Secret Garden: Episode 14
by girlfriday
Looks like love is in the air. And the real kind, not the Little Mermaid version. Or so we hope. Down with the Mermaid! Sheesh. When did Ariel ever get such a bad rap? Declarations get made, gauntlets get thrown, and secrets get found out. It’s Christmas in the Secret Garden, and it looks like Fate has some interesting things in store…
EPISODE 14 RECAP
Ra-im walks in, dressed to the nines, and on Oska’s arm. He thankfully doesn’t try to use his entrance with Ra-im to bait Seul. Instead he leaves Ra-im with one look at Joo-won, and takes Seul away to talk.
Joo-won has the gall to be mad at Ra-im for her absence these last few days. Dude, you haven’t even apologized yet for YOUR part in all this. He then, because he is Joo-won, looks at the label on her dress and notes that it’s a nice one. Pffft. He is such a girl, sometimes. He asks her if her fairy godmother said that she can stay till midnight, after which she’ll go poof and disappear; she responds that it’s all up to him.
Oska brings Seul a slice of cheesecake, saying that he remembers she likes it, and didn’t eat it because she didn’t want to gain weight. She glares. Oops. Wrong again. This is quite the dangerous game you’re playing. I mean, there’s only so many rounds of this I’d tolerate from a guy before I gave him the boot. Needless to say, Seul’s pissed: “Who’s that girl? So, is she skinny?” Ha. She asks what the hell he’s doing, and he just replies vaguely that he’s going to remember everything, and he’s going to reverse it all.
Joo-won asks what the makeover is about, growing nervous for her answer. She tells him the truth: that she was outside and couldn’t come in, but that her fairy godmother told her to say it to his face—that she’s here to see him. She tells him that she swore to his mother, on the memory of her dad, that she wouldn’t see him anymore. “My body has turned away. But my heart won’t leave.”
She admits that it’ll be hard for her if she continues to see him, but decides that the pain from being with him will be easier to endure…than the pain of not seeing him. Aw. Ra-im: “I’m here. To see you. That’s my answer. But…I’m not going to be the Little Mermaid. So, go ahead and answer. Is the Little Mermaid all that I can ever be?”
He stares back at her, frozen, and then they get interrupted by the last woman that Joo-won met on a blind date. She tries to worm her way into the conversation, but Seul swoops in and takes her away. Hm. What angle is she playing now? Then another interruption, from an annoying acquaintance who asks who Ra-im is.
Joo-won answers that she’s someone he’ll never encounter again, because she’s something else (the connotation of which is purposely ambiguous).
Joo-won: She drives like a car racer. If she witnesses someone’s purse being snatched, someone she’s never met in her life, she’ll throw fists. She has no money and her body is covered in scars, but she doesn’t want to spend even one second of one minute with people like us. She’s that kind of woman. I’ve never seen a woman as cool as her. That…is my answer.
Finally, some words of awesome from his mouth. Ra-im’s eyes fill with tears at his answer.
Seul takes the other girl outside and hilariously gives her the “I’m the crazy bitch in this town” speech, quoting it from dramas. Omg, I totally love her lately. Is she getting more awesome, or is everyone else getting less awesome? Either way, her sass kills me.
She even adds that the girl, whom she calls a thorn, shouldn’t meddle when two people (Ra-im and Joo-won) are just about to admit their feelings and get somewhere. Dude, words right out of my mouth, again.
She heads inside and is taken aback by the music…she looks over to the piano and Oska is playing her favorite song. She walks over and he smiles at her, saying that he finally got one right. Seul is moved to near tears.
She and Oska are both surprised when they look over to Joo-won and Ra-im who have gone from slow dancing to slow kissing. Rawr! Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout, Show! WTF with all that forced bed-hugging when you could have just had smokin’ chemistry like this, all equal-participation-points-with-yummy-lips-and-all?
Ra-im is self-conscious at first because everyone is staring at them, but Joo-won doesn’t care. Of course they’re staring at them, because he just sent the value of his company spiraling down because he kissed a poor stuntwoman. Well that’s an incredibly self-absorbed…oh, wait…right, this is Joo-won. Yeesh.
He kisses her tenderly on the forehead, and then they start making out like no one else is in the room, as Seul, Oska, and the whole party stares on. It does feel like they’re in their own space, moving to a different beat, as they lose themselves in the kiss.
The next day, Oska finds out that his old rival and frenemy Jun-hyuk is back, and that stirs something in his memory…and then he FINALLY remembers that conversation where he said that Seul was nothing to him. It dawns on him that she heard everything, and to his credit, though he remembers it a decade too late, he still goes running over to her.
He’s thwarted by another crisis though, this one a rumor that he knew the plagiarized song was a copy, but pushed it into production anyway. Seul and Tae-sun see the news as well, and Tae-sun calls someone and storms out.
Meanwhile, Joo-won is scared to check his company’s stock value, which only takes a slight dip and remains largely the same, to his relief. He cuts his meeting short, because he has a date. Aw, cute.
Jong-soo gives Ra-im her audition reel for Dark Blood, and Joo-won steals her away for a date. Since Jung-hwan is going to be the new director of the action school, he asks him for permission to take “my Ra-im-ie” away.
They go to her apartment, and he covers her eyes as they enter. She opens her eyes to find her whole place lit up with Christmas lights and a tree. Aw, so cute! Why couldn’t you be this sweet from the beginning and not have been such an ass?
He tells her to wipe her terrible memory of what happened in this place (in answer to her cries in the last episode that she has to eat and sleep in the place where his mother cut her down so harshly), and he tells her to only think of this moment, right now. Aw, so you did all this just to replace her bad memory with a good one? Okay, you’re kinda making it hard not to love you right now.
Then he asks how long Ah-young will be out tonight. He decides he’ll take care of this himself, and pretends to call Secretary Kim to tell him to keep Ah-young out till morning. But in fact he’s calling Ah-young herself, who of course must’ve been the one who let him into the apartment to decorate. She assures him she’ll stay out for a good long while, and tells him to have a good time.
He hangs up and Ra-im gets squeamish about his intentions (oy, let’s not go there again, Show) as he starts to chase her around the apartment. She tells him to keep his distance, as he follows her around, asking what the issue is, since they’re two adults. Well there’s lots of problems, not least of which, you are NOT an adult.
She backs onto the bed, and he looms over her, asking what she thinks he’s going to do, and then crouches down in front of her to hold her hands. Whew. God, I really don’t want to be living with the annoying fear that Episode 13’s bed scene is going to repeat on us. Gah. More on this later.
He has the gall to call her out for having her mind in the gutter. Whatever, There’s-a-room-next-door Boy. He holds her hands and revels in the fact that he finally gets to say, “And what’s so hard about this?” as he clutches her hands and stares lovingly at her face. I love the sweetness of that—that the one thing he’s been dying to do is hold her hands with no reservations.
Oska goes to see the songwriter who lied to the press, and it turns out that it’s someone Tae-sun knows, who happens to have been in love with him despite his being gay. She’s obviously still bitter about it; you really shouldn’t take it personally, not that you’re not a thoroughly evil person, but, you know…you’re just not his type.
Oska fumes, but she just trounces all over him, saying that he’s the one who did this to himself, for being the kind of no-talent star to buy his way to fame rather than work hard for it. She clearly doesn’t know about the kettle and the pot, because she then follows it up with blackmail, asking him for a payoff for her to recount her story.
His manager wants to pay her off, but Oska tells him that he’ll fold all his activities instead. All of this hitting him at once is clearly making him reevaluate himself as a person, and what he’s seeing ain’t so pretty.
Mother Viper gets word of the VVIP party’s kissing couple, and decides to retaliate hardcore. Next thing you know, Secretary Kim is railing into Joo-won for ordering Ah-young fired. Oh, damn. She’s good.
He insists it wasn’t him (which hilariously gets Secretary Kim to back down from his visual representation of You’re a Meanie Evil Boss) and digs around. Meanwhile, Ra-im gets a call from the Mother Snake herself, telling her that this is just the warning; she hasn’t even begun the real torture yet. She tells Ra-im to ask herself if she can be happy at the expense of her friend’s happiness, and leaves her hanging.
Ah-young comes home and doesn’t let on that she was fired, because she clearly knows why. She lies that she had it out with a co-worker and quit, and is happy to take some time off to catch up on old dramas. Sigh. Is it wrong if I’m jealous?
What a good friend. But since Ra-im is one too, she runs out of there right away, to go have it out with Joo-won’s mother. Joo-woon pulls up to the house at the same time, and they argue outside about who should be the one to take care of the situation. Joo-won insists that he has a master plan…to tattle to Grandpa. Pfffft. And Man-Child of the Year goes to…
But as they argue, thunder clouds roll in, and it starts to rain. Here we go…it’s re-swap time! And not a moment too soon, really, because while I’m happy with this episode’s developments, sure did take us forever to get here.
They look at each other and know right away what happened. It’s actually hilarious that they’re not even surprised anymore. They curse their luck at switching at this moment, which is of course right when Mother pulls up and tells them both to come inside. This should be good.
A refresher on body-swap names: soul first, body second. Ra-Him is Ra-im in Joo-won’s body (Hyun Bin) and Joo-wonda is Joo-won in Ra-im’s body (Ha Ji-won).
They both point out that going for the best friend is a low blow. Mom counters that this isn’t the Olympics; fair play does not apply. Oh, um. Good point. One point, Mom. Joo-wonda notes the tactic that Mom will inevitably employ: first the friend, then the job, then the home, then out of the country. Mom’s eyebrows go up as her master plan gets recited to her, and she assumes that Ra-im has encountered this treatment before.
Joo-wonda says they’ll stop dating…they’re going to live together instead. Cue unholy horror. He adds that this is all for her son, because if they’re not together, he might die of lovesickness. Ha.
He tells Mom that she doesn’t have the right to fire Ah-young; he’ll see to it that she’s sued if she pursues it, and that if she really can’t stand to see them together, they’ll just go live abroad or something. He asks if that’s what she really wants—to never see her son again.
Mom of course (not knowing that this is coming straight from her son) thinks that this girl is threatening her with balls of steel, and asks what Joo-won thinks. Ra-Him answers that she thinks Joo-wonda is right. She’s decided to trust this person from now on. With that, they leave Mom.
They head to Ra-im’s place, where the Magic Veil of Un-switchiness takes over so that they’re back in their own bodies. Already? So un-fun, this veil.
Ra-im wants to figure out why they switched again, but Joo-won’s got other things on his mind. He meant what he said to Mom and wants Ra-im to pack a bag now so that they can start living together, this instant. Ra-im shuts him down; they have bigger worries than that, with their swapped state.
She wonders if there’s a common connection every time the switch occurred, and they realize it’s connected to the rain. She looks up the weather forecast and it’s not due to rain for another week. Joo-won: “What? That means we can’t kiss for a whole week?” Ha.
Ra-im wonders how he ever endured all this time NOT kissing her, then, and he shares his little secret of the rhyme he chants. He takes the phone and looks again at the weather. “New York. It’s raining in New York. Let’s go.” Ra-im: “You want to go to New York, so we can kiss?” Heh.
They decide that they can live each other’s lives for a week till they switch back, and agree that it’ll be easier this time around, since they’ve got the routine down.
To that end, they sit down and go over the important things going on in their lives. Ra-im has the big audition for Dark Blood coming up, so Joo-wonda has to train. We flashforward to see them training together. Joo-wonda in turn trains Ra-Him on his signature, and what to sign for. He tells her not to accept greetings from his staff, but she tells him that she will, since that’s a habit he should fix: “You have to earn respect. If you don’t like it, date another woman.” Awesome.
Joo-wonda says there’s one more thing. They stand up, and he tells Ra-Him to close her eyes. He walks over and hugs her (as the veil un-switches them for a moment) and says, “Our bodies are swapped, but once a day, we hug each other, like this.” Aw.
At their respective jobs, Ra-Him signs for Ah-young to be promoted, and Joo-wonda trains…only it doesn’t look so hot when he’s swordfighting, making Jung-hwan and Jong-soo wonder what’s wrong with Ra-im. Jung-hwan wonders if she got dumped by Joo-won. Jong-soo: “Let’s bring him here and beat him up.” Hahahaha.
Ra-Him and Joo-wonda confer at the end of their day at a coffee shop, and decide to meet here every day to go over the major decisions. This is so much easier when you guys aren’t at each other’s throats and trying to purposely ruin each other’s lives! Ra-Him gets excited about attending the action school’s Christmas party, which Joo-wonda rags on for being lame.
Oska cancels his Christmas concert, and when they try to offer the fans their money back, they decline and send him gifts instead, with a message that they’ll wait until he does the concert some other time. That’s cute. But Oska is feeling too low to face any of it, and insists that their money just be returned.
He spends Christmas Eve alone, until Seul arrives, worried about him and thinking it was better than him being all alone. She brings him the cutest Christmas cake ever, and while she lights the candles, he goes over to the piano.
He starts playing, and thanks everyone for attending his concert, and for sticking with him…through the end. Seul’s eyes fill with tears as he serenades her with a slow version of “Here I Am.”
It’s a stellar performance from both of them, as he sings full of regret and longing, and she cries, unable to hold back her emotion any longer. It’s actually moving, which I didn’t think I’d be saying about these two characters’ potential for a reunion.
Ra-Him arrives at the action school with her gift exchange present in hand, and is surprised to find that Joo-wonda is not only there, but has contributed to decorations and party supplies. She asks what he’s doing here, and he responds with the duh answer: he wants to spend Christmas Eve with you, doofus.
One hilarious moment is everyone’s reaction when one of the trainees confesses his love for Ra-im, to everyone’s horror. Joo-wonda ends up laughing at the action school hijinks and having a good time, despite himself. Ra-Him adorably even sneaks a handholding session with him behind Jung-hwan’s back.
The next day Ra-Him looks in the mirror as she shaves, and swoons over feeling close to him, like they’re standing together, if she closes her eyes. She notices the bottle of pills on the counter, and flashes back to Oska’s oblique references to an accident, memory loss, and seeing someone named Ji-hyun about pills.
She walks over to Oska’s house, and he happens to be sitting there with Ji-hyun, because he needed some sleeping pills. Ra-Him doesn’t know her, so she treats her like a stranger, confusing them. She realizes that she’s supposed to know her…
Meanwhile, Jong-soo sees Joo-wonda looking at the picture of Ra-im and her father, and asks about the exact day. Joo-wonda asks what day, is it Jong-soo’s birthday? Jong-soo looks at her, puzzled…
Back at Oska’s, Ra-Him plays it off like she was just kidding, and gets away with vague responses as Ji-hyun makes her exit. Then Ra-Him sits down to ask Oska if he knows Ji-hyun’s phone number, since he lost it and needs to ask her something. HA! This is hilarious.
Oska looks at him like he’s gone insane…
Jong-soo can tell that something’s not right, and to confirm, he pretends the date he was talking about was his birthday. Joo-wonda just responds in kind. God, any idiot can tell it’s supposed to be the day her father died! He confirms it with one more fact: he casually mentions that their sunbae Ji-hoon called to ask about her. Joo-wonda pretends to recognize the name and wonders if he has the number…
Jong-soo stares a hole right through Joo-wonda’s head, as he finally asks, “Who are you?”
Cut to Oska, asking Ra-Him the same question: “Who are you? You’re not Kim Joo-won.”
Jong-soo: Kim Ji-hoon died three years ago. And that’s the date that Ra-im’s father died.
Oska: Ji-hyun is the person who just walked out. Who are you, and where is my little brother, Kim Joo-won?
Aw, hells yeah!
COMMENTS
Finally, something new in the dynamic! I can’t wait till Jong-soo and Oska muck things up with their knowledge. What a great scene to have their realizations come simultaneously like that. It makes so much more sense that people this involved in their lives would notice that something was awry. The fact that they didn’t notice it the first time was hilarious for the hijinks (lest we forget the kissing cousins) but not so realistic, so I’m glad that something’s finally going to come of their swap this time around, other than the novelty of driving each other’s bodies around.
This episode was a much-needed up-tick, because as stellar as the chemistry is between the actors, the story wasn’t doing anything new for a good long while. In this episode we finally saw a major shift in the relationships with declarations and answers, and now some real suspense as Oska and Jong-soo hone in on the body swap. Hope they stay swapped for longer this time, enough for the suspicions to make things more complicated, and more hilarious.
As for the spirited debate over Episode 13’s bed scene: many people have argued that intent (to only hug) excuses actions (forcing her onto the bed for a hug). Does that mean if I steal twenty dollars from javabeans with the intention of giving it back (really, I swears it!) that means my actions are justified? Intent is important, sure—it’s the very crucial difference between murder and manslaughter, for instance—but that doesn’t mean that there are no consequences for the action. You still gotta do time for manslaughter.
I don’t know what Joo-won’s intent was, because I’m not him. But his actions violated the one principle, in my book, that should be universal: when I say get off of me, get the fuck off of me. I don’t care if Ra-im is a Badass Stuntmaster Extraordinaire™ or the goddamn Second Coming of Yoda; whether man or woman, big or little, strong or weak, this is a fundamental respect for another human being’s body that should be adhered to. That’s MY universe, and dramas, and all fiction, no matter how fantastical or mystical, are a reflection of that ‘verse.
When they mess with my fundamental rules, it’s my prerogative to get my sparkly panties in a bunch over it, as it is anyone else’s, to do the opposite. That’s the fun, yeah? It’s naïve to assume that television as a form of popular entertainment is not borne of a culturally specific time and place, and that it has no effect on the world it came from, or the one that will come after it. That is the cycle of pop culture and the way we consume, react to, and create it.
Unwanted-advances-as-romance is a socially problematic issue. If the argument is that Ra-im really did want the advances, well then I’d say, Drama, she should have said, “Yes, please, with a snuggle on top!” and not, “No.” Javabeans was calling attention to something that is actually a rather old issue to have plagued many works of fiction and in many ways more egregious than Secret Garden‘s. But that doesn’t excuse the drama from having made the call to portray that scene in all its ambiguity. Of course we’re going to call Show out on that shit. Hello, have you met us?

When i rethink the bed scene on ep 13. It was kindda like a violation but his just being himself. I mean seriously I dont think he cares as long as he gets some body to body contact with his love. And plus they had the body swap thingo so his quite familiar with her body. XD
BTW thankk you for the recaps, i died of happiness when i saw this was up. <3 =))

God.I loved ep 14.Thank you for the recap.I've watched the kissing scene so many times and it still makes me squeal. So I am shallow but man it's good 'it's not a blink and it's gone kiss scence' :-)
On the other hand...where did the romantic JW suddenly spring from?He was such an idiot the last few episodes I didn't even think he would know how to treat a girl properly. Not that he does all the time.Crikey, checking out RI's dress label.
I just have to say I know that angst is coming but man this show is really good, funny and entertainining.I love it.Yahoo :-)

The first and only thing I notice in this episode was the kiss, unlike "Personal Taste" kiss they did not try to hide the passion with object like a wall, even with the circling of the Christmas decoration they zoom in every time for a close up. Hyun bin own this kiss, NR really didn't have to to do much but response with her body and her head and the girl did her thing. I love the maturity of this drama it still the holy conservative but as realistic that normal person like myself can relate too. I really lose it when they in they are in they 30, crap even when they are 24 no pun attended "Mary Mary Me" where they act like they never took a sex education class, if they pay attention they would have realizes that hold hands don't make babies. I like like this drama can't wait till the next delightful episode

Totally agree on you with this one. I think this kiss is so far the BEST kiss in kdramas I've seen....(if I am wrong, I guess I didn't see any drama who can top this..lol)
I don't know how many times I've repeated this scene just for the cuteness and the passion the characters are emoting....:) I wish Binnie is still single and Ha Jiwon too...they would make a great couple for real..not just for reel...

First, thank you for the recap and review. I love this drama btw. I did not post any comment on episode12 recap/review, enjoying the spirited debate too much just by reading it. Pheww, talking about reading 400 comments and still growing the last time I check. Thank you JB, Beaners (both sides :)) and now GF for making me oppugning my self. I guess, no-drama for the kids until they turn umm, 18? Still very much in love with Secret Garden though considering the alternative which aired last night *JB, good luck on recapping that one*. Btw just found this site this year, better late than never right. So Thank you GF, JB, and Beaners, drama-watching never been this fun.

Thank you for your recaps :)
I'm glad joo-won and ra-im finally choose to walk together and face all things together, that's grown up love, because I will be pissed if joo-won's attitude change after something big happen, like she's sick or near to die or going abroad or choose to be with someone else....
Actually I hope jong-soo and oska find out about the body swap. I don't know why but I think that will be fun because they're facing a real situation together and their efforts to solve the problem with their own unique personality will be interesting to watch.

Jong-soo: Kim Ji-hoon died three years ago. And that’s the date that Ra-im’s father died.
WW commented: when Joo-won is looking at the photo of Ra-Im and her father, he thinks to himself, “You’re quite familiar …”
Could it be that Ra Im's father, as a firefighter, rescued Joo Won in the accident that they refer to? He died saving Joo Won's life? Would that make sense? Her father died when she was 17, right? But she's been at the action school for about 7 years. It's not clear how long ago Joo Won had the accident.

i think so too about the father being the life saviour of joo won..
but if he did so...i REALLY hope that it wouldn't affect their reationship..
i mean i don't want ra-im to have a second thought about them n starting to part away..that would be heartbreaking.. :'(

J: This is the day, right?
R: Oh, is it your birthday?
J: *SHOCKED* why, you don't want to give me a bday gift?
R: heh!
J: *suspicious* By the way, I got a call from Kim Ji-hoon sunbae... he's asking how you're doing
R: oh? did he tell you that? ah i think i lost his number... can you give it to me so i can call him back?
J: *SHOCKED* Who are you?
----------------------------------
In my opinion, Jong-soo tested Ra-im TWICE...
1. Jong-soo was referring to Ra-im's father's death as TODAY's date, december 5th. He tested her by granting her guess as "it's his birthday" and asked for a gift.
2. Kim Ji-hoon sunbae is NOT Gil Ra-im's father.. Jong-soo just tested Ra-im if she knew Kim ji-hoon sunbae who died 3 years ago, and a common acquaintance to both of them...
----------------
As i remember from what the conversation he had with Seul, OSKA is 35. Joo-won is younger than him.
In Joo-won's conversation with "cupid", Joo-won is 34, and 4 yrs senior than cupid, so he demanded formal speech. He had an accident when he was younger, hence the claustrophobia and the psychological disorder.
Ra-im lost her father when she was 17, trying to save somebody from an accident. How old she is now, i don't know. How far was it long ago, i don't know...

Hands down, I say I salute your awesome writing ability. I used to be casual visitor, only comes in whenever the bitch at work pisses me off or I am bored to death doing this BS banking job and wanted to get some time off for myself at the expense of the company, hell yah! But browsing through most of your recaps, I got hooked. Your recap is sometimes more interesting than the drama itself. So here's my piece... I am fully on the same boat about that damn bed scene, I'm wondering if the writer suddenly shows her/his perversion on rape type of cuddling if there's such a thing. So why didn't they put some handcuff while they are at it, or some whip maybe? RARRR! It pisses me off that I keep seeing this on K drama to illicit emotion. So being rough up like that supposed to make alpha female get all lovey dovey horny? kudos to your recap for writing down exactly what I feel when I saw that scene.

It's nice that you have such a passionate stance on the K-Drama habit of...forced-yet-she-liked-it-so-it-was-okay..intentions but I find it a bit hard to nod so approvingly at your opinions when this whole drama is filled with "female hitting male - but that's okay because she's a girl".
I find both things quite unreasonable and frankly it seems you've picked the very easy and safe one to be the defender of justice and feminism for.
Now I'm not saying you have to nit pick every moral dilema this show gives us (one must breathe sometimes) but once you start to make the recaps filled with this passion of the "Episode thirteen bed scene" you forsake the right to not get questioned as to why you are not so passionate about other things.
Like why it is perfectly okay for a strong and muscular stunt woman to hit this man episode for episode....

she hits him because he's being an ass? and when did raim ever violate/abuse joowon just because she felt like it? joowon's the initiator here and he's done SO many things where people should've called out YA! THAT'S HARASSMENT! but they stuck with it because it's still tolerable. the forced kiss was pushing the boundaries of "sweet harmless romcom". when he forced himself onto her bed, that crossed the line of "sweet harmless". it's like the event that smashed the rosey-colored spectacles that insisted "oh it's okay because he likes her and she'll like him back soon enough."

AGREE!
ep.14 is damn great! i wish everybody stop debating on ep.13's bed scene here~
i was so happy when the epic ep.14's recaps was up and yet get disappointed when the same old discussion of ep.13 is haunting this one.
let's move on everybody. SG is a great drama! so let's enjoy it to the end~ and if anybody want to rant about the inappropriateness of joo won's force-hug scene, do it in ep.13's recaps please? coz ep.14 is just love! don't spoil the fun!~
i do agree that girlfriday has the right to voice out her opinion too on that matter... but maybe in ep.13's recaps please? ep.14's recaps is awesome (as always), but the last paragraphs (comments), really bring back the sour feeling we get after reading all comments of ep.13~ still, i appreciate your hardwork JB & GF! <3

So it's OK to hit someone because they say something you don't like? I am amused and rather appalled at the authors and many of the readers of this blog trying to justify their uneven morality and reverse sexism in the name of feminism. That sort of loopy logic is what gives feminism a bad name and is, no doubt, where the term feminazi originated from.
Thanks for trying to tell all women out there what does or does not constitute sexism because, clearly, we are too dumb and blind to figure it out for ourselves. There is a difference between being pushed around by someone you love and a stranger. This drama isn't setting a premise it's exploring a real life scenario. Despite many of you desperately trying to write your own PC version of the world it happens between people everyday to real women who are more than capable of making up their own minds whether they were assaulted or not.

Oh yes, poor Joo Won. All that stalking and harassment and he gets a kick in the shin? Femnazi!
It's hilarious how you try to justify how just downright weird and wrong JW's actions would be in the real world all because you're annoyed at the "PC" view people are taking towards his advancements (and in particular the bed scene).
"There is a difference between being pushed around by someone you love and a stranger."
Haha, oh there is. One claims to love you while the other doesn't bother. Being "pushed arround" is still being "pushed around".

I don't find him that weird or that wrong but even if he were it doesn't justify violence even if that violence is just a "kick in the shins". So that fact that so many people are more than happy to overlook it makes it clear that your agenda has nothing to do with equality, fairness or concern for the poor innocents who might get the wrong impression. ;)

i actually totally agree with Acidimp. i think you're missing the point that JB and GF are choosing to specifically focus on one incident of injustice against a sex but totally ignores it when the opposite is happening. I am not saying JW doesn't deserve to be slapped in the face from time to time..but if i am not going to take issue with him getting beaten up, it doesn't make sense for me to suddenly rail up against the wrongness of JW using his strength against RI.

dude, no such thing as 'reverse sexism'. Sexism means being biased towards a particular sex. 'Reverse sexism' is a redundant term. Whenever I see it I find it hard to take seriously what the author is saying.

Of course there is. Sexism is largely used in reference to oppression of women by men...many dictionaries go so far as to define sexism as the oppression of women by men. While reverse sexism is not technically correct it is well recognized on the cultural level.

It's also historic context- uneven male power over females (including females as possessions, females not having the right to possession- including children- males having the right to physically abuse females they own etc.) is an old, old problem. Greeks, Chinese, Hebrew... doesn't matter, from what little I know much of early human records show a power disparity that continues to this day.
So when a female character hits a male character it's wrong. I don't defend it. Violence is never the answer, but it doesn't have the historic sting that the opposite action (or a hug/kiss forced by a male character on a female) has.
Like why jokes about "ridding the world of homosexuals" raises more alarm bells than jokes about "ridding the world of heterosexuals". Yes all jokes are jokes, but one just hits too close to some recent/current truths to be handled without care.

The girl hitting the male is not to achieve a climax of some sort but to knock the shit out of his earlobes. I don't think she feels rewarded whatsoever doing this.
The guy applying physical force to gain an all-points-contact-from-chest-to-toe feeling her flesh and all, achieves self gratification or perhaps a reverse-orgasm because he is dying to feel her bones. Apparently that's all he needed ...a hug to feed his longing using force.
That doesn't sound fair...is it?

@ Anon 61,Viv,byj_angel,i'm not a rapist,Acidimp and Watchunlots i'm feeling all of you and your message here here. Boy am i not surprise Miss Defensive would weigh in with her pov that would be GF since she didn't like being called out on comparing SKKS to Coffee Prince what a shock instead of just applaud a person who agreed with her partner and not leaving her two cents on that recap she had to drag it once again into this recap.
So i feel compelled to continue sorry for those who are annoyed by this. I must ask every single person who has had problem with this scene have you taken the time to voice your complaints to the writers, director, producer and the station that airs this show? Surely you must have by the response gender by this scene but most of all what some consider a woman's acceptance of male dominance whether they like it or not? Are you willing to drop this drama right now and in the future drop dramas that make you uncomfortable and cringe and a little concerned about the message they are sending?
Are you willing to enlighten the masses not only by this blog but have meetings with women who are apart of your own social circle and try to make a change of those who you are close to how they perceive these dramas? Surely those who are up in arms about this scene must be active in their communities trying at the very least to make this happen even if it's small baby steps.
Finally the writer, the producer, the director but most of all the stations are irresponsible for continuing to promote behavior like Joo Won's as romantic. Well guess i agree wholeheartedly with this statement. Not guess who else is irresponsible sending and writing mix messages.
Episode 2 When JW visits Ra Im at the action school and aggressively pulls down her hoodie GF wrote aw.Something about that moment is tender and invasive but tender and sweet. Shouldn't the recapper have stopped at strange and invasive? Later in the episode GF says during the flip scene at the action school after Ra Im flips JW several times but this time he flips her on her back and holds her down. While he's asking her simple questions hahahahaha. She ends this episode in her comments as one of the reasons why i love the actor chosen for this role because he plays man-child roles like nobodies business.Manly but childlike and petulant.
Episode 3 JB writes i didn't know sit ups could be sexy? Wow what about evading someone's personal space here where's the complaint huh? Same episode when Ra Im gets degraded for her bag, recapper writes i don't blame Ra Im if she wants to blacken a few body parts. So it's alright for Ra Im to be physical and hurt him but he can't forced her on the bed just wanting to sleep and hold the one he loves huh?
Episode 4 GF opening comments angry-hot quote i half i always knew the bickering hate phase was intended to spark a few flames.Surely this isn't the same recapper who just weigh in her two cents what was so wrong with the bed scene? Now while you did point out how degrading he was with the dressing room scene when she gets him to stop where was your strong message of how turned off you were from this whole entire scene here? You say sending mix messages and there's no excuse for what you did?In the comment section you wrote they go from i hate you, you disgusting for a human being , kiss me now, and i'll forget it all. In a manner of seconds, in just a look it's crazy good. One would think there would be a serious rant in the comment section of this episode especially from that disturbing dressing room scene. No huh?
Episode 10 GF describes several time JW as a little boy in his behavior. Her response to the coffee kiss Yowza and making her stomach do flip where was the invasion of personal space rant here shouldn't we have been subjected to that during this scene? She makes a move to hit him he warns for every time she hits him he will kiss her in response. GF writes awesome hmmmm very interesting and isn't it?I see a lot of hitting and kissing in their future.Theirs will go down as the great bickering courtships, which i love.
Episode 11 JB writes about the mother from hell scene how Ra Im despite how degraded she feels how she still is affected by JW words and how she might allow herself to be drawn to him if she allows herself. How would any self respecting woman after a scene like that be drawn to any man much less write how a woman could feel herself drawn to one?Forced kiss but the recapper herself questions where's the badass stunt woman we all fell in love with from the first episode why can't she shake off his grasp? Even found when Ra Im innocently grab Oska's butt cheek amusing when he made the remark he would gladly turn his other cheek for her to grab. That suggestion could be considered sexual harassment. In the comment section for this episode you would think the recapper who started this wole bed scene barnstorm would seriously address the forced uncomfortable kiss here go in to great detail like she did with the bed scene in episode 13 nope not a single peep all we get is comparing Ra Im to a doll. What does a child do with a doll? Well it drags it around , sometimes man handles it throws it on a bed forcibly but it does do with any type of sexual content with it. But we are talking about a child right?
Episode 12 GF writes about JW petting her hair and how Ra IM is attracted to him but she's not willing to admit it. The taking of Ra Im's picture on his cell she makes a angry face which of course makes him hotter for her this is written by the recapper. Describes JW at the resort as a five year old as he shouts out but we kissed. This episode ends with the stare no mention of how he saddle up next to her or questioned why she wasn't objecting but waxes poetic about the stare in the comments section recapper says hey a girl can't help how she feels, no matter how much her head is saying no.
Now i ask those where exactly is the responsible writing from these two recappers who want to take the writer for this drama to task? Throughout the recaps i brought we have both individually bringing up how invading a person personal space sweet and tender, laughing about the male overpowering the female and has her flat on her back. One recapper calling for Ra Im using physical violence because she was degraded over her bag.The dressing room scene now a big commotion over that huh calling it crazy good how they have i hate you but kiss me now sort of relationship. The coffee kiss how your stomach did flips after he warn her he respond by kissing her if she continue to use violence with him? Forced kiss where's the badass stunt woman the recapper ask?Doesn't even feel it's necessary to cover or explore it more in the comment section hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.Recapper writes that Ra IM is not willing to admit her attraction for JW.Let's also not forget to referring JW to a childlike or man-child. So tell me it could be nit picking but if you didn't cause a big stink from all of these scenes up to episode 13 bed scene why even go there. Because what you wrote or how you felt during watching this show and then putting it down for your recap was no better than what the writer was trying to convey or make us feel for this show either. If the writer is making this woman accept unacceptable behavior from this man and the message she is giving out so are you in your recaps.

I agree that Joo Won's character has been consistent, and if any objections to his behavior should have been raised they probably should have happened before. I don't agree with all of your examples, like the comments that the recappers made about bickering love, because they did find it interesting and enjoyable, and that's not what they're talking about now. It's an issue of consent. And the fact that a drama is portraying a situation where it COULD be argued that a man forced himself upon a woman and the woman said no but meant yes in a GOOD light. Even before many of these recaps have expressed discomfort at some of jW's actions - but we all knew he was being an ass overall and were ready to see how he would change for the better. And they're not happy about the message the drama industry is sending when continued 'forcing' is still part of the 'better' Joo Won. As jb said, it's one thing to have flawed characters but another thing to portray those flaws as acceptable romantically and in society.
Another thing is that some dramas are like cartoons. Or shoujo manga, or whatever. Every action is exaggerated there, with guys getting punched or kicked by girls (look at Full Metal Alchemist when Winry chases Ed around with a wrench). And Ra Im is a stuntwoman - kicking is in character for her. One other thing is that the two have gotten more used to touching each other after the body swap. Perhaps it would be nice if the writers used offhand comments to remind us of this. But in the drama universe RI and JW live in I think most of us can agree that the bickering relationship was fun and does not raise the issue that most people are discussing. I think it came across as a guy chasing a girl and putting his all into courting her (or all he knew how to do, the socially challenged Joo Won) rather than as creepily stalkerish and forcefully possessive. It showed Ra Im and us how much he loved her and how she was someone he couldn't allow out of his life. I loved him for that. I think everyone was mad at him not for that, but for being a contrarian and saying 'we'll only be together for a little while. You'll be my fling. Little Mermaid. Whatever' while I think his crazy actions show that he's in denial from the beginning.
Anyway. Two more comments on your post: are you supportive or against these things, and trying to say it's weird to call out the bed scene when we enjoyed the other scenes you listed, or make a point that the issue you see has been around since the beginning of the drama? If you were really bothered by all those things - which means you're taking earlier actions much more seriously and literally than I am, but that's perfectly fine - then maybe you'd be happier with another drama.
But to me - from the tone - it sounded like this post was yelling at the recappers. That makes me sad because they put a lot of time and effort and care in writing these recaps for us and adding their reactions and analyses, their rants and ravings. This is really a unique and special site, and I admire them and other bloggers for giving us these gifts. I understand that many have strong opinions on this, and it's great that you are taking some time to share them and make us think too.
But if this discussion is making people unhappy, they should keep their comments toned, switch out of the offense, or move on.

I believe in my first couple of paragraphs anyone who read it they got my message of how i feel about this. Also i made it very clear if it bothers those who are so upset with this drama why are they still watching it? Why should i be happy with another drama this statement makes no sense whatsoever since i have no problem whatsoever with how the drama is betrayed. Really is this the best you can do championing those two by trying to dictate and slyly cover up your true intent? Telling me to go to another show? Laughable indeed perhaps you need to go to another show.
You really don't have to like my tone because i do have the right to call out nonsense when i see it or read it now if you get a different interpretation from the scenes i described and how each person doing the recap wrote about and how they felt watching that scene by all means continue to be a person who is easily lead by others. I'm not the one who opened this can of worms if their not big enough to handle the criticism of what they wrote then they shouldn't ever started it.Finally your last sentence should be applied to yourself if my comments are making you unhappy stop reading it and move on.
It really does amaze me how certain people are shown the inconsistency in their statements or their feelings that they can't handle the truth. Like i said if the writer of this drama is irresponsible so are the two people who are recapping it with their comments.

With regards to post 61, I can see your point about Ra Im kicking him all the time, but I must point out those times are infrequent and usually follows when he refuses, yet again, to take no for an answer. If I were to rate the issues on importance, the treatment of Ra Im takes precedence for a number of reasons.

Thank you for the recap!!!
Best episode so far :) involved a lot of girlish squealing when they FINALLY let their true feelings out and kissed! I love how Ra-im and Joo-won are both so honest to themselves and each other about their feelings now. And that oska and seul have resolved all that angst, it was getting tiring to watch them have misunderstanding after misunderstanding.
Though everyone's wishing joo-won will grow up or man up, I appreciate how he's a man-child and when it comes to his feelings for Ra-Im there's always this boyishness and naivety about him cos he's never fallen this hard for anyone I'm guessing. They are such a fantastic couple :) both odd-balls (though joo-won takes the cake for being completely crazy sometimes) and vastly different but yet so compatible!

This is the episode I've been waiting for since the body switch/back. Why the fascination with bickering couples?
Lots of hackles were raised about the bed scene in Ep 13, but why? Here is what I have learned about Korea and Korean culture from K-Dramas:
1) Somebody's gonna get slapped!
2) Somebody's gonna get kicked in the chin and/or have their foot stomped.
3) Someone is going to be dragged around by their wrist.
(Do Koreans accept lots of violence in their society?)
4) Mothers of Korean sons are wicked bitches out to make their daughter-in-laws' life a misery.
5) Rich people have hideous personalities and morals, but fabulous clothes.
6) Common people have great personalities and morals, but lousy, frumpy clothes.
7) Rich people are always improved by their associations with common people.
8) Rich people drive jazzy cars and/or have chauffeurs.
9) Poor people get caught in the rain waiting for the bus.
10) The boys are pretty and all have their hair cut using the same bowl. (It's the 1960's, England mod-style revisited.)
11) All the women wear a big 'plunk' of bangs across their forehead.
12) Kissing is a big-freakin' deal!
13) Unmarried girls are always assumed to be virgins and have chaste relationships until the worthy guy FINALLY kisses them. The wicked mother magically discovers the girls' worthiness and approves the marriage.
I could go on...
If the writers of K-Dramas were seriously concerned about social issues and social 'correctness' they would not validate the above (I am assuming) stereotypes. American TV has more kissing and sex, but much less slapping. I am absolutely dying to see what a Korean person would say if their only impression of America & Americans was from soap operas or TV programs.
It's K-Drama! (Emphasis on the DRAMA)

About your number 6 (Common people have...lousy, frumpy clothes):
In episode 5, when Gil RaIm visited Jeju Island, the blue cardigan with gold buttons she was wearing was "Marc" by Marc Jacobs Kelly Wool Cardigan from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection. That normally costs around USD 250.=P I'm also pretty sure her shoes in this ep (the heeled ankle boots) were designer shoes too.
hehehe.... sure they're styled frumpily, but their clothes are expensive are brand name clothes. Mary of MSOAN wears designer clothes and shoes too.XD

I had my suspicions about the clothes for a while now, thanks for confirming it.
Perhaps Joo Won's obsession with designer labels is a dig at this practise in drama - i.e. the 'poor heroine' is actually running around in designer duds and has a magic wardrobe at home.

When I started watching K-dramas I was amazed how often parents/ mothers were portrayed beating their grown children, especially their sons.
you forgot
u) couples dressing
w) couple's ring
x) someone will get too drunk to get home on their own
y) someone will need to be piggyback ride
z) a human being will change after a automobile that is taking way the object of their desire, just like a dog would.

yeah, what is it with the 'couples' dressing? I see newly-married couples wearing the same ridiculous pajamas, and dash under the blankets to infer sex.
Oh, there are lots more cultural idioms:
* FIGHTING! (what is up with that? think it has something to do with the north/south Korean war)
* couples anything
* a "date" being a big deal
* grabbing and dragging
* some rice dish with everything in the house added eaten out of a big bowl
* arguments over how to cook/eat a package of ramen
JB & GF do a great job of summarizing drama episodes. My only complaint is that they don't do MORE! I want MORE!!!
I also learn from viewers responses, so thank you for that too.

love, love LOVE this episode... but hate hate HAAATE this episode for leaving us an ENTIRE WEEK with the cliffhanger!!! How am I going to LIVE UNTIL SATURDAY?!?!?
I'm also really beginning to like Seul. She's hilariously awesome. I never really hated her, or anyone in this drama actually. They're all pretty open and blunt to each other. The only person that annoys me sometimes is the director guy who just keeps everything to himself and broods.
The only scene I feel was a bit wack was when Joo-won wanted a hug-a-day with Ra-im. How awesome would it have been for Joo-wonda to climb onto the table to hug Ra-Him. It would be such a cute scene! Boogers!

Thank goodness that this episode concludes the "will they won't they" portion of the drama. For real... that mutual kiss is a much hotter than any forced romantic gestures from JW. And yea, how adorable is that, now they're willing to fight for one another, and working together to cope with the second body swap.
I was a little nervous about how things are coming out in the open and going so well... like they say, things aren't going to end well once they get past the honeymoon phase. So I was relieved they bought in another factor, like getting found out about the swap, to resolve that.
I was waiting for Ra-Im to learn about JW's condition/past from the doctor so she can help him heal. I guess that can of worms doesn't need to be opened yet. Or maybe it's tied in with the supernatural side of the story.
And Seul sure is sassy. Definitely more likeable and more kick"butt" now. I love that scene, she tells it like it is :)

i fell in love with this drama for the first couple of episodes but then it kind of spiralled down a bit and i didn't have as much time on my hands so i was going to give up on it. but this recap instils faith in me again so i'll have to watch ep 13 and 14 and keep going yay.
about the scandal!scene in the last one, i completely agree with you. as fanatic as i am about kdramas or movies or cliche stereotypes (actually in a lot of them i eyeroll at the cheesiness and mock the stupid dialogue in rom coms - i ruined love and other drugs for everybody else in the audience i think >_>) some things should never be crossed. and if it's shown on tv like this for such a target audience, it's just another subconscious manoeuvre for guys and girls to think it's hot instead of what could easily be considered assault.
but anyway, thanks times a million for the recap! <3

Wow the 'infamous episode 13 bed scene' aftershock is evident in this thread. It is still very much emphasised how wrong that scene appeared to be. Yes, it kinda violated values and principles of some but my advice is that everyone should forget about it and move on.. Comon it was a mutual enjoyment! i don't see any point in furthering the issue , i mean i've seen it done in other korean dramas, I don't know why it is so wrong for JW to do that and besides ra-im appeared to be enjoying the moment as well (and me). what he did for far from harrassment. Honestly speaking, i didn't feel anything while watching the bed scene. It does seem unecessary but it is in no way a form of harassment! JW was not forcing himself on her, he didn't strip, he didn't kiss her!! OMFG stop revisiting that scene it will only cause audience to have a low opinion of joowoon.
Aside from that, this episode deserves a thumbs up from me , because of the 'love moment' between the leads and the revelation that TS is GAY. the kiss was the main highlight for this and definitely confirmed their relationship!!! Rawr . yer
OH yeah go taesun-Oska-seul romance wooooo
Honeslty, i Odn't know who to root for

I guess it will be a while for the "bed scene" debate to end, since both sides will always feel they are right no matter what the other one says.
On another note I have to say that I LOVE THE KISS SCENE!!
I kept re-watching the kiss over and over again and kept screaming of joy(jeez good thing I was by myself).
And how cool is that Seul help them, despite her issues she obviously understood what was going on, and she also knew what to do with the other girl. The song "SHE" was so perfect for the scene as well as the other one(sorry can't remember the name of it), Oh man that was the longest hottest kiss scene I have ever seen in a k-drama, I look so natural and real!!!
I am loving this drama more and more and I'm already dreading the day it will end, because I will be so sad.

When Seul told the blind date girl off, I yelled "Unnie!!!!!!" to my screen, which is saying a lot since I never really liked her...
She was awesome. The scene where Oska sings "here i am" to her is so beautiful too. I'm glad they finally got a lovely scene without angst and fighting.

Yeah... forget about the bed scene and move on already! We are never going to get it resolved anyway, there are too many people with different opinions, and everyone is entitled to his/her own opinions.
I love the party kiss at the start of this episode. One of the viewer was right, Hyun Bin owns this kiss.
It wasn't only tender and gentle but it was long drawn out, so that no one can missed it or mistake it. It was in a public arena but it was oddly intimate, like both of them were in their own worlds. He wasn't pushy or forceful at all, but he was loving and sweet.
What a lucky girl RI is!
I like Oska and Seul too. I like Joong Soo too!
Secret Garden has cast a magic spell over its fans, much like the fairy dust, the tears, shouts of (physical) pain, and laughter, and Oska's romantic serenading over the piano keys, the soft, glistening light in Ra Im's eyes, Joo Woo's handsome looks or Seul's deep, painful passion, and Joong Soo's waiting for love...
Good job, director, writer, producers and actors of Secret Garden!

Thank you for the recap!!
I loved how episode 14 surprised me! Seriously, as much as I am a Secret Garden junkie, things didn't seem to be moving much and it was sort of obvious as of episode 13 that we're going to have Joo-won's mom trying to eff everything up for them while the two characters have sweet times. Seul and Oska would probably fight in circles again, etc.. And I knew a body switch was coming up and I knew I wasn't too fond with how it was handled the first time.
So I looked towards episode 14 with trepidation and was pleasantly surprised. 1. some emotional development in the Seul/Oska story (I think they're slowly reacquainting themselves with each other. I think the first time they fell in love was just hormones.) 2. Ra-Im daring Joo-won to see her as more than just The Little Mermaid 3. Joo-won actually listening to Ra-Im for once when she's upset and took those horrible memories and made some good ones to replace them 4. JW one-upped his mother and got Ah-young her job back 5. JW and RI, post-switch, actually considering each other and trying their best to not shame the other and 6. and Jong-soo and Oska finding out (did. not. see. this. coming. at. all.)
(#6 is very important to me because I'm a huge fan of Fringe and if you have seen the first half of season 3 these past few months (which btw is mindblowingly awesome) and were equally annoyed with Peter for not figuring it out sooner, then you'd know how much I like this scene)
I am a bit baffled though that while they figured out that the rain if making them switch, they hadn't considered the fact that the switch happened the night they walked into an uber-sketchy house and drank alcohol, offered by some stranger who lived in said-uber-sketchy house. Don't they watch movies? Don't walk into sketchy houses in the middle of the woods! Have a sense of self-preservation!
I look forward to episode 15 with still with trepidation because Joo-won thought Ra-Im's dad looked familiar. Oh gosh, please no 'i-am-responsible-for-your-father's-death' angst!

So true!
Unfortunately for your trepidation, I think it's gotta be your last sentence...

Yeah, I can understand this whole 13 controversy, but it makes me feel a bit better to know that Ra Im could have beaten the crap out of him if she really did feel violated by his actions. True, though, that we shouldn't look upon force as romantic. It's really not.

ppl keep saying that Ra-Im could have defended herself, but really I'm not so sure Ra-Im could have. Some people brought up a good point in the episode 13 comments that a real fight is more uncertain and unpredictable. Someone just needs to get in one lucky hit or grab and then it's game over. Remember episode 2 when Ra-Im flipped Joo-won over twice. She tried to do it a third time but Joo-won was smart enough to know she would repeat the exact same move, dodged it, and then flipped HER down. Sorry to say that Ra-Im is more brawn than brains and sometimes brains and creativity can outdo brute stretch.
And I don't feel like Ra-Im has had close hand-to-hand combat. And doing martial arts isn't the same as grappling with someone. Stunts are choreographed and martial arts have rules that martial artists tend to respect.

Maybe someone has already brought this up but I found the sit-up scene just as problematic. I was surprised Ra-Im put up with Joo Won's behaviour and comments for as long as she did during the situps. That scene definitely looked like harassment to me, especially since she barely knew him at that point.

I think you were a little hars with your words, just like "Sammj" said if you don't like it just don't read it.
I also wished we would not be talking about a scene that happened on the previous episode, but I understand that this is a hot topic that has people divided. In reality regardless of who is right or wrong at this point both sides will continue to try to convince the other of why they believe they are right. For now the best thing to do is either stay away from this heated argument or just keep commenting on the actual episode and the parts you like the most.
I just hope that by next episode this issue is completely resolve and we all get to enjoy it TOGETHER as a family like we were doing before this war of who is right or wrong started.

Regarding the bed scene in episode 13...
Despite obvious attempts to make it playful, I found it uncomfortable to watch as well. But what bothered me more (and I don't think this has been mentioned yet) was the fact that JW threatened RI (again semi-playfully) that he would violate her further if she did not stop squirming. The word JW used was 덮쳐 (deop-chyeo) which loosely means to force oneself upon another/ pounce on another. It's hard to imagine any woman being okay with this.
And I hate the fact that the writer (who is a woman herself) made Ra-im's character compliant (she honestly could've headbutted him, bit him, anything...) while making Joowon's character crossing-the-line invasive and predatory.

I agree with you completely, Lahlita! (And you too, Girlfriday!) But I probably could not sell Mi Ho down the river for anyone, ha ha...I really loved her as a character (AND she is an example of a lead female I would consider a very positive role model AND her relationship with Dae Woong later in the drama is an example of a healthy, loving, adorable relationship, bar some of the Noble Idiocy that had to take place).
I also think that while everyone is entitled to their own opinions, that since JB and GF are writing all of these recaps that people could show them a basic level of respect. (Unless, that is, they are taking the Joo Won approach? Though I found him more sympathetic in episode fourteen, and that kiss? Rawr.)

"Unwanted-advances-as-romance is a socially problematic issue. Hello, have you met us?"
Love love your comment Girlfriday! Hurahhhhh to Dramabeans. All the more now that i am ever proud of being one of the avid followers of this site. Not for naught that the site, among others, is for deconstructing Kdramas. Love it.
And yes, am so loving the way the story is unfolding right now. can't wait for the weekend.
