Chun Jung-myung goes solo with new company
by javabeans
You can add Chun Jung-myung to the list of stars breaking off on their own to form their own management companies, as he has announced his intention to go solo with his longtime manager.
There’s always speculation of a big star going this route when (s)he nears the end of his/her contract with an existing company, since once an actor amasses enough clout, it’s beneficial for himself to manage his career on his own (and bring in more money). Those who have done so in recent years include Song Seung-heon and Choi Ji-woo; some actors who made the jump years ago currently enjoy additional careers as management CEOs for rising talents. Those include Bae Yong-joon with BOF and Keyeast, and Lee Byung-heon with BH Entertainment.
Chun’s rep said in an interview on the 6th, “After his contract ended with his previous agency, he thought about which direction to go in, and decided to start his own company. Aside from Chun Jung-myung, we’re prepared to pursue various activities in the entertainment industry with four new actors.”
Chun was last seen (though sadly wasted) in last year’s KBS drama Cinderella’s Sister, and is busily preparing for his new drama, an MBC Monday-Tuesday offering, The Duo. Co-starring Lee Sang-yoon and Han Ji-hye, the fusion sageuk series unfolds around two men who were switched at birth and lived each other’s wildly disparate lives — one as a poor slave, one as a nobleman.

I think you all going to see more of him in dramas and CFs. Star like CJW had not taken up any serious role since C,JW incorporation, except participating in the Actress which she charged no fees.
Recently, she has also shut down her company website quietly. Do not really know what is really up to him, except asking her fans to hope and drink coffees while she is 'playing house'.
So you may wonder what is the nodus operandi of C,JW company. it is simple generating income by participating in CFs and partying in brands like Gucci, Christian Dior. It is widely reported in HK that A-List stars generate about US$100-150k per party + free gifts of the aforesaid brand.
For CFs, you will see CJW selling her image for dog foods, water, unit trusts to soliciting people to gamble in the casinos.
The most absurd being endorsing multiple cosmetic brands simultaneously. if you are a Korean fan, CJW is asking you to buy Sheseido, if you are a Japanese, you are asked to support her through a brand called Gini of tears, and if you happen to be in Hong Kong, you are encourage to support her best friend's Madam Lee's ' You Come, You see, you conquer', the brand that sound like an Italian lizard. Finally, if you are a Chinese you support her through Kan's Korean cosmetics. Isn't it called conflicts of interest?
Not really sure about CJW's moral value of soliciting people to gamble, while at the same time doing charity work so
diligently. Also, doubting her ethical judgments and her repeated pledge of wanting to be a good actress. I guess, it is merely lip service. The underlying interest is clear which is to make more money, by hook or by crook!!
Just hope this Cinderella boy does not follow the auntie's footsteps!!

It worked so well for BYJ,who may be the richest actor in Korea, how can they not be tempted? It can be a diaster too (Rain's Jtune) if not careful.

that's what i'm worried abt too and as great an actor as he is, i also don't think his name is as wide-reaching as other celebs who have formed their own management companies.

BYJ has got some wisdom and he was ahead of the game for ten years. The ingredients were right for him, right time, right place, meet/support by the right people. Also, with preparation, you create your own luck.
Frankly, I think this cinderella boy can be easily replaced by any actors in his class. I do not think he has got much substance or wisdom listening to how he answered to some interviews.

Going independent will give him more autonomy and he can choose projects he truly likes. Of course the down side is now he doesn't have the same access to (hm... may not be able to, or worse, may be prevented from enjoying) the big network connections his former agency provides its stars.
Bullying is not unheard of - but if he has the talents (which he has) and his fan base is solid (that we will see), he will make it - just remember Park Shin Yang and Sign.
I wish you well, PIE!

I sincerely hope he is doing this for freedom over money. Otherwise, as Mickey Mouse has put it for CJW, he may hurt himself more.
I have a lot of sympathy on stars who have a bunch of people on his/her shoulders waiting to be fed. Park Yong Ha had his struggles then. Let's not be too harsh on stars...

Reality is always harsh. CJW needs to feed her parents, including her brother's family and a whole bunch of staffs.
Also, I do not think her shop selling shoes and costume jewelries are doing well at all. That's why she can see increasing stress and fake smiles written on her face, distress in her tones/messages to fans, and worry in her body language and posture.

i love love LOVE him, but i'm not grasping precisely HOW MUCH clout he actually has. in the american sphere, he would be big, as in like.. who?
does he actually have enough clout to nurture other talents? oh wait, or is he just in that company by himself, for himself?

I was wondering the same thing. I actually haven't seen CJM in too many dramas and I don't hear his name tossed around as much as other actors that have started their own companies, so I wonder how this will work out for him. The rep said they were going to bring other actors into the company, so its not for himself (or at least that's what they're saying).
I just hope CJM's company doesn't doesn't flop like J. Tune. Good luck to him.

I don't think he has much crowd, and relatively affluent clientele. BYJ is in a different leagues, he has got the support of auntie fans from Japan and Asia. these aunties who are mostly above forties can afford to throw spare cash on him, albeit slow economies. whereas, this Cinderella boy still building up his stardom, I think this is not a wise move.
He should perhaps learn from Song Hui Kye who has quite successfully transform herself from drama to movie, and now prepare herself for something big. also, her participation in just one CF cosmetics for years will set her apart from CJW!! Moreover, she did not try to impose the virgin Mary image on herself, and frank about her relationships with LBH and recently with the Secret Garden lead which I think signifies honesty and maturity, albeit at a relatively tender age, as compared to CJW!!

I'm not quite sure if this is a good idea for CJM. He became more popular after CS but not that popular for him to be a household name already. Hopefully his newly formed company won't go bankrupt. It would definitely help him if the ratings of The Duo will be really good (around 30%+).

You can tell how popular he is by simply following this thread. Talent is one thing, good preparation and right opportunity is another. Most important, the affluent level of his clientele.
he should read Sun Ze Art of War. He should know himself better before picking his battle. My assessment of him is that he is quite ignorant about himself, but know little about his opponent (entertainment business, competition and business abutment). if I am right about his ignorant in which he knows little about himself and know little about his opponent, he is set himself for a rocky road.
when picking a battle, if you know yourself and know your opponent well, you will sure win. If you do know yourself, but know little about your opponent, there is a 50% chances he will fail. if you are ignorant about yourself and ignorant about the industry, you will set yourself to fail badly,

Well he might not be ignorant about the business and he is not getting any younger so it is wise he seeks monetary stability for himself rather than give a majority of it away to others.

He's 31..going to 32. He knows that he's doing. It's part of becoming an adult and making decisions. Whether it 's possible or not..leave it to him. Checking his profile..he's not much to say he's "smart". I only know him when I accidentally opened CS from youtube..but since then I'm an avid fan. Looking forward to his movies and dramas. More power!
