First (vague and inexplicable) look at SBS’s Midas

These two teasers are just about the most uninformative previews EVER, but hey, for those of you looking forward to the upcoming drama Midas, at least it’s something?

Sure, it’s meant to be a tease, but almost takes that word too far since we barely get a glimpse of the three series stars: Jang Hyuk (Chuno), Kim Hee-ae (My Man’s Woman), and Lee Min-jung (Smile, You). Apparently we’ll have to wait for the third and fourth trailers before getting more of an idea what this drama’s about, if we’re lucky. What we’ve been told so far is that it deals with the business world and mergers and acquisitions, with characters who are hedge fund managers and rich folk and playboys.

See if you can glean any added meaning out of the preview spots:

Midas is scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays on SBS, and will take up the slot currently held by Athena, which is hanging in there in the lower teens, ratings-wise, but seems to be slipping just a little bit with each week. (Nobody’s going to be calling Athena a failure, but given all the hoopla and how producers were positioning it to follow in IRIS‘s 30%+ ratings footsteps, it’s a blow to be found in last place. Though I won’t argue with it, since I’m gobbling up competitor Dream High like it’s candy-laced crack — or crack-laced candy? — and Queen of Reversals is heating up as it heads to its finish.)

In any case, that puts the Midas premiere at Monday, February 28. In addition to the three actors pictured here, it also stars Noh Min-woo (Mr. Emo Boy from My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho), Jung Seok-won (Dr. Champ’s judo player and bromance partner), Kim Sung-oh (Secret Garden’s hilarious Secretary Kim), and newcomer Seo Joo-ae.

This drama is just what you guessed it was. About the life of mergers & acquisitions, the stock market, lives of chaebols.
Jang Hyuk is Kim Do Hyun. He is the best at everything but with no ambition. His father left the family and his mother raised him in hardship. He just wants to have a job in a law firm and live his life comfortably but he isn't allowed that. His ambition then is to gain money. His girlfriend is Lee Min Jung's character Lee Jung Yun.

Lee Min Jung is Lee Jung Yun. She's been dating Do Hyun for 6 years. She attended nursing school. And gets a job in Korea's best hospital. She later finds that Do Hyun has another woman as he changed after he joined the law firm. She then goes to tempt Yoo Myung Joon (a chaebol) to get revenge.

Kim Hee Ae is Yoo In Hye. Her family's networth is comparable to Samsung and Hyundai. She got a MBA from USA. She is the president of her own multi-billion dollar hedge fund company. She doesn't have much of a social life because she is constantly tending to her business. She has quite a large family with 5 siblings from all different mothers.

Noh Min Woo is Yoo Myung Joon. Yoo In Hye's biological younger brother. He hates his father and does everything that his father hates until he meets Jung Yun. He finds that he has terminal stage of cancer and Jung Yun is his nurse. And this is where their relationship starts to bloom from patient to nurse and further.

OK from that I would not have the foggiest what that drama was about. The Asianstalker and I are just watching it for Noh Min Woo. We loved him in Rock Rock Rock! :D

Just watched Rock!Rock!Rock! last weekend and found out Noh Min Woo's next project is Midas, so I'm on the watching for Noh Min Woo ship as well. I love to watch actors grow and am hoping his supposed "playboy" character in this drama will bring out a new dimension in his acting...he's also very pretty to look at. ;)

they just wanted early buzz, most kdrama don't release teasers until the finale week of the previous title. MBC's The Duo (the very first teaser) has also done the same type of teaser as here...Both that drama and this one (midas) used their poster shoot to create mystery.

I'm anticipating the next teaser as it'll be more than a mere poster shoot *_*

i think you mistaken Kim Jae Wook for No Min Woo. Kim Jae Wook was the second lead in Bad Guy. both of them have been compared for having similar features. and i like both of them. lolz!

but otherwise, i'm super stoked about the cast. hot guys galore! mr mane of glory w/o the mane, emo boy and judo boy?!!? yay!!!

i was watching kiss me, kill me last night and was delightfully surprise to find secret garden's secretary kim as a gangster! haha i love that guy

To me, it seems like the trailers are saying: "Everyone is very pretty and well-dressed and wears a lot of expensive clothes and jewellery. Also, lots of expensive venues you could never afford, but will like to ogle!!"

There are worse reasons to watch a drama. ;-)

You gotta admit, it's a lot like the American teaser trailers where I just stare at the screen (whether in theaters or at home) and just ask myself "What the hell is that show/movie supposed to be about?" HAHAHA. Other than that, the genre doesn't intrigue me (I'd rather have my Tuesday dose of NCIS thank you very much) but best of luck to the actors. Fighting!

The first teaser tells us it's happening in A CITY (OMG !)

The second tells us there will be PEOPLE in it !!!

But, more seriously, if we extrapolate on the second teaser, and the fact that they never show the top of the head of anyone... Robots? Aliens with an antenna coming out their skulls ?

Hmmm, don't know, but if it is a Werewolf, it better be pretty. Oh, and it has to be rich, definitely a rich werewolf. But that might cause a problem since the second most important sign of wealth, next to diamonds, in K-drama land is fur. I simply don't know how I'd feel about a werewolf in a fur vest, it just seems cannibalistic...

Haha. Naturally, they have to protect their fur vests.

But I don't think I saw a boat. It might have been a bridge, the sequence after the sepia-toned city skyline was too quick, they only had 10 seconds so some of the wealth symbolism had to be a quarter of a second long...it must have been tough to choose, but the editors seem to feel city skylines represent wealth better than bridges or boats.

Hmm Midas...for some reason I think this could work really well as a makjang...still a drama about mergers, acquisitions, hedge funds PLUS Jang Hyuk just throw in some embezzlement, meaningless sex and hostile takeovers and I'd definitely watching his.

The teasers don't really make me interested in the drama. More so the actors. Jang Hyuk, Lee Min Jung and now also Jung Seok Won and Kim Sung Oh? I'm so in. As long as the story will be at least a little bit interesting.
Has anyone else seen Kim Sung Oh in Ajusshi? I almost couldn't recognize him as Secretary Kim in Secret Garden!

Wow. Indeed... Teasers are not supposed to leave you without any takeaway or impressions. What I saw was like a CG, stock images + cast photoshoot added with video effects and a short voice-over pronouncing Midas? Argh.

I'm going on a whim here to assume that the production team hasn't passed on enough footage or material to the promotion team but it's the reached the deadline to be "teasing" viewers about the upcoming show and that's why we have two versions of literal nothingness.
