Dangerous Meeting between Lee Shi-young and Song Sae-byuk
by javabeans
Despite the title, Lee Shi-young’s new movie isn’t some dark thriller; instead, it’s a romantic comedy, and pairs her with “2010’s Super Rookie” Song Sae-byuk (the nickname refers to Song’s string of hits this year — The Fixer, Cyrano Dating Agency, Bad Deal, and Bang-ja Chronicle — the latter for which he’s already scored a Korea Film Award).
The movie is a lighter take on the classic Romeo & Juliet conflict, with the hero hailing from Jeolla Province and the heroine from Gyeongsang Province. While I don’t presume these regional differences to be as pronounced a source of angst as, say, the Montague-Capulet feud, their differences are part of the opposition they face from both families. Some earlier reports pointed to particular conflicts between the fathers, and with the film’s comedic bent, it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
If anything, it’ll be great to see Lee Shi-young taking on a leading role for once, rather than playing the second-fiddle bitch/villain/interloper. It’s to Lee’s credit that she has made every one of said second-lead roles memorable and lovable in their own right, giving her characters a human, lovable side despite the narrative necessities that make them antagonists. Case(s) in point: The backstabbing frenemy in Boys Before Flowers, the spoiled heiress in Birth of the Rich, the paragon of perfection in Playful Kiss.
Above is the first still to be released from the movie, while below are several photos taken by a fan who happened to be present at one of the film’s early shoots.
The movie began filming in October and is currently still shooting; it is looking at a 2011 release.

Oh! That's very good news for her :)
I almost forgot that she was in BOF but I do remember her in PK.
What started off as dislike switched to amused admiration once her character showed to have a good head on her shoulder as opposed to Oh Hani's co-dependent nature (So infuriating!).

Hani's like those prairie mice: if BSJ jumps off of a cliff, so will she.

In all honesty, I'm pretty happy Haera didn't end up with BSJ. The dude was loveable til the end, when he just seemed like some narcistic jerk whose love for Hani was really questionable (to me, that is). Did he want her because she satisfied his narcistic personality....?
Anyways, Lee Shi-Young has a natural charm, that aside from script, can make anyone of her characters likeable.

The fan-taken pictures are adorable. It looks like she's a good sport about random fans snapping pictures of her, lol

I've never seen Song Sae-byuk before this year, but man, once I saw him, he's been great. He was the funniest character in The Fixer (with his partner Oh Dal-su). His voice is so... unique, or maybe it's the way he talks. Hope his movie with Lee Shi-young does well. It's a comedy so I have my hopes up for them, but LYS has been more of a miss than a hit person for me. Her acting isn't bad, but it just rubs off on me the wrong way personally (probably because I dropped most of her dramas because they weren't to my liking, so I haven't given her characters the chance to warm up to me). I usually don't avoid actors/actresses so here's hope that LSY delivers since a lot of people appear to like her.

I heard her performance in that was good, but I just couldn't watch Birth of the Rich. Though apparently it gets better, Birth of the Rich was just not my cup of tea.

Her character in BotR is like a typical second female lead... spoilt, bitchy. She makes it endearing somehow. She steals the scenes even when she's bratty, shrilly or throw tantrum. Liked her more than the female lead (boring!).
I was imagining how she would do it if she were the one to do Seul's character in SG. It would be awesome ^.^...but then... she would be type casted :(
Glad that she went on to become a leading lady. Hoping more success will go her way

"Her character in BotR is like a typical second female lead… spoilt, bitchy. "
. . . and batsheesh crazy. The brilliance of LSY's performance is how she revealed, through almost a primal interpretation of her character's privileged temperament, that her character was at heart a damaged, miserable human being. Someone who would be eaten alive in a real world, and so could never actually LIVE in the real world.

That's great news, I really like her. She was the most entertaining to watch in the Birth of the Rich, I actually wanted her to be with Choi Seok Bong rather than Shin Mi.

Love her performance in BotR. I actually watched the drama just to see her and not the two leads. She looks lovely with long hair. Hopefully they will cast her with Song Joongki in a rom com soon!
