastards and put Poseidon back on the line fn up! i think that's the only way i'm going to forgive SBS this year.

He has a Song Seung-heonesce look. I just put their pictures side by side and yes, they could play brothers at some point.
I only saw him in "City Hall" and "Star Lover." The other dramas I did not watch. He is captivating and compelling enough to watch the series. Sounds like a good part, but won't get the girl if Lee Min-ho is the lead....
Love the picture! Shows some complexity.
Can tell he works out -- great veins!!

was truly well and beyond excited about this until they dropped the bomb and decided to stray from the original manga. optimistically, it can be a good thing seeing most manga characters typically show over exaggerated emotions and i doubt PMY can pull off those faces.
in regards to casting LJH in City Hunters - that's a big plus for me. loved him to bits in three brothers. he's gorgeous *wipes off drool* and he has this uncanny resemblance to Bigbang's SeungRi, only a more mature face.

Looks like they are going with pretty as a strategy.
It has never worked to hide a weak plot or script, though.
Maybe in a two hour film, but over 16 eps?
But will I tune in for it to check it out? Absolutely!
I am still watching Paradise Farm because of JSW.

i'm still curious abt switching the setting to the Blue House. WHY?? Is the production trying to save on money or something? maybe re-use sets that have already been built? just makes everything less compelling and it doesn't fit the urban vibe of the title, City Hunter. Isn't the Blue House surrounded by beautiful gardens?

Blue House settings are so boring. Athena, Daemul-every time they showed the Blue House, the boring meter went up several levels. How can LMH be womanizing in the Blue House? Attempts to assassinate the President have been overdone. What happen to LMH being a detective helping helpless beautiful women? Aaargh-the more I think about them changing the story, the madder I am with the production company.

The more info we get the less it sounds like City Hunter but if Lee Minho could get me to stick through every level of Boys Over Flowers nonsense I could definitely tune out a dull plot and just look at the pretty.

Being a big City Hunter fan, I'm feeling rather disturbed that they're calling this City Hunter. To add insult to injury, Lee Minho plays the main character. I weep.

Does everything in kdramaland demand a love triangle/quadruple? GAH! I would love to see the two bodyguards fighting an attraction with each other, with the other characters as merely objects of envy/misunderstanding for the two. I mean, does life really have this many love triangles all in one go?... Don't one answer that. XP But Lee Jun-hyuk is a cutie and worthy of staring at. XD

Kind of hilarious in context. Jilted Daemul writer's making a Daemul out of City Hunter. You go sistah!
But saying that, I do think she's pretty cool, I mean, I really enjoyed the first few episodes she wrote. And kind of have faith that in spite of how daunting the premise might seem, she'll hopefully keep things exhilarating and engaging.

Why is everyone so down about City Hunters all of a sudden? I'm still SUPER excited about it!!!! But, I guess I'm pretty bias to the matter since I get excited about alomst everything Lee Min Ho related. Lol.
(Hrrmmm Maybe its how unorganized production is.)

For goodness sake prosecutor, lawyer, attorney yet again and again. Tired. Blue House's strong-heart/hardworking woman bodyguard & genius techie + capital workaholic prosecutor tangled in love triangle, politics, drama, sometimes action. And they still brazenly called this City Hunter manga adaptation. Well... good luck then.

I lost all interest when they changed the whole plot and casted Park Min-young.
Even though Lee Min-Ho was way to you to act Ryo it would have been interesting to see him portray a lecherous character like Ryo Saeba.

So the storyline has changed again, and the
gritty streets of Seoul have been replaced with
the Presidential Mansion? A least we'll find out
if you can fire a gun while wearing white gloves.
I blame all of this "re-arranging" of the original
version of "City Hunter" on javabeans. Obviously,
the producers for CH read her dramabeans.com
article titled: "Did Rain steal Lee Min-ho's thunder"
and equally, the answer to the question is....YES.
So the producers started to run scared.
In a frenzied attempt TO MAKE SURE that nobody
confuses CH with "Runaway: Plan B" I can see
just one more MINOR storyline change: replace
the Blue House with some snappy 7th century
royal palace, and have a guest appearance by
"Dae Jo Young." Flaming arrows and some evil
Tang generals would be a nice touch, too.
Yep, that oughta' do it.
And it's all javabeans' fault. :) :) :)
