Kim Sun-ah eyes sports film for next project
by girlfriday
Ever since Kim Sun-ah (City Hall, My Name Is Kim Sam-soon) dropped out of I Am Legend (and thank ye drama gods, really, because she would’ve been So. Wasted. had she taken that role), the industry has been waiting with bated breath for her to choose her next project. It hasn’t been confirmed, but it looks like a sports movie opposite Kim Joo-hyuk (Terroir, Sleeping With the Enemy) is the top contender.
The sports-human drama is called Fighting Spirit [투혼], and is the dramatic story of a major league baseball pitcher who falls into a slump, ending up in the minors, who struggles to get back in the game. He puts his wife and kids through hell to do it, and their relationship becomes another battle for them to conquer.
If cast, Kim Joo-hyuk will play the talented but short-tempered pitcher, and Kim Sun-ah will play the woman who married him for love, but struggles in the face of keeping their family afloat alone. Personally, I’d rather see Kim Sun-ah play the pitcher, a la A League of Their Own, but that’s just my preference for badass-Kim-Sun-ah.
Kim Joo-hyuk has recently completed filming his Korean War film with Jung Ryeo-won, Sleeping With the Enemy, and is looking for his next project. Kim Sun-ah’s last project was last year’s political-romance drama City Hall. Would be great to see her in a film AND a drama in the coming year. Hey, a girl can dream.
Fighting Spirit will begin production early next year.

OMG! I have been going through Kim Sun-Ah withdrawal since City Hall.
This is great that she's doing a film but I really want to see her in a drama. Her badassery is just what I need right now for motivation, lol.
That said, I'm marathoning Kim Sam Soon during my Winter Break.

For me Kim Joo Hyuk is really good and sexy in his way. Ever since Lovers in Prague, I havent miss his dramas or movie. He played a very sexy gigolo Julian in movie Love Me Not... Cant wait. Good Match.

I too am glad she opted out of I Am Legend. Kim Sun-ah, I sure hope you pick a drama for 2011. Please nothing like When Night Comes, which was alright but lacked all the elements of kdramaness that I love. Ganbatte ne~

To be honest, i found her acting in MNIKSS so irritable & annoying I could barely stand it. I never gave her another chance though, so maybe this will change my opinion on her...

you are the first person I have seen that disliked her ,but I
loved it big time and it stuck in my head for years. Most Kdramas are very forgetable but I respect your opinion.
What is your favorite performance from a korean actress?

Thank you for this :) but this is my common problem with female leads, sometimes i just yell at my screen "Why do you (male lead) even bother...? She's not worth it!"
It happens when I can't identify with the character, mostly because they're rude (but supposedly strong), weak (but initially cute) and so on.
And women I loved? Definitely funny Lee Dae Hae in My Girl, then Yoon Eun Hye in Coffee Prince (although I disliked her character in Goong), Shin Min Ah in MGIAG, Moon Geun Young in Cinderella's sister (i haven't seen her anywhere else, but I bet she is fabulous in every drama she makes)..... and currently i root for Ha Ji Woon in Secret Garden ^^

I also found her character in MNIKSS annoying, but the strangest thing is that I LOVED her as Shin Mi-rae in City Hall even though both the characters were quite similar. Go figure...must have been my different frames of mind while watching each of these dramas.

I watched MNIKSS after I watched City Hall. I like her much better in City Hall.
In MNIKSS, Sam Soon sometimes is uncomfortable about herself. It hurt watching her struggle (maybe because I already liked Suna unnie too much I didnt want her to suffer hiks).
In City Hall, Mirae is totally confident, charming and funny. She never says die. I want to be like Mirae.
I think pairing her with CSW also has huge impact. They have similar built and mature charm.
In MNIKSS, I always worry for Hyun Bin. I kept saying in my heart "Man, dont annoy her too much. She can easily break you into two." Hehehe... he was so petite compared to her.

Isn't that going a bit far?
Many of us have had times when our first impressions of an actor/actress have been low, yet came to love them in other roles.

Criticism is nescessary to art, that's how it gets better.
If K drama had more of that and less boosterism in the media it would grow out of its dependence on cliches and find a wider audience in my opinion.

Actually when I first watched MNIKSS I too found her so irritable and annoying. I thought Hyun Bin was better off with his first love ( I thought that in real world it may actually happen that way..hehe).
But then.. I watched her movie "she's on duty" and if there's anything in that movie I love more than Gong Yoo, it's KSA. She's like SUPER COOL, funny and beyond cute...

Still annoying me to see her act childish or to hear her childish voice in MNIKSS or Cityhall.
I don't know about her acting, I can't and won't make comment on someone's acting because I feel I'm not capable with. Either way, no matter how bad the actor's acting if the character is interesting, I eat that.

Wowww, great news :)
I am waiting since City Hall that she will take a role in a new drama that will suit her ( Luckily she did avoid I am Legend )
I love her, adore her since CH and I am waiting since then for any news about her, that she will pick up a decent drama project.
Cha Seung Won did it with Athena...Now its her turn...<3

I love this day! Actually the news came out 2 days ago, if I`m not mistaken and I`ve been waiting for the translation of the article, eying it here.
Thanks JB for posting it today. Now, I have something to look forward too.
Happy days are here again to all KSA and CH fans.
I like your idea JB, I saw LOTO movie and I love those women.
I respect others opinion, "BUT NOT TODAY, IT`S MY DAY"!
So just don`t bother to comment about KSA, if you have nothing good to say. Nobody is forcing you to like her, anyway!
Merry Christmas JB in advance!

It's about time we her again on screen. I just hope she appears in the small screen again, i.e. drama series.
KSA is my favourite Korean actress and her MNIKSS role got me hooked on her. She acts naturally and he does very well the strong character role.
girlfriday, thanks for the news.

hip hip hooray...
Suna is back and i can't wait to watch her...
I've loved her and Kdrama eversince MNIKSS .. she is a great person and best actress ever..
I agree with the rest about her withdrawal from IAL.. it would be a waste of her talent...
Kim Suna FIGHTING....

She is the bee's knees!
Though I really would prefer her in a different role than the "supporting wife" because she has such a powerful physical presence.
She can play physical comedy, country bumpkin, pâtisserie chef, James Bond...anything.
Her charisma, like Gong Yu's, surpasses borders, languages, sexual persuasions and genders.
(p.s.: there isn't a cure for me: I'm Suna-crazy).

I like the innate sassiness that she has. This role doesn't seem like it would allow for Sun Ah to show off this sassiness as a wife struggling to keep a family afloat. I hope she does well with this drama, regardless.

She isn't from the Potted Plant School of Acting that's for sure. She's fiery and real and complex.
She knows how to pick her projects too (well, mostly).

I can't wait to see her in this movie with Kim Joo-hyuk. i like the plot and will love to see her playing the role of a wife and mother. i don't think she will be playing a supporting role. the character must be a tough cookie in order to be a supportive and positive role model to her hubby and children..being a mother and wife is hard to do

Hi,
I watched City hall before MNIKSS and I much prefer Kim Sun-ah in City hall. As somebody mentioned, being paired with Cha Seung won might have helped. They were very good together. I found Sam Soon quite annoying. I didn't fall in love with her like Huyn did. MiRae was a different story, though. I could see why Jokuk was falling for her.
To be Honest, City hall is one of my favorite K dramas.
Cha Seun won is simply delicious as Jokuk;)

anyone know when I can expect her on tv again! Where is sheeeeeeeeee????? I liked her in kim sam soon, loved her in city hall ( skipped night after night after first 2 episodes) and I'm glad she wasn't in I am Legend and I think she should be a good girl and keep acting before she is too old to play bridget jones types.
