Yoon Shi-yoon scores first leading role in film
by girlfriday
Last year’s king of baking and king of ratings Yoon Shi-yoon (Baker King Kim Tak-gu) lands his first leading role in the movie One Hundred Percent, about…golf. Really? What’s with the golf stories lately? Didn’t they notice what happened to Birdie Buddy? I get that it’s a big sport, but it’s the dramatic appeal that’s lost on me. Oh well. Yoon Shi-yoon managed to make the whole country care about baking, so maybe he’s got it in him to start some golf frenzy. Ha. Now that’s an oxymoron. Isn’t golf the sport where the audience does the silent clap?
Yoon Shi-yoon will be playing…wait for it…a GENIUS pro golfer. Pfft. Oh, K-Drama/Film-land. Sigh. Why does every character have to be a frickin’ genius at something? It makes me laugh to think that based on these odds, everyone and their mother in Korea is a genius. Throw a stone, hit a genius. Why yes, that person makes a good cup of coffee, but he’s no ordinary barista. He’s a genius barista!
On an up note, it’s a comedy, so there’s potential to see a new side of Yoon Shi-yoon, and for it to not take the genius thing too seriously. It’ll be helmed by first-time director Kim Myung-kyun, and rounded out by veterans Chun Ho-jin (Paradise Ranch), Park Sang-myun (Mary’s papa in Mary Stayed Out All Night), Lee Byung-joon (Principal Shi in Dream High, Director Park in Secret Garden), and Lee Kyung-young (Invincible).
Yoon said, “It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever played golf, so it’s hard. But since I learned the form, I’m falling in love with the sport. It’s a lot of pressure to play the lead in a movie for the first time, but I won’t get cold feet and I’m going to do my best.”
And while Yoon Shi-yoon is no genius actor, he’s a pretty darn good one, for a relative newbie, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in more comedic roles. Perhaps it’ll be a nice transitional project out of makjang-land and into a rom-com? One Hundred Percent starts shooting this weekend.

If this film project is anything like Baker King or more, then we will sure to have another winner. :-) Would not miss seeing the star of Yoon Shi-Yoon shine once again, now in the big screen. Im 100% for it!
A rom-com would be fun to see with his own brand of humor and acting. Yes, that is one film/series many would want to see him in. :-) Hope they can pair him with another promising newbie though.

golf is a sport where one swing can tell you if the person knows how to play or not... i hope his swing looks better than jae hee's on 3-iron since he's supposed be a 'genius' pro golfer :)

By the way he was super cute in the cameo.

I stopped watching Baker King fairly early on cuz I'm just not a makjang kinda girl. Some of YSY's angst-ridden facial expressions were a bit much for me, but I think I'd really enjoy him in a comedic role-- he seems really well suited for it.

Omg he cried soooo much in that show. After a while I started shouting at the screen, 'STOP crying!' lol. I did like him in it otherwise. He's so cute ... though he kinda walks funny.

I watch now INvincible Lee Pyung Kang... is about golf too... while the sport scenes could be borings(ok htye kinda are) ...they failed me keeping me interested on the main chars... and not the sport.... so this could be the start...to avoid Birdie Buddy ...ILPK had like 6.1 Average ratings... even sageuk scenes were really entertaining....it couldn't save the day

HAHA me too! Actually, that whole paragraph of GF's ranting about the overuse of the 'genius' character cracked me up pretty badly.
And may I add- when we throw a stone in Korea, it hits 2 things, a genius and a chaebol!
Makes me want to fly to Korea now.

I don't know about all golf related stuff failing. Shia and Disney did it pretty darn good job when it came to golf.

If they keep up with the golf-theme I REALLY hope they decide to just try doing a Happy Gilmore style film. I'd be down for that in a heart beat.

I walk in a coffee shop, and meet a genius barista giving me a charismatic smile. He says, "what will you be having?" I say, "make me something orgasmic," so he does.
You ask that genius barista if he can make the same cup of joe for your friend to try, and he'll say, "sorry, I don't make the same drink twice." WT... and you call yourself a genius? Ah~ I get it, you make 'em desire you even more now, genius, purely genius.
"Cheers," to that!

man, this guy is pretty!
"Why does every character have to be a frickin’ genius at something?" -- i know, right!
I'm waiting for someone to come up with a drama that will feature a hero who is just average at something! And it sucks how the guys get to be geniuses, but the girls get stuck at the bottom run of the ladder/rookie.
