Runaway Plan B ratings continue their slide
by javabeans
I’m actually a little shocked: The latest episode of Runaway Plan B drew a mere 11.9% rating, which is nearly half its strong premiere number. More worrying than that, however, is the steadiness of the downward trend — Episodes 1 through 6 have garnered, in order, a 20.7%, 17.9%, 18.0%, 16.2%, 15.1%, and 11.9%.
Over on SBS, Daemul‘s Episode 3 drew a 26.5% on Wednesday, and kept it up the next day with a 26.1%. MBC’s Playful Kiss numbers this week were 6.0% and 5.6%.
I had expected Daemul to cut into Runaway‘s ratings somewhat, but hadn’t thought it would so completely dominate. Yes, dramas tend to be the purview of the ajumma viewer, and President Go Hyun-jung is a huge draw — but surely Runaway would collect that subset of the viewership that craves testosterone, action, and speed, I thought. I’ve wondered if it would have done better as a summer series, or even on weekends a la Man Called God, but in any case it hasn’t managed to command the same action-lovin’ eyeballs as Chuno, which is what everyone was banking on.
It’s too bad; despite not loving the drama, I have fun watching Runaway, which is a harmless escapist vehicle to counter the Pomp and Drama of Daemul and the romantic sweetness of Playful Kiss. (Also: Lee Jung-jin is damn hot. Sometimes I forget to pay attention to the main point of a scene when he’s all gruff and glowery onscreen. Although, let’s be honest — the hot stuff usually IS the primary purpose of scenes in this drama.)
Maybe next time, Rain.

i watched episode 1. and from there i got what the ratings in Korea are talking about. The genre obviously fits for Asian culture in general. Daemul, on the other hand speaks of patriotism and more of a Korean context which the viewers can relate more than the action-packed culture fusion theme of Runaway. For me, the spot that Plan B is getting is just an isolated case. Am still going to watch it once it premieres in our local tv. can't wait! ♥

There's no denying about Rain's talent.
But the viewers surely wanted to see something different from Rain but here, again he's taking up a role in which no one is surprised.
Testosterone, action and speed aside, unfortunately the overall make up of the drama doesn't really quite cut it through especially where the viewers' ever changing demands in dramas are concerned.

There's no denying about Rain's talent but the viewers were full of anticipation of wanting to see something different from him and here, he's taking up a role where no one is surprised. A role which Rain plays very well almost as if it was tailor made for him and yet viewers somehow got over with that.
Testosterone, action and speed aside, the overall make up of the drama doesn't really quite cut it through the ever changing demands of today's viewers on Korean dramas.

This drama is probably more a "trendy drama", not an action drama. The trendiness of it is in its Global attitude:
1.the actors of different nations speak their own language and everyone seems to understand each other perfectly.
2.The heroes are living and moving everywhere- today in Japan, tomorrow in China. That'so now. I myself have been already in 5 countries since the beginning of this year and even changed my home country.
3. The heroes are asian, but look at their facial expressions- they are so tipical hollywood cliches.Suddenly you seem to watch not a korean drama with its exagerated heart tearing emotion, but a normal US tv series , especially Daniel Henley gives that note. So it is a perfect trendy product.
4. The glamourous side of this drama adds a lot to its trendiness- all the heroes are by far too fashionable and glossy.
5. The diversity of Rain as an artist is also very today, as everything now tends to be multidimensial.
Let's not be too severe with ajummas- DaeMul is also not bad at all, it just speaks a more accesible language.

I was confused at first when I started watching episode 1 of Plan B, because I didn't know why Rain's acting was so goofy...until I realized - hey.. maybe this is a comedy! LOL!! You have to admit, he was totally beefcake coming out of the water in those black pants with upper body almost down to his nether-region all toned and abbed-for-days! Yummy!
I like Daniel Henney! His acting is better than most Americans they stick in these dramas! I've often wondered WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYY???? do they have such horrible English speaking actors when they need them for various roles?!?! Just atrocious. Daniel is cute - come on! I've only watched 2 episodes though as that's all that's available on DramaFever.com. I'm sad to think it going to go downhill from here as episode 2 was an improvement on ep.1.
I, too, can barely tolerate American TV since discovering K-dramas 6 months ago. And when I say I'm addicted, I am not exaggerating! I keep telling myself I *must* take a break, but noooooooooooooo... I just find yet another drama to watch almost non-stop as I am just glued to my laptop. OMG!

I don't understand the appeal of Daniel Henney in dramas. How in the world do you speak English to those who are speaking to you in Korean/Japanese/Chinese/etc blah blah blah.
Some fans of Bi say Fugitive is awesome and it's only the loss that Korean viewers don't like it, I mean what's there to like of a drama that exaggerates and just filled with running scenes.

Rain in serious problem, got sued by casino in Las vegas for gambling debts.
Unbelievable Rain addict to casino gambling, loss to borrow money promise to return but didnt.
How many suing cases accumulate since concert tour?
Go read news reports from Sportsseoul.com not friendly to Rain, have been unkind with daily news about him this and that, from Fugitive ratings to business to personal.
Will Rain return to being a pauper abusing his own power & money?
How long can remain arrogant World Star to return back to his poor old beginning?
Good luck to Rain, hope he survive long!

I'm seeing Rain antis who probably are one and the same person because of the grammar. Haha. Stop changing your user name just to comment! LOL.
Anyway, as much as I am a Rain fan, I'm only at ep. 3. I'm a sucker for good translated dramas and the ones out there are not really great except for ep. 1 & 2.
But anyway, I think many older people are watching dramas in Korea in which DaeMul has a bigger audience share, while Runaway is for the younger ones (not just teens) and they prefer to watch online which is very convenient in Korea, as we all know. That explains why downloads and streaming are pretty high for Runaway.
I hope it increases, though coz 11% is pretty bad. :|

Bi's acting annoying?
A lot of people found Gu Gye-Sun's overacting too annoying at the start but look at where BOF ended
Just thought I'd add my two cents worth - Bi's acting or facial expressions have not improved . Hwas capable of it all along, but did not have the chance or right vehicle to show it. He was too busy and distracted by concerts and botched up Hollywood attempts

i don't know why runaway's rating is so low! that's a big big surprise to me because i find the drama very interesting to watch. i really can't wait to watch the next episode & i'm waiting for epi 8 to be subbed right now, it's taking forever... so anxious! lol i have a hectic schedule especially with Halloween just around the corner, but i still manage to take time to watch this drama. i'm addicted! seriously... i check to see if it's uploaded and sub EVERY DAY! it's crazy how people don't like it!
my guess is that the drama is different from other Korean drama and i don't think Korea is use to this kind of flick yet! it's always the sappy love dramas with someone that has a sickness and dies or can't remember the past that gets everybody's attention.
i mean, i like to watch those kind of drama too, but i'm more interested in dramas with a lot of action mix with a little comedy & romance type of drama like A MAN CALLED GOD. that drama was GREAT! & i think that FUGITIVE is worth watching! all of you whom have not watched it should def' watch it & the ratings should def' be higher!!

What's all the fuss about? You may not like Rain's character in Runaway, but he is really good at this role. Underneath all that fluff is a deep, serious PI trying to find out what happened to OJH. I love Daniel Henney. His role may not be as charismatic as LJJ or even an Rain's, but he also is playing someone we don't really know yet. There is a mystery to this story. If you watch it just for eye candy, it will probably be just that. But if you watch it for trying to solve the mystery, it is interesting. Bit by bit, the story enfolds. As for the languages, this drama is slated to be shown all over asia...see it as a cultural connection between countries...lastly, the reason I like this drama is that so far, you really don't know who the bad guy is, yet. I think it's different, and misunderstood...take it for what it is, not your typical drama and in that way, real fun!!!

am really disappointed regard the rating for this drama tho i didnt see the last episodes, but it seems that the viewers are getting too old for this, more like the teenage does not excises any more.
i find Runaway a very excellent drama, fun to watch and the action.
also the cast ... they have picked the most excellent cast and most attractive ones ... I've not seen any ugly face in it ... ( which makes me continue watching it)

I love this drama. But, i was quite dissatisfied with the ending of this drama. i hope there'll be some romantic scene between the client and that detective ( sigh ) but it's only like that. So, i am thinking if there's season 2 for this drama and it's more exciting and romantic of course... I will surely watch it !!!
Thankyou
